When you listen to bad drummers, a drummer that keeps the ship steady without slopping like crazy and drives it how it should be driven. You make my case. Yes,. I could actually hear the double bass on the outro to Battery. That China ride tends to make certain drum parts sound muddy when it’s overused. Lombardo is such a powerful drummer.
he used
Lombardo is in a different level…a beast!
Damn, he slayed those drums for real. Dave is the best thrash metal drummer ever.
Tom Araya said something like this is how Metallica songs were supposed sound. Dave is a machine lol
Tom araya is a chode lol slayer is gay AF
It's nice that Dave was able to find a few moments in the day to get on stage and just relax, wasn't it?
for dave this was as simple as drinking coffee and watching the news lmao
easy paycheck doing practically nothing
Perfect comment
🤣🤣🤣🤣
lol! that made my night
As Clarkson used to say... SPEED AND POWER. Just the energy when Dave hits that double bass is tremendous, Robert, James and Kirk are super into it.
A former member of Slayer playing the drum parts of a Metallica song written by the founder of Megadeth.
Also, they still have the Danish flag on the kit, even though Dave's Cuban.
kirk looks stressed out, poor guy, probably the only time in his life he struggled to keep up with the drummer while trying to play a solo.
Chris Wilson LMAO... TRUE.
Then that would be drummers fault
@@OblivionZXZ That's not Dave's fault he was playing at the exact tempo of the album version that's Lars fault he cannot play in tempo and because of this Kirk is kinda used to Lars' drumming and that's why They were struggling to keep up with Dave's drumming
it totally woke his ass up! i think he sounded awesome!
Arvind Shastri they didn’t really struggle where did they struggle?
3:36 James hears what the drums should be like for the first time
Lars play like that in the 80's uwu
Look at battery live 2019 Lars did it. Stop spreading misinformation.
As if he’s hasn’t heard them since the record came out.
@@ryanspencerlauderdale687 Lars plays it perfectly fine!
@@yeetfeet1878 He did back in the day, not so much now.
This is now my favorite line up of this band.
Dave Lombard Powerhouse of Energy!
Just imagine Lombardo playing Fight fire with fire 🔥
Dyers eve too
YES
Metallica in milan 1987 then
Saw em in 17 do it in Indianapolis. Larz fucked it up. So yes I would love to hear it played correctly as it is one of my all time favorite Tallica tunes.

The best!!!
I just love how Dave Lombardo isn't giving an inch. This is the tempo. Go! You can hear James and Kirk struggling, but as many people have said, it makes the and sound solid as f**k, and defnitely gives life to the music that it sometimes lacks.
Imagine if Metallica had:
James Hetfield
Dave Mustaine
Cliff
Dave Lombardo
That's the real shit.
Dave Mustaine is a born front man . He can't be a lead player. Plus Kirk's solo are more emotional . So win win.
James, Kirk, Jason and Lombardo
like more rob
@@QuotableExchange Rob is a very good bass player, but Jason has a killer background vocals that everybody miss
this is a real drummer. not just
the owner of the band playing
Lars is the Metallica owner which is actually hilarious. Dude is like a 5 4 midget and he still has the biggest balls there despite James standing at 6 feet lmao. He even sucks at his instrument but he still calls the shots and is indispensable to Metallica regardless. He's also a total dork from Denmark or something with a nerds accent hahaha. Goddamn what a fucking legend.
@@algo2957 Aren't you cool making fun of his height, nationality and accent. Also i really don't get when people call lars a dork or an asshole or so. He's not any of those things. You in the other hand are absolutely an asshole :D ironic. No but seriously go fuck yourself.
@@kaiserwilhelmii1827 Manlet Dutch dork detected. Also read the full post. I was PRAISING Lars despite his -short-comings. It's impressive his balls are so big despite his physical attributes and everything else. He's essentially Metallica's true frontman 😂

@@kaiserwilhelmii1827 Case and point for him being an asshole, hes the whole reason and justice for all has no bass
This whole concert really needed to been released with professional cameras.
This is the moment four horsemen became mechanix lol
I don't hate Lars.... but lombardo of course made the performance 100 times better ;)
agree
M.A its the rim shots :-)
Lars got deep into cocaine shit... but it´s recovering hinself... he´s realized what he´s lost
Mauro Monteiro,
He should have been using speed ...
M.A couldn't tell a difference, go back and listen to Lars on battery, it's he same
Look they have a drummer :-)

Yeah Metallica finally have a backbone but unfortunately they still suck not even Dave Lombardo can change that
+Laury Ward the only problem here, you don't like Metallica songs, that's all, but they are a good band.
Thats like the tenth time I've watched that & it never gets old. He could fill in for any drummer . Epic cover Dave
Dave lombardo simply the best thrash metal drummer of all times in my opinion
I guess this is what it would sound like if Exodus, Slayer, Suicidal Tendencies, and Metallica formed a band together?
Wow... I didnt realise that...
Truth Seeker did Kirk play in Exodus at all? I heard he just named the band before being picked up by Metallica
Yiorgios Vazouras
Kirk played on the Exodus 1982 Demo.
No, it's how Metallica would sound if they got an actual drummer.
@@nastylittlecritter Kirk was the founder of Exodus
I think Kirk missed a few parts on Four Horsemen because he's not used to playing it at album tempo. :)
Yea James lost rhythm on the last riff of battery because he definitely was not used to it
Nice seeing you here dood
Yea, get Lombardo up there and you better have had your tune up, oil change and be ready to slam the peddle. Yes. I'm a " I wish load never existed" person...
hey i just saw your comments on the last like two vids i watched 😂 all dave lombardo related 🤘🤘
@@oldmatevb James is so used to Lars so it definitely caught him off guard. I’m sure he could adjust tho
Best Metallica I have ever heard...SLAYER!!!!!!!!!!
Dave is such a perfect fit for Metallica!!!
Damn feels like Metallica is on steroids ...
3:40 is hilarious, Lombardo keeps the rhythm like a monster but the guitars can't keep up. But Lombardo keeps going at the same rate and forces them back to correct time :D
@Ted Wilson Three months later and still one of the most laughable comments I've read on youtube. Lars and groove have no connection. Perhaps you need to go watch Dave do other projects.
@Ted Wilson Ah yes, sloppy timing isn't groove. John Bonham and "Fool In The Rain" from Zeppelin is GROOVE. Steady as hell and smooth as glass. But, believe what you will. When you listen to bad drummers, a drummer that keeps the ship steady without slopping like crazy and drives it how it should be driven. You make my case. Groove is not a word any drummer associates with Lars. Playing for a paycheck and 'barely passable' are common words in the drumming community. Again though, believe what you will.
As a drummer should!
@Ted Wilson Wtf?? 😂😂😂😂 Im a drummer and lets get 1 thing really clear....Battery is not fucken GROOVING LOL Lars doesn't GROOVE either ffs. Yes as musicians we refer to feel and groove. In Metal, Especially fast tempo shit like Battery, you would use the term FEEL.."Do you have the FEEL for metal. The feel is "FUCKN PUMPING, DRIVING AND STACCATO ASF, Not kicking back deep in the pocket playing just behind or just in front of the pulse, its bang on as best u can. I think the "Groove" or "Feel" your thinking of in regards to Lars is "Lagging" or "Racing" and "Sloopy"
@Ted Wilson Swing??? What part of the original recording of Battery on the Master of Puppets album had a fuckn swing feel dude??? The fuck is wrong with you? 😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣 you need to delete your comment dude.
I've already commented on this, but the battle in the beginning between Dave and James was great.
>James enters the chat.
>Dave enters the chat.
>James tries to bring tempo back down
>Dave "nope, we flyin' the way we're supposed to"
>James eventually gets with it and sings clean to keep up
Still love this video. I think in the end James ended up being the one who was feeling most alive in that stadium.
Imagine Lars still doing the songwriting with James but Lombardo being the one going out on tour. Sort of like Kurt Vanderhoof did with Metal Church. Bad ass.
3:37 James is excited to have a good drummer for once
Dave makes the song sounds like Seattle 89
Nick Kechris no its not
Nick Kechris oh hell no

Dios le bendiga a Dave Lombardo , ha Sido siempre uno de los mejores bataqueros dentro de la escena del metal .
Lars was a kick ass drummer in the eighties and early nineties, but after the black album tour he lost his hunger. It just wasn't the same. Having Dave play on stage bought new life into the band. He ignited a flame that hadn't been burning in years.
I have to agree. Its like a totally different person on the 3 first albums.
Lars was never kick ass

That violent headbang in the end of battery was really good, respect to Trujillo
That was the only point in the song where he got to get loose....was all business until then with Lombardo being beast tight....it sounded like the drums were performed in 1989 and processed in 2015....
Holy shit I've never heard this song sound so good!! Lombardo is like a 383 stroker motor on the drums. They took the crankshaft out of 400 and stuck it in a 350 and holy shit this improved the bands proformance and speed.
Nah I thought battery was sick, but now I have a fantasy that Dave Lombardo covers all the songs with the band lol, Battery’s breakdowns were just ridiculous, James, Rob, and Kirk and all so happy the whole time mind blown on what they’ve been missing out on, This is the only time in Metallica where the drums are just in ur face and actually blow u away, Jordy did so good aswell too!
