Four Roses is the pinnacle of what every distillery should model. They actually have attainable product that is top tier at every price point. So sick of allocated bourbons that started as $30 dollar bottles that became popular, then allocated, then 6X in price but the flavor doesn’t hold up to the new price.I’ll take Four Roses all day.
After this video, I'm going to buy a bottle or two. You are so right. I can go into store after store and find their product.
While I have limited experience with 4R, I couldn't agree with you more on the $30->$180 allocation crap. It's absolutely ridiculous. Even beyond the sad reality that people are making these bourbons status symbols, many of these status symbols aren't really all that good. 😄
I'd add michters to the list. they are the best at making and producing low to high level amazing products
I wouldn't say the entry-level Four Roses Yellow label is "top tier" for its $24 price point, but agree with the rest.
They were top shelf till they got bought out. Now they are bottom shelf.
Four Roses Single Barrel was my introduction into the bourbon world. In a way, kind of set me up for failure because it was SO good that all the other bourbons I've tried since have been lacking lol!
4 roses sb is awesome! It is also a high rye mash bill bourbon so maybe make your next bourbon purchase also a high rye. Ex, 1792 small batch or old grandad bib, 114. Just a thought.
@@slbdrinks I appreciate the suggestions! Definitely will give those a try as I accustom to the burn.
Awesome idea to delve into one single distillery's offerings. When I go to the store I often wonder what the difference is in a distillery's small batch, vs single barrel, vs select, etc. This would make a great series!
Yes! We did do Old Forester as well if you haven’t seen that one and more coming!
Another great idea that you knocked outta the park! Haven't done any of the Four Roses yet but this video makes me want to start entry level and run. Thanks again for great info
I am not sure anyone does better with their blending than Four Roses. It's an excellent product, IMO.
The best!
My favorite bourbon show! Have been diving into the bourbon scene past 2 years and really appreciate you and your sons views and suggestions..keep up the great work and as always looking forward to the next show..cheers!!
Thanks for the Four Roses test! I definitely love the entry level and the small batch but now I am intrigued to keep going up the ladder all the way to the top. Four Roses definitely knows their bourbon. Thank you guys.
Great show. Really glad Trenton is now on camera. Added nothing but goodness to an already great channel.
Yes please! I would really like to see more of this series as well as a cross reference comparison with other bottles. Love what you do!
Thank you! Didn’t think of cross referencing until these comments and I think it’s a great idea!
Great concept! I enjoy the comparison videos!
Thank you!
You guys are awesome - appreciate you guys doing this and glad you’re listening to us subscribers!
You guys always have great ideas!
what a great guy, very patient and respectful... a true mentor
Just want to thank you guys, I’m learning and growing through your channel
Great review . Will be trying the small batch select. Keep up the good job
This is an interesting approach to reviews. I like it and thank you guys! I look forward to other similar reviews of different distilleries.
Thank you!
I really liked this episode. Four roses small batch is one of my favorites. I always have a bottle of it at home. I haven't yet tried the others from them, but I will after this.
This type of review is priceless. Thanks guys!
Thank you!
Absolutely love this style of video! Can't wait to see you do some other distilleries of commonly found bottles! 4 roses small batch is one of my favorite easy to find bourbon at that price point in my area!
Def an excellent choice!
I totally enjoy your vids. Thanks for sharing these different bourbons. I’ve had the Small Batch and I loved it. I’ll have to try the others after seeing this. Cheers 🥃🥃
Hope you love them!
Small batch has been my go-to for years. Love the whole lineup. Btw, great show as always.
Vidoes like this one are exactly why I subscribe to this channel. Great content and perfect length. Thank you
Much appreciated!
I always enjoy what you're doing with the different Bourbons. Watching has done a lot for me...
Really glad to hear that. Thank you
This series is great for someone like myself who has only been drinking bourbon for several months and hasn't had the time to dedicate resources to each offering within a company
GREAT COMPARATIVE VIDEO!!!! Nice that you tried from low to high and gave a detail of each and how they stepped up and up in various tastes/textures/etc.... Great video!!
Thank you!
Great video!! I fell in love with small batch the first time I tried it. It’s a keeper but this video helps me to want to try the others. Thank you
Glad you like it!
Great idea! Looking forward to the Wild Turkey edition
Me to!
@@slbdrinks me as well. From as much as I have been seeing you enjoy and talk up WT 101, it is definitely my next bottle.
4 Rose's Single Barrel was my first "expensive" bottle. I distinctly remember that first bottle because it was the first bourbon I tried with distinct flavor notes. I could isolate a sweet cinnamon nose and taste.
From south Korea , with love of bourbon , I appreciate your excellent briefing. Four Roses in not popular in S.K. and not imported by large companies but I love it.
More like this please. I just love the single barrel but will now try small batch. Thanks for this super helpful review.
Thank you!
I had the Single Barrel while already drinking on a golf course and didn't remember what it was until I watched this (recognized the label)... I went out and bought some and must say that it is my favorite bourbon to date. Great review and thanks for bringing me back to it.
Really enjoyed that review, hope to see that with other distilleries. I have the Four Roses single barrel on the shelf but haven’t opened it yet, will be doing so soon. Keep up the great work. 🥃👍🏻
Awesome! Enjoy!
Good review. The small batch select has been on my shelf and I’ve been enjoying it a lot lately.
Awesome!
Thanks for the information really helps in stocking up choices.
Thank you so much for doing this review. Honest and great content as usual:)
Thank you!
I really enjoyed this review! Thanks
Thank you!
Love this format. Just opened the small batch select. WOW!
Glad you liked it!
This is a really good idea for a series, it would be cool to see for a ton of the brand lineups
Agreed!
Four roses is one of my everyday pours I bought a bottle of the small batch select after seeing this and I must say it was fantastic in my opinion
Four Roses never disappoints, still relatively easy to find down under. Very informative vid... thanks!!
Awesome! Thank you!
Great video. I have seen some of the distillery reviews that have come after this one. Really glad I found this one when looking at some of your older videos. The more I hear about Four Roses the more I think I need to check them out. I loved that you enjoyed all of the offerings. Yes they got better as you moved along, but even the base bottle was well liked. Wow, $20 for a good entry level from a well known distillery. The $65 bottle sounded really good and is priced much lower than bottles I've seen you review that you didn't like. Excellent, excellent watch. Thank you!
Hey there! As a beginning bourbon drinker (much more of a tequila guy), I just wanted to thank you for this channel! I've learned so much watching you guys and enjoy the chemistry between you and Trenton. As a newbie, I really love the Four Roses Small Batch! I look forward to "graduating" to the other varieties someday.
For a show idea, have you guys considered doing a blind test with someone you trust (a friend or family member) who's new to bourbon? I think it would be interesting (and entertaining) to see how their taste pallettes differ from those of experienced bourbon drinkers such as yourself. 😁
I enjoyed this video and thanks for showcasing a bourbon that I have not had in a very long time. I’ll have to give Four Roses a try
Hope you love it!
We loved the Single Barrel!! Great bourbon, good price, available. Thanks Kurt!!!
Thank you!
Was sipping on my small batch while watching this, Great video!
That’s awesome!
Four roses single barrel is my go to bottle. I keep watching your videos and testing more bottles as I go. So keep making videos!
Thank you!
Over the Christmas holiday, my adult son brought a bottle of Four Roses Single Barrel to our family get together. That was my first time tasting single barrel and it blew me away. It was absolutely incredible - the best bourbon I've tasted.. We drank it neat (and we usually only drink bourbon on the rocks or in a cocktail). I will be buying my own bottle of single barrel next time I go shopping.
Really enjoyed this flight comparison. I love the Four Roses products!!
Me to!
I just grabbed my first bottle of single barrel and all I can say is wow. Absolutely delicious. I will never allow myself to be without.
Love the single bottle reviews as always, but these kind of videos are what many people need. Everyone gravitates towards the single barrels and the fancy bottle and sleeps on the bottom of the rosters. Great video!
Awesome thanks!
Watched several of your videos and Four roses was always suggested in the comments…. Was not disappointed my brother and I loved the single barrel. Will have to try the others.
Good format because so many times when looking at a stores shelf and seeing a well known distiller's complete line-up it can be a bit daunting to select the bottle which suits your personal taste the best, I have and enjoy their Small Batch and Single Barrel but will be adding their basic as a "mixer" for summertime cocktails. Thanks Guys!
Awesome! Appreciate your feedback!
Excellent review! I did the same thing last night and very impressed with the cheaper options.
It was a great time!
Thanks SLB!! I'm really interested in this series you're considering.
I have always really enjoyed 4R Single Barell. It was my very first bourbon purchase when I had no clue about bourbons. I have never had a bad one. On a whim I decided to try 4R Small Batch Select. Maybe it's the non-chill filtration, but I love this bourbon...even a tad better than my long-timed goto single barrel.
Thanks SLB for the comparison tastings!!
Appreciate it! I agree with your assessments!
I love the idea of this video. This is fantastic. I was doing a similar thing with my own collection; KC SBS vs 15, ER vs BT, JD SBS vs HS, etc etc.
The previous 4 Roses Single Barrel I had couldn't compete with the Small Batch but it might have just been that bottle. Wasn't just the Mashbill because I will down some Rye.
Love this. I love the small batch and single barrel. I can find the select. Thanks so much. 4 Roses is overlooked, but one of my favorites.
Love this side by side comparison of the easy to find stuff. I never could find the limited edition one that came out in 2021 but all these are just so good I don’t feel
That bad about not getting that one cheers!
I have only been able to get the 2019 special release. Fabulous. Not very fair or beneficial to include it in a conversation like this.
This was great to see! I bought the cheapest four roses while trying to get into the bourbon hobby and my brother got them the small batch which was great. Now I think I need to hop on the other two at some point!
Glad you enjoyed the video!
Never met a Four Roses expression that I did not like, glad you share my thoughts and validated my point!
Thanks again fellas, this definitely helped me out, I was just at the store and saw they have the basic bottles for 19 and the single barrel for around 45. I’ll definitely be going back soon to add a bottle or two to my bar. ✌️🖖
Kurt, this is a good, quick run through the core of Four Roses. I haven't tried the entry or top offerings, but you've encouraged me to go there.
I'd love to see more of these videos. Certainly, the Wild Turkey core also deserves a full review.
Cheers, Kurt and Trenton!
Going to be a lot of fun!
I am a huge Four Roses fan ! I love the core four lineup. I also love the single barrel / barrel proofs and the limited editions. Great review
Thank you!
I haven't loved the few Four Roses pours that I have had over the years, most were just the Small Batch. Will have to try them again.
4 roses is a specific flavor profile so don’t try to talk yourself into trying to like something you don’t like. Just a suggestion if you decide to try another bottle pick up the single barrel. Also, for me, it seems the longer the bottle is open the better it gets.
Four Roses has always been one of my favorites, in any form. I always have the regular single barrel on hand. It's taken me several years, but I have finally collected all 10 single barrel recipes. Some were acquired during the pandemic when my local bars had to sell some inventory to make ends meet. My favorite recipe that started it all was OBSO. I like the high rye and fruity, light vanilla yeast strain. Thanks for the video ... Four Roses is often overlooked.
Wow what a fabulous collection! I still have yet to find anything but the standard release. Jealous lol
Very much enjoyed this theme; would love to see more with other distilleries/brands. Thanks!
Will do! Thanks!
Picked up the original today. Pretty earthy flavor, and for ~$25 a solid pour. Something you can daily and enjoy without guilt, or introduce to a friend. Looking forward to trying the others in the near future.
Great video! We just got Small Batch Select in our state a few weeks ago- really enjoyable bourbon. One of my favorite bourbons ever tasted is 2019 Four Roses LE Small Batch- still have some and it is incredible every time I have a pour. Cheers!
I have the same bottle! Milking it just like you lol and it’s fantastic! Hoping to find another LE one day.
Another solid video guys, keep up the great work!
Thanks!
Just bought my first bottle of four roses at the state store today. Anxious to try it.
Nice run through of the lineup. We love us the single barrel here and almost always have a backup on hand. Small batch select sounds like one I need to try.
Great bourbons imo!
Just had the same flight of four roses at my local liquor store and like you, I'm getting chocolate at the backend of the single barrel. Lovin your videos!
Thank you!
Excellent video as usual! I have the small batch select right now and although it's very good I think I prefer the single barrel... Although they are almost the same price, $60, in the liquor store I buy from which is kinda crazy.
Excited for a Wild Turkey walk through! Buffalo Trace and Maker's Mark would be interesting as well.
I love the first three four roses with the $20 offering being the first bourbon I ever tried straight. Now you have convinced me to buy the Small Batch select. Can't wait to try it. Great show. Keep em coming.
Hope you love it!
I’ve purchased the single barrel a couple times. I was hesitant to buy the entry level Four Roses but now I am definitely going to try it! The single barrel is amazing stuff.
Excellent Review!!! Single Barrel and Small Batch Select have much love in my house 😊
This is one of my favorite videos to date. I have a special connection with Four Roses. The single barrel was the first bottle that I bought for myself since I have been exploring whiskies. Man, were my eyes opened when I took that first sip. I definitely get the red fruit on the nose like you talk about but I also get a good cinnamon hit on the back end of the palate. Great buy at a fair price point!
Cinnamon is a great tasting note considering the higher rye mash bills!
Awesome Video. Great Concept!!! 4R Single Barrel is an excellent pour and the Small Batch Select is very underrated, I been lucky enough to find it on sales for $50, totally worth it.
Indeed!
Love Four Roses, usually have all 4 on bar. Never had the Yellow until a few years ago in Boston had one of the best old fashion drinks ever and it was made with the $18 Yellow of Four Roses
I have the small batch and the single barrel and I get some of the same notes you described. Great work!
I started off with Makers and then Four Rose's at the beginning of my. Ourbon journey, and I am very fond of the 2. Took tours at both as well and they are by far my favorite tours I've taken. If you get the chance to tour them, it is worth it.
The small batch I recently purchased was quite enjoyable! Fruiter than anticipated! Will buy again.
The only Four Roses that I've tried is Small Batch, and there is almost always a bottle in the cabinet. The SB Select will need a try. It seems that the brand is a good value and fine product.
Small Batch (your second taste) makes one of the best Old Fashioned's I've ever made. Just a flavor profile that blends with the bitters, sugar, cherries, orange...just wonderful!
I bought the small batch select recently and haven't opened it. I was saving it for my birthday since it's coming up in a couple weeks and wanted to try something truly special. For a minute there I felt like I got hosed because 65 bucks is not exactly small change but this video helped regain some confidence. Thanks guys!
Four Roses single barrel has always been my favorite! Love your analysis...
This was great! Look forward to the same with other brands. Keep up the great videos!
Love this style of video. Thanx!
Being new to bourbon, you've provided superb recommendations. Thanks '-)
Single Barrel Store Picks are what I'm looking for now. Four Roses and Knob Creek are at the top of my list.
Select is one of my go to Bourbons. Great show guys!
Thank you!
Really love this video. I have the small batch. I’ll have to try the single barrel next time!
Great!
I'm just getting into Bourbons, and so far, Four Rose's small batch has been my favorite, I prefer it over the single barrel personally. As always great review! Cheers!
New to your channel, been watching all your videos. You guys are great, helping me along my bourbon journey. Big four roses fan
Thanks for joining us!
Four Rose’s is a fantastic and underrated. Single barrel is always on my bar. Thank you for the great videos!
Sooo good!
I'll always have a soft spot for Four Roses it started me on my whiskey journey. Great video guys!
Awesome! Thanks buddy!
I love Four Roses. I remember my Grandfather having a bottle and a Four Roses shot glass in a kitchen cabinet. This was back in the mid 1960s. I just started buying it in the last 2-3 years. I've got a bottle of the 100 proof on my whiskey shopping list. Thanks for your content ❤️
Great story! Thanks for sharing!
Four Roses is always a good choice. I haven't found the single barrel select at my store but will look for it on my nest excursion out of the boonies. Thank you.
Hope you like it!
Great post, thanks 🥃
This is a great idea for a series! I've only ever tried the standard Four Roses and I thought it had a cheap, almost artificial taste. But now I want to try their other bottles. :))
Hope you find one you like!
I’m glad Four Roses is offering a quality product. I remember the brand in the 1980s as a bottom shelf “blended whisky” that was two-thirds vodka.
That is exactly what I thought. I have been avoiding that because of that. Looks like I will have to try them out, especially for the price point.
Really great idea! Loved the review. Looking forward to more distiller reviews. May I suggest Michter's as a candidate? I really love the Sour Mash (if you can find it).
Omg that one is sooo good! Spoiler alert, that bottle is coming up on a show soon!
