Made this last night for my boyfriend’s birthday dinner along with oxtail, jerk wings, pasta salad and plantain. Best recipe hands down I can never cook rice properly it always comes out mushy/sticky but following this recipe step by step it came out perfectly! 😊 Thanks Jody❣️❣️
Just made this in a rice cooker as a tester for when I have a go at a chicken brown stew next week. I ended up eating half of it in one sitting! That's the most more-ish rice I've ever tasted!
Hi Jody! Im so glad I came across this video for a quick way to make rice and peas! Im from Congo and this is one of my favorite ways to have rice! ❤ Thank you again
This is a great recipe that I tried today and it came out pretty well. The best advice in this recipe is to not have too much liquid over the rice, which you can apply to any ratio you use. I'll remove even more liquid the next time to make it perfect!
I should’ve watched this 1st before I made my rice & peas before I made it 🤦🏾♀️ I had fire too high & bottom of pot burnt but rice tastes good & well seasoned at least so thanks & I’ll use scotch bonnet pepper next time too 👍🏾
I made it for the first time and I just kept it on low. I checked on it frequently and tasted a grain to see if it was hard or not every check up. And I also gently flipped the rice slowly
i’m also confused on the measurements for the seasoning. Because I don’t taste any of the seasoning it tasted very bland to what I’m used to. So I’m trying to understand is it more than 1 teaspoon? when I put the seasonings in the bowl like yours, it doesn’t seem as much as what you have.
Hi please can you answer my question, When you put tinfoil on the rice do you then turn the heat off and leave it for another 15 minutes ? Only part I don’t get
Trying to clear out the cabinets because we might be moving so I came up with variation and it was awesome. I mixed this recipe up a bit because my gf and I like it hot: Both my gf and I love cooking so we have an entire cabinet dedicated to various spice and several of our own blends. Didn't even think of using the pressure cooker. 3 cans red kidney beans I used: 1 Can dark red kidney beans 1 Can Garbonzo beans 1 Can chick peas 1 Can corn 1 Can golden mushrooms 3 1/2 cup Basmati rice 2 stalk scallions I used a small red onion, chopped 3 cloves garlic 1 tsp pimento seed didnt have any so none 1/2 tsp fresh ginger couldnt find any so none 1 whole scotch bonnets Pepper mixture of pepperoncini and jalapenos (lots) 1 tbsp fresh thyme 1 tbsp unsalted butter 1 can coconut milk I very much dislike coconut so I just used whole milk 1 tsp All Purpose Season Hefty dose of creole seasoning and 'slap ya momma' 1/2 tsp salt I added more to taste 1/2 black pepper I added more like a TBS I also added white and cayenne pepper 1/2 tsp garlic powder 2 1/2 cup water I used ham broth instead made from the last bone-in I made
Side note for myself for the first time using the canned beans I’ll do 15 min one tin and the second tin will be 10 min only so 5 min after the first , then rice to soak in the beans nicely n let cook even an extra 2 min where need be
I think your adding too much water to your pot, the liquid shouldn’t be too much above the rice! One I will try and do another video an go in more detail ok,stay tuned❤️🙏🏾

Does the all purpose seasoning have salt?
thank you sis this is so yum!
Your welcome thanks for watching❤
My question is did u turn the stove off when u added the foil?
Do you geep the heat on low when you add foil and steam.
Yes most definitely I did, it’s important you cook it on a low heat otherwise it will burn quickly👌🏾
What temperature you place the stove once you notice your rice still hard with the foil cover and how long?
That’s what I wanted to know too
I made it for the first time and I just kept it on low. I checked on it frequently and tasted a grain to see if it was hard or not every check up. And I also gently flipped the rice slowly
Always cook rice on low or simmer after your ingredients come to a boil
Question what IS inside the all purpose seasoning?how much Rice?
Hey how long do you soak your canned beans for before cooking
So you add two cups of water and the can of coconut milk ? Also you didn’t drain the bean right ?
Seems like WAY Too Much Liquid, huh?!?
Lol
Just saw your comment, I add the liquid from the canned also with the peas yes, if the liquid is too much you can always remove a little bit
@@michaelneil1747 no it wasn’t, normally if the liquid it soo much I just remove a little from the pot 😚
Hello. Can i use long grain rice for same results?
i’m also confused on the measurements for the seasoning. Because I don’t taste any of the seasoning it tasted very bland to what I’m used to. So I’m trying to understand is it more than 1 teaspoon? when I put the seasonings in the bowl like yours, it doesn’t seem as much as what you have.

Do the whole clove garlic dissolve or would it stay whole?
Hi Jody. I notice you didn’t drain your Can Red Beans, Is it necessary not to drain . Love your original much better. It’s saved in my recipes
Don’t drain because it gives the rice it’s color
If i just use 1 can is it still the same measurements
Thank you
Your welcome 💕
Hi please can you answer my question,
When you put tinfoil on the rice do you then turn the heat off and leave it for another 15 minutes ?
Only part I don’t get
No, do not turn off the stove. Keep on low/simmer setting until cooked.

I mixed this recipe up a bit because my gf and I like it hot: Both my gf and I love cooking so we have an entire cabinet dedicated to various spice and several of our own blends. 3 cans red kidney beans
I used:
1 Can dark red kidney beans
1 Can Garbonzo beans
1 Can chick peas
1 Can corn
1 Can golden mushrooms
3 1/2 cup Basmati rice
2 stalk scallions
I used a small red onion, chopped
3 cloves garlic
1 tsp pimento seed
didnt have any so none
1/2 tsp fresh ginger
couldnt find any so none
1 whole scotch bonnets Pepper
mixture of pepperoncini and jalapenos (lots)
1 tbsp fresh thyme
1 tbsp unsalted butter
1 can coconut milk
I very much dislike coconut so I just used whole milk
1 tsp All Purpose Season
Hefty dose of creole seasoning and 'slap ya momma'
1/2 tsp salt
I added more to taste
1/2 black pepper
I added more like a TBS
I also added white and cayenne pepper
1/2 tsp garlic powder
2 1/2 cup water
I used ham broth instead made from the last bone-in I made
🔥🔥🔥
Hi does it come out too spicy with the scoth bonnet ?
No it's not too spicy at all because you leave the pepper whole
I’ve never made this before but does the pepper make the dish too spicy for kids ? If you can say ??
Was the heat still on with the foil?
Yes it was still steaming👌🏾
Teaspoon ?! Measurements dem off mi g 😂
Hi, what is the bean juice, water & rice ratio? So with your 3 1/2 cups of rice how much water should I add? I'll be using 2 cans of kidney beans..
Also, do I have to use coconut milk to make this dish?? I have whole milk & whipping cream?
How was it without coconut milk?
@@thebanwos5685 delicious. I've made it twice already & I only used coconut milk.
How much of the Caned coconut milk did you use? Didn’t look like you put the whole thing in. Thanks
I used 1 can🤗

Is it suppose to taste sweet? Mine tasted sweet
No it shouldn’t taste sweet not at all, why isit sweet?
Sounds like you used sweetened coconut milk. Make sure your can says “unsweetened”.

Rice and beans not peas
It’s rice and peas… peas is a cultural thing
@@banjiannie2880 rice and beans. It’s not a cultural thing. It says beans right on the can.

No! Can beans and peas is blasphemy! Lol
I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong but I cannot make rice at all idk if I did too much water or what but it came out sticky and stuck to the pot
