His real skill was in finding a parking spot in the stadium carpark.
Yeah, it would have been more realistic if he had just ditched it in the middle of the driving path. And I guess those 2 crooks were screwed, because the cops were close behind and he didn't park far from the entrance.
😂
@@mmclaurin8035 aren't there different exits??
The game was over. People are leaving the stadium, it would've of been easy to find a spot.
I said the same thing …three unrealistic parts in this movie first one was getting that parking spot right in the front but remember a lot of people leave the game before it ends. That’s the best time to get the spot in the front anyway thinking of it that way.
Any other movie has the thieves freaking out and shouting at the driver what to do. It's actually nice to finally see a couple guys that know when to keep their mouths shut and just let the driver drive
Drive (2011)
Agreed. Plus, the silence deepens the tension of the scene. It's a masterpiece of cat-and-mouse
worst get away driver ever
1 star would not recommend
" he left us in a parking garage surrounded by law enforcement while we were dressed like fn cat burglars.. He got himself a disguise and got away.. wheres our hat mother f'r!!!"
@@patrickosmium733 - 08:33 They also were taking off their jackets and had already stashed away their masks. They would have blended in with the crowd and walked right out like he did. They were both "white" guys in a sea of "white" guys, so good look to the police pointing them out when they have no clue what they look like.
@@patrickosmium733"We're grateful you chose us as your law avoiding service. Thank you for sharing your feedback, we're looking forward to meet your expectations next time you rob something. When it comes to the best getaway experiences, our customers always come (get out) first!" 😂
What I find most interesting about this scene is that it's an elaborate, drawn-out car chase, but the camera never once leaves the car the entire time the protagonist is driving. We're right there with him
More like, we are literally him.
The title of the film is "Drive" and it is about the driver...so who or what would you like the camera to focus on in the opening 10 of the film??? Dinnae quit your day job...
@@datgrrl5698 This is a pretty great troll comment, it didn't work on me but I respect it. You must be great at pissing off 14 year-olds who don't know better 😂
awesome observation
@@romilrh Well played. 👏
This scene has a silent apprehensiveness that is just perfect
no replies, really?? I think its the silence of the people is what makes this scene.
The best Michael Mann movie not made by Michael Mann
Perfect what you said !
It's got the Micheal Mann hallmarks, LA at night, mesmerising music and minimal dialogue. Just pure class!
@@emilyf13ify It also owes a shit ton to The Driver, by Walter Hill
Real talk
@@emilyf13ify tienes razón saludos desde Argentina 🇦🇷✌️
I like how he just continuously drives right toward the cops the whole time.
"nobody will be looking at you."
The roaring acceleration is the best transition from silence of hiding to action of pursue.
I´ve went wannabe film nerd myself - and the contrast of silence with a bet seems to be the selling point here and there, and poetry.
A remarkable film in so many ways. When Gosling signed on for the leading role, the producers gave him the right to choose the director, and he chose Danish filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn. The screenplay came from Iranian-born British writer Hossein Amini. Gosling and Refn, along with other principal cast, all moved into the same house together during the shoot. The film earned over $81 million against a small (by Hollywood standards) production budget of $15 million.
Holy shixt.
One of my favourite openings to any film.
You may stay.
Great soundtrack, cinematography, performances.

Chromatics - Tick Of The Clock
Totally agree !
The ambience and sound design is so perfect it just feels like that we are actually sitting right beside gosling on passenger seat
Yeah no... the sound design is pretty bad, at least when it comes to the car with its continuous gear changes that make no sense.
@@superking-nicolaslucau7252 and your opinion counts because?
No
@@superking-nicolaslucau7252agreed. He was already on the bridge going over 50 mph, then he hits the has and changes gear 4 or so times afterwards.
One of the coolest opening scene
The way he opens the door is so nice

I am literally Ryan Gosling.
5:37, when he guns it he's still moving with the pace of traffic lol
Agreed…otherwise it was flawless.
It's on purpose to make you worry more.
Actually the other cars were faster
He opened the door to let the robbers in at 3:27 and stops the car in the parking at 8:27 ... perfect 5 minute time frame , and great attention to details here...
I always interpreted it as he will wait in the car while they "do the deed" for exactly 5 mintues without bailing on them. That's why he set his watch the moment they cut the chain.
Great movie and one of the best opening scenes.
This is one of my all-time favorite movies. What an incredibly visceral and yet strangely dream-like thriller.
I’m right there with you
The fact I drive a Chevy Impala makes me smile
He drove the car because it was common
I love the Impala though are the engine sounds Accurate? I always thought he had a souped up Impala for the Heist
@@ameyajoshi742 He did, Cranston's character said he dropped in '300 hp on the inside, she is gonna fly'. Didn't say what exactly he put in but suffice to say I don't think the 2009 Impala has 300 hp stock.
@@damendred1 its the SS model, used to have a v8
One of the greatest openings in film, phenomenal cast, storyline, and soundtrack, a film at first you think is like all the others in its genre, but as you reach its end, you truly realize how great it is 👏
I remember seeing this film for the first time. I thought it might just be a contender to knock off HEAT as my all time favourite film. It didn't, but man did i enjoy it. Fantastic film. Love the soundtrack and score, too.
Love this movie
Bryan cranston is a hidden gem in this
No he isn't, he's good but there's nothing noteworthy of him here.
@@flybeep1661you could even say he’s… plain Jane.
Fk man you nailed it. He's BEAUTIFUL. incremental deliverary
He's trying too hard.
@@markomaras6495 I dunno - the character is a talker in a movie where the rest of the characters keep talk to the minimum. He will always seem out of step with the others. Maybe that is the point.
Wish the whole film was like this
He guns it @5:42 with corresponding engine sounds, but the cars in front remain the same distance away
Those cars are over 100 mph
Yeah that annoyed me as well
I wonder if he could've bluffed by just normally continuing cruising. Sudden acceleration just drew the choppers attention.
@@tamasser listen to the walkie talkie. he doesn't accelerate until after he hears the helicopter confirm a sighting
Great part I’ve always loved about this is how he gets in the cops way at the end. He makes sure he’s seen leaving the stadium under his guise and gives the robbers more of a margin to get away from the impala. As far as believable effective criminals go, this guy takes the cake. Meticulous and opportunistic.
I've always considered Ryan Gosling to be on the cooler end of actors, based on their roles that they chose.
I used to have this on my RUclips playlist.
Thank you, sir.

I bet that film was fun to make for those guys.
Damn, the pigs knew it was a silver Impala in under 10 seconds with zero eyes on the scene - somebody sold Driver out!
There are always eyes on the scene. People you cant see walking, living, jogging, homeless dudes around. In a city you are never really alone. Plus cctv cameras literally everywhere and local security guards having night shift walking around etc etc.
If homeboy didn't take so long getting out

Masterpiece in every way !
one of the best scenes in cinema history!
I give you five star ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ great movie 🍿 I love to see it again
he forgot his really expensive watch
Thanks for not ruining this by putting a watermark on it
great opening scene except for the birdge where he floors it and the two cars ahead of him either just stay the same speed or also think the helicopter is chasing them and book it at the same time lol, since it's LA probably the latter
This is literally my Grandma
With the watch and the police scanner and the Clippers hat? Nice. Please tell me she has the satin scorpion jacket too.
No but when naked she actually looks like a real human Bean

I’ve showed this. Movie to a few people , I think it’s a masterpiece ! Only people who didn’t like it were the Fast & Furious meatheads ! It just not that kind of movie & I am so grateful !
Nicolas Winding Refn is an amazing director. Danish.
Amazing movie 😍
i believe the song in the scene was used in an Alfa Romeo Gulia AD. Song name is chromatic-tick of the clock
Great soundtrack

The drive soundtrack
I'd seen the film before, but only on re-watching this scene did i realize he was listening to the ball game on the radio in order to time his arrival at the stadium parking lot.
great movie
Perfect
There's a hundred thousand streets in the city. You don't need to know the route. Now, you give me a time and a place. I give you a five-minute window,
anything happens in that five minutes and I'm yours.
No matter what.
Anything happens a minute in either side of that, you are on your own.
Do you understand?
Yes, I understand. Can you take me to Disneyland?

All these "literally me" ahh comments 😂 but are you even a scorpio like him and me?...cuz i am scorpio like ryan gosling...gives that jacket he wears in the movie a whole different meaning.
3:35 - that eyesight in the rearview mirror
I always consider Ryan Gosling in the same league as Clint Eastward, Jason Strathon and Charles Bronson, no talky bullshit just gets on with it. Hugh Jackman's performance as The Wolverine was same too.
He is not in that league at all. Screams like a woman.
he has debt way beyond the mentioned guys, except for Clint.
Clint Eastward? Jason Strathon? Don't you mean Charles Bunson and Hugh Jerkman?
He’s our generations Steve McQueen !
Soundtrack in this film is mega
Yup !
I blame this movie soundtrack for reviving 80s music style resulting in stuff like "Blinding Lights"
It kind of is. Thisovie is what started the whole synthwave boom, although back then I think people called it vaporwave
@@DruguzuYou're close, vaporwave is brighter and 'warmer', where as this one has a darker tone and more mystic. Such works such as from kavinsky is 'outrun' based on the 80s outrun game

Always wondered whats in that duffel bag at the very beggining
This scene reminds me of the night car chase scene from The Driver 1978

The problem is cameras. All the cops have to do is trace the videos backwards.
Slick...
"Nobody will be looking at you!"

The. Perfect movie! How gorgeous in every way!
Yes !
This film was tragically underrated.
In what way? 93% on Rotten Tomatoes. Made over $81 million against a production budget of $15 million. At Cannes Film Festival it won Best Director, one of the highest honors a director can reach. Several critics listed Drive as one of the best films of 2011, including the National Board of Review.
It was not understood by audiences. Bad general audience marketing. Still one of the better films ever made.
So... they barely left the crimescene and they already know what kind of possible vehicle !?..
That's some serious policework.

Whats with the frame rate, or is this on my end?
Most major films use 30 frames per second
24 FPS, and that's usually cinematic movie standard. TV shows are often 25/30 FPS broadcast standard.

Since the cops are everywhere on the scene they'll find the car so :
- What about the 2 goddamn thieves in the back of the car?
- What about his watch that can easily link to him?
No sense
One of my all time favourite movies.....this is what GONE IN 60 SECONDS should have been
What I mean is dark, gritty, exciting and intense
So he leaves the thieves in the car with the stolen goods and police at the entrance. Hardly getting them to safety is it?
five minutes was up ma bro
They had been wearing masks. So who were the cops to look for?
He asked for 5 min window and drove for 4:30 minutes from the moment second thief gets in the car….that is great movie making
Lol cmon it’s a fkn movie guy…. The stupid shit is him timing the window around the Clippers game in the fourth quarter, where most your time outs and fouls are made… that would make that five minutes ending of that game. If you know basketball can turn into 13 minutes with commercials timeout fouls foul shot that’s just totally pretty much you could try that 200 times I’m just saying pulling in the lot I meant to say in finding a spot in the front, just do the same route. He took and stop under the bridge for the same amount of time I’m just saying you’re not gonna get it when the games going for 321 when he loudens the music in the car… you hear the status of the game?.. you got a better chance of getting your leg bit off by a shark sitting on your couch watching this fucking movie how’s that for odds…
Wasn't the 5 minute window the time he was to wait for the guys to come out? He starts his timer the second before the alarm goes off.
Mr White sorts his car out and offers him some of the younger siblings of methaphetamine 😂

Nobody would hire a guy who only works 5 minutes and dumps you at a ball game.
Did you know it's a movie?
He's cool as hell for sure but why would anyone hire a guy that straight up works for 5 minutes only then screws you over?? 😂😂
In LA is legal to helicopter fly above cars and lighten them up like on this bridge? Fuck me.
A police helicopter looking for suspects, yes. Not just in LA, anywhere. At least here in the states.
@@trent617tw Its bad, and if comes out that suspect is innocent?
@SuperSedans Then they'd be innocent I guess. Not sure I understand. They're just an eye in the sky helping units on the ground. They're actually pretty useful. If you're referring to the search lights they use they don't cause accidents on the ground or anything.
Video is lagging in all possible resolutions?..
lilterally me
Michael Mann vibes and really good but just not as good as it presents... for example look at the scene on the bridge with the helicopter, he hits the gas but ?so does everyone else? because it's the same two cars equally far ahead of him across the whole bridge... Michael Mann would never let something that big go if you look at a film like Heat for example
