Tip no. "1 and a half" ...remember to thoroughly wash your hands immediately after handling that scotch bonnet pepper.... don't want to inadvertently touch your eyes or face with that on your hands 🤤
Great video... thanks for sharing!!😊😁😊

Looks great gotta try this. I just made oxtail last night
Now cooking this thanks chef!
You got it for the most part well 👍 done I'm a Jamaican so I can tell you
HiChrvideo as usual! I usually tie a few sprigs of fresh time together with cooking twine. That way I can fish all of them out at the end without hunting through the rice.
Donna Brice great idea
Chris, that's the same way all my Trini family members cooks rice & peas/peas & rice. We always wash dry beans, then soak it overnight & will use that same water, we never threw it away. Chris just love how your recipes are not complicated. Thanks
Wx
looks awesome!!!😊👍
i. love. chris. cooking.
Awesome I'm doing this with oxtail tonight! !!
well well I like your style, I have never commented on you tube, and to say I gonna follow your other menus, talented cook
New watching your video. Thank you for washing your rice. We from South America and the Caribbean know washing removed any rocks or other grains.🙏❤️
Also removes the extra starch that makes it gooey.
OK I'll try that one day for sure.
love rice and peas alot
much love ... i recently got a rice cooker ... you got a video or tips on using that for rice and peas with BROWN rice and canned beans???? bless up

Hey Chris, great tips
I tried this recipe and it was deliciously. One question though, the next day the beans were quite starchy and the rice as well- what did i do wrong? I even turned the heat off while it was still a bit moist in the pot
Help!
This is definitely a Trini take on Jamaican rice and peas, I have never seen a Jamaican cook it that way so your version isn’t the normal version that I know but maybe some make it like this especially the Jamaicans that live outside of the island, but this is definitely not the way most of us make it in Jamaica the end result looked like it and I am sure you enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing this take on it.
I used this technique and used Jasmine rice and chicken broth. Yummy! Thank u for the tips
THAT Music is as good as the food Bro
Love them all Good Job!!
Thanks for the tips, Chris.
Interesting to twist to making rice and peas. I prefer home made coconut milk. My mother uses home made coconut milk. I will try it your way and I can smell the flavours coming through the screen. 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
One Love!
I've been wondering how to do a dish like this I wanted to do a combination Fusion of jambalaya and Jamaican rice with chicken sausage I was just curious if you can come up with a recipe for that
AND the 6th ..... the crispy fried onions at the end!! Cheers 🍻🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
What's up Chris!! Great video! 👍🏼😃

Them children silly, and complements Mr. Chris, lol... So cool to be a famaley!!!
Chris got the ladies on the video. Less gooooo
Thanks so much!
THANK YOU!!!!! I followed your steps (except for the fresh coconut milk and i had to substitute scotch bonnet with jalapeno) and my rice came out very good especially for the first time.
Making this again tonight 😁. You can also try substituting the scotch bonnet pepper with a habanero pepper, works just as well👌🏾❣️
How much water and rice did y'all use? I understand that carribeans don't measure (my grandmother's family is from the islands so my mom was always like that as well), but I like to measure because when I don't, my food still tastes good, but then I don't remember what I did when I make it again. Any suggestions on the measurements in this video?
Are they your daughters Chris. Toronto for life. Respect. God bless Devi don’t mess. Respect ma maaan.
Hi Chris great video but I have a question with the liquid to rice measurements. I know rice can get very particular when it comes to liquid measurements. It seems as though your eyeballing the rice to liquid measurements so what would u recommend for someone who isnt the best with that?
Oh my gosh that looks so good! My boyfriend is coming home after a long trip and requested oxtail (which I’ve learned to master) but I wanna go out of my way and add rice and peas into the mix! Wish me luck!
GOOD luck
Don't kill him.lol
Looks great sounds great definitely going to try this recipe but the subtitles we're crazy they were putting in words that he wasn't even saying
Hi,l love your cooking. I would like to know what kind of pot that you are using,if don't mind.
Yummy 😋
That look delicious, just like Haitian rice and beans! Only difference is we mostly start off with green seasoning made from the same ingredients & some of us boil the beans in a separate pot and some use the same pot, as done here.
Yea man. 👍🏼👊🏼👊🏼🇹🇹
Hi great restaurant

+Lisa Higdon YESSS I loved that one!
I ended up trying it. It was really good.
lol. hilary
Gonna try this recipe in the rising
Thanks for the tips...gotta put those ingredients in the next batch I've been shorting myself ('cept I'll leave that Scotchie whole, suh!)
Best recipe on RUclips! thanks Chris!
Yum!
Never stir the rice once you put the lid on to cook for a certain period of time as any rice recipe will suggest. The only time to stir the rice is before placing the lid on and when it's done cooking when all the liquid has been absorbed by the rice..... that way it will not be gooey...it will be loose and fluffy. It's temping to want to stir it....but it will be a disaster.
explains my whole life!!! i cant cook rice for nuthing!! I been stirring it and ruining my rice smh
You can stir it, as long as the water is full .once the water starts to evaporate leave it alone.
GEEEEEZE thank YOU! for that .. I made this mistake and lets just say it looked like mash potatoes.
Next we'll cover how so many people mess up mash potatoes =P
Mine tend to start sticking to the bottom of the pan even when theres enough water so it tempts me to stir. Why is it sticking to the bottom? 😔
nice video
Dry Peas, Fresh Coconut milk, brown rice... you're using great ingredients.
Can you also include the measurements of the ingredients and water in the description?
Caribbean ppl don't use measurements love we just know 🤣🤗
@@allisalinor1084 yes we do know 👍
@@allisalinor1084 Yes but he's showing people how to do it so …...…………. its kinda different when you are trying to teach someone no? Or have I missed something.
With my jerk chicken sorted, I will now work on my rice. Thank you sir 😁
Carib pot not sure where U from but I like ur way of cooking the best sound like TNT cooking🙏🤞🏾🤙🏾
Perfect Jamaican rice and peas. The only thing we don’t cut up our scotch bonnets pepper. Like you said we leave it whole. Respect love everything you make.
I like those . They are cute.
Da look prappa nice bai
Chris, what is the pot that you are using?
I have a question, how many cans of coconut milk do you use when making a big pot when I'm using like 4-6 cups of rice? and do I use more spices and herbs? what about the water? do I still use the same amount,as I would for just making regular rice?
I use gungo peas and it’s perfect
in your 1million views on pea&rice where did u buy the knife. u used and Bro keep doing what u .thx u
Thanx for this because mine keep coming out wit a mushy texture instead of fluffy.
maybe your are cooking it too long
try not putting too much fluids, different rice take different amounts of fluid.
Ok Thanx
Cool video thanks. If I use canned beans, if I wash them I will be washing all the sodium and preservatives away won't I?
Most canned foods don't have preservatives as the canning process is used to preserve and you can also get low or no sodium added- and you still want to rinse your beans.
When you use canned peas you can rinse them off or if you don't rinse them all you have to do is
Don't add any salt and it's perfect.
