The professionalism on display here is staggering. Watched to the end despite it being something I'm unlikely to participate in. Great video. Oooh, and Sara - looking particularly fetching in that t-shirt 😃 thank you!
I went to Woodford Reserve, the place is spectacular! They let me try it before they put it in the barrel, plus I got to taste every different bourbon they make. It was a cool experience.
Woodinville Whiskey last year hosted an event at the distillery where the customer got to sample from three separate barrels and bottle at cask strength their own personal bourbon. It was amazing.
Great video! Looks like a lot of fun. In the wine cellar of France, after we tasted the wine poured directly from the barrel, anything that we couldn't finish will get poured back straight into the barrel. I was like, "wait, it's got my saliva and all." They couldn't careless. It's nice to know that someone tasted my saliva, and I've tasted someone else's! Would love to try one of these barrel picks one day.
Cardinal_Sins Good Morning!... I’ve been trying to contact the AZ BS for info on your group but I don’t have instagram or facebook. Is there any other way to get more info on your group? Thanks!
Love your guys show I’m the President of a newer club up here in MN called the Minnesota Whisky Fanatics. We’re actually planning our first Barrel pick and this video was a great help. Thank you for being a great source of info.
This was such an amazing, informative, and knowledgeable video. Thank you for taking the time to put it together. Makes me want to have a Bourbon, but it is only 1:22 pm here in South Korea ;)
Great video Chad and Sara. Well done and learned a lot. I never knew the buffalo trace bottle I have with the sticker was a barrel pick. pretty cool stuff.
Great video! I’m a member of a small whiskey club in NE Kansas that can’t run to Kentucky to pick a barrel, so we had Knob Creek send a sample of three barrels to choose from. The sample kit includes the limestone water Beam uses to cut it down to 60% in order to approximate what the battle will taste like. We have a liquor store owner in our club that worked with his distributor to make this happen. We can’t wait for our first bottles this fall of 14 year old Knob Creek! Keep up the great work Chad & Sara!
Knob Creek single barrel is my absolute favorite bourbon, even more than I've enjoyed pappy, and the most recent George T Stagg. I am very envious that you've been to a barrel pick of Knob Creek. This is most certainly a bucket list thing for me to do. Thank you very much for the great info on this!
the only one i went to was New Riff. it was an incredible experience, my brother invited me because i live like ten minutes from the distillary and the rick house. I live in taylor mill kentucky. even though they are a new operation they are very very professional and Patrick, our guide was really down to earth and treated us right. Tasting for final selection was done in an amazing room with old brick and chandaleers everywhere. it was a great experiece overall... highly reccommended.
very cool video :) i hope one day in my future i would be in the position to do a barrel pick, seems like the ultimate experience for whiskey enthusiasts
Did a Knob Creek rye barrel pick with the Frankfort Bourbon Society last August. Great opportunity! Hope to do another one again this year. We are able to do one a year as a member in FBS.
I have watched almost all of your videos within a few days and have gone out and found several bottles I very much enjoy because of your information! Thanks guys!
Guys, can you clear up a memory I have? Way too long ago I worked for ATF and did work in distilleries when the Treasury still controlled the facilities (govt locked bonded warehouses). I remember them routinely consolidating barrels. They would pull barrels from the racks and to address the loss due to the angel's share, they would dump a few barrels to a tank then top off the rest of them and then continue aging. It makes sense because it restores the amount of whiskey contact to the barrel. Have you ever witnessed that in your tours or had that process explained by the distillers?
Bill Meck Hey, Bill! No, we haven’t heard of that before but that’s super interesting and we’ll add that one to our list of things to ask when we get in front of distillers and so forth. We would love to know about it!
Recently went on the tour and tasting at Jack Daniel's in Lynchburg TN. Had a very good experience. They also do barrel picking. Highly recommend their distillery
WOW! So many questions answered! Wonderful job. It just makes me want to find a way to get involved in a barrel pick! Is there "It's Bourbon Night" exclusive barrel pick in our future? ;)
Great vid, guys. I got to go on a pseudo barrel pick at 3 Boys last year, and it is a hoot. The difference between some barrels of the same sauce can be amazing. I'd love to go on a real pick some time. Besides the fact that I love being in rickhouses.
I have two barrel pick Knob Creek a Rye @115% and a Bourbon at 120%. I don't know much but that bourbon is HOT but really really vanilla-y. That rye makes an outstanding Old Fashioned. Made the mistake of getting an 86 proof rye from Wild Turkey. Should have held out for the 101 rye. After the KC it just tastes watery. I would have never said that even six months ago lol. Thanks for sharing your experience. The description that my local store that carries these barrel pick was pretty cool but actually seeing it here was even better. Been watching a few of your vids and this one leads me to sub. Thanks again!
Love this video! Very well done and informative. I am sure this took a long time to put together and I appreciate all of your time that went into making this. Look forward to many more from Chad and Sara. Cheers from Delaware!
Very interesting to see the differences in all the distilleries! Especially for a newbie trying to figure out what a store pick is lol! Thanks guys, subscribed 🤘🏻
thanks for the tips. very helpful if I ever get the chance. maybe I'll be able to convenience my wife that it is Disneyworld for bourbon drinkers. Gotta try. lol. so do they let you take in extra glasses? you mentioned it but never said if you ever took to other tasting. thanks and cheers
Another outstanding video! My wife and I really enjoy your reviews. Wishing we could find a fine lady like Sara for our soon to be 19 year old son. Kentucky girls much nicer than Michigan girls.
I know it’s not the same, but for those of us that don’t live next door (i’m jealous), certain distilleries will ship you tasting samples for barrel purchase when you’re not present.
Just found this video and really enjoyed the process! You two are great at the details and enjoyed the pros and cons! I’ve only been in the game for about three months now and I’m fortunate to have a local store that has about ten picks on the counter. I picked up the Sagamore Rye, Knob Creek, Woodford dbl oak, and the Elijah Craig! Contemplating on the Jack Daniel’s?
Funny enough I found myself buying a few "specialty" bottles. I bought a Makers Mark that was a select from a local Liquor Store chain that my brother. It's certainly put the idea in my head to see if I can somehow go on a tasting through them at some point. ;)
Yeah, I was wondering if Sara was saying (14:40) that they'll only bottle it at normal proof, or if you could actually buy the barrel and they'll bottle it at barrel proof for you?!
Fun video. Just a suggestion those "it's Bourbon Nite" bar napkins would be very cool merch, hint hint. Cheers Oh and Sarah you look great in that shirt.
Hey guys great video! I would like to know what camera you use to film with. The color and clarity are awesome and it doesn't hunt focus like DSLRs tend to do.
So when I finally get to go on a barrel pick, bring spare glasses, a container to put the leftover samples (Infinity Bottle of samples??) , and some snacks?
Ok, thanks for this info. Love taking distillery and brewery tours, but not sure why someone would want to do a barrel pick except for the fun of it. Or is that just it?
This was a GREAT video, really a home run. One thing that you touched but didn't get into was the price of the pick. You said how much it was for the barrel but not the price to pick. Can we get a ball park if there is an admission fee, or are you going on the generosity of whomever is buying the barrel?
alan D For the bar or store, from what I understand, the price is all rolled into the price of the barrel. So there's not an addition fee and then the price of buying the barrel, for example.
I'm starting to wonder if a Master Distiller orders barrels made from wood from different parts of the country to get different flavor profiles? I'm sure a barrel from a wood from NY would taste different from a tree which grew in GA.
The professionalism on display here is staggering. Watched to the end despite it being something I'm unlikely to participate in. Great video. Oooh, and Sara - looking particularly fetching in that t-shirt 😃 thank you!
Aqvavitae Thank you for the kind words, Roy!
creepy
Roy absolutely concur, Sara can be the poster girl for your shirts. Love my shirt from Aquavitae, will need to have a bourbon night sort soon!!
@@donfromcanada4467 dude... she's wearing the OP's brand. Not creepy.
I went to Woodford Reserve, the place is spectacular! They let me try it before they put it in the barrel, plus I got to taste every different bourbon they make. It was a cool experience.
I will NEVER grow tired of either of you. You were first, and you remain my favorite.
Woodinville Whiskey last year hosted an event at the distillery where the customer got to sample from three separate barrels and bottle at cask strength their own personal bourbon.
It was amazing.
Great video! Looks like a lot of fun. Barrel proof store picks are always awesome.
It was amazing doing a pick with Eddie! Cheers from Arizona Bourbon Society!
Cardinal_Sins Good Morning!... I’ve been trying to contact the AZ BS for info on your group but I don’t have instagram or facebook. Is there any other way to get more info on your group? Thanks!
Extremely well done video! I enjoyed seeing how each different distillery helped select that special barrel!
I've been a fan for a long time, but this video proves that becoming a Patreon is well over due. Loved the video. Great content and supremely fun!
SheFlungDung Thank you!!
Love your guys show I’m the President of a newer club up here in MN called the Minnesota Whisky Fanatics. We’re actually planning our first Barrel pick and this video was a great help. Thank you for being a great source of info.
Awesome, happy to help! Let us know how your first pick goes!
Sounds like it’s happening in August with new riff so I thought the T-shirt was a funny coincidence but absolutely will let you know.
Wild Turkey and 1792 barrel pick experience sound the best. Doing a Russell's Reserve barrel pick with Eddie Russell is on my bucket list.
That was great. Thanks so much. We're going Oct. 20 -24 to tour about. Not buying any barrels but you got me psyched nonetheless.
This was such an amazing, informative, and knowledgeable video. Thank you for taking the time to put it together. Makes me want to have a Bourbon, but it is only 1:22 pm here in South Korea ;)

Absolutely loved this episode…other channels just focusing on tasting whisky, you too are taking it to other areas, keep at it love it !!
Fantastic video, guys. I've wondered about the barrel pick process for a while now and this was super helpful!

Awesome info, Heading to Buffalo Trace on Monday and this was very helpful
Did a Knob Creek rye barrel pick with the Frankfort Bourbon Society last August. Great opportunity! Hope to do another one again this year. We are able to do one a year as a member in FBS.
I really haven't heard a con. It sounds like a good time. Would love to do it one day. On my bucket list.
I have watched almost all of your videos within a few days and have gone out and found several bottles I very much enjoy because of your information! Thanks guys!
Thanks a lot guys! Tons of good info and as always very well done. You’re the best!
This is a great informative video. Great job guys.
just caught this ep and it's so awesome. simple solution to "dumping" whisky...bring some sample bottles!

This is just exactly what I wanted to see! Thanks a bunch!
Seriously your best video
Recently went on the tour and tasting at Jack Daniel's in Lynchburg TN. Had a very good experience. They also do barrel picking. Highly recommend their distillery
@smoking joe I agree
Not a fan
Fantastic. You have been ‘working’ this since 2016. Yum!
Neat video, barrel picking was not quite what I thought, if I'm ever able I think I'm going Wild Turkey. Or Buffalo Trace. Or...
WOW! So many questions answered! Wonderful job. It just makes me want to find a way to get involved in a barrel pick! Is there "It's Bourbon Night" exclusive barrel pick in our future? ;)
Mitch Maglio We would LOVE that!
Love it! Unlikely that I’ll have a chance to go on a barrel pick but everyone has to have dreams. It sounds amazing. Thank you.
Great job! Thanks Sara. Thanks Chad. :)
Another great video! Entertaining and informative. Keep up the good work. Cheers from Scotland.

I almost felt like I was there! Well produced! Enjoyed this immensely!
I'd absolutely love to do one! Sounds like such a fun experience!
Such a great video! The clowning on Perry was a highlight, lol
He seemed to be included just to seem as doofy as possible, which is very on brand for him (meant in good fun, it's part of his charm).
I have two barrel pick Knob Creek a Rye @115% and a Bourbon at 120%. I don't know much but that bourbon is HOT but really really vanilla-y. That rye makes an outstanding Old Fashioned. Very well made and informative video, folks. Y'all killed it. You guys have improved SO much compared to where you started from. Congrats!
Love this video! Very well done and informative. I am sure this took a long time to put together and I appreciate all of your time that went into making this. Look forward to many more from Chad and Sara.
Cheers from Delaware!
Don McClure Thanks, Don! Cheers from Kentucky!
Well done. Extremely thorough.
Great video. I love bourbon and learned a lot watching this video. Thank you for sharing.
One of your best videos yet! Great comparison of the different barrel pick experiences!
My love for the Master Distiller at 4:40 knows no slurring bound... he's wasted..but held it together..
Nice seeing the New Riff gear!
Very interesting to see the differences in all the distilleries! Especially for a newbie trying to figure out what a store pick is lol! Thanks guys, subscribed 🤘🏻

This is really cool. Hopefully one day I will find my way into friends that do this stuff.
I would love to go tasting straight from the barrel, Im jealous!
Very well done. Congrats
Another outstanding video! My wife and I really enjoy your reviews. Wishing we could find a fine lady like Sara for our soon to be 19 year old son. Kentucky girls much nicer than Michigan girls.

This episode was awesome. Well done guys!
Very informative! Sounds like a great experience!
I got a barrel select Antique Weller still waiting for a day to open it.
Funny enough I found myself buying a few "specialty" bottles. I bought a Makers Mark that was a select from a local Liquor Store chain that my brother. It's certainly put the idea in my head to see if I can somehow go on a tasting through them at some point. ;)
Excellent! I have never seen a video on this. Very informative. Thanks🙂
Awesome video guys! You should post a tutorial video on how you made that awesome bourbon bottle light fixture the bg! Would love to make one!
Fantastic video keep it up guys!
Great video. Thanks. Love whiskey and was curious what the hype was on store picks and barrel picks. Also what the difference is. Thanks again!
You’re very welcome!
I thought you said Barrel Pig!!! 😂😂😂 Whew! I’m very glad I was wrong!
Love the videos!! Keep up the great work.
"it's alot of interesting stuff" I feel that guy.
Very cool vid you two!
Awesome! Was wondering if you got a little buzz on or not!
You need to try "Garrison Brothers" Small Batch Bourbon's in Hye, Texas.
Would really like to try some cask strength Buffalo Trace. Wonder what the ABV is coming out of the barrel.
Yeah, I was wondering if Sara was saying (14:40) that they'll only bottle it at normal proof, or if you could actually buy the barrel and they'll bottle it at barrel proof for you?!
Excellent video!
Definitely learned something. Very Interesting indeed.
Excellent info!
Awesome video! Loved ir, many thanks. One question, you also get the barrel you've signed or 'only' the bottles?
Fun video. Just a suggestion those "it's Bourbon Nite" bar napkins would be very cool merch, hint hint. Cheers Oh and Sarah you look great in that shirt.
Good idea ;)
Hey guys great video! I would like to know what camera you use to film with. The color and clarity are awesome and it doesn't hunt focus like DSLRs tend to do.
Steve Cunningham Thanks! We use a Canon 5D mkIII and 6D mkII with a 24-105mm and a 85mm prime.
Nice equipment.
bring a flask and a funnel for when you empty your glass
Pro: great video! Con: now I really want to do this $$$.
So when I finally get to go on a barrel pick, bring spare glasses, a container to put the leftover samples (Infinity Bottle of samples??) , and some snacks?
that wild turkey bloke was sloshed
UKFskateboarding he loves his product!
Nice informative episode. Great job.. what happens to the actual Barrel? Do you have the option to purchase that since they can only use it one time?
Ok, thanks for this info. Love taking distillery and brewery tours, but not sure why someone would want to do a barrel pick except for the fun of it. Or is that just it?
Great video!
We have a Kansas City Whiskey Society, haven't seen any just bourbon ones around here
Great video! Makes me a little jealous
Great video guys!
Was reminded by Perry of this video. "Its a lot of interesting stuff" hahahahaha
GREAT VIDEO!!!
I find your videos, so interesting.
Really interesting episode!
Sarah good review fun video
its funny when the video is playing in some parts it looks like Chad has a Bourbon Night Tattoo XD!!!!
This was a GREAT video, really a home run. One thing that you touched but didn't get into was the price of the pick. You said how much it was for the barrel but not the price to pick. At Four Roses were you able to try all different recipe combos?
Who was sent by Daniel and Rex?
I'm starting to wonder if a Master Distiller orders barrels made from wood from different parts of the country to get different flavor profiles? I'm sure a barrel from a wood from NY would taste different from a tree which grew in GA.
Binnys has the BT with the copper pick sticker, but it's Small Batch.. not Single Barrel. Niiicccee try Binnys.
