- In our one-hour special, "One Year In: Uvalde," KSAT looks at the past 12 months, the victims and survivors, and how their legacy spreads outside their local community.

376 men showed up to that school and stood in the hallway and outside like cowards while these children bled and died.
no one was taking command. Also multiple different agencies in the building. Unaware if a barricaded hostage situation or a “bail” … illegal immigrant ran inside to hide after bailing from a vehicle.
Everyone arrived after the initial Gu n Fire. They were unaware it was an active shooter.

Irma Garcia’s husband died a few days later of a heart attack. He truly died of a broken heart of losing his wife. Rip to all the victims and my condolences to the families affected. I cried when I saw the news it hits home and I live 2 hours away from Uvalde

i remember seeing the daughter’s tiktok of her saying happy birthday and rest in peace to both her parents. i cant imagine what grief shes going through.
That tattoo of the bullet hole on his back to represent his boy was the most heart wrenching and powerful tattoo I have ever seen. ALL schools need to be far more secure. Adding more cameras is great but if a gun man decides to rush into a school and start shooting immediately, security officers aren't going to stop them before it's too late for some victims. A bullet travels a lot faster than a human can. Staff and students need to not only know how to protect themselves and know what to do in an emergency but they also need to learn how to help the wounded while they wait for emergency responders. Too often we see that shooting victims are alive but die because they didn't get help fast enough. They need to be able to help themselves and each other while they wait for help to come.
Including Mr. Garcia in the pictures at the end is a reminder that he was also a victim, died of a broken heart, he is representing all the parents, siblings, family and friends that are left suffering because of the tragedy.

It has been a year and I have thought about Uvalde every day since it's happened. The world will not forget these babies.

I feel so choked up and emotional watching this. As a mother the idea of this pain you’re feeling is something I fear to feel in this lifetime. Sorry for your loss .. I know my sorry does nothing to bring your loved one back but know I feel for your pain.

Im bawling 😭. Whoever can watch this and not shed tears just has no heart. Like how can anyone do this to little babies?!? Why?!? I feel these families pain. I have lost a loved one out out of nowhere and it feels horrible, so I can just imagine losing a loved one in this manner must be 10x more amplified. Especially when it’s children. It's so incredibly sad to watch a mother buy the bed that her daughter wanted after her daughter was brutally murdered. We get so caught in the grind of everyday life and trying to pay bills that we forget that that's all just in this fraction from what life actually is. Life is fleeting. It's here one moment and gone the next and the things that we give value is all will ever have and there's no chance to redo it. I think as a society we need to learn how to move out of the rat race and back into living.

Oddly enough, just this morning I was thinking of the problems we're now facing ai within the same framework that you've mentioned. There are short-term and long-term issues that should be getting handled by our governments but the reigns have instead been turned over to the ultra-rich who are looking to use this technology to take as much as they can for as long as they can without any consideration for the strife that would cause the common person or the likely violent revolution that will be a result.
Father God please hold these broken families in your arms. Please give them the comfort that only you can provide. Please heal this country and bring your presence to our youth.

This touches everyone all over the world that has a heart. Till this day it hurts to watch and watch the parents hurting. You feels helpless. its heartbreaking to see videos and pictures of them living their best lives and so full of joy after this happened. these parents , these families , lost a piece of their life. we will never forget the 21 angels , may they rest in paradise 🫂.
My heart breaks for these parents ,children,grandparents, and friends.
As an Australian and ECE, I cannot fathom WHY guns are more important than a child’s life.
When this happened, I was approached by many children at my childcare centre, asking whether this could happen to them. I was so happy to tell them NO…it was very unlikely.
I wish that could be the same in America.
But unless something horrific like this affects children from the families of those in charge of this gun control stuff, then I’m afraid nothing will change. My heart goes out to you all and your children are very far from my thoughts. xx

gun lobbyists simply exist so gun companies don't go bankrupt through lawfare.
"wannabe soldiers" want to be left alone. But each day y ou're giving them more and more reason to not leave y ou alone.

Their grief is just so really, I can feel it in their words, see it in their faces.
I just lost my first classmate, a friend I wasn't too close with but who I saw and talked to and knew. She was fifteen. And that hurts like hell, I am still in disbelief.
I cannot imagine grief on the scale that these families are feeling. I feel so deeply for all of you, please know that there will never be a day where your grief is invalid or where you are not loved.

I watched this and Univisions coverage cause of my grandma. Thank you San Antonio journalist for not leaving and helping these families fight.

Of all the tragic events that have happened in my lifetime, this one stays in my heart and prayers and will never be forgotten as long as I live. God bless all these beautiful souls.
I have no ties to anyone in Uvalde but I feel very connected to this tragedy and these beautiful souls who lost their earthly lives that day continue to and always be in my thoughts and prayers. I wish I can tell these grieving people that I fully believe their loved ones are with them right now and they are trying to reach them to tell them they are in a beautiful place and they want nothing more than to help them to heal and fell happy again - that's what are departed loved ones want more than anything else for us for we will all one day be reunited and will be the most joyous time we can imagine.
OMG! A child that was shot 7 times and bleed there for over 70 minutes. WOW nobody talks about that!

Eliahna's room that her mama so lovingly and beautifully set up in her new house, that broke me. I wish we never knew any of these kids names or their parents names and that they were still just regular, everyday, now 5th grade kids living in Uvalde.
even our school in san antonio took a moment of silence in the morning for them on the anniversary, rest in peace to the 21 angels.

Every time I see anything related to this tragedy, I get angry at the "cops" who showed extreme cowardice. It enrages me to know they stood around for over an hour listening to these innocents die. Of all these "police" there was not enough courage to intervene. And these cowards call themselves "men"? Their only major contribution was to bully the parents who were willing to risk their lives to save these children. I have no words to describe the absolute disgust I have for them. I hope the word coward follows them everywhere they go. May these innocents rest in peace.

All of those beautiful children. Worst nightmare. What needs to change for the lawmakers to realize how horrific these loses are? Parents shouldn’t be living without their kids and love ones. Heartbreaking!
What can lawmakers accomplish to stop or prevent these terrible acts? I feel we must protect our schools just as much as the White House or Capitol Hill. The gun free zones are where these terrible people go to commit these horrendous atrocities because they lack security. I would home school my children today if they were still young enough to be in school. My grandchildren are home schooled due to what the schools have become. Children need protection today more than ever but guns have been around for hundreds of years. These atrocities are a recent issue which has me asking why . What is different today than 40 years ago? Until we actually get to the root of the problem, it’s going to continue. All I know is guns aren’t the problem but the answer to preventing more of our children being murdered in schools. I applaud the school system’s that have decided to protect their children like the White House.

I can’t tell you the pit that’s left in my stomach watching this. So many failures in so many ways. These poor poor parents. As a mom who’s son should be starting school next year I don’t know what to do.

Im not from uvalde, not even from the states, im a 14 year old school girl from a small city in England and all i can say is how sorry i am for the tragedy, not anyone in the world deserves their life to me cut short in such a horrific way💔 i cried watching this and all i can do is talk to the farther and pray he keeps those children, teachers and parents safe. I will forever remember the names. America please change your laws 🙏

I completely understand theses parents and I mostly understand that emptiness in your heart 💔 it feels like a piece of our hearts are gone with them in heaven and it's sad 😭 how we just how we have to move on and keep living alone with his this pain in our souls we just do not understand why any of this happened to us did we do to deserve any of this or our kids what did they do do to deserve this I really hope theses parents find some hope and comfort in their hearts and I know the parents and most likely the survivors mean when they say this Change them emotional and I mentally I am also a PTSD survivor to I lost my best friend in a shooting he was shoot and I saw him lose his life and since that day I am broken 💔 my heart doesn't understand he's gone but mind knows this is reality 😭 he left me 10 years ago and the most hardest day is when he left this world but I am doing ok thanks to doctors and counselors that have been with me this whole time and the incredible support from my family the only hope I do have is that someday we will meet again and the only thing that counsels me is the momries we had 💔
