    Scotty posted a recording some time ago that was very simple and ultimately effective to stop your vehicle from starting at all.
    Learn where the relay for the starter is and whenever you park your car, remove the starter relay. The vehicle will not start at all until the relay is reinstalled.

  • @kapstersmusic
    @kapstersmusic 6 месяцев назад +4

    If you have a newer Toyota keyfob, you can put it in low power mode and it won't actively communicate, eliminating the man-in-the-middle relay attack. Your batteries will last longer too. I made a habit of it as soon as I got the truck, check your owners manual for instructions. Only drawback is you have to remember to do it, but you have to remember to put your keyfob in a Faraday box. I didn't want the keyfob but it wasn't a choice for a TRD Sport. I would be happier with just a physical key!

    Just in case nobody has mentioned it already, the box is a Faraday Cage. You can isolate electronic devices by surrounding them with a conductive material. It's why microwave ovens have a mesh in the window. You could wrap your keyless remote in aluminum foil or copper mesh or take a run of the mill cardboard box and wrap it or line it with aluminum foil. I do this with my phone when I don't want AT&T or Apple tracking me, and I have an gallon size plastic baggie lined with aluminum foil if I want to shield my laptop when I take it somewhere. You can be sure your cellphone service provider is tracking you and selling the data. Police departments want to do this, too.

    ok but... you would have to take the key fob out to unlock your car and start it. Thieves watching with RFID scanners can just activate the scanner when you either open the door or start the car. You could avoid the first part by taking the physical key out of the electronic key and opening the physical lock, but you can't avoid keyless ignition. What a disaster.

    Those faraday boxes sometimes go with faraday pouches . You must have them as well, because the thieves wait at Malls exists and scan your purse while you are walking towards your car. Also such boxes will NOT help on Kia and Hyundai, because they have a small like old Tetris device ( $20 000) which can generate a virtual key just by pressing car's little button on the handles . After that they can come at any time they want to pick up your Korean car.

I used it on my moped (front and back tires) no issues with tire balance.... remember, the tire sealant is liquid and when inside the tire, it will act like those bead like tire balancers used in truck tires when the tire rotates.

    I totally agree with you about keyless entry and keyless start being a step backwards for security. I've been looking at Toyota Camry cars. All their hybrid versions have keyless entry and keyless start. That seems to be the same with all their hybrid vehicles. Their hybrids come with a bunch of upgrades by default but keyless entry and keyless start are both downgrades, to me. They also only come with a space-saver tyre (for their hybrids).
    All the new Camrys (and Corollas) come with automatic electronic parking brakes. That's just another thing to go wrong. Apparently those automatic brakes can't be repaired. If part of it stops working, the entire thing has to be replaced and it costs about AU$2000 to replace it!

    Better yet, to test the Faraday cage box, put your key fob in it, close it securely and carry it to your car and see if you can unlock and start your car. The cell phone is likely a different frequency and how a Faraday box is made can affect which frequencies it operates over.
    Note that Toyota has a key fob that has a cheat code to actually turn it off (at least till a button is pushed so it can be accidentally turned on when in your pocket).

    Theres also devices to intercept the signal when you use the remote. Even the box won't necessarily keep you safe. Like the old saying goes, if they're determined, they will find a way. Best measure if you're really concerned is to get a full insurance coverage policy.

    My elderly neighbour was a crafty old chap, he always insured his car for more than it was worth (with some insurers here you can do that). He even told me that he was hoping that somebody would write it off or steal it in order to claim the refund. He's no longer with us, but Murphy's Law being what it is, nothing ever happened to his car and he just ended up paying higher premiums for years.

I worked in a glass shop the last few years, and I was told that some cars now have laminated door glass, which (I think) will not shatter effectively if it's struck by a hammer. I don't see how this could be real, but if it is, you might not be able to escape from some cars.
