Cool! I recently purchased and installed the Box 2-E 9 drivetrain that has the same range and single-shift shifter. It's riding great, but the clutch isn't very powerfull. I'm sure that was due to the difference in price points between the 2-E and the 1-E.

    • @unassumingtrailslayer9273

Oval rings give you a more consistent pedal stroke without the power spikes at the top of each stroke. Helps a lot when climbing techy sections. Especially when slick roots are involved. Once you ride with oval a few times, you will not notice the difference. But, go back to a round ring an I almost guarantee you will miss your oval and realize the benefits. I have been riding ovals for the past four-five years. I have run Absolute Black, Wolftooth, and currently run OneUp with the Switch carrier. Make sure to check chainring compatibility with your frame, as an oval 32t requires more clearance than a round 32t. The only worry that I have is that oval rings may wear out your clutch deraileur a bit faster since your pulley cage is constantly being pulled back and forth as the chain passes over the changing shape of the oval, as opposed to the consistent shape of a round ring. I usually bash a deraileur before this happens, so, no way for me to really tell. If you are unsure, grab a @oneupcomponents switch carrier and you can swich back and forth , in a minute, or so, to your hearts content.

When I ride tech lines I dislike modern 12 speed wide range drive trains. I feel like there's too big of jumps between the gears when you go from 10-51 with only 12 gears. 9 gears seam like it would be a nightmare! I'm switching to a 10-45 12 speed to tighten up the jumps!

Hey. I've bent a couple a couple Sunrace 11-46 cassettes, so that's got me looking at a different solution. I remembered seeing Seth's Box 9 pre-launch video and then came across your review. My question is, do you think the Box 9 cassette is a more durable/bomb proof cassette vs others? I'm looking to get something that I can feel confident will not bend. Thanks for the video!

    Great video, as always.
I don't think Prime 9 will suit me, but it doesn't mean it own't suit others, but I might need to try it for my self, maybe they tweaked it just right, cus I am using all of the gears with 11T, and new bike went to 11-50T so now I think I might have the best combo I can have right now.
I squeeze in that extra lighter gear, that extra heavier to get just little bit faster, I just made it as efficient as I could, I am changing gears a lot too. But I don't think I need any more gears, nor less, but maybe I could do with less, if it was perfectly tweaked, but I did not want to risk it and end up with something I might to like, so I went for 11spd, but I can always try Prime 9 at later point.
but a thing concerning me is the B screw/bolt, the angle and position is not optimal, so I turn it all the way in, I now know the issue is not my Trek Fuel EX, cus I tested the new Box rd and both on my fuel ex and on my G1, same thing on both. but cus the body is forged it probably will hold up and not get the threads ruined and bent bolt, but I will see how the hanger will do with the bolt only touching it halfway. as seen in this pic: flic.kr/p/2hUmCvJ but previous version did eat the hanger.

I even made the mistake of having a 12 speed cassette when I traded wheel. It didn’t even skip at all. I looked down and couldn’t figure out why I could not go into the last ring. Never buy anything from Box Components. They do not honor their warranties. My shifter broke during the warranty period. I submitted a warranty claim to be told that they had phased out the 11 speed line. They offered 30% off a new groupset or advised me to buy a Shimano 11 speed shifter. So they wanted me to spend more money with them or another company to honor their own warranty. Don’t waste your time on Box, find another company that actually stands behind their products.

@@SteadySpin Box told me that a part breaking within the warranty period and also being discontinued was a rare occurrence. Since it is rare, I would think they would do whatever it took to get me riding a functioning Box drivetrain. Something like, working with their suppliers to have an 11 speed Shimano shifter shipped to me, or having me return my 11 speed drivetrain in exchange for the Prime 9 that they now only support. Unfortunately, they didn't suggest any of these, and the only options they provided involved me spending more of my own money to get my 11 speed drivetrain to work or purchase a Prime 9 at a 30% discount. I ultimately, decided to no longer represent Box on the trails. I sold my Box 11 speed parts and bought the Microshift AdventX drivetrain. I hope by sharing my experience with fellow riders that Box will either change their policy or loose future business from riders who have read about my experience and decide to go with a non-Box drive train.
