Glad you obviously appreciated this locomotive - one of my Hornby favourites. I found a 'faulty lighting' one from Hattons, which was easily resolved and is 100% reliable. My preference is to keep the fans operational - look great to me! Each to his / her own. Great presentation and clear, concise video. Thanks for sharing. As I write, I managed to find a blue R3050 reasonably priced and have purchased it - just like yours presented here. Alan.
Alan Toms A great hornby product. Sometimes the fan belt doesn’t effect the running, but in my case it was hindering the performance. Thanks for watching and for getting in touch. Enjoy running your Blue 56! :-) Dave
The blackbird sounds beautiful. More power to the little fella. Sorry if he was a distraction, but we need to enjoy the beautiful things in life! Great video as ever.
Great video and excellent review of a really stunning model. I have a Dapol 56 in Trainload Construction livery and considering when it was made it has some weight to it. The two Hornby 56s i would like are the orange and black Loadhaul livery and Trainload Coal versions. Be well and keep safe, regards Gary.
A beautiful representation of that 80/90s icon. I remember sitting by my local line on the MIDLAND mainline, with a constant stream of 45s, then the highlight would come, a 56 on MGRs, always put a smile on my face. To see your model pulling a fully laden real length train is certainly impressive. Many locos would struggle.
Blackbird, 😬. What a great looking model. UK and European trains are so interesting. Our golden age of trains in the States is long over. I model 30s through 60s, that way I get the best of Steam and Diesel. All the beautiful steam and amazing, powerful streamliners. Thanks for another great video. I love the running sessions.
Great review of one of several British icons thank you Dave. It was also a refreshing sound to hear the blackbird, maybe we should all listen to the birds more in our everyday lives. But anyway good video.
Hi Philip. Thanks for your comment. I enjoy the history side of models and the real loco. It’s all important to the model. Good luck with working through my videos. Try not to fall asleep! Lol. Cheers. Dave
Blackbird version of Tinder :D Classic. Always liked the style of these 47s 50s and 56s, layout's coming along leaps and bounds. Absolutely superb. Oooo, nice detail on front of the Caledonian Express. :)
It has been interesting to revisit this video. You say that the quality of items coming out of that particular factory was good. Class 50, 60, 56 and 43. You are spot on so what has happened now?.
Hi Dave, thanks for your detailed and as always your honest review of this great locomotive. Nice running session of this loco. The appearance of the little bird was an interesting touch. Cheers Greg
I have to agree the 56 is one of Hornbys best. I run mine on MGR hoppers loaded with 10 commandments loads which are really heavy and it has no problem with them. I enjoyed the little bird icon LOL They are waking me up early morning these days even when it is still dark but I find the wood pigeons more annoying.
Hi Dave this is a nice video well put together it a nice model too the couples on it are the same on hornby pullmans coaches which did derail them too love the history keep safe arp
Adi Pullen Really?, that’s poor. I cant understand why the models fall short on such a basic thing as a coupler. It’s really. It not acceptable. My oxford mk3a couplers are poor at times!
Tempted by Dapol's N Gauge model but went for something Scottish instead, snapped up 47701 got the MK3's just awaiting the DBSO, do enjoy your videos Dave, have got a lot of inspiration from you :)
Very nice review of a beautiful locomotive. Your layout is fantastic, details really stand out. It’s only been in the last couple years of watching RUclips and getting back into model railroading that I have become familiar with UK Railroading, both model and prototype. I have a great admiration for the UK railroad scenes and equipment. Thanks for sharing 👍👍👍😎😎😎 Cary
Really like your videos, this one was especially good as there is a Railfreight Grey version just popped up in my local model shop weathered by the shop owner. I’m torn to buy it or not 😬😬😬
Nice review of the BREL 56 and some great running shots. I've had problems with the coupling on my version of this model, so much so that I removed it, the other end is fine. I think they certainly had some quality issues with my model. Cheers Paul
Dunge Wood Model Railway they had a few around that time. My mate had one with such a poor application of the blue that you could see the bare plastic in the roof!! It was awful. I was lucky-ish with mine. I originally had a few running issues where it had a squeak.. but this was fixed under warranty by Hornby.
Blimey I haven't seen any with bad paint but plenty that squeak lol, I think I've still got one that I put away for another time and still haven't done it... Cheers
Heathrow Aircraft - past and present. Hi. Thank you. I love your videos too. I’m a train modeller first, but I have a passion for aircraft and modelling aircraft. Keep up the good work. Dave
Brilliant showcase of one of Hornby's finest-I really enjoyed the running session. I have a few of these, but none in BR blue! Any chance you could do more showcases of some steamers please? Kind regards.
Good review of a well detailed loco. If I ever build a run around layout it will be on my shopping list. I look forward to your next model railway/wildlife video! ;-)
That's a superb model Dave, and a true likeness of the real thing....Loved the Blackbird song, but not so keen on the image of the bird appearing randomly...You're too good to have to include gimmicks Dave....Bob
Lovely model Dave and a great review. Steve Smith and Tim Cooper keep trying to convince me to go BR Blue rather than modern era as there used to be some great stock running on the Riviera Line back in the late 70's/early 80's. Videos like this do not help. lol If I didn't love my GWR Green HST and IET so much I may have considered a change, but I'm staying put. :) All the best Jamie
Pennyhill Junction you. An always get one and run it on a rail tour! :-) BR blue and sectorisation are my passion but sometimes I do with i modelled modern day as the HST in GWR, EMT, cross country, LNER abd Scotrail are stunning. I’ve got a Hornby Scotrail HST on order.... not my era but it’s stunning in real life :-) I always say, it’s my Railway, I’ll run what I like! You do the same. :-) Dave
Absolutely Dave and that's how it should be. Looking forward to seeing the ScotRail HST at Dean Park. Fantastic looking livery. A section of my layout will be a heritage line/station so a good excuse to get some classic locos and liveries on display. And as you say...can always run a Rail Tour on the mainline too. So much variety, but very damaging to my bank balance. ;) Thanks again Jamie
Hello, I have one of these that was part of a collection when they first came out. It needs a few things like buffers. Where can I get these parts? Thanks a bunch :)
Hi! So many of us are looking for hornby class 56 buffers! They come out so easily and for some daft reason hornby don’t seem to want to supply spares! You can contact hornby, but I did that and they sent me buffers for a Class 60!, not a 56.
@@DeanPark Thanks Dean Park Model Railway, shame they aren’t more consistent on these things as they came out very easily on mine! My dads friend works for Hornby, so perhaps we might be able to call up and arrange something. Thanks for your very helpful advice :) 👍
What’s the point of spring shut door How do you tell on a loco witch is cab 1 and cab 2. Blackbird tinder u mean twitter. Think it may have a nest up there
diesel 13 13 yes, I have experienced this. It could be the drive shaft slipping. Or have you still got the the rubber band that rotates the fan?... that will be the main culprit.
My new Hornby 56 was siezed, had to strip it down and remove all the dried up lubricant especially round the carden shaft bearings, runs like a dream now after re-lubricating and fitting with a lenz decoder, the lights don't work though so think i will hard wire these one day.
nice review David, I liked those boxes for some strange reason, it took me back to the old lima boxes we had as kids. Very informative video and interesting history of the locomotive. I see you have a thumbs down already how pathetic Andy
Bruce Welsh lol... honestly it took me double the time to film this because of the bleedin’ bird!! Lol. I’ve got a few out takes I can tell you!! Not broadcast-able !

Nice . I remember seeing these beasts on MGR workings on the Edinburgh sub line to fife. Difficult model to get a hold of these days
Let's hope your blackbird was able to attract a mate with his song!
Good video ,why thumbs down thank mate 😊

The running session with the hopper wagons is mightily impressive Dave. Are they Bachmann wagons?. Don't be too hard on the blackbird!!. Cheers.

The hoppers are Hornby ones, stunning wagons. Lots of detail.
The box vans are Bachmann.

Me my friends see 56s quite often we usually call them grids
Prefer the Blackbird if im honest.. Pure beauty.
Nice model, shouldn't have rubber window surrounds though, only the Romanian grids had them.
Surely the Blackbird should go on Twitter, not Tinder!
Kevin Mottram HAHA! Yes indeed.

that ok
The blackbird can't go on tinder because he's too poor to have a phone.
Now, if he were a rich man.....
