- At least 14 students and one teacher are dead after an elementary school shooting in Texas. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott confirmed an 18-year-old entered the campus of Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, a town about 80 miles west of San Antonio. The governor said he had a handgun, and possibly a rifle. The Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District announced the presence of a shooter at Robb Elementary School on its social media channels just after 1:15 in the afternoon.
My heart breaks for all the parents and families who had their whole world taken from them today.

This seriously needs to stop. They’re elementary school students, how could you even think of doing this? As of now, it’s 21 deaths confirmed, 19 of students, and 2 teachers
I am a student from Morales Junior High, just a couple miles away from Robb Elementary School. I am heartbroken by this experience, and not only about those innocent victims, but the fact that most students here in the junior high school dont even care about the situation. Snapping and throwing gang signs in the middle of a real lockdown. 🤦♂️

I just heard about this and I'm heartbroken, not only that it happened but that a person would have the mental desire to kill over a dozen little kids. Horrible. I am praying for all of the families that were affected.

I actually cried when I was notified of this on my phone today. Knowing that they were children in just elementary school hurts even more. This is absolutely heartbreaking and disgusting. As an expert said, this happened and has happened multiple and multiple times, and yet nothing is gonna be done about it. I honestly don't understand how you can live in America and feel safe sending your kid to school. And if you think "oh we don't but that's just how it is in America". That's sad and messed up.
It will keep happening unless something is done. But I don’t know if anything will be done considering these shooting keep on occurring and nothing has changed.

As a retire vet from TX I would gladly volunteer to provide security to our schools...we have armed guards in government offices and banks why not protect our most precious assets our children..OUR FUTURE!

There needs to be a volunteer program. But funding is the issue. When the federal government skims 30% off the top, then spends too much, devaluing the dollar, there's not much room to tax on the state and local level for security.

I have a 4th and 5th grader. They have been so excited for summer vacation and getting to watch movies on the last days of school.

I’m so tired of hearing about mass shootings in this country. And for someone to kill elementary students! I can remember that the one at Sandy Hook was the first mass shooting I ever heard about and it horrified me that anyone could do that. Before that I had never thought twice about school being a safe place.

- Countries such as Australia that have banned most gun ownership now have more violent crime.
If there had been armed security at that school, most or all of the deaths would NOT have happened.
This shooting was so preventable, how can an person who just turned 18 buy an automatic rifle without any gun license, mental exam, or background check. This is not okay and will keep happening unless something is done. And for the people trying to defend against gun by saying it’s there 2nd amendment right you all should know that was passed into law in 1798. There were no automatic weapons in 1798, you’d be lucky 2 shoot a gun twice in a minute back then. As long as that exists these tragedies will keep on occurring.

The fact that my class is writing essays about school shootings and we heard the news at that time is devastating
It’s now 19 kids and 2 adults. I’m heartbroken, but not shocked anymore.
How messed up does someone have to be to shoot up an elementary school, if I were a survivor of that at 7 years old I would have so many mental issues. I cannot imagine the pain that the families of the people who died there must feel, I also couldn’t imagine how sad a lot of the kids there must be right now never being able to see their friends again. I am praying for everyone impacted by this.
A parent sent their child to school today. That child never returned home. Shot dead in a place that they should be safe.
And behind this, a nation divided and unwilling to make changes to prevent this from ever happening again.
