Hi Scotty; I have had a coolant loss problem for several months on one of my 2000 saturn sl1's that I operate(I have 3 on the road). Car didn't have any leaks that I could find. The level in the overflow tank keep going down about a pint a week. I checked head gasket with a pressure tester. Checked the cooling system with a 15 psi pressure tester at the overflow tank.; no leaks there, either. Then one day, I was at a Turkey Hill store and left the car running. Though I would be out in a couple minutes only to find the store very busy and only one person at the checkout. 25 minutes later; I returned to the car and found a cloud of steam billowing forth from under the hood! At last!I realized that the problem was the coolant fan wasn't working! Back into The store and $24 later with a gallon of 50:50 antifreeze; I carefully returned home and checked the fan motor with a DVM. The fan was open circuit. That was the cause of my leak problem. $30 for a new one on ebay and all is well!
Found me some honest mechanics last year. I knew by the way they allowed me to watch and the way they troubleshooted my issue that they could be trusted. But I heard the mechanic mention to me afterwards that he was concerned about the misfire in #1. I blew him off but kept his observations in mind. Went home and Googled it. Ended up replacing the spark plugs and ignition coils, cleaned the MAF sensor and throttle body. I also took off the intake box and the complete intake assembly and took it inside to clean it in the sink. Inside and out. Waited an hour and reinstalled everything with a new filter. No more misfire. I probably spent a $100.
Houston is either a parking lot or a speedway. Has been that way for decades. The cops will chase them so that's even more scary! Use hallways. It's safer.
I’m learning so much from your videos! So thankful that you share your knowledge and experience with people like me who know little about vehicles. While I can’t do my own mechanical work, knowledge is power when I go to the shop.
Great Video Scotty.... I Have Found That When Working On Cars It Helps To Use Profanity... When Something Is Being Difficult A Few MF's ,SOB's And D's Do The Trick... Those Profane Words Work Like Magic.
Fun fact: each one of those ignition coils is $150+. I also own a kia forte and i have to maintain it weekly to make sure it doesn’t have problems. Often times, the coil springs go bad and you would think to replace the whole thing, but the dealer will sell them to you for around $2 each. Also, the brake lights tend to work intermittently and tends to blow brake bulbs a lot. If you have this problem, simply get led brake bulbs and adjust the metal contacts within the brake light housing so they actually touch the bulb contacts. Hope this saves someone some time and money.
And it contaminates the muffler bearing so lube it to stop squeak and chk Eng light and always replace muffler bearing with a usa made timken roller bearing chk engine light solved!
I found your YT's about a week ago. I look forward now every day, to my Teacher Mechanic Scotty's Car lessons. It's your arm activity while you're talking, that keeps my mind on task with you. I'm a grandma with 3 kids who don't fit in my 06 caddy cts, so I need to trade for more seats. Haven't gone to a car lot yet. So glad I waited, knowledge is power. Thank you.
Hey Scotty I watch all of your videos. I've learned quite a lot of things. I try to share my new found knowledge when ever I can. I really appreciate your honesty 💯. You are a rockstar!!
You dont monetize beyond RUclips normal incentives. You only care about the information. You have continued to show your love beyond being involved with major distribution and entertainment companies. You inspire me greatly and I think you have inspired many people to create their own RUclips channels
They got rid of automotive class at my HS right before I became a freshman. I was mad. But now channels like this exist, and like I thought back then. I like hearing about how machines work.
Love Scotty’s New York directness! I think a nightmare for Scotty would be being chased by one of the many despised “beauty/engine covers” he’s thrown to the ground!
Thank you soooo much Mr. Scotty Kilmer. I do some of the work on my car. I also help others as well. The things I can't. I definitely don't. Thank you for sharing your honest expertise with the world. Continuous blessings 👍🏽👊🏽💪🏽❤️💜❤️🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
You seem like a good man scotty. You sure know a lot about cars. I appreciate you putting these videos out there. I love to learn how to fix cars. I think youre an excellent teacher. Thanks again.
One of my ignition coils in my Tundra finally cracked after 260,000 miles, i was amazed how long it lasted, i went and replaced all 8 of them, great toyota reliability.
Been there, done that, is what you would like your mechanic to sound like. Lack of patience as cause of problems is a reassuring assessment to hear as well ! It's a shame you usually don't get to watch the mechanics during yearly inspection in Germany.
Just did this to my 97 4runner. Switched coil packs and still same cylinder. Changed the plug and that fixed it but this same thing happened about two and a half years ago with the same cylinder. Driven about 15K miles.
I had oil spill into the cylinder on my first run on general vehicle maintenance. My engine started to misfire. Thanks to RUclips, I figured out the cause and solution to my problem and saved myself a couple of bucks.
Sorry is the beat Real mechanic I've ever heard and seen on social media. Explains how vehicles get damaged and what problems they have and how to avoid them, plus, how to repair them the easy way and clearly
Oh my god. When Scotty pulled that hose off underneath the car and all the coolant shot out with the slow motion and that sound I almost pissed!!! I love this channel!

I probably spent a $100.
finds an honest mechanic, does the work himself. what a guy
Can u do my vehicle next 😏
Seeing the traffic in Houston brought back bad memories. I grew up in LA, but Houston traffic was the worst I'd ever been through.
Houston is either a parking lot or a speedway. Has been that way for decades. The cops will chase them so that's even more scary! Use hallways. It's safer.
You know you're good, when your gloves are still intact.
I’m learning so much from your videos! So thankful that you share your knowledge and experience with people like me who know little about vehicles. While I can’t do my own mechanical work, knowledge is power when I go to the shop.
Always learning something new with Scotty. Makes me wanna work on my car.
Thank you Scotty sir..fixed my 02 Escape 3.0 from this. Runns perfect.
Hey Scotty , miss that brown shed , but , that's progress, I hope you enjoy your new place . Keep up your great work.
How do u know if the coil is bad or jst the coil spring is bad?
It's really good. You speak of misfire problems before you rip and tear. Good job
Sign your engine has problems: pieces of the rings start flying out of the exhaust pipe. 😖
😂
And a sure sign your wallet will get lighter. 😢
Scotty: "Here's the ignition coils. 1, 2, 3, 4"
Me: "REV UP YOUR ENGINES!!!"
Appreciate your work scotty, one of top 3 channels 🔥🔥
You can always go from the #1 hole to the #2 hole, but you NEVER want to go the other way around.
clarify please.
If I live near Scotty, I would never buy a car with less than 100K miles....You are amazing Scotty.. :)
Glad I found this channel
They got rid of automotive class at my HS right before I became a freshman. I was mad. But now channels like this exist, and like I thought back then. I like hearing about how machines work.
"Because I've seen people do it in a hurry and then BOOOOOOOOOOM!"
Lost at it. XD
Thanks again.
a lot of invaluable information. I like your troubleshooting based on logical procedure!
Yea man we all need a scotty kilmer in every town. This man is awesome 👌
Thank you papa Scotty, your a mentor & teacher to so many people & help us with facts to solve problems DIY //
So grateful for the few honest mechanics still left. Down here in central Florida I rely on mobile mark, they're absolutely amazing!
One of my ignition coils in my Tundra finally cracked after 260,000 miles, i was amazed how long it lasted, i went and replaced all 8 of them, great toyota reliability.
engine will probably outlive us
Been there, done that, is what you would like your mechanic to sound like.
Lack of patience as cause of problems is a reassuring assessment to hear as well !
It's a shame you usually don't get to watch the mechanics during yearly inspection in Germany.
Hey there Scotty! Hope you’re doing well!
hello and yes, thank you!
Hi 👋🏻
Just did this to my 97 4runner. Switched coil packs and still same cylinder. Changed the plug and that fixed it but this same thing happened about two and a half years ago with the same cylinder. Driven about 15K miles.
Scotty is back in Texas!
Someone must've brought him a DeLorean to work on and, while test driving it, he got it up to 88mph...
I had oil spill into the cylinder on my first run on general vehicle maintenance. My engine started to misfire. Thanks to RUclips, I figured out the cause and solution to my problem and saved myself a couple of bucks.
That rpm gauge was having a freak out.
Sorry is the beat Real mechanic I've ever heard and seen on social media. Explains how vehicles get damaged and what problems they have and how to avoid them, plus, how to repair them the easy way and clearly
You’re my hero Scotty I’ve learned so much from you😅💯
15:46 the slomo had me dying 🤣🤣
Hi Scotty, pls I want to know the original coil for 2007 Camry because I was told that the one my car is short that it's usually long.
@@confidencepenman4401 original ignition coil or suspension coils?
Plug coil for Camry
@@confidencepenman4401 you could go to any parts store and they should have it, if not they'll order a set for you.
I don't even know whether the one in the car is original or not...
The check engine light came back on, so that's good!
Boy Scotty you are just a mechanical genius, I wished I lived near you for all my troubles.
Man really yeeted the engine cover into a bush @ 1:55 🤣💀 , I'm subscribed!!!!
Oh my god. When Scotty pulled that hose off underneath the car and all the coolant shot out with the slow motion and that sound I almost pissed!!! I love this channel!
Not a day passes by without watching your videos Mr. Scotty, you are much appreciated sir 😎👍
