I like Tenkaichi 2 more than 3 . In terms of gameplay i understand why people prefer 3. But the story between the two are not comparable. Tenkaichi 3s story feels rushed as hell

It's like that for most people who actually grew up playing them. I remember seeing Budokai Tenkaichi 2 commercials on normal TV, which was pretty rare at the time for an anime game.
ngl, for some reason as a child I thought the intro Narration explained the start of dragon ball, like "those who's lives were touched by the dragon balls" I took that as they'd physically touched them, now they are powerful & have that main character aura, it also scared me with that intense dramatic music with that dark ass screen/room I was in
I still prefer Dragon Universe mode and exploration in Budokai 3. It felt more rewarding than exploring the world in Tenkaichi 2. I think Tenkaichi 2 wins over Tenkaichi 3 in story mode (good entry for newcomers) and customization. Though Tenkaichi 3 wins with gameplay, roster, move diversity and game modes. I love the music in all games.
Ok for those videos and people saying I prefer the 2 instead of the 3 and all that but you really need to understand that they just are in fact ONE BIG SINGLE GAME !! Basically Budokai Tenkaishi 2 and 3 are just DLCs /add-ons of the 1 from and old era. That why they came out with 1 year separated them
You forgot to mention even tho the cutscenes have stilted movements with speech bubbles, there are 2 or 3 types of story cutscenes. The one i just mentioned and the one that's really good, the 2nd is that there are certain fights in the story that has actual different animated fight cutscenes ripped straight from the anime/manga that it made the immersion go from let's say 60% to straight up 85 to 88% of loving the story and almost forgetting the stillness speech bubble scenes. Few Examples: Goku vs Vegeta, Goku vs Turles, Goku vs Frieza, Gohan vs Cell, Goku vs Kid Buu, SSJ4 Gogeta vs Omega Shenron. There could be more im forgetting but these cutscenes made everyone love the story sometimes even better or is better than tenkaichi 3. Anyway sorry for yapping just wanted to mention the amazing cutscenes hope you could mention in a future tenkaichi retrospective. Great Video Retrospective.
While I prefer T3 for its roster and tighter gameplay mechanics, I will admit that T2 was still a massive improvement over T1. It had the best/most complete story mode of any DB game up to that point (even if the presentation was kinda janky and a far cry from say, Budokai 1's quality cutscenes and animation). And even the gameplay had mechanics that T3 didn't have - although I can see why they were removed/altered for T3 for the sake of streamlining, I can understand why some people might prefer T2. And while T3's roster is objectively bigger and better, T2 was itself massive for the time and to this day still has the 2nd biggest roster in a DB fighting game, adding in not only the 'popular' choices, but also the more obscure and surprising ones which tend to be my favorites simply due to the novelty of being able to finally play as them (which T3 would continue with this trend).
I wouldn't say overshadowed, it's just that Tenkaichi 3 highly refined what Tenkaichi 2 started. Everyone knew/knows BT2 was the turning point of the Tenkaichi series. The first game was largely considered a major step down from Budokai 3 (which even critics were praising), but then BT2 came and most players were saying it was almost as good as B3.
It's been a little weird seeing Budokai Tenkaichi 3 get more attention, and being called the greatest DBZ game on Instagram and Tik Tok. Budokai Tenkaichi 2 was the way more advertised and way more popular of the two when they first came out. I know of so many people my age who only played 2, and as kids didn't even know 3 existed. I knew because I was a huge anime geek as a child. I think it comes down to a lot of kids in this current gen not actually experiencing the games back then, and just now getting to play them after the fact. It would be kind of like saying Infinite World is the greatest Budokai over Budokai 3, when no one even really played Infinite World. Also the improvements from BT2 to 3 are way less than what was improved upon from BT1 to 2.

Here's an example of what I'm talking about. Final Fantasy 13 might be a technical advancement from 7, but 7 is still considered to be better because of the advancements it made for the series at the time. It's like that BT2, it just did more. BT3 is better from a technical standpoint but it added very little to the series as a whole in the grand scheme of things. People saying BT3 is better lack the perspective of having experienced the games as they were released. How old are you btw?

Bro the only thing I'm gonna hate is that they are probably gonna make some characters DLC you have to buy and monetize the game too much. They would never just give you the full game with every character like they did back in Budokai-BT3

I know the hype is high for Sparking Zero, but I seriously doubt it will be as good as T2/T3. The amount of characters that are going to be cut is already concerning, but there's also the gameplay itself that has me concerned. It'll be like Raging Blast all over again, but maybe not even as good as that.

Great video! I've never personally owned Tenkaichi 3, but 2 I have played SO much since it came out back when I was a teen, & have absolutely loved it ever since. Excellent roster, gameplay & the story modes were fantastic too, I remember feeling like the enjoyment for the game just went on & on for so so long.

Videl had 3 unique rushes, Kid Trunks had a generic rush and volley, adult Gohan had the volley, Bardock had a fully unique moveset, Goten had the volley only in base, Turles had a fully unique moveset, Frieza Soldiers had unique animations for both their energy waves, Android 20 and 19 had a pink energy wave and High Power Rush became unique to 19. On top of having more varied, polished and unique rushes, every energy attack, including ki blasts looked so much better in 3. Energy attacks in 2 were mono-color and generic. Having them hit for multiple hits in 3 really improved things. Everyone had the same, ugly ki effect when charging up in 2. 3 is so much better with everyone having the correct ki color and different aura charge effects. 3 has way better transformations too. 2 basically had a stock animation for everyone.
I've always spoken about how this game gets overshadowed by bt3 and is one of the best db games out there and it saddens me it has a superior soundtrack, game cutscenes that are manga accurate, Cell games narrated by Cell himself and finally a smoother combat system I'm glad you revisted this game Hidden cause I felt like your initial review while excellent missed quite a few details in the game here and there but I'm down for this review Thank you
I always liked to more than 3, and from a dev standpoint it was way more innovative, I dont fault 3 for not going all out on additions but for some reason they took some stuff out, also the new characters arent notable aside shadow dragons and future gohan
T3 was worth it for King Cold alone for me 😁. King Vegeta and Dr. Wheelo were cool too. And Babidi. And General Blue. Etc. I know these guys dont excite a lot of people, but to me, one of my favorite things about the Tenkaichi games was being able to finally play as characters that would otherwise never appear in a DB game. We all know that there will be 20 versions of Goku, Vegeta, and Gohan, Frieza, Cell, Buu, etc., but the novelty of being able to put together a team of Frieza's whole family, or the whole Ginyu Force, or having all of the main villains from the DB movies, just felt too good to be true. And I'm hoping Sparking Zero can build upon that, but I have my doubts.
I bought dragon ball z kakarot because it reminded me to much of dragon ball z budokai tenkachi 3 and I got dragon ball fighter z and its fun but I would say dbz budokai tenkachi 3 is the best dbz game so far.
I personally had more fun playing BT2, i loved the story mode and the z iteam fusion. BT3 did improve on some of the combat and obviously more characters

@serendipitouscomet Has to be the case, I just remember being super disappointed at what a downgrade I felt like BT3 was. Even the game graphical looks less smooth & more Rigid that BT2. Plus I loved the lil rpg/development aspect of the story that was removed for no good reason.
There were things i liked better in BT2 than in BT3. The obvious one is the story mode, but the music i think was better too, i also though the second one looked better than the third one, atleast on the Wii. And i remember that the sound effects and in fight voice lines were lower quality in the third game for some reason.
Pretty sure the graphics in T3 were better, even if it was only the stages. Character models were ripped straight out of T2 with no improvements. I hear you about the sound quality though. The Wii version seemed to have lower quality audio than the PS2 version for some reason - yet it ran better. And ironically, the Wii version of T2 had lots of slowdown which I don't think the PS2 version had.
@@N.i.E.M.O Its been a very long time since i've played these games, i just remember that the second one looking "cleaner" than the third one. Maybe my memories have mistaken the in fight sound quality with graphics. lol I also only played the Wii versions.

Agreed, 2 was made for its in depth storymode while 3 was made mostly for the multiplayer element.
And in 3 I feel it is kinda all over the place and you just fight instead of exploring the map and getting other z items

We all know that there will be 20 versions of Goku, Vegeta, and Gohan, Frieza, Cell, Buu, etc., but the novelty of being able to put together a team of Frieza's whole family, or the whole Ginyu Force, or having all of the main villains from the DB movies, just felt too good to be true. And I'm hoping Sparking Zero can build upon that, but I have my doubts.

I bought dragon ball z kakarot because it reminded me to much of dragon ball z budokai tenkachi 3 and I got dragon ball fighter z and its fun but I would say dbz budokai tenkachi 3 is the best dbz game so far.

I personally had more fun playing BT2, i loved the story mode and the z iteam fusion. BT3 did improve on some of the combat and obviously more characters

@serendipitouscomet Has to be the case, I just remember being super disappointed at what a downgrade I felt like BT3 was. Even the game graphical looks less smooth & more Rigid that BT2.
Plus I loved the lil rpg/development aspect of the story that was removed for no good reason.

There were things i liked better in BT2 than in BT3. The obvious one is the story mode, but the music i think was better too, i also though the second one looked better than the third one, atleast on the Wii. And i remember that the sound effects and in fight voice lines were lower quality in the third game for some reason.
Pretty sure the graphics in T3 were better, even if it was only the stages. Character models were ripped straight out of T2 with no improvements.
I hear you about the sound quality though. The Wii version seemed to have lower quality audio than the PS2 version for some reason - yet it ran better. And ironically, the Wii version of T2 had lots of slowdown which I don't think the PS2 version had.
@@N.i.E.M.O Its been a very long time since i've played these games, i just remember that the second one looking "cleaner" than the third one. Maybe my memories have mistaken the in fight sound quality with graphics. lol I also only played the Wii versions.

kinda ironic you did this right as I started another run for sparking neo, it’s my favorite by far and i’m not sure why, maybe it’s the level system or other things
hopefully Sparking Zero is the happy medium of BT3’s gameplay and BT2’s story mode.
I think BT 2 and BT 3 will still end up looking better than this new game even Raging Blast 1 which i will say has THEE best DBZ graphics ever that will be hard to beat
Luckily no game overshadows Battle of Z. I mean, no other DBZ game lets you engage in 4v4 PVP battles!

tenkaichi 2 had way more sauce than 3, soundtrack story and everything, it was only missing some non essential characters as well to be on par with 3

Sparking Neo had the best story mode f that series. I still prefer Budokai 3with it's wacky "What If" paths, but it's close.
I miss Saiyan Soul being stackable. One of many nerfs between BT2 to BT3.
I grew up playing the tenkaichi 2 game since it was so hard to get the tenkaichi 3 game and I don’t know why but I like tenkaichi 2 more
