    Once I tried your outstanding hack I went to my neighborhood O’Reilly’s. They tested my battery, alternator and starter all which tested fine. The guy who worked there said it was probably the starter relay and suggested I also should purchase the ignition relay since they usually fail together. I told him I swapped them out and my truck still didn’t work. He said the ignition relay was started to fail. I purchased two for a little over $33.00. It was definitely cheaper than a starter or alternator and much easier to install.

    I have a tip. On Chevy Silverados after you have been driving on snow covered roads on your way to work during the winter. After you get off work the starter won't crank. What happens is the drain hole in the starter housing gets snow and water packed up there into the starter gears. It then freezes and won't let the starter turn over. You need to go under the pickup with a little benzomatic propane torch and warm up the starter to melt the ice. After that I put a dab of door and window caulking over that hole and have had no issues with my pickup starting for the last 4 years now.

I pulled the Park LP and Starter relay, flipped them and it started right up. My cluster lights weren’t turning on either and now they are. My cluster lights would work intermittently. Had the exact same issue after changing my knock sensors. Truck died while driving and left me stranded, huge tow bill home, not to mention the wait! ...And I digress...
    Anyhow, finally bought schematics and found that ground G103, at the back of the intake manifold behind the plenum, had broken inside the wire jacket. Gave it a tug and broke right off.
    Simple crimp eyelet was the fix.
    G103 supplies ground to the PCM, as well as the O2 sensor heater grounds.
    Stupid electricity.

    • @guitarguy3221
      @guitarguy3221 2 года назад

      I found the 5.3 harness has 4 ground wires on it. Will any one of those prevent the truck from starting or just the big flat wire ground on the back of the block?

    • @nickcoleman1073
      @nickcoleman1073 2 года назад +1

      Without any or all of those grounds, random things will not work. Could be a no start, could be poor performance.
      The big ground strap you're referring to is part of the grounding system (which ties the engine block to the frame to complete the grounding process) but the others will hinder the flow of electricity so as not to let things work (I.e. starter or PCM).
      My bad ground was on passenger side back corner of engine, coming from main harness to the intake manifold.
      If you were able to find somewhere that showed you the harness has 4 grounds, you can now search the locations of those grounds to help you find which is broken.

      Nope, that would be a positive signal wire coming from the starter relay.
      Start with a continuity check of that wire between the relay and the starter.
      Could just be broken.
      Could also be a bad connection at the back of your underhood fuse box, very common issue.

    WORKED!!! Thank you so much for this tip!
    2015 Silverado was clicking but no crank. Checked fuses and grounds, no luck.
    Used a speaker wire (probably 18 AWG) and hooked it up to the relay terminal "86". I tuned key to "ON" position and tapped to the POSITIVE terminal as in the video.
    At first, I could hear the solenoid clink, but no crank. It did this on the first 3 taps, then on the 4th started cranking! I pulled the jumper and put the relay back in and cranked it and started right up! I have since turned it off and started it 3 times, NO issues!
    I think what happened was...I went down a HORRIBLE pot-holed road like miles long. When I turned it off after that, It would not crank. I think all of the jostling and way it acted when jumping, then worked, it dis-aligned the starter to engine, so was locked up and system detected key in run position, but no crank and pulling current, so would not allow it to start. Once the dis-alignment of gears and lock up was cleared, no issues!!
    I can't thank you so much. It took 60 second and 5' of speaker cable for $1 to get it working again after being down a week or two!!

    I wanted to give my positive feedback. I have a truck with 225,000 miles, never had any issue a day and it’s life. It left me stranded in one night at midnight, and it would only click. I put a brand new battery in it that month and I knew that it wasn’t the battery. I knew it wasn’t the connections. After messing with the truck a while I eventually got it started and got it home. But then same thing just click click. After watching your video and switching around the relays a number of times, I decided to cross the relay and send 12 V power direct to the starter. It worked, I didn’t let the engine actually fire and start. I put the relay back in and use the key to start the truck. Oddly, the truck seems better than it did before I had the issue. My issue was an only just the click click, when I would turn the key on accessory the power started flickering on and off like the battery was being disconnected and reconnected really fast, but I knew there wasn’t a loose connection. Somehow crossing the relay in this fashion fixed something. And it fixed something else inside the truck. Even the doorbell dinger noise seems a little more loud and clear. It’s all very weird, and I wish I knew what the actual problem was, but I’m glad a little piece of wire can fix the issue enough to get it home.

So on wait for the light to go off, turn the key back for a second and then turn the truck over. It's work everytime so far. The only time it doesn't work is when i try to turn over too fast without waiting at least a second or bit.

Just push it in so it makes contact. I just got jumped that way but there was a guy under the truck also giving the starter a tap.
