A daunting task. S turns can bring trouble. The new plan looks like it will run much more smoothly. You are brave cutting in and changing your track path at this stage. Best of luck with it. Rob
Hi, Kevin. I have found 2 problems with goods wagons & R2 curves. 1) The wagons are very light and 2) If they are continually going around the curves in the same direction the wheels tend to get out of alignment especially on wagons with plastic axles. MY "fix" is to reset the wheels back-back measurements using a 14.5mm wheel gauge then check their running OK. If all is well I then apply some super glue to the back of the wheels/axles to stop them from moving out of gauge again. I don't tend to have any problems with coaches. Finally DO always check new wagons wheels/axles are set correctly as I have had quite a few Bachmann, Heljan, Dapol etc with plastic axles which do not have the wheels set correctly. You have found a good solution to the problems you had as R2 curves are, if possible, best avoided. :-)
Topical video for me Kevin, I am currently halfway through re-laying the curve on my layout to change it from 32" radius to 36" radius. Been having trouble with some of my larger steam locos de-railing on the tighter curvature, hopefully this will cure it.
Hi Kevin, just to prove that some changes are necessary to get better performance from bigger engines. A viaduct would look great across that span too!! Cheers, Chris
It can be a pain in the derrière when you get a stretch of track giving derailments Kevin as I am sure we all experience , looks like you have got the right idea to solving this problem, all looking great on the layout ... Dave
Hi Kevin, It does seem a shame that the view of those three tunnels will be obscured now but I am with you all the way when it comes to reliable running. Regular derailments are a real motivation killer. Now looking forward to what you come up with for the viaduct scene and what becomes of the old track bed. ...........................John
Thanks John hopefully will replicate the tunnels in a new position further forward this will be a work in progress as for the old tack bed still unsure what to do with that area but something will fall into place cheers Kevin
Not unlike a real railway where realignment occurs. I recently constructed a realignment on my layout to eliminate a 2nd radius curve, but I partially kept the old alignment as a decommissioned/abandoned line. It might be quite interesting to do something similar on your old alignment if you were wondering what to do with the space.
Hi. I had the same problem on my layout, if you remove the coupling cam from the class 50 and attach an nem pocket direct to the bogie it solves all these issues, I have some 2nd radius curves on mine and this is an instant fix 👍
Looks a Great Layout, however I would recommend using Felix Track, as the curves look a bit to sharp and I have also had problems, with Set Track with My Bachmann Class 66s keep on derailing, the best bet of cause with Felix Track is you just bend it to whatever radius you like, and the Engines and stock seem to run better on Peco Felix Track then they do on lets say set track, I can only say from My Experience with Model Railways, and yes its your layout on this channel so build it however you like, but I would recommend using Felix Track, and if this was My layout I would most Deffo be using Felix Track, and I also model in 009 NG which is also Narrow Gauge Peco Felix Track, but that is another story for another day
Hi Kevin, nice update, and a much better line for the track, which should improve train running a lot. I'm curious to ask if all your track is Setrack or flexitrack, I'm guessing Peco, but could be Hornby too I guess. Flexible would give you a beautiful track alignment round that curve. Anyway great video and I love the layout, best regards Dave.
Hi Kevin, yo9ur new track alignment is looking to have solved your problem and as a bonus given you something new to model. A copy and adaption of Calstock springs to mind. Barry.Devon
Understandable change but you didn't say what you have planned for the old route. Leaving the track in place and then making it look as nature has reclaimed the ground would look good. Love watching your layout but any chance of a few Hymeks moving one day please? Mark
Hi kev what you going to do with the old part maybe make it into the old lines put some old track down then rust paint the lines and make it like a abandoned lines over grown grass or do you have plans great video though cheers Paul
Thanks Paul not really sure what to do with the old section might do something like that will see how it looks when I get the new section complete cheers Kevin
Well done Kevin. What will you do with the old track dogleg area? The Rev W Awdry was right about 'troublesome trucks' wasn't he? I've enough trouble with plastic wheels and I'm swapping then out for metals. Some don't like be coupled at both ends. Some have problematic couplings........ all part of tbe hobby I suppose?
Hi mark not sure yet as to what to do in the corner , I think I have the biggest problems with new bachman coach coupling usually wagons are not to bad cheers Kevin
Frsutrating when you get a bit of dodgy track but ultimately you have to deal with it to avoid ongoing frustration. Good plan mate. You have some space for another industry in that dog leg now.....Mark
One of the early bits of track ,trying to cram to much in ! Yea not sure what to put in that corner but something will spring to mind at some point cheers Kevin
@@kevintregunna We all make the mistake of cramming too much in! I think a Holman Compressor building would go great in that space - I have memories of those yellow compressors being shipped out on flat wagons and often seen in the sidings at Drump Road

Rob McCrain thanks Rob I like a challenge but yes should make a big difference cheers Kevin
Looks a lot better now Kevin. I'm looking forward to seeing how you finish it off..................John.
Thanks John bit more planning on what to do to that area cheers Kevin

Thanks Pat must admit will never use 2 nd radius curves again not checked back to backs but must have a look at that as well cheers Kevin
Decent that Kevin, 2.5hrs work and a lot done. Will be tuning in for the update.
Cheers
Thanks Ade that worked in well but probably will change when we see it next time cheers Kevin

A pain in the proverbial ! And an awkward place to work on but getting there
Hi Kevin, just to prove that some changes are necessary to get better performance from bigger engines. A viaduct would look great across that span too!! Cheers, Chris
Thanks Chris will give a chance to do a bit of modelling

That was a great idea what you dun there to the layout you have it was good to see it. 👍 🚂 👍
Mick's backyard Aquaponics thanks hopefully will be a bit better running
Bravo, Kevin. Looks Good, works well. Cheers, R.
Thanks very much
Looks great kevin look forward to seeing the next update cheers Beeton Hough Junction (Dave C)
Thanks Dave
Looking better! A viaduct will be a good addition to the scene.
Thank you should work a lot better
Just goes to show layouts never finish they evolve, cheers Kevin all the best Paul at Sandling Junction
Sandling Junction Thanks Paul always something to change
To keep the space below open Id cross there using stone piers and straight bridge sections like the approach to the Tamar bridge just an idea
That could be a good idea ,will be something to play around with this week cheers Kevin

Station Road Model Railway thanks very much not sure what to do with it at the moment

Thanks for that will take a look at my 50 that is causing the problem ,did think of make a wire hoop coupling on the Loco cheers Kevin
Thanks Liskwithiel they are pain in the proverbial did wonder about trying a wire bar coupling and do away with the normal coupling cheers Kevin

Cheers Kevin
like the idea of a viaduct, how about a little quarry pond on the old track bed?
Thanks quarry pond would be different I quite fancy building something in that area but not sure what something will evolve in the end

Always seems to be issues to fix or changes we want.
Suppose it what keeps us modelling cheers Kevin
Looks good better for the trains not so sharp a curve saves damaging your stock
Thanks John working better
Have you thought about leaving the lifted rail area as an overgrown real life engineering correction?
Hi Robert yes have thought of that but might be nice to model something else but not sure on what as yet
