This is the second recipe I tried of yours. Your oxtail recipe I made by following your easy steps came out so good I am comfortable making it more often! I have made rice and peas before it was always missing something and wouldn’t taste right. I followed this recipe and it came out amazing! The layering of flavors you mention in most of videos is definitely the key. Thank you so much!!
Divinely Intuitive oh goodness! You’re welcome 🤗. You’ve made my day...no, more than my day - you’ve made my entire weekend!! 😄 ❤️🙏 I’m so happy those recipes worked so well for you and I am so also thankful you came back to give your lovely feedback. Bless up every time Ms. Divinely.
Washing rice is a Caribbean (Jamaican, Trinidad & Tabago, Barbadoes and Guyana ..etc) thing - it washes out the excess starch and also since rice are sprayed with pesticides and herbicides - washing it helps to remove it.. also any dust accumilate on the rice grain during processing or drying are removed. (my 2 cents)
My family loves this! I discovered last month and I love to pair when I cook Escovitch King Fish and Curry Goat! I cooked this tonight with Curry Goat and Mixed Veggies Yummmmyyyyy!
I'm glad I grew up in Birmingham, Jamaican food was introduced to me at a very young age and Jamaican rice and peas (with slow cooked Jamaican spiced chicken) was my favourite meal
Wow, quick and easy is right! Don't forget delicious too. This my go to rice n peas recipe now. The entire rice washing was not really necessary. . ., but hey that's what fast forward is for 😜
I’m trying your curried goat and this rice today instead of our traditional English Sunday roast, I’m all prep’d up and ready to go, liked and subscribed, many thanks
FAST n EZ two of my Favorite !! w-o-r-d-s-s-s-s.. along side with Free and Sale LOL I learned something new Roxy... Coconut Powder for cooking...and I Luved the Lil Coconut shell you used as a measuring gadget Heee-heee (Thumbs- UP) :o) and again... I will use my Instant Pot...It makes PERFECT Rice tooo. Thank-U Roxy for Sharing ~VH~
dwl, I love your feedback! yuh full ah nuff vibes :) Please check the description box for the measurements. For the coconut milk powder you can go up to using 1 (50g) pk. Hope you enjoy it.
I’m definitely gonna try this. This looks so easy but what kind of rice cooker do you have ? Do you have the ones that you have the option to press brown or white rice. Usually when I make rice once you cover it you leave it until the timer goes off but I notice you stir it in between. Please let me know. I’ve never done rice and peas in my rice cooker only white or parboiled but this is a quicker way to make rice and peas. Thanks so much for sharing
Hiyas, did you adjust your water based on the additional ingredients you added or did you stick to the rice cookers recommendation for the amount of rice used?
I'm going to start cooking my rice and peas ina rice cooker. Thanks darling for the recipe I will comment soon with an update! My only tweak is I must put the foil on in the beginning or my dead granny will come fi me 😊.
OhhLaLa! I have been looking for a good recipe! I can't eat meat because of health issues and I want rice and beans with flavor! If I use coconut milk what is the ratio of that and water. I have never used powder.
Hi Salina! Thanks for checking out my Jamaican rice & peas recipe. You will surely get a flavourful meatless meal with this dish 🤗. I highly recommend using coconut milk powder for my rice and peas (rice cooker) recipe. Use 1 to 1 & 1/2 tablespoons coconut milk powder per cup of water. With that ratio the rice is cooked light and fluffy with a lovely coconut flavour. Hope this helps. Please let me how it turns out and ‘Happy Cooking!’ 🎉
question though, what's the benefit of using a rice cooker if the recipe still needs so much attention during cooking? I'm just wondering why I should get a rice cooker if I am already doing that whole process in a pot on the stove top.... I really just don't need another pointless appliance in my kitchen! Is the final result any better using the cooker in other words? (I used to have one which I would only use to do plain rice, where I would only set it and ignore it basically until it beeps) I gave it away cuz I'm not such a fan of plain rice....and didn't use it often enough to justify having it just sit there....
I know this is late but I really recommend a rice cooker the texture of the rice is so much better with it. Mine was $30 for a small one they get a lot more expensive but my $30 one works great and makes delicious rice with perfect texture
@dragons8822 We call these peas, hence the name Rice and Peas. If you tell a Jamaican you’re cooking rice and pease for them and you serve up rice with green beans, prepare to get cussed. 😂
I followed this recipe and it came out perfect 😊. I could hug 🤗 you. Thank you, so much‼️

i cannot find coconut milk powder anywhere!! can i just do cocunt milk?
Yes
I usually add a little browning in my rice and peas.
No Jamaican cooks like this
Wish method was clearer. Captions on top of captiond. Geez.and it looked easy

Never ever saw a Jamaican put all those things in their rice and peas before
Curious. How have these ‘Jamaicans’ you know make rice and peas? 🤔
Appicate you
Is rice and beam
Beam? Lol Jamaicans call beans peas.
Why my rice and peas keep coming out sticky??? 😔😔😔
Wash it real good
Mine too and it's washed good
£49.21 for a Can Opener! Do me a favour!!!
No real Jamaican uses all that power in rice n peas
Be quiet
2 minutes washing rice lol
Not authentic and too white ,2tins peas would be ok and who crush peas for colour a little browning would give it more colour.
So slow…….
These are beans Not pea's as you keep saying, pea's are green. When i try this recipe i'll be using green pea's not kidney beans.
That is what Jamaicans call it, I'm sure they know those are kidney beans.

Looks dead
