  • @jedirobertkenobi3281
    @jedirobertkenobi3281 5 месяцев назад +47

I swear I really believe this is one of the best opening scenes of a movie I have ever seen. It introduces all we need to know about the main character, and his one main accomplice, while totally ignoring almost anything but the most essential details of the other characters that are in the scene. The thieves are not important, and so this introduction only allows them about two words of dialogue ("Come on!"), despite them being ostensibly what is driving the whole first scene of this movie. We don't care about them and the writer does such a good job of making them important while also utterly meaningless, that we don't even see if they got caught coming out of the car park at the end (although they probably didn't, since it was a brilliant trick). This "first reel" of the movie Drive strips down everything that happens to the bare essentials and throws out every unimportant detail that isn't almost entirely needed to understand what is happening. In doing this, it mimics the main character's personality, which is very bottomlining. It focuses you in on the few sentences that are said and their significance, and meanwhile it brilliantly steps up the tension minute by minute. Everything is visual and nothing is without intense connection to the main plot. Even as he walks away from the car at the end, he does a little dance on the edge of the curb and the sidewalk (making it look accidental) intentionally to slow down a cop that is headed into the car park, and he also turns and eyes a girl going by to take suspicion away from him (and to not show his face to the cop). Every movement is slick and calculated, and yet perfectly seamless in terms of taking suspicion away from him and evading the cops.
This all leads the audience to have the feeling that he might have been TOO slick. How did he even know how to do that?! However, we were already introduced cleverly to his accomplice who, as they scan over an auto shop filled with beautiful classic cars, explains that he will be driving the most common car in California. This means we can suspect that he really has some well-developed backing that makes it believable he might have this level of skill in driving. Then we see he is a stunt driver in just the next section of the movie after the intro, so we know he has been trained in how to drive to a level that is well-beyond the average person. When the girl asks him what he does for work, he can just say, "I drive," and leave it at that, because we already know that he is far from just a chauffeur. So much of this movie intro is so well-balanced I am amazed at its brilliance. It can take an audience who could be anywhere in the world, unaware of anything about this movie that might interest them, and it takes them on a ride from wondering who this guy is in the hotel room, to knowing he is in Los Angeles, California, driving criminals for money, and he is damn good at it. The rapidity with which this movie accomplishes this goal is record breaking. The director drives this movie almost as fast as his main character drives a late mode silver Impala.

He’s saying they’ll have 5 minutes to complete the job on their end before he flees the scene. I’m also pretty sure he has told the thieves of the plan to dump the car at the Staples center. The only thing they don’t know is route he will take to get there. Lastly, I don’t agree with the people who are assuming the thieves will get caught leaving the game. After a basketball game there are so many people streaming out at the same time that logistically it would be very hard, especially since the cops never got a visual on any of them

He specifically told them how much time they had and his intentions. He performed the job impeccably and even got out without drawing attention to him or the curators of the "job".
In my opinion, he did everything perfectly. They can easily walk out with masks off and blend into the crowds of people leaving the game.
It's honestly an impressive way to portray such a character.

There's a hundred thousand streets in the city. You don't need to know the route. Now, you give me a time and a place. I give you a five-minute window,
anything happens in that five minutes and I'm yours.
    No matter what.
Anything happens a minute in either side of that, you are on your own.

A remarkable film in so many ways. When Gosling signed on for the leading role, the producers gave him the right to choose the director, and he chose Danish filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn. The screenplay came from Iranian-born British writer Hossein Amini. Gosling and Refn, along with other principal cast, all moved into the same house together during the shoot. The film earned over $81 million against a small (by Hollywood standards) production budget of $15 million.

Lol cmon it’s a fkn movie guy…. The stupid shit is him timing the window around the Clippers game in the fourth quarter, where most your time outs and fouls are made… that would make that five minutes ending of that game. If you know basketball can turn into 13 minutes with commercials timeout fouls foul shot that’s just totally pretty much you could try that 200 times I’m just saying pulling in the lot I meant to say in finding a spot in the front, just do the same route. He took and stop under the bridge for the same amount of time I’m just saying you’re not gonna get it when the games going for 321 when he loudens the music in the car… you hear the status of the game?.. you got a better chance of getting your leg bit off by a shark sitting on your couch watching this fucking movie how’s that for odds…

This is me. Literally me. No other character can
come close to relating to me like this. There is no
way you can convince me this is not me. This
character could not possibly be anymore me. lt's
me, and nobody can convince me otherwise. If
anyone approached me on the topic of this not
possibly being me, then 1 immediately shut them
down with overwhelming evidence that this
character is me. This character is me, it is
indisputable. Why anyone would try to argue that
this character is not me is beyond me. If you held
two pictures of me and this character side by
side, you'd see no difference. I can safely look at
this character every day and say "Yup, that's me". I
can practically see this character every time I look
at myself in the mirror. I go outside and people
stop me to comment how similar I look and act to
this character. I chuckle softly as I'm assured
everyday this character is me in every way. I can
smile each time I get out of bed every morning
knowing that l've found my identity with this
character and I know my place in this world. It's
really quite funny how similar this character is to
me, it's almost like we're identical twins. When I
first saw this character, I had an existential crisis
What if this character was the real me and I was
the fictional being. What if this character actual
became aware of my existence? Did this
character have the ability to become self aware
    itself?

Everyone criticizes the parking spot. According to director Nicolas winding Refn… Ryan legit drove him around Los Angeles because he doesn’t have a drivers license and the clippers are a know team… especially in 2011. They actually Parked there multiple times. The clippers at the time where a no goof ball team, same with the Orlando lighting hockey team. Dude no one cared about the clippers. This was do verified by an ex gang member known as “Bone” who was in the training day movie and and of watch among others.
