    Instead of saying "stock block," just say stock casting. That's what it is. Problem solved. The issue is when you talk about stock block in the car community, what you've done to the block falls far outside of the meaning of the term.

      Welcome to furd guy world. They've been hollering stock block shit for a eternity because their junk shit was so modded to stay together the only thing left was the casting.
      Newsflash.....if it needs girdles, fillers, sleeves, o ringed and uber amounts of machining.....it's not a stock block. It's a modified block.

    Here's my take on the stock, vs modded thing, anything you do (boring, milling whatever) takes it away from stock. May as well throw the screws to it, if you are going that far. I don't see a problem

    • @Chris_Harris
      @Chris_Harris 4 года назад +2

      Your take is wrong because everyone who actually makes hotrods would tell you that you're wrong.
      What a "modded thing" exactly? Blocks are either stock...as in made by a manufacturer as a block for 100s of thousands of cars or there are aftermarket blocks that are produced for engine builders for race cars. Modding doesn't change a block from stock to aftermarket because the block...is still the same stock block you started with. You're confusing doing changes to a block with it's official classification. They're not the same thing. You're comparing apples to oranges.
      Takes away from the stock? WTF does that fucking mean? IT's a GM stock block. Perhaps if you knew much about racing and knew that there are engine builders like BAE (we run a BAE Hemi), Musci, Sonnys and all sorts of dudes who make their own NOT STOCK blocks. Then you have general motors. It makes 5.3 and 6.2 and all sorts of STOCK blocks because they are made by Gm and are stock. Sprinkle whatever you want to over a block, it's still either an aftermarket or its a stock effing block.
      Maybe tale an engine course at your local college and get educated versus what you personally want to think? Your personal opinions aside, it's a stock block with new sleeves and bored for that top fuel hoop. That's it.

    • @dragstriprace1255
      @dragstriprace1255 4 года назад

      That's horseshit!!! With your thinking you'd call an ERL block a stock block! To be technically correct these are factory blocks that have been modified and some way more so than others! I think it all comes down to how much a person wants to invest in one of these! There comes a point where it just makes way more sense to go to an aftermarket block such as a Dart or one of the other offerings. I'm pretty sure the most correct way to refer to an engine build such as this one would be to refer to it as a modified factory block. Hardly a stock block in which most people would refer to as a "stock block"! Yeah, the casting is stock, but that's about it!!!! Now if this happens to offend anyone, you can go cry or go find your safe space!!! Dealing with some of you millennials just cracks me up!!!

      Or is a gm block. And not like a dart or something. Would you call a 427 ls3 a stock block? Or would you prefer people to say it's not stock but it's the ls3 that originally came in this exact vette and we bored and stroked it. Think how stupid this conversation looks.
      You are talking about your 427 ls3 camaro. And I ask.
      Stock block?
      No.
      Dart?
      No. It's the block that came in the car stock in fact its actually the original block when I got it new. We just bored it out and threw longer stroke crank in it.
      So how's that not considered a stock block?
      Same with heads. There not stock heads because they are ported.
      But they are ported gm castings that were used in production engines and not like a set of trick or whatever?
      Yes
      How is that not called a stock head? Be spicific and say ported stock head and stroked stock block. But keep the word stock tied to it.

    • @fordfenatic09
      @fordfenatic09 4 года назад

      So is an lsx block, but that's not stock in anything. Stock block means unmodified, production block from a production vehicle. There's no 2 ways about it.

    • @whiskeybravo11
      @whiskeybravo11 4 года назад

      You're missing the point. People do call the lsx block a "stock block"
      Like I said the different is at the aftermarket line.
      I agree with you to a point. If you say you hold a stock engine record it has to be all production parts. But if you say you hold a stock block record. That means you can have aftermarket rotating assembly in it. Not to be confused with stock bottom end. Witch is factory rotating assembly.
      The line is most definitely gray and wide. It is this way because of different options on the matter.

      Yes unless the Procharger is gonna buy you dinner every time you use it. Great front end power but she doesn't keep building like turbos do down the track. There's a point where a couple 98s will be pushing way more topend than a PC will.

      @@rizzoid Ummm not with tuirbos with co2 off the hit. 60 foot just the same...the blower will come on with more power after that but by the stripe, a turbo car could have 10 plus mph on him and thats a big deal when the turbos aren't losing much off the middle.
      Why you think NHRA made racers use 98mm turbos with limited boost despite 108s and a hell of a lot more boost being available for those 527 Hemis? Roots blowers and nitrous would be WRECKED by the turbo cars now that gen2 turbos with sleeved bearings are out and so good.

      Nope not necessarily the case. The factory blocks come with less expensive cast iron sleeves and if they are being replaced with the much better Ductile sleeves then it's not really the same. Cast iron sleeves are way more prone to cracking versus Ductile sleeves.....

    • @dragstriprace1255
      @dragstriprace1255 4 года назад

      Just watched an earlier video showing the sleeves used, and the are indeed some Dorton Ductile Iron sleeves. Much, much better sleeves for sure!!! Thus why they are going this route. In my opinion since they were doing so much work for this block they should go all the way and replace the main caps while they are at it with some billet caps along with pinning them for stability down there!!! The weak link will always be the one to give up!!!

    • @Chris_Harris
      @Chris_Harris 4 года назад +2

      Buddy, if they're going to be doing 1/4mile with it, turbos properly setup will murderize that procharger. Don't forget that the procharger is older and been run through "Turnley's" system of engine destruction. John just about replaced most of the fucking engine because "Turnkey" wasn't following the rules of running a Hemi which are NOTHING like a little 1400hp 5.3LS. Hemi is highest performance but highest maintenance.
      I hate to say it but when I saw turnkey had not only flipped two rockers but was using two DIFFERENT ones on his valvetrain, I shuddered and said, "What else? What the fuck else did that piece of shit bandage using turd do to that engine?"

    • @fourwheelerjock
      @fourwheelerjock 4 года назад

      @@Chris_Harris That's not always the case, You can make any combination fast, Turbo, procharged and even nitrous if you know what the hell you're doing. The ONLY reason i say to stay procharged is bc that's the only different combo he has in his fleet, All the other 15 cars he has is turbo'd and gets boring to watch the same and similar combos. Doesnt have to stay procharged forever, But i'd like to see the blown hemi with some zoomies for a little while. They're fast and wild as fuck to watch. But his car and money tho. Will just be another turbo set up.

    • @Chris_Harris
      @Chris_Harris 4 года назад

      @Paul Wilson He doesn't have a> new Procharger of any kind...he has what was a probably very abuse older and smaller Procharger than the uncharted new ones. b> he most definately doesn't have one of the new Prochargers that have the intake the size of small children that will most definately be outlawed in NHRA due to competition rules like turbos being limited in boost and 98mm size. c> Prochargers haven't been qualified in the area of how their horsepower affects the weight of a car, how it affects a torque converter. Turbo cars are the heaviest cars on the track and every promotion that lets turbos even runs limits the turbos to 98mm or possibly 102mm. The point? Turbos are being held back because they're much better than nitrous and roots blowers technology-wise. Prochargers haven't reached that phase yet so don't get your mind thinking they're better than turbo. Prochargers still are parasites on the raw hp of an engine, just like a roots or a screw blower. Turbo is not and unlimited turbo could accelerate forever if technology allowed it. More exhaust, the faster they spin, the more boost, the more hp, the more exhaust, the faster and so on forever.

    • @Chris_Harris
      @Chris_Harris 4 года назад

      @Paul Wilson Yes however they don't allow Proline 140s. They don't even allow 102s. NHRA rules trickle down to all the outlaw organizations because some of the promods in NHRA go poaching in the larger outlaw events. Stevie Fast bounces up and down like a cheap date. There are others with huge budgets that don't mind the risk of running for basically bragging rights in outlaw. If you look at NoPrep Kings, for instance, they have a LAUNDRY LIST of shit you can't bring in your turbo car along with adding 200 pounds over roots blowers.
      Turbo has been cowled by racing VERY heavily because they were beginning to be the ever living shit out of everything. I've yet to see a racing circuit that allows anything larger than a 102 turbo and doesn't force plates on their car over blower and especially nitrous. Nitrous is like 200-250 pounds less everywhere if nitrous even tries to compete anymore. Mostly nitrous runs its own event beside Proboost now because it really has no chance head to head.
      Why?
      You just can't take a nitrous car to Denver Colorado, enter 1 mile of elevation into your boost controller so it automatically adjusts your whole tune for the lesser air, then get the weather report and find out that it's going to be 75 degrees which you put into your boost controller so it knows the air is going to be better boost weather with cooler air, then you find out big storm with low pressure is coming in and might hit during or after your race so that you might have 10-20 less millibar air pressure for your engine. Again, type it in the boost controller and your car is set to optimize boost and shift points for 1 mile-high air, cool air and weather conditions. Nitrous you sit and pick when you want to spray and how much by nozzle size although by now I think every nitrous guy even attempting high-end racing is running like 6 kits of 600 shots on a 900-1000 cube engine. All you can do is hand adjust timing and your fuel/nitrous management in a much less evolved way.
