    I don't understand why there's not a blanket ban on nuts on airplanes. No one is going to die through having to go without nuts for the duration of their flight but the best outcome to an anaphylactic reaction at 40000 feet is an emergency landing for medical treatment and delays for all on board. I have no allergies and have never objected when cabin crew have requested for everyone to avoid eating nuts

      @@noreply65 So you ban peanuts on aircraft. and in baggage? and prevent people from eating them 48 hours from before flight? and ensure that their clothing and baggage is cleaned as all these can cause cross contamination. @@WhiskeyAlphaPilotno. Ban it on the plane. No need to go further than that. People can live without eating a nut on a plane. My husband has a severe peanut allergy and the women next to him started complaining they couldnt eat their peanuts when it was announced to them there was a passenger on board with a severe allergy. He had to nicely tell them he was sorry but he had the allergy. They changed their tune pretty fast. He wipes his seat and tray down beforehand to avoid touching anything that may have had peanuts beforehand, but you can’t control if someone is eating them next to you and cracking shells making it airborne. There’s really no need for nuts to be on the plane, I think people will be far more inconvenienced to have to land early due to someone having a reaction

      When a "SSR" (nut allergy) request is inserted into a passenger's reservation, that information is forwarded to the airline's catering dept that ensures that particular passenger's meal is prepared accordingly.

    Emirates won't remove nuts, as they make up a important component to their middle eastern diet. It's almost like saying don't include dairy in the UK. Nuts are also central to many middle eastern desserts.
    However, what isn't acceptable is that Jack wasn't able to view the ingredients, or that these weren't made readily available to him. Was his nut allergy advised at booking? Why were no menus handed out? Why would several crew answer no to nuts, when quite clearly this chicken curry has been served many times on this route, is this language barrier issues? So many questions. The crew members wouldn't have wanted to intentionally hurt him, however should have had the confidence to decline serving his this meal until certain of the ingredients. There is an onboard manager that could have easily checked this. Jack, with such a severe allergy, should have checked the ingredients before eating it, especially considering this is the second occasion onboard. He shouldn't HAVE to but unfortunately, this is the world we live in

    Technically, they were right. Cashews aren’t nuts. Nuts are seeds contained within a hard shell. Cashews are classified as drupes, and the cashew “nut” we eat is the seed contained within the fruit. Cashews have the same oil as poison ivy and mangoes. Not saying this makes it any better that they were served. But wonder if the classification issue contributed to the safety breakdown.

    This is not the first time he had allergies on a plane. Therefore, he should know better.
    You cannot forbid people to eat nuts or any other food that can cause allergies.

    This is an honest question... Why are others not supposed to eat nuts because one person is allergic? The nuts don't magically fly through the air into the allergic person. The allergic person has to ingest them to become sick correct? I guess I'm not understanding the concept of banning the nuts altogether.

      Someone I know had a serious reaction after touching a door handle at college - a few hours earlier another student had eaten a peanut butter sandwich before opening that door. Peanuts and other tree nuts give off particles which can be airborne and cause a reaction when inhaled. Why take the risk?

    • @chloesmith7797
      @chloesmith7797 Месяц назад +3

      If the allergy is bad enough, it is airborne yes. My husband for example is allergic to peanuts. If he so much as breathes in a particle, it could set off his allergy. For some people it’s minor and wouldnt affect them so much. Others yes it is airborne, though generally speaking only if someone right next to them were eating the nut and particles were in the air from cracking a peanut shell

If I'm eating something that can be a potential threat then I want to see the packaging. I don't want to assume that it's safe because a second or third party told me. In light of the young girl who died from eating at Pret and the tireless work that her parents did to get clear labeling, you'd think that he'd be on the ball especially given that he's on a plane.
