One thing I was taken by last march when I went to some Tennessee and Kentucky distilleries was how polite, accommodating, and friendly the staff was at every place we visited. It was a great experience. I wish I would have went years ago.
Agreed! Most of them are pretty cool. I've had one really forgettable experience with awful customer service and one really mediocre, but have visited 15 in Kentucky the past couple of years and nearly all have been great.
I did some starlight picks with Mash and Journey yesterday. That place is amazing. Thanks for showing that. Andrew Jerdonek does a phenomenal job. Ted Huber and his family are top notch people. I’m happy to be only an hour away.
Four roses is one of the most outstanding bourbons I believe My own personal opinion they do wonderful stuff I've got a lot of Ohio single barrel picks to go through but everyone is delicious especially the 12 and 14 years
@@zptwin2 I'm in Ohio so Ohio does a good job with their private select pics anything single barrel barrel strength last year they had some 10-year 6 month bottles plus some almost 12-year-old bottles that came out but they go very very quick people line hours in advance
Was a pleasant surprise to see Peerless Distillery pop up on your barrel pick adventure. A fella I graduated highschool with is a Master Distiller there. Really good guy, they make great stuff...
You could've easily split this video into multiple videos but it's incredible to see the differences between each distillery in the same video. Thanks Brewzle!
Yeah, definitely could have done each pick as it's own video. We have several single location picks shot that will be individual videos. When we shot this, we weren't sure what we'd be able to show and not show so we just did the whole trip as a video.
Glad to see ya doing some barrel picks in my backyard. I'm a huge fan of Hubers finished Ryes and their cigar batch bourbon and ryes are off the charts good.
This was fun to follow. Haven't had the chance to do a barrel pick before so interesting to see how it's handled at different distilleries. I was at Peerless not too far off from your visit (Father's Day weekend), and that brunch barrel pick of theirs was delicious. I only ended up taking a bottle of the absinthe finished whiskey home, though.
@@nick263 I love it but it's not subtle at all, so you definitely need to enjoy the anise flavor. I've been meaning to try it in a sazerac but haven't yet. I love sipping it by the firepit on a summer night, though!
Single Barrel Store Picks is what I'm focusing on now. I've found a number of options including Knob Creek, Angel's Envy, Yellowstone, Wilderness Trail and Peerless. I'm hoping to find Four Roses OESO or OESV store picks in my area. That's where I want to start and if I like them move into the other recipes.
I have got to become a patron. I especially want one of the short barrel picks you talked about in a live stream several weeks ago. I love how quickly you are growing and how down to earth you and your family are. Great job!
Great video. Those barrel picks must be fun we don't get much of that kind of stuff in Canada some of the craft distilleries are doing it now. Starlight seems to be doing some interesting things The manscape add is fantastic 13:15
Love your videos, but your Manscaped sponsored ad was just fantastic. I normally skip through in video ad's but couldn't do it for this one. They need to keep you on as a full time as a sponsor. Keep up the awesome content and love what you are doing with Spillway. Great guys over there - Makes me wish I lived closer to their store! Hoping to grab a bottle of the next store pick you drop with them!
That looks like a lot of fun. Without tasting, i would have gone south the Fruity notes and not the herbal notes on the Four Roses pick. I hace only tried one barrel pick and it's OESV at 9+ years. I really like it. 👍
So happy to see you at Starlight. I live near the distillery and Andrew is a good friend and my neighbor. Glad you all had a blast and got to enjoy some indiana stuff.
Some of the most enjoyable moments I've had with whiskey is tasting out of a barrel right in the rickhouse. Will check in the whiskey wasteland surrounding Troy, AL to see if I can find a bottle or two of Starlight. They look like my kind of people. Cheers,
You're video inspired me to look into barrel picks. I just convinced my local rod and gun club to do a selection and we were able to get a date at starlight. Cannot wait to check out the distillery in a few months.
Man this looks like fun. I love the Starlight Rickhouse store picks I’ve gotten… would love to visit this place! Can’t wait to jump On those picks you made! Man I wish I lived near Spillway would love to jump on a Willett! You have the clout they are just silly at Peerless!
I subscribe when you give the redemption rye an honest review, it is delicious in an old fashion with a couple of dashes of bitters. I already like the video and you try other things so try it.
I have watched plenty of your videos. I finally subscribed, you have lots of good content. Keep it up! Fun to see your insights into the whiskey business.
man,, i never liked alcohol,, i drank maybe 2 or 3 times in mine life,, most of them are disquisting,, but when i see you drink,, you make it look so tasty,,
If you want a super duper weird whiskey, and want a full barrel, here in Finland there is a distillery that does those. They're called Teerenpeli distillery, you can pick your own barrel and they make it custom. Their distillate is awesome, they use the same suppliers for products that all the best scottish distilleries of yesteryear used. Like same malts and all that. They have custom-built scottish style stills and everything. They have even done custom things that are kinda sacrilege for long time customers, like my dad that had a I think half-barrel of whiskey flavoured with Terva, or Tar as you call it. It's super awesome, but very overwhelming.
Wait until you go to heaven Hill if you haven't already been there they take you inside of one of the brand new Rick houses and you get to experience the whole thing I took a 360 view picture from the floor to the ceiling of the barrels and everyone thinks it's absolutely awesome so if you get in there get your phone out and do the 360 camera that takes multiple pictures you won't be disappointed I'm having mine put on a wall
I'd really love it if you could one day get out to Denver and visit Leopold Bros. They are treating their whiskey like scotch. They're floor malting in-house, have an triple column distillation process that runs hotter and slower than a continuous still. They talk a big game and their whiskey brings in a huge price tag. I'd love to know if they're worth the hype.
You get any insight on the per bottle cost for Willett? A 10yr Rye was dropped at a local store for $400. A lot were upset, while the store claimed that's the lowest they could do for their own margins
Planning a Kentucky trip soon. What distilleries are the best to hit for distillery exclusives? Probably won't have time for tours but would love to get some bottles I can't find other places.
make sure you plan to be there an hour to two before they open to get the exclusive bottles, i recommend going to Heaven Hill for a full proof pint of elijah and the evan williams tour in downtown louisville has a lot you can only buy in that building
One of the coolest bourbon videos I’ve see, learned a lot, thanks for it! Honest question, no hate here, @peerless , what’s the point of a store pick that is so similar to what they are already offering as their own pick? Can’t you just get it from them? Is it more about local availability ?
These barrels can vary WILDLY. You want something different from the normal release so it's interesting to those that buy these picks. However, if you are a store that only has local buyers that may not be really into bourbon, then you run the risk of it being too different and folks not wanting to buy it. So, just because folks that are "whiskey nerds" love it, doesn't mean the general public will. In my case I just buy what's most interesting to me (or the group that goes with me to do the pick) because that's what most of y'all that watch these will want as well.
