Box prime 9 drivetrain is great. Actually feels like it shifts unlike the 12 speed drivetrains where I find myself double or triple shifting to find a good gear.
This mirrors my experiences with Prime 9 as well. I’ve converted both my bikes over to it. One of my friends did a high end frame build up and chose the Box 1 level. After the initial break in you are set.
@Google Account officially Box says to use their specific 9-speed chain. I haven’t worn one out yet, so I haven’t experimented with other manufacturers yet. It doesn’t appear to be very different from any other 9-speed chain I’ve seen.
Straight forward and honest review!! I’ve been considering box and sram and yeah would agree in stock products are hard to find with the pandemic. Thanks for your input on this drivetrain.
I have the ebike version of the box prime 9. not happy with the shifting it gets stuck, doesn't want to fall into gear at times. shifter feels plastic like it will break cause it gets stuck and also hard to press. not at all like a shimano or sram for smoothness and lite.
Thank you! I want to bring my 13 years old Stevens Stoke from 3x9 to 1x12 but shimano makes it hard. So i find the SRAM NX with 1x12 and the Box 9 Shift with the options for an easy change. I buid the Box components becouse i like smaler companys. I hope the range is enough! in a view weeks i can start. Do you drive 1x12 speed bevore?
I have used 11 speed stuff, but the range is similar and the close ratio gears seem useless for many of my rides. I'm still loving this set up and have yet to need to adjust still !
I use an older set of Race Face DH cranks(3 gears). center ring 32T front(frame wont allow bigger). just had to juggle crank spacers to find better middle to middle . FYI im running a horizontal dropout 4x ive reworked for 1x9 bikepacking / trailtank. Anything is possible.
The most honest, helpful repair shop in town ! Thank you for that !!
Great job. Gen 2 of Box Components Prime 9 coming in September 2023. This is BIG!

Thank you! I just bought this, can’t wait to try it out
Solid, straightforward review. Just what I was looking for.

I run a microshift advent x which works great on trails but ive been eying one of these.

Thanks.
Shame that you cant tighten the clutch. Mine seem loose.
I wound up using a short chain and it seems to help. I'm sure they don't recommend it there at box but it works for me
I'm seeing on their website there's some issues derailleur hanger compatibility. How did that work out for you?
No issues really. Fitt my hanger just fine. I hadn't seen the compatability chart...
I was looking at that too and I’m confused, it says you need a b-link and any pictures you see with it they don’t have a b-link
Thx for the review, this is the one...
Hi. Just wandering can you run that cassette with double front derailleur?.. any information will help.. I am upgrading my talon 2 .
They do not recommend it. If I recall correctly
@Scott Tillery Thank You for your reply. I guess I'll just have to upgrade and go from there. I appreciate you taking time for my question.
I wonder if it is compatible with a triple 40-30-22 crankset?
Wouldn't the chain length become an issue? I'm curious.

How many teeth does your front chain ring have?
32
Sir they call it box three prime times wide and xtra and you have box one and box two also box four eighth speed
I don't follow? I'm sure you're trying to be helpful but I don't understand.
