I was lucky enough to be standing no more than 6 feet away from him as he was playing with another band of his. To me, Dave is the exact definition of a great drummer. He picks up the band - and the crowd, like nobody's business. What a guy !
Yeah, My heart sank when I watched him tell that story in another clip. I was like... wow. Even being Dave Lombardo, in a world class outfit like Slayer, was giving no real compensation for what will be seen as a historical contribution to the art of metal music. Even this man is a blue collar worker after all that success.
Dave Lombardo is a big part of why I loved and continue to love playing drums. Slayer only exists with you behind the kit as far as I'm concerned. You acknowledged me once between songs at a show in Ft Lauderdale years ago, responding to my yells of "LOMBARDO!!!" 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
So many unbelievable fills. I’m wondering what the likes off Krupa , Rich, Blakey and Roach would have made of Dave’s drumming. So technically brilliant but with swing and groove. Immense!
Lars Ulrich just sucks... Dave is always been better then him now dave still play better then god while lars... well, he practiced, but now he's decent, not a beast as he's been in late '80
If Slayer would have had a Lombardo cam for one of their live DVD's as extra content, I would pay whatever they asked right now. This video is way better than any of the concert DVD's where Dave hardly ever gets shown. The sound is incredible, especially on the Postmortem/Hate Worldwide vid. Too bad that can't happen now. I'd love it if you had any more of these. That would be amazing if you had the whole concert. Strange that Slayer never thought to do this. No brainer!
Dirk Verbeuren’s got a great groove too. But Lombardo is the master. I’m convinced the influence of Cuban percussion in his childhood plays a big role in his approach to drumming in general.
As a guitarist and bassist, im just so impressed with the precision and stamina Dave has in all of his performances, Slayer or not. Such a gifted drummer.
Unfucking believable how smooth and relaxed he is playing at that tempo! He is a legend and Slayer NEEDS him back. I like Bostaph too, but Dave is on another level.

And what about that killer-fill at 3:08? Which he modifies somewhat at 3:18...
Man, it took me weeks and weeks of careful scrutinising to get to play that at half the speed he plays it.
The god of fills, truly. Simple notes, but played with a combination of clinical precision and "effortless" speed...
Exactly from the album
Amazing drummer and amazing performance. No matter how many times I listen to this, it's awesome. And that ding always cracks me up for some reason.
He is a beast! What kind of physis must Dave have to play all those Songs within this perfection, power and energy... My biggest respect!! And he created so many wonderful bits, not just playing along with the song...
I've watched this video so many times. Awesome performance by Dave.
Insane!!! Brutal performance, great drummer... Mr. Dave!!!
Always a treat, watching THE MAN work!! 🤘😖🤘
thank you Dave for sharing your talent with us , you are the most amazing drummer i have ever heard. I think you are a genius sir !
There's something about his drumming that Paul can never have, it feels too good and it sounds so amazing! Lambordo you are the best.
Dave Lombardo, the only member of Slayer I really admire.
tom araya is good guy
I meant in a purely musical sense.
***** yeah sorry xd
+TheAbsorbant Once evry 30 years a guy comes along...Dave is one of them.
Genre defining drumming.
what about jeff
WOW and WOW! No matter how many times I see this man drum it is like the first time. I always feel like a kid all over. One of the greatest to have ever done it!
Holy shit one of the greatest of all time
They let Ulrich on the stage after this?
If it wasn't for Lars Dave wouldn't have even played this show!
Sukker Punch if it wasn't for Dave, Lars could be a great drummer.
I have to admit, that was funny. I'm sure Lars feels the same way. But, he's still a great drummer and gets the job done.
Mario Z. If it wasn't for Dave and thousands of other metal drummers.
It's a different style. Have You ever heart about the jazz?! Also another style.
However I very like this song: WaaaarEnsemble!!
I was lucky enough to be standing no more than 6 feet away from him as he was playing with another band of his. To me, Dave is the exact definition of a great drummer. He picks up the band - and the crowd, like nobody's business. What a guy !
We love you Mr. Dave and appreciate all of your hard work more than we can put into words…
at around 2:50 you can see a thumb headbanging
😄😄😄😄😄😄
I lost my shit
Now I can't unsee it.
I fcking lost it man 😂😂
Hahahha
dave, you fucking rule! Thanks for inspiring drummers all over the world.
I can't believe he only made 65k in 2011 (the year of this tour, according to Lombardo himself). Someone should go to jail for treating him like that.
Over 60 gigs that year... Do that math....
Brandon Decarlo its ridiculous there are guys in cover bands in big cities playing in bars and clubs making that kind of money
right?
Yeah, My heart sank when I watched him tell that story in another clip. I was like... wow. Even being Dave Lombardo, in a world class outfit like Slayer, was giving no real compensation for what will be seen as a historical contribution to the art of metal music. Even this man is a blue collar worker after all that success.
@@bdc-muzik That has to be wrong? Severely underpaid for such a big band!
Man! This vid pops up in my feed once every few months!
I always try to like it again haha
1:39- when Dave is a little off- and shakes his head pissed when he knows it. The rest is perfect. What a friggin drummer!!!!
So damn good we dont even notice it
Dave Lombardo is a big part of why I loved and continue to love playing drums. Slayer only exists with you behind the kit as far as I'm concerned. You acknowledged me once between songs at a show in Ft Lauderdale years ago, responding to my yells of "LOMBARDO!!!" 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
His whole playing is rad but he keeps peppering it with little fills that can trip anyone up.he brought groove to metal they wasn’t there.
As a stagehand, this is the best experience anyone can have working with everyone including the band to put on a great show.
So many unbelievable fills. I’m wondering what the likes off Krupa , Rich, Blakey and Roach would have made of Dave’s drumming. So technically brilliant but with swing and groove. Immense!
I like how at 1:42 he is going apeshit on the drums, but then he delicately taps the little cymbal at the side 😂
isaac white not really intelligent at drums r ya
INAUDIATIOSNESS 43 i dont play drums at all, i play guitar
+isaac white there ya go
INAUDIATIOSNESS 43 what are you trying to prove?
He is playing that part like this about 10 years now , wtf are you talking about...
The flow is amazing. He's so effortless in all his efforts.
Never got the appreciation of his talent - He's up there with the best
WoW... 50 years old drummer...Lombardo
yeah bro still badass
Lombardo aged well.
Like a fine wine.
Lars Ulrich just sucks... Dave is always been better then him now dave still play better then god while lars... well, he practiced, but now he's decent, not a beast as he's been in late '80
I wouldn't bet on that, musicians are one of the most disciplined people when it comes to their craft!
No brainer!
One of the few metal drummers that actually groove!
Amen
Vinnie? Nicko? Duplantier? Silveria? Wilk? Gartska? Minneman? Portnoy?
@@TronciM Menza!
@@Michael-im5fl there's so many non metal ones I've not mentioned too
Dirk Verbeuren’s got a great groove too.
Fast, technical and effortless. It's extremely hard to play that fast and make it groove at the same time.
5:03 is such an underrated moment. As a drummer, this little change is fantastic!!
see also 2:57 (obviously) but also 4:44, fantastic snare work
3:08 too
Yeah is pure magic
0 to 5.42 is fantastic
I love it… Effortless and one-of-a-kind and never will be replace!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻
This actually might be my favorite mix of this song.
I listen to this WAY more than the actual song. That little ride ping just kills me every time.
Nothing but respect for Lombardo.
I could listen to this one song on repeat for hours. The drumming and seeing it from this perspective is amazing
Unfucking believable how smooth and relaxed he is playing at that tempo! He is a legend and Slayer NEEDS him back. I like Bostaph too, but Dave is on another level.
Happy Birthday Dave Lombardo, one of the Best drummer in this world, this man is not human❤
Cool moments: 1:20 Hi, Gary! 1:44 that subtle cymbal touch 2:58 everything from there and on (obviously the whole video is amazing, Dave is the best)
01:44 😂😂😂😂 lombardo de luxe
1:40 BRAM TRUM BRAM TRUM TRUM BRAM " DING " :D
How that kit didn't catch fire is a mystery to me
Lombardo is the best thrash metal drummer ever. He's the 🐐
I learned about 60% of this song thanks to this video, thanks Dave
When you know your worth, speak up for yourself & still aren’t shown consideration, you have no choice but to go where you’re appreciated…
1:20 Gary Holt taking a peak 😂
If I played in a band with a drummer like Dave, the audience would just see my back the whole time, "Sorry, guys, but this dude is so good, I gotta watch."
Dave eres el baterista del thrash metal único mis respetos a toda tu obra musical. 🔥
Thanks Dave for all you efforts we, the fans, that love you beats and sounds appreciate....wherever band you are...Thanks a lot! keep destroying those drums!
Lol Gary Holt's making faces at the camera 1:20
UMM sir that the old guitarist that died
+Zen Zstephen Valdeez Umm no? That is most definitely NOT Jeff Hanneman, it's Gary Holt.
Poser. That's Gary Holt.
+Zen Zstephen Valdeez are you stupid?? hanneman is dead that is gary holt from testament gtfo in here poser
Jam Realin
Calling a guy poser and saying Holt is from Testament. Good job.
One of the best metal drummes, period.
I saw Slayer at the Cow Palace, San Francisco, in the late-1980’s. A break-dance crew was out on the floor, near the pit, demonstrating with their dancing how well they knew that Lombardo is a God of Thunder. It was amazing!
I CAN APPRECIATE THE WORK DAVE HAS TO DO, HIS DRUMMING IS FANTASTIC TO WATCH,NEVER LOST THE BEAT...
