Thanks very much for this! I have just bought the same model which I intend to use on my mates layout. The model really captures the look of the Romanian-built Grids. When I service the model, I will know how to dissemble and reassemble everything now. Gulp! Best wishes from up here on Wirral!
I have a class 60 which appears to be a similar chassis ,with a bogey which has the same pin in chassis connection .I was reluctant to force it out of the chassis but now I have seen this video it appears to be no problem. My pinion drive was squealing but a drop of o8l seems to have fixed it. Cheers thanks for the video
Thanks for sharing this. I’ve just done the same to mine. Until seeing this mine was sat in its box for two years plus. I was just so fed up with it squeaking Under the cap was brown dirty grease. I’ve just used a drop of power lube Now superb quite runner ThanksDan
great video ,glad to see you didnt do away with the fans as a lot of people advise on cutting the drive belt to them stating they put undue load on the motor ,they dont ,9 times out of 10 its the grease in the gear towers that solidifies , they are tricky to get all the lights working too when the body has been removed ,definately one of hornbys better locos , couplings arent the best design fhough ,thanks for sharing ,mick
Thanks Mick could not believe how tight is was just through not being used really impressed with the lights ,a loco that I have been after for a lot of years cheers Kevin
Excellent video Kevin I’m having similar problems with mine squealing at slow speeds so now I can have a go at taking it apart to fix it. Thanks for sharing
Saw you at Warley Kevin , didn’t get chance to say hello you were in buzz didn’t realise it was you ...... nice strip down ...hope it was cheap 😟..regards fred
That was very interesting. I am unlikely to go that deep into a loco. Maybe next time I will give it a try because of this. I'm usually afraid I'll make it worse. Rob
Hi Michael I just used a rag and then used the dapol lubricating oil and made sure everything turned ok the worst bits was the little square bearing that holds the worm drive in place they were solid
Now I know what's wrong with second 56 first one I got replaced under warranty second one is out of warranty and has started squealing same as first one and has very little hours of running not sure I will be able to tackle that job on my own cheers 👍

Thx for the video. My one is doing exactly the same, just a buzzing motor with no movement.
I bought a second hand 56 a few weeks ago and was running rough, turned out to be them square bearings on the worm gear. Great little video.
Thanks by all accounts they are renowned for that problem cheers Kevin
@@kevintregunna they are, i think all hornby diesels atleast suffer from it, but your case with it being gunked up and seized is an extreme example
CazRail OO Gauge luckily not got to many Hornby locos

Thanks Paul it wasn’t to bad once I started I think there are 3 Hornby models that are prone to this problem cheers Kevin

Thanks very much
Thank you for that, I have exactly the same problem

Very helpful tutorial. Have a 56 with same non movement. Do not have the confidence to carry out the works you did.
Hi Kevin, just came across this great video, how did you remove the old grease and clean the parts prior to lubricating?
Michael

Hi Kevin, thank you for your reply.

It wasn’t to bad to do once I got going
Should prove useful to a good few that Kevin
Thanks Dave could not find any videos any where on how to remove the bogies
It looks like you had a result there, Kevin.
Yes a bargain as well
