Agreed. My niece was deeply cut by a branch in the garden and 24 hrs later developed a bad infection. We took her to A&E and she was the last to be seen despite being virtually passed out. The consultant insisted that it wasnt an infection, rather she was probably pregnant. What the actual f**k.

ACROSS THE WORLD THIS IS HAPPENING. The arrogance and self-importance of doctors, nurses and their ilk is WRONG. We pay a FORTUNE for healthcare and the best they could offer is a "boring" virus. What would a simple test have cost? Well, the lack of the test COST Mia her life. They decided and that was that. No further investigating. Once and done, please leave. What happened to 'better safe than sorry'??????

I've heard before that most politicians have a bit of narcissism. I don't know if it's just that or a complete lack of introspection, but doctors are similar. I can't list the number of bad experiences I've had with physicians. They're totally full of themselves, rude, unwilling to listen to patients and indifferent to the patients' health. They misdiagnose, under-diagnose, omit tests and refuse treatment. Not to mention gender and race bias. I feel like there should be strong consequences to malpractice because patients are in a vulnerable state. They literally put their lives in doctors' hands. Or stronger regulation/supervision. Shortage there may be, but letting anyone become (or stay) a doctor is not helping.

My daughter had bacterial meningitis when she was 16. She started with a fever and sore throat at 3p.m. by 5 the next morning she had the rash and was delirious. I drove her to hospital and the nurse looked at her and knew immediately what she had. She said "she is very ill" and whisked us back to a room. Within 10 minutes she'd had a spinal tap and was on i.v. antibiotics. It was so severe that the spinal fluid looked like white glue instead of clear fluid. She had a blood clot in the calf of her leg. She recovered but was left with a brain dysfunction. So scary. I thank God for that triage nurse who knew exactly what she was seeing.

    • @jessicaolson490
      @jessicaolson490 2 месяца назад +6

Sepsis protocol was broken. That's also why there are sepsis protocols too because you can't wait for a culture to grow. It's based off your vital signs and a couple blood test that basically see if your immune system is being activated. They still run the cultures and then if they come back negative in the next few days then they stop the antibiotics.

Your government's policy is to dismiss patient's health concerns instead prioritizing finances and cost savings. It's terrible. When I go to the doctor in my country, I don't have to fight for antibiotics and medication. Antibiotics are not dangerous in normal circumstances but your people are scare mongered into thinking anti biotics are the worst thing in the world. It's bizarre. Luckily at my level of specialist care I don’t run into it as much but I do see it. And the bureaucracy has increased triple fold, at least. So easy to get run over by the machinery of the hospital system. Now more than ever you have to advocate for yourself or have a loved one do it for you if you can’t.🇺🇸

It went on for 10 days, I took her to hospital a hand full of of times and every time was made to feel I was over reacting, I said to the doctor, what am I supposed to do when an 8 year old has lost the ability to use her legs, she also had a red rash on her legs. It turned out she had myositis, and it has now turned into a long term immune system response… saying everything is “just a virus” is ridiculous, especially when Covid was “just a virus” and we shut down the whole would out of apparent fear? It’s more of the fact that you can’t do anything for a virus usually but wait it out. You can’t treat a virus with antibiotics.
But, this is still a problem. It’s an overcorrection from the days we gave antibiotics for everything and the bacteria adapted and became resistant. We shouldn’t go back to that but anyone showing this many symptoms of a deadly bacterial infection should be treated with antibiotics. There’s got to be a middle ground between giving out antibiotics at every doctor visit vs never giving them unless something is proved bacterial ( takes a lot of time) and letting people die of treatable infections.

My solicitor said I shouldn’t feel guilty for suing as they have millions of £s put aside for this. It will never bring a loved one back. But the money is necessary for making the health service pay for there mistakes. Only money can do this.

My bleeding blood vessels in my brain was referred to as blips by my doctor following a suspected TIA I later found out I have cerebral deceased. This was down to not having my diabetes controlled, I’d been begging my doctors to refer me to a diabetic clinic. It was refused because I wasn’t taking the maximum tablet dosage as was the guidelines from NHS. I paid to see a private endocrinologist who said I should have been on insulin 3 years prior. I am a recently retired nurse of 43 years, the Drs calling literally everything a “ virus “ has become a lethal epidemic, my son almost died 4 months ago after being misdiagnosed in our local ER ( fortunately his NP was smarter than the ER Dr and did appropriate testing and literally saved his life, I went to the same ER in late April different Dr who didn’t know what was wrong with me and dismissed me, I was extremely fortunate to get an appointment with a specialist quickly ( never happens like that!) given an appropriate diagnosis, treatment started immediately as my organs were shutting down, it is terrifying to get sick, it’s like these medical Drs are too lazy to investigate and just dismiss literally everything as a “ virus “ next time they tell us that I’m going to ask what testing brought that conclusion 😡

For my granddaughter it started as what seemed like a virus, but after weeks of not improving and waking up hardly being able to walk, the family decided she needed to see a specialist. After different doctors and tests it was diagnosed by a pediatric rheumatoid arthritis doctor. If it’s (JIA) antibiotics are not the answer, but there are treatments that alleviate the symptoms.

My son came down with bacterial meningitis when he was 9 and of course the doctors never diagnosed it as such, however, they did give him 2 different antibiotics IV in hospital and he pulled through. They also wanted to take him to surgery to cut a hole in his head to see what type of bacteria were there. I said NO. A previous doctor thought that it was just torticollis, wrong dx. I figured it all out years later. It is amazing what these doctors don't know and how they can endanger your life if you don't get lucky.

It was absolutely drilled into us when my daughter was a baby 20+ years ago. Always on TV, posters in pharmacies, GPs etc. It's a very simple way for non medical ppl to test. My own daughter was admitted as a baby with suspected meningitis because of the rash. It wasn't very wide spread, a few on her legs and she was grisly but not noticeably "sick." We called the GP because of the few non blanching spots and she said hospital immediately. They took her from us the moment we arrived, paediatrician came down, she had a lumbar puncture, (very unpleasant,) and given IV antibiotics despite meningitis testing negative. I feel terrible for these parents. I feel had she been a baby they may have been focused on the possibility of meningitis. Tragic.

Having been under the NHS since birth (:1988) I’ve definitely noticed a huge shift in the level of care patients receive. Back then the common response was to ‘over- react’ but now it’s swung dangerously the other way with doctors ‘under-reacting’……..and I’d like to know why!
Is this all due to a lack of funding?
Are staff being quietly encouraged to limit the care provided to patients in order to lower treatment costs? Because there’s no good reason why so many people failed to diagnose it was meningitis.
Personally, I’ve noticed how it’s harder to access specific treatment now, even the ones recommended by a physician.
Whatever the root cause, cases like this have to stop.

@MoonlightForest - Yes. Due to them, NHS, stating they are worried about antibiotic resistance, they refuse to give antibiotics, claiming they can find nothing wrong with you. My 82 year old dad had a UTI, he was told by his GP to go to A&E as he had a UTI. A&E said he had nothing wrong with him, and didn't give him any medication. They gave no guidance and just left it at that - nothing wrong So, we had to home-treat.
I had a severe infection that I knew I needed strong antibiotics for, yet I was also told I had nothing wrong with me. I had to contact a previous medical department in a different county, to ask what I had before. I then had to contact my GP and request them to write me a prescription for the antibiotics I desperately needed. It is absolutely shameful how they are blatantly REFUSING to give antibiotics. Also especially when it is a known fact the elderly d*e from UTIs every day.

Eventually, I was suffering from erectile dysfunction, low testosterone, and weight gain. I was passing out all the time... this continued until I was 35. At 35, I was diagnosed with uncontrolled diabetes by an endocrinologist.
I asked my Dr why she never caught diabetes even after knowing all my symptoms. She said that testosterone isn't really that important because women live perfect lives with lower T than men... but I'm an effing man. I didn't know I could sue. It is sooo heartbreakingly sad! 😢😢
I’m personally utterly disappointed with doctors in hospital’s’ emergency rooms and medical care in general!
I once not only have been completely ignored in emergency for over 3 hours without any intervention for heart pain and extremely high blood pressure, but physically abused. Being placed in a very noisy corridor with a lot of traffic, endless loud speaker broadcasts and visitors calls and loud talks around me, I couldn’t bear any more headache and decided to go home. When I got up and tried to visit the bathroom, a nurse called security, and 4 men broke into the locked washroom when I still was in a vulnerable position, pulled me out by my all four extremities and then pinned me against the wall injuring my face! There were NO arguments or any aggressive actions on my side prior to that, except that I told a nurse that all the noice was becoming too unbearable to me to handle my headache, and I wanted to go home to stay in quite.
Apparently, they minded me using a washroom in the hospital when I decided to leave; such was the security’s explanation to police that I called for after the incident. Nine months later I am still remembering this horror with chilling shivers and a lamp in my throat, not to mention months long consequences of ptsd trauma. To me the image of an emergency is now associated with a jail’s torture chamber! And as I remember this, tears of the experienced humiliation become involuntary! This happened at the North York General Hospital of Toronto, Canada. I feel that they need to be “famous” for the whole international medical community!

I am so disgusted with the doctor's not giving antibiotics. I nearly died a few years ago after a dog bite. I rescue dogs and one of my rescues bit me, not because he wanted to hurt me, but it was a fight with another dog over food. I stepped in to stop it and got my hand bit pretty hard. That night my hand hurt so bad, I decided to go to the ER. The ER doctor gave me Cipro IV and sent me home. It got way worse. I went to my regular doctor and begged him to give me doxycycline and he refused, said cipro is the one to use. I happened to have 6 doxycycline capsules left from one of my rescue dogs that had Lymes Disease and passed away from it. So I took all 6 of them in a glass of water and the next morning my hand and arm up to my shoulder was back to normal. The huge swelling was so bad that I would have lost my arm or life without the antibiotic. Thank God I saved that little dog, because she saved me in the end with the doxycycline.

As a medical doctor, I think the first consultation could have missed some things but was not seriously problematic. However, the second one where the patient was clearly seriously ill, involved a lot of incompetence. It should be clarified that meningitis can be caused by both bacteria and viruses. What's important is the the history and physical examination. Anyone with a combination of fever, headache and neck stiffness should be considered to have meningitis. Since it is difficult to distinguish viral and bacterial causes of meningitis, it is prudent to give antibiotics first (in case it's bacterial) and just discontinue it if workups reveal a viral cause, e.g. HSV1 or HSV2.

This is heartbreaking. I’m so sorry for her loved ones.
I went to ER a few mos ago feeling horrible. The dr said my tests (blood and chest X-rays) were NORMAL. I told him I knew I was sick, something was wrong. He said go to hospital if I’m not better by next day.
I was in line to checkout. I was so weak, I was leaning on wall. All of a sudden, the door to exam area flew open! The dr was rushing to catch me. He had looked at my tests and I HAD PNEUMONIA!!! He had dismissed my symptoms and LIED to me. 😡

very common, i heard in the US, close to 10% of deaths are due to malpractice...i once calculated 80% medical error among all my medical appointments....

My heart aches for this couple. Theres NOTHING that will bring her back. All the doctors involved should have license taken away and possibly sued. Most doctors today are so arrogant and uncaring. That's why I avoid going to them.

If you aren't getting answers or if you know there is something more serious going on, you do NOT have to stay with the same doctors, same hospital, or even the same STATE, you can "fire" your doctors and go elsewhere! If you don't have the resources, please reach out to whoever you can to see if you can get help for your family. I am alive because of a second opinion. My stepfather didn't have life-altering surgery because he told his cancer doctors "Up yours" and found other treatment. Don't think you have to take the first answer or option, and your options are only as limited as your resources.
