For those new to contacts, over a few weeks, those reflexes to shut your eye will gradually go away. I started out putting them more off to the side of my iris so I don't see a finger coming toward my eye. Then once stuck on the eye, slowly nudging it toward the center, using slow blinks if needed. (Fast blinks can pop it out if it's not already in the center of the eye) You will get it, hang in there. Good luck!!

Lmao 3rd day in and I could do it in 5 minutes, and 1st day took me only 10 minutes… my optometry instructor showed me special way to put lenses in(very very different from this video tutorial) and it’s very easy….it all depends on optometry instructors, there are those who don’t care about you, and there are who really care and boost your confidence…I know this cause 2 years ago went like 5 times in 2 months to optometry and couldn’t do it, this time my 1st visit in 2 years, and put them in/out in 10 minutes…
fr, I thought I could never get it down. Literally took me 2+ hours to get one of them in my first time. Week later, it takes me less than a minute for both lenses. u really just gotta find a way that works best for you.
I’ve been wearing contacts since 2009. I remember the first time I was able to successfully get both contacts in without help. I was super excited... until I realized I was going to have to take them out. I originally had bi-weekly lenses but now I wear daily lenses and love them. It’s scary at first but I think it’s 100% worth it!
I love my contacts! The first time I put them in it was weird because I’m so used to wearing something on my face! The best part was that I could see so clearly!
I’ve been wearing them for ten years now, I remember crying after trying to get them out for over a half hour from frustration. But now I can put both eyes in and take both eyes out at the same time even if i really wanted to. Getting them in: have lens on index finger tip, use middle finger to open eye, and insert the lens. Taking them out: using thumb and index pinch the bottom of the lens to make a “V” and it breaks the seal, and pull down gently then remove. Also - Having nail extensions makes taking them out a LOT harder, but insertion is the same.
When I take out my contacts, I just hold my finger against the lense and slowly slide it off of iris and down towards the corner of my eye. Usually once it gets to the corner it folds up a little and is easier to pull out, but even if it doesn't fold, I find it's easier to grab it from the corner instead of just picking it off my eye.
quick tip for contact removal: for me i absolutely hated dragging them down and off my eye, its nearly impossible for me not to blink no matter what. i found it much easier to do it my own way which is.. look towards your nose (not down at it but in that direction in the center of your face) open your eyelid with your fingers as usual and slowly take your other hand and move the lense off your cornea onto the white partt of your eye (out in the direction of your ears) before carefully pinching it and taking it out. because of the structure of our eyelids youll find you have much more space to work with if you do it horizontally instead of vertically. hopefully this alternate solution helps somebody
@@damienmoore1376 I'm glad. When I wrote this I had just got my first lenses and I still use this method even now. Sliding it down my eye still sounds extremely complicated and painful.
Don’t get frustrated if you don’t get your contacts in! It’s natural for your eye to shut when an object is approaching! Give it a week or two and your eyes will get used to it. It took me a while to finally get used to contacts. #1 tip, DONT GET DISCOURAGED
Some tips I picked up the past decade that I've been wearing contacts daily: 1)Use a small face mirror so that you're looking down when inserting the lense (helps more than you'd think) 2)try focusing on the mirror instead of the lense when inserting 3)when inserting them, move them slightly side to side and in a circular motion (the eye tears slightly and helps with comforting fit straight away) 4)when removing them, look to the side (the eye you're removing from must be looking at the ridge of your nose) then move the lense to the white of your eye before removing with the pinch technique (wet fingers make it harder to remove) 5)When the lense feels dry, take some solution and drip a few drops on your finger (so that your finger is wet) and dab the lense with it and slightly move the lense around (helped with the late night studying) 6)If you fell asleep or took a nap with the lenses and they stick (like you can't move them around on your eye) don't panick, wet your finger with the solution and dab the lense, gently start moving it (your eye will probably move with it, but it will eventually move and you can remove it. (Please don't sleep with your contacts). 7)Clean the lenses at least once a week (if it's monthly lenses) 8)Always wash your hands before touching your lenses (if you can't, at least try keep it to an absolute minimum) 9)don't wear them too long, you'll develop veins on your eyes.
@@rubyytasmr Yes please! I am new to contacts and was given a monthly disposable to try. They look like they are milky or may have deposits on them already needing to be cleaned. How do I clean them? I may just go to daily disposables because I will not likely get thirty days of use from the monthly wear lenses.
@@t.k.morris hey there so I've been using them from like 2 months and here's how I clean them: I take one lens one my palm and add the lens solution like 4 to 5 drops and gently rub the lens on both sides using my finger tips. Before doing this make sure to wash your contact case with water and air dry it. Don't use any fabric or tissue or even that makes it dirty. I do this cleanup like twice a week and it works for me. Hope this helps❤️

It was when you said here's another way you can do it and do not be afraid of that funny feeling - expect it and relax. That was the magic words for me. I can't believe it! After 30 years I did it!!! Now I just have to get them out.... I'll be watching your videos after work tonight. See ya later & thanks again!! Oh I want to hug you! You're a good person! A good, good person!!!
Same with me. I can't insert any eye drops myself at all. And when others do it, they hardly can open my eye. Unlucky, my miopía is far more than - 10, so glasses are thick and don't correct my sight
This is the best tutorial for contact lenses there is. Having just got lenses I have been struggling to get the in and out (out is easier IMO). After watching Antonio, they were in in 5 minutes. I am more confident with them now, was actually considering not using them, but not any more. Thanks Antonio. Subscribed. Looking forward to more of your videos.
For any first time contact users I promise you it gets easier! My first time putting them in and taking them out took nearly an hour! Now it takes not longer than 1 min to get them in and out (would be quicker than that but my natural lashes are super long and get in the way sometimes)
@@omo1530 your contacts will already come in a packaging that already has solution in it so you technically don’t need to add the eye drops unless your eyes feel dry after applying the contacts to your eyes. PSA incase you don’t know what dry eyes feel like:(When they feel dry it’s very uncomfortable and feels like an eyelash is sitting on your eye)
@@user-sk4cw5lx4f Omg thank you, that's very helpful. I forgot to include eyedrops in my purchase, I got worried that I won't be able to use it until I buy eyedrops. Thank youuuu!
@@omo1530 i usually put a drop or two of solution on the inside of my lenses. i find it makes them “suck” onto the cornea/eye easier and i have really bad dry eyes so it helps prevent the scratchy feeling that brings.

I've been using contact lenses for almost two years, I wish this video was up back then. Thanks for making this video for those people who are new to applying contact lenses
It will come with practice, it’s not normal to have something come at your eye and not flinch😂 my tips are to hold the eyelids open firmly, aim centrally and try to aim for 3 seconds of finger-to-eye contact before releasing
It took me half an hour to finally manage to put it only in one eye and now I'm watching videos bcoz I did not anticipate this to be soo difficult I mean dam you muscles
Ah thank you, I actually hold my eyes the wrong way after trying it for the first time, therefore I couldn't get it in, also my eyelashes kept interrupting! I also ended up dropping it on floor but quickly rinsed it with sol on my palm, and immediately put it away in the lens box. I'll try again later 🤧
what i do is use the side of my pointer finger, then i slide the contact to the bottom of my eye (no need to worry about it getting stuck in your eye, it's sealed off at the bottom!), then i can just grab it right there
When I put them on (today for the first time) it stung so hard I panicked so desperately trying to take it out. I'm still trying to calmly insert it but everything takes time
I would look at glasses so you can take them on and off easily. If not, then probably reusable ones would be better, because you can store the lens in solution while you sleep and re-use them
@@AntonioTheOptom thank you doc. I just look older than my age when I wear glasses that is why I prefer using lenses. Buuuut, I’ll take your advise. ♥️

For anyone struggling to get contacts in, it took me many hours of trying to get contacts in and out. I know it seems impossible but it will get easier. What helped me was not putting the contact on my finger tip, but on the side part of my finger, almost like at 1:14 except more on the side.
3:27 I try to do this but man I’m so flinchy that my body won’t even let my finger get under my upper eyelid Edit 1: Day 5 here still haven’t been able to put my contacts in once. I’m so discouraged and frustrated. Especially when I see people getting it done way quicker than me. I have my next appointment in 2 days and I’m going to have to tell them I couldn’t even get one of them in 🤦🏾♂️ Edit 2: Day 5 still here and I just lost my right contact as soon as I started to see some sort of potential breakthrough. It’s 1:23 am so technically it’s day 6, I’ve tried so many methods in the comments and on safari and somehow even found myself looking on Reddit, but still can’t get one in. Now that I’ve lost one it made me feel more disappointed in myself than angry.
I got my first contact lens prescription yesterday and it took me forever to get them in, and they had to take one out for me. it's like my eyeball has a brain of its own saying "no, no, no, please stop."
I’ve had contacts since I was 12 (I’m 20 now) and I can’t live without them! It feels so good to put them in in the morning when my eyes are all tired and crusty feeling 😂
An excellent and very complete tutorial. Thank you! SO many tutorials do not include removal. The end is just as important as the beginning. Great job with the visuals and the props, and the very calm and clear instructions with troubleshooting included. Just perfect.
If it’s too difficult to swirl them on the eye, just make sure it’s flat wherever it is on the eye and then slowly close your eyelid over the contact. Look around in all directions with your eyes closed. Then open your eyes and blink profusely. If you tear up and start crying, don’t worry about it! It’s totally natural! Don’t rub the tears or rub your eyes or you might dislodge the contact or hurt yourself. Just keep blinking. It may take a few minutes to get used to it, but it will position itself if you look around and keep blinking :)
Use a small face mirror and look down at it, looking down helps a lot since it massively reduces the chances of dropping the lense (been wearing contacts for a decade now and still do this). When you're looking down at a mirror you can focus on inserting the lense without needing to worry about it falling off (also focusing on your lashes instead of the approaching lense helps). When you open your eye with your finger to insert or remove the lense, close your eye, place the finger your using to open it on the center of your closed eye and gently pull up. this also helps prevent your eyelid naturally twitch and close before the lense is properly in, since you have the lid itself with your finger
Is anyone else here watching this video after foolishly assuming that touching your eyeball to insert a foreign object would be easy then realizing you don't know shit so now you're trying to watch this tutorial for help but now you're struggling to see anything because your eyes are all red and dry from the abuse u just put them through?
Literally save this guys video. Every time I am having a hard time taking them out I watch his video and calm down and then I take them out first try. 🙏🙏
This video is so informative, thank you doctor! I have been wearing lenses for 1 year now and I can assure everyone who’s struggling: it will become easier as you get used to it, do not worry!!! At first, the thing I had more difficulty with was to remove them since I didn’t know this tip which you have to slide the lenses down towards your sclera to then pinch it, I used to try to pinch it while on my cornea, which’d make me freak out since we aren’t used to touching our cornea when we first use lenses. Then I found out this tip and it was a piece of cake, really. What still happens to me, though, is sometimes, when wearing them for the first seconds, they don’t adjust quickly so my vision gets a bit blurry for a few seconds till the lenses can adjust themselves to my cornea. Other than that, it’s been really good to wear lenses.
i have really bad reflexes so ive been struggling with lenses for so long :( no matter what i do it always fails in either me chickeninng out or crying 😅
I watched every video out there about how to insert contacts as a beginner and this was literally the ONLY one that worked for me. It took some practice and I now put this video on every time I'm about to have another "lesson" and just listen to it in the background. I feel like I'm almost a "pro" now after 2 weeks of daily practice. Thanks Antonio!!!
I really want to get contacts, i have been to the eye clinic 3 times for training (1 hour each time) and i have come a long ways since the first time with holding the eye open, but can't seem to stop blinking at the last minute. They are only giving me one more chance, any other ideas? :( Edit: I failed my last time 😭 the doctor said some people just can't get rid of the natural reflex. Hoping to try again next year
It's my first time wearing contact lenses and I was worried it'll be hard to take them out or put them in cause i read comments saying it took them hours, but I got both of mine out in less than a minute. I felt like a pro. Thanks 😂
Thank you for this great instructional video. I’ve struggled for a month, and quitting in frustration. After your video I realized i wasn’t opening my eye wide enough. After this great video I got both in on the second try. Thanks!!
I recently started wearing contacts and for me I find it easy to put it in but it was a pain in the a** to take them out. (I have astigmatism btw) The first night I had to take them out it took me 3 hrs and I only got them out because my sister held my eye open. The next nights I still needed her help until one night she had class and I had to figure it out for myself. I always had more trouble with the left than the right. The trick I used for the right didn’t work on the left and I was so upset. (The trick for the right was to put my fingers on the lens, hold for 5 sec, and pinch off) So that night I put both fingers on the left eye and I moved the contact over and looked the other way and pinched and it came out. If you are seeing this I hope you can use my tricks and don’t give up on yourself it takes time to find what works for you.
What makes it easy for me to take them out is that I look onto the white part of the eye on the bottom of the lens then I pinch the edge on the bottom so to say. That way I dont have to put my fingers directly to my pupil. Putting them in is such a hassle for me! Because I can’t stand my finger coming to my eye!
5:07 hell no, removal is the part of wearing contacts i dread most, i usually just don't wear them because taking them out is so difficult for me. I have tiny eyes that when fully stretched open isn't much bigger than my iris, and that makes all the conventional methods of removal really difficult. Just recently while trying to take my contact out it tore in my eye and hurt so bad.
I also have small eyes, my optometrist suggested using eye drops first then trying to locate the edges of the lense and gently pinching them, the lens folds and can be get put of the eye, that's how I get mine removed even if I don't fully open my eye during this. But putting them in is a real struggle for me, both because of blinking and my eyes being really small (but blinking seems to be main issue)
i still can’t do it :( i feel so discouraged reading all the comments, idk what i’m doing wrong, i’ve watched so many tutorials and have been trying for a whole month now for hours everyday and i still can’t do it :/ i guess i’ll always be stuck with glasses even tho i hate it. i have really bad vision so my glass lenses are really thick and i was told laser eye surgery is a huge risk because of how high my power is 🥲 i thought contact lenses would be my only way to experience life without glasses but i guess they’re not for me 😔 i’ve been bullied for how thick my glasses are so i wanted these to work so badly 😭
I’ve been wearing contacts since 7th grade and I don’t need a mirror to put them in or take them out……it is hard for me to watch others touch their eyes tho….oh yeah I am 34 now
i just had an appointment and after 40 minutes i still couldn’t get it in. i have another appointment soon and i want lenses so badly before i go back to school in 2 weeks. my biggest problem is i cant get my eyes wide enough edit i got them in and i finally bought sunglasses
@@jasa4225 try doing the method where you only pull your bottom lid and you tilt your head down towards your neck, that’s the way it worked for me, much better than pulling both eyelids in my opinion

Hi, I need some help. I started wearing contacts a week ago and I couldn’t be happier, except that any light whatsoever is physically painful. I’m in a dark room with only my phone light on lowest brightness and it really hurts my eyes. What can I do to help? I fully acknowledge that any reply given is not to be accepted as medical advice by a doctor or whatever I need to say.
Yeah good question, it’s best to see a clinician for this problem because if it’s a recent occurrence, then the optometrist will need to know if it is an inflammatory episode (which will involve case history, examination and diagnosis). I could say here that pain after seeing light is normal (to some degree it is) but if it’s due to an inflammatory response then it shouldn’t be overlooked
I can get my contacts in but it takes an hour or two so I don’t have enough time to do it for school, my problem is that my eyes are very reactive and blink easily. Does anyone know any exercises to help desensitize it? Thanks!
Firstly make sure it’s flipped the right way around with the Taco test and then if it’s still staying on the fingertip you are not opening your eyelids wide enough, OR not holding them strongly enough while doing the insertion
It can also mean your fingers aren't dry enough. After you wash your hands, be sure to dry them thoroughly. The lens will want to stick to the wettest thing it touches.
Thanks for this! I have an appointment soon to learn how to insert and remove them soon, and this helps a bit. My problem is that I have an extreme blink reflex and my eyes water soooo easily. Even just thinking about eyes makes them water. It takes me ages to get through the tests of eye exams haha. I'll start practicing pulling my eyelids. :)
Great tutorial! I have a fitting today and it was suggested that I watch videos before coming in. Yours was perfect! Hoping it'll be easy for me since I have no issues touching my eyes. :) Thank you!
Putting the lenses in looks to easy to me, it's taking it out, like yeah sure, I can deal with quickly placing a thing in my eye and blinking, but taking it out? Dragging it on the pink parts of my eyes? Those parts of my eyes are more sensitive, and then PINCHING the lenses? I have absolutely no way how I'll know if deal with seeing me pinching my eye! I'm quite used to getting stuff in my eye, like drops, but getting something OUT of my eye by pinching is something I cannot do :(

🤣 i remember being a beginner and now after more than a decade of using it... I dont need this... I dont even need a mirror... I use one single finger to put in contact cause I need to do is open my eyes, my eyes dont even blink cause they're trained not to and 2 finger squeeze to remove and its super easy... also I wanna add that u need to use unscented soaps because the fragrance ones can irritate your eyes and can leave some residual scent on them that can lead to irritation to the eye and even can ruin the contacts... my go to soap is Dawn its safe and I never have any irritation ever but natural soap is fine too
Don’t worry guys, I used to be very bad with contacts I would always flinch at the OPSM and I and to try next week. The trick is to grip your eye lid and the bottom eye lid and try this everyday for 1 week. It took me 30 minutes and I can put contact lenses in 3 minutes.
I actually bought one of those applicators and it was a game changer for me... because not only do I feel like it's more hygienic, I also can apply the lenses waaay faster and easier, as opposed to using my fingers, because they get very adherent to the lens after washing my hands and the application became a nightmare (yes, I did dry them thoroughly, they're just porous). Also, I find it easier to just keep my eye open wide with 2 fingers from 1 hand instead of the method you showed, which triggers a pain in my shoulder somehow and makes my hand tremble ( old injury).. and you don't want trembling hands when applying contacts.

Don’t get frustrated if you don’t get your contacts in! It’s natural for your eye to shut when an object is approaching! Give it a week or two and your eyes will get used to it. It took me a while to finally get used to contacts. #1 tip, DONT GET DISCOURAGED
💪
i never realised how small my eyes were until i held a contact lens to it and it was double the height of my open eye
😭😭😭 oh noooo
Yeah I have small hooded eyes and it’s so hard holding my eye open wide enough to fit the contact in
Some tips I picked up the past decade that I've been wearing contacts daily:
1)Use a small face mirror so that you're looking down when inserting the lense (helps more than you'd think)
2)try focusing on the mirror instead of the lense when inserting
3)when inserting them, move them slightly side to side and in a circular motion (the eye tears slightly and helps with comforting fit straight away)
4)when removing them, look to the side (the eye you're removing from must be looking at the ridge of your nose) then move the lense to the white of your eye before removing with the pinch technique (wet fingers make it harder to remove)
5)When the lense feels dry, take some solution and drip a few drops on your finger (so that your finger is wet) and dab the lense with it and slightly move the lense around (helped with the late night studying)
6)If you fell asleep or took a nap with the lenses and they stick (like you can't move them around on your eye) don't panick, wet your finger with the solution and dab the lense, gently start moving it (your eye will probably move with it, but it will eventually move and you can remove it. (Please don't sleep with your contacts).
7)Clean the lenses at least once a week (if it's monthly lenses)
8)Always wash your hands before touching your lenses (if you can't, at least try keep it to an absolute minimum)
9)don't wear them too long, you'll develop veins on your eyes.
Wow! That’s for the informative tips!
How-to clean monthly lens?
@@rubyytasmr Yes please! I am new to contacts and was given a monthly disposable to try. They look like they are milky or may have deposits on them already needing to be cleaned. How do I clean them? I may just go to daily disposables because I will not likely get thirty days of use from the monthly wear lenses.
@@t.k.morris hey there so I've been using them from like 2 months and here's how I clean them:
I take one lens one my palm and add the lens solution like 4 to 5 drops and gently rub the lens on both sides using my finger tips.
Before doing this make sure to wash your contact case with water and air dry it. Don't use any fabric or tissue or even that makes it dirty. I do this cleanup like twice a week and it works for me.
Hope this helps❤️
i cant get them in without using mirrors, its impossible for me lol.
You're the only one that actually makes sense with the contacts. I'm totally going to do this when I am more awake.

Same with me. I can't insert any eye drops myself at all. And when others do it, they hardly can open my eye. Unlucky, my miopía is far more than - 10, so glasses are thick and don't correct my sight

For any first time contact users I promise you it gets easier! My first time putting them in and taking them out took nearly an hour! Now it takes not longer than 1 min to get them in and out (would be quicker than that but my natural lashes are super long and get in the way sometimes)
Do you use contact lens eyedrops or it is not required? I am still a beginner hehe.

Edit 2: Day 5 still here and I just lost my right contact as soon as I started to see some sort of potential breakthrough.
Gotta love contacts 😂 almost feels like an extension of the cornea
Good suggestions! 👍

Same here🥲
Use a small face mirror and look down at it, looking down helps a lot since it massively reduces the chances of dropping the lense (been wearing contacts for a decade now and still do this).

Why did I get contacts 😭 struggling to take em for the past 3 hours
It’s natural instinct 😂 you have to be ruthless and fight them to some degree to nail it!

Thank you for this great instructional video. I’ve struggled for a month, and quitting in frustration. After your video I realized i wasn’t opening my eye wide enough. After this great video I got both in on the second try. Thanks!!
Yay!! Glad I could be of assistance
Try to move the lens away from the cornea to minimise the potential damage you could cause to it 😄 but thanks for sharing your tips!
😢
@@AntonioTheOptom same I try take out mine for about 2 and half hours to the point my eyes turns red
It's the other way around with me, taking them off easier than putting them in
I also have small eyes, my optometrist suggested using eye drops first then trying to locate the edges of the lense and gently pinching them, the lens folds and can be get put of the eye, that's how I get mine removed even if I don't fully open my eye during this. But putting them in is a real struggle for me, both because of blinking and my eyes being really small (but blinking seems to be main issue)

@@VQHaze thanks for the advice!
What if the contact stays on my fingertip even though I touched my eyeball?

Im trying more than 3 days but unfortunately I'm not able to do that lens insertion 😌🙂 let see what happened tomorrow😅😅...
😁👍
Its the only way to go. Use a pen-cap if need be.
