Have you put the key in the ignition to turn it to line up the hole? If you can't get that hole to line up, I have no idea how you would get that tumbler out. I would guess, you have bigger problems inside the steering column if that is the case.
I guess I'm confused. I put a new tumbler in it. It took over 20 years for it to get to that point. that truck doesn't have another 20 years. That being said, it's highly unlikely it would ever happen again.
No, the grease should have no affect for how the tumbler goes in. When you slide the tumbler in, make sure the pin hole is towards the top. Mine popped right in.
Mine wouldn't start ,I replaced the starter ignition switch right under the steering wheel ,worked for about 2 days now its doing the same thing not starting
This video is strictly for the tumbler. I would say that you probably have something else going on besides your ignition switch. But without being there and diagnosing it, I can't offer you much advice.
It's been so long ago, I don't even remember. All I can tell you is that I do remember that I paid about $80 for the ignition and door tumblers. It came as a kit. I got it on ebay.
Nice view of video I seen others but two were really scary the way they did it I wouldn't use their info I have to replace mine due to some fucking thief that stole it an took my catalytic converters and other parts good luck everyone do what u cam to protect your vehicles thieves are going for Prius n trucks any kind??????
Does the tumbler match the one you took out? Are you using the right key? There isn’t to much to it. You slide the old one out and slide the new one in. Did the new tumbler lock into place?
This is definitely 1 of the better videos for changing out the ignition case houseing or whatever it's called...
Some POS stole my Tahoe and destroyed the steering colum. Hopefully only changing this will be all I need. Thank you for the video!
Does yours get stuck on position now gotta manualy move back
Hey king nice video this helps my man out a lot thank you for sharing

Is this also called the ignition switch cylinder?
great video but quick question what do i do if i can’t line up the notch/line on the tumbler to the hole in order to release it out?

@@GroundhogzGarage i appreciate that!
This isn’t the ignition switch it’s just the lock cylinder.
Did u have to program that or now because someone told me I have to
I did not. The key did not have a chip in it. My 2005 Tahoe key does not have a chip in it either.
Good video !!
Whats to keep it from doing it again? A new tumbler?

How many of you have taken a pair of pliers to turn the ignition key because it wouldn't turn?
With the grease is that what made the difference when getting it to slide in? I’m having issues with the cylinder sliding in all the way .

Does the GMC Yukon Denali have the code BS in an 01? Anyone know? Or plug and play like this??
If the key you get doesn't have the little IC on it, you don't need to have anything programmed.

I cannot get the ignition to turn for the wheel now to unlock to start the truck 2000 Chevy Tahoe
What type of grease did you use around the outside of the tumbler?
Just some synthetic bearing grease. Not much.
Could the tumble cause the truck not to start even though it turns?
No. The tumbler is all mechanical and has no electronics in it. It does turn the electronic ignition switch, which could be your problem.
Yes!
Switch mine but doesn’t stay on, turns on then die right away
Was that a ac delco ignition cylinder?

Did the new one come with new keys ?
Yes it did.
Might want to drill a small access hole on top of column so if this happens again I don’t have to disassemble the whole steering column.
Hey I switched the key cylinder part but truck still won’t crank. What can be the problem?
@@juliovelazquez5949 The ignition switch... would be my guess
I can't get the Cyilinder back in
Can you get the original one back in?
What does it mean if the old one won’t go back in?
@@rushtojudah7384 That something isn’t lined up right.
Put the key in to finish putting it back in
