  • Here is a video I've made of my new Cavalex sound fitted class 56, 56055 in Loadhaul livery.
    It's a mixture of stills and then videos of the locomotive running on my Dad's new layout which is still very much under construction!
    The model in my opinion is stunning, it captures the presence of the 56s beautifully and sounds great. The packaging is great.
    Cavalex really have knocked this one out of the park in my opinion.
    The music is Nimbus · Eveningland from the RUclips audio library.

    This has to be the best sounding Class 56model in OO gauge I have ever heard.

    This Cavalex Model has this famous woom, woom, woom sound from the real Class 56 in it. Best sounding loco i ever heard.

    The Load Haul livery really suits the class 56 ... I`d better start saving the pension for that one ..

    I've always liked the class 56's. I remember seeing them in the late 1970's & early 1980's as they entered service. Would see them on the Didcot bound MGR services taking over from 47's or pairs of 20's.

    Very nice. All that boxing and glossy brochure must add a good £30+ to the price though.

    Not received my Cavalex 56 but is on it way and should be here this week from Rails.
    I have 6 Hornby 56's and would arguably say IMO that it is the best diesel model they produce closely followed by their class 60. Question I have is which is the better model? Sounds like they both have pros and cons. Issue I have with Hornby is the limited liveries . Colas livery is IMO is likely to be a popular one but don't recall Hornby doing one in this livery.

    Got my Colas 56049 with sound today and waiting for my DCR 56091 and yes it is a top notch model up there with Accurascale, the sound of this 56 is absolutely superb.
    Couple of things I don't like as follows;
    1. Cab lights don't switch off after the loco moves off.
    2. Doesn't have all-wheel drive, yes I know there are pro's & con's but all the top manufacturers have all-wheel drive loco's especially with the weight of the loco.
    3. Doesn't have light up dials in the cab like the Accurascale loco's, yes I do like them.
    4. Not a fan of the loco being screwed onto a stand without any protection within the box, loco should have been covered by film at least and not bare under the foam inserts plus unscrewing the loco from the stand will bring accidents if you're not careful.
    5. Sound function sheet should be like Accurascale's printed on card and bigger instead on a small piece of paper.
    Love the model but I wouldn't go as far as it being a game changer as some have said on forums, I think Accurascale still leads the way in that department.
    Cheers Steve.

      Locos screwed to a plinth is nothing new in O gauge. Cav & Alex are almost certainly aware of this & have learned from it.
      Wanting the sound file sheet larger & stiffer is a strange criticism & a matter of opinion. If you want it stiffer, laminate it. Many may want to re-map some functions anyway. I certainly felt the need to do this with my Accurascale 37, so had to print my own customised function sheet.
      Function mapping should enable the cab lights to be turned off, but would it not be prototypical for a second man to turn on a light to check something? This would not be possible if the cab lights were auto off in motion.

      @@TheRip72 No not a fan of the plinth and if you have to put the loco back in the box then you're screwing it back in and if you are constantly doing that for whatever logistical reasons then that's a recipe for disaster with the handling and screwing, Cavalex being different for the sake of being different with the packaging isn't necessary and like I said it doesn't have any protection except for the box length foam insert plus my loco was also angled in the plinth thus it moves around during shipping which can't be good.
      In regards to the sound sheet no not a strange request at all, suppose I am just used to Accurascale's higher quality in that dept. rather than a small piece of paper which I can hardly read without glasses and the coloured orange striping makes it even worse, Cavalex can improve on that going forward or perhaps not...not a deal breaker lol.
      Lastly, we're talking about models here and not having real OO drivers sitting in the cab thus cab lights switching off after movement should have been configured and this where Accurascale get it right IMO, I do have a Loprogrammer thus will be changing this once I figure it out but I am no expert so may have to ask Cavalex for direction in this matter.
      Apart from that, the loco is awesome and have the DCR 56091 coming and also have the DCR Class 60 on order and will get more of those as well, Cav & Alex have done a seriously great job with the Class 56 and hats off to them.

    Not another one, let's just stick with Hornby. This is getting out of hand, no wonder the hobby's going down the pan.

    • @tractorbasher
      @tractorbasher  5 месяцев назад +3

      Hornby's is a nice model but they have only done one Loadhaul livery, 56003 and that was a good few years ago.
      I have 2 Hornby 56s and they are good models but they aren't as good as the Cavalex one, the reed switches in the Cavalex model setting off flange squeal on tight curves is a great step forward.
      I can't agree with your comment about sticking with the brand, brand loyalty gets you nothing. If there aren't new entrants pushing the technology of the hobby, then it stagnates.
