I like both of you lineups for sure, some great picks on both sides. But if I had to fall off the log, I’m going with Kurt’s. If I could swing one bottle from Trenton’s side over to Kurt’s though it would be that New Riff.
Hey vanguard! 👋 have you had any of the castle and key distillers? I'm not sure what you are into but they just released their burbon, and I happen to get their #1 batch from my local specs. Good stuff. 👍🏼
both great lists. I lean more towards Trenton's because Larceny, KC9, and Early Times are a regular part of my rotation. That said I love OF 1910 and MM Cask strength. I also keep a Prudent Pappy blend handy - Makers Mark Cask Strength + Larceny 2:1 ratio.
First of all, I am a drinker, not a collector. Ten of those bottles have passed thru my bar except the Maker’s Mark and the New Riff. I was able to snag an Early Times just last month. And I would buy each of those 10 again. OF100 would be my current daily drinker but has disappeared from the area. The only change I would make, if it was widely available, would be the Evan Williams Single Barrel in place of the BiB. A good reminder to pick up an OG 114, when I have space available. Great video again!
This was a great video and I honestly think you both hit a home run with your picks. If I were forced to pick one or the other I give an ever so slight nod to Kurt on this one. Cheers 🥃
I have to go with Trenton on this one, here in upstate NY Buffalo Trace is pocket change south of $50 and Evan Williams white label is something I keep on hand for company not for myself. I do however like the backend on Kurts with the MMCS with I mix with MM46, Four Roses SB "absolutely delicious" and the double oak Old Forester 1910 priced well under the Woodford Reserve DO. Trenton is spot on with the OG 114, how do you beat a cask strength for $28.99? and the Old Forester "signature" 100 proof over the way over price Old Forester Whiskey Row Series: 1897 Bottled in Bond. Watching this video actually cost me $50.75 because I just got back from the liquor store with a bottle of New Riff Single Barrel barrel proof. The only bottle sitting on the bar (as of now) that I dont or have never had is the Early Times. great picks on both sides, you guys knocked it out of the park once again! 🥃Cheers!
Love your videos. I am fairly new to bourbon. I have been a makers drinker for years but recently started discovering all the wonderful choices out there. Good choices by both but I would lean towards Kurt’s selection. My 6 would be wild Turkey 101, knob creek 9, larceny, four roses SIB, Russell’s 10, and Elijah Craig small batch.
Couldn't agree more with both of your picks. Great $400 starter bar. Here in Michigan just like Rare Breed our prices have all went up @ $5 a 750 for everything.
Great run down! I was a little curious as to why Kurt did not include Elijah Craig Small Batch as that was the bottle that got him into bourbon in the first place. The same was true for me.
My 5....makers mark, larceny, Jim beam black, know creek, Woodford reserve, copper craft, 1910 and Buffalo Trace. Not sure on costs but I like those. Makers mark is my go to right now
Great video guys. I enjoyed both lists. I have to say I own most of the bottles on Kurt’s list already. Wish Russell’s Reserve 10 year would have made the cut. It’s a great bottle!!!
This List is FANTASTIC... I have had all if these. My list: Old Forester 100 Old Forester 1910 - Sipping Now Early Times - Daily Drinker Neat Four Roses - Love this Distillery Old Grandad 114 - Great Mixer Wild Turkey 101 - Nuff Said New Riff - Live in Cincy... GREAT NEW DISTILLERY... Great List of top 12 affordable Bourbons...
You guys are a kick! Both lists are awesome but I have to go with Trenton on this one. I have them all and the New Riff is fantastic! Thank you for the great video. Very entertaining and this makes our bourbon journey so much fun!
I'll go with Trenton on this one. The OGD 114 and the Knob Creek are my go to choices. I haven't seen the 114 in my area in over 6 months. I do like the 1910.
Two great lists! A tough choice, but I have to go with Trenton's picks mainly because I've had all those except New Riff, plus Early Times has slightly edged-out WT101 as my current fave. I also love OGD114, KC and OF100. I haven't tried EW BIB or OF1910 yet. After reading comments and seeing so many good ones about New Riff, I'll be trying that one soon. Love your videos and your interaction with one another. Thanks and Happy New Year, gentlemen!
I’ve been to new riffs distillery a few times and all of their bourbons are great. I was blown away by the single barrel rye and malted single barrel my friend and I purchased
My recommendations would be: 1) Evan Williams BIB - $16 2) Buffalo Trace - $25 3) Larceny - $25 4) OGD 114 - $31 5) WT Rare Breed - $45 6) Maker’s Mark 46 CS - $58 You get two wheaters (daily and cask strength). Two low rye bourbons (daily and cask strength). A high rye bourbon (OGD) and a malt bourbon (EW BIB). Plus, distillery variation between Heaven Hill, Wild Turkey, Maker’s Mark, Buffalo Trace and Jim Beam.
Thanks for this show! Y'all are great. I've been drinking bourbon for the past 15+ years, but mostly from the same distillery (Woodinville Whiskey in WA). Since I started watching your show I have expanded my "collection"... thanks to you guys. So the 'better collection' for this show is Trenton... his list has the most number of bottles that I'd l'd like to get, that I haven't tried yet.
Have to go with Trenton on this one. Larceny, Knob Creek 9 and Old Grandad 114 are all Yummy. Never had the New Riff so will have to find a bottle. Not a fan of Early Times, but don't know if Ive ever tried the BiB version. Kurt's is a good list as well, but I don't care for Makers or WT much. Haven't had Evan Williams since college days and only drank it then because it was cheap. Although BT, Four Roses and the 1910 are all awesome choices.
I too stopped drinking Evan after college but a few years ago, tried it again. I was pleasantly surprised how good it is for the money and consider it a solid choice for a common sipper.
Hey guys great lists! Have to give a slight edge to Kurt's. Didn't appreciate how hard it would be to stay in that $200 range, my list.. Evan Williams bottle and bond - $15 Knob creek 9 - $21 Buffalo Trace - $25 4 roses single barrel - $41 Russels reserve single barrel - $68 Russels 10yr - $30 Although I'd get rid of the 4 roses and Knob and just do 5 to get old Forester 1910 in there
I am like 3 months into my collection and have all of those except the Early Times BiB. I would lean towards Trenton picks just so I have to fine the Early Times. Cheers 🥃
I have not tried and/or cannot find BT, ET Bib, New Riff or OG 114 so I’d give the nod to Kurt mainly because there are three on Trenton’s list I have not tried. My list would be EW 1783 SB, Old Grand Dad BiB, WT 101, Makers Cask Strength, Woodford DO and Old Forrester 1910. Love this channel. Thanks!
I just started my bourbon collection and have several of each of yours. Went with Buillet 10 year for my splurge and still trying to find early time BB here in Central Missouri.
I live in Pennsylvania where liquor selection is still controlled by the state. Many options you show are not available. I need to travel out of state to find. I enjoy your videos. Keep it up. Thanks Dan
Gotta go with Trenton's lineup. Knob Creek, OF 100, and GD 114 is always on my shelf. Love Kurt's picks, but the Maker's Cask is not my favorite. People sleep on the Evan Williams BiB so I'm glad to see that up there. Keep up the good work gentlemen.
Kurt has my vote, only because I have access to more of his options and he wasn't afraid to pull big bourbon makers mark out...most people don't like the big guy on the block, but good is good
I like these kind of lists and these are all good picks . I think there should be a set of rules. No allocated bourbon ( buffalo trace products) A daily drinker A mixer A wheater A rye A cast strength My
Curt's priced out at $220 on the VA ABC website. I couldn't do Trenton's because we don't get New Riff, but it looks to be about $55, so assuming that would be our price, Curt's would have been $207 in VA. We get ripped off somewhat here without any competition. Love your show!
New subscriber here, and new to bourbon. I've been binge watching all your videos. Tried watching other channels, but keep coming back to you guys. I feel like I'm there with you, at an uncles house! Cheers!
Gotta go with Trenton on this one, I've only had 2 off of each of your lists (Wild Turkey and Buffalo Trace/Larceny and Early Times) Larceny and Early Times are the only 2 I've re-purchased, those will both be staples in my collection.
WT101, KC9, OF100, EWBiB, Woodford Double Oak, WT Rare breed. Out of your lists I would say Kurt is the winner. Although buffalo trace is tough to get, early times is also equally tough.
Two solid selections 👍🏻 My $200 intro bourbon collection would be Knob Creek 9yr, Early Times Bottle-in-Bond, Woodford Reserve Double Oaked, Maker’s Mark 46, Wild Turkey 101, and Old Grand-Dad 114……total cost $196 😁
Really liking your list, we live about 3 miles from the Old Grand Dad and Buffalo Trace distilleries, and my wife grew up less than 10 miles from the Makers Mark distillery. To make it more nationwide maybe add a Jack Daniels and Still Austin whiskey. Another option is for dropping to 3 bourbons/whiskeys, and adding some beer and mixed drink ingredients. My wife had butterfingers for New Years Eve, a sugar bomb for an everyday drinker, but fine for special occasions with Bailey's Irish Cream, Kahlua and butterscotch schnapps for a low price compared to most bourbon prices. That one time use only oak barrel and 4 plus aging years jumps the price, maybe go to Gatlinburg and try the Ole Smoky brand moonshine and whiskeys with less expensive rules, their tastings include a coupon for money off at their store.
I agree with most of your selections. I haven't tried some, so I can't knock them. I have the Buffalo Trace (both the standard bottles and 2 different Store Picks), Old Forester 1910, Makers Mark Cask Strength (Plus the 46 Cask Strength), Wild Turkey 101, Knob Creek (3 different Store Picks), Old Forester 100 and the New Riff Single Barrel (both the standard bottle and 2 Store Picks) in my collection. I love them all.
Im with Jory, you can now get a nice collection for $400... well done indeed.... I was going to put down some bottles, but you have done very well. If I had to pick, would go with Trenton. The only reason is Kurts bottles - all 6 of them, you can go into any bar and see them. Trentons, has a little more diversity.
Great video and showed a lot of thought. I have 7 of these in my rotation (the others aren't available where I am). I might have snuck a Woodford Reserve Double Oaked into my top five but OF 1910 is very very close. My six: Buffalo Trace, Four Roses Single Barrel, WRDO, WT Rare Bred, Four Roses Small Batch, and New Riff Single Barrel.
I just started this weekend before finding this video. I spent about $90. I bought Wild Turkey 101, Bulleit, and Buffalo Trace. I haven't had a chance to sample them yet but im off tomorrow. Looking forward to it. Love the content. Just subbed!
I love New Riff - the single barrel is about $45 and I drink it neat. The BIB is $35 and I like it in Manhattans. Both are high rye mash bills. Good choices, except for Makers. It made my bottom of 5 different wheaters, by far. I really like the Old Elk but it is pricey. For $30 Bernheim is a great wheater.
great selections on both parts, good spread of various distilleries. I can't decide who's is better! I have all but the last 3 in my collection. control state is not easy to find a lot of options.
My list; Balconies Texas blue corn bourbon, iron wolf Select bourbon, Ranger Creek .36 Texas straight bourbon, Herman Marshall Texas Bourbon whiskey, Treaty Oak Ghost Hill Texas Bourbon Whiskey, yellow rose outlaw bourbon whiskey.
Great idea for a post and I love watching your content. I think a little combo of both would be nice. I think Larceny, Knob Creek, Wild Turkey 101, Old Grand-Dad 114, Four Roses Single Barrel, Old Forester 1910. A couple that could have fit in there are 1792 and maybe Elijah Craig Small Batch. Here in California, Early Times is never available, New Riff on and off and Makers Cask also infrequent. Buffalo Trace is abundant though. Again thank you for your channel. 👍🥃
Kurt’s list is more up my alley. But I’m also a WT fan and truly enjoy 4roses single barrel. The only one I’ve yet to have is OF1920. Need to change that soon.
I can't argue with any of these selections. Kurt, I applaud you for including OF 1910 as your splurge pick. So sweet and easy-drinking. I have never been able to find Buffalo Trace in my area. I recently found one in the wild, but the store required two other purchases, bringing the total for a 750 ml bottle (plus unwanted additions) to $90. I passed. I've also noticed Wild Turkey Rare Breed getting more difficult to find lately in my area. I'm hoping this is a temporary situation.
Great list, fellas! I think I'd have to throw Woodford Double Oaked on there maybe in place of New Riff for the same price point but 90% of these are mainstays in my cabinet. Cheers!
Trentons picks line up almost exactly with the first bourbons I ever bought (I subst old forester 1920 and OGD BiB) so I have to give him the nod. I do agree with the comments about 4 roses though. Love it myself. Buffalo trace is tough to find around here and I've never seen Early Times on the shelf.
Late to the game but here’s 5 I’d start with for under $250 (had to up it what can I say) in my area: 1. Redwood Empire Pipe Dream - $32 2. Woodford Double Oak - $52 3. Pikesville Rye - $45 4. Wild Turkey Rare Breed - $47 5. Russell’s Reserve Single - $60
Kurt is my winner! Buffalo Trace, Wild Turkey 101 and Four Roses Single Barrel are my absolute favorites, along with Larceny...so in my count Kurt has 4 that I am familiar with and Trenton has 2. All are good and I will try to fill out my collection with the missing bottle FROM BOTH SIDES!!
I’ve just gotten into bourbon again like two or so months ago. Three of your guys picks are already in my selection. Knob Creek, Old Forrester 100 and four roses. Not a single barrel sadly. And I’ve already been wanting to grab some Buffalo trace of course. It’s available in my area but just picked others for the time being. Really wanna try larceny and new riff. But all of your guys choices will definitely be a pick of mine over the next couple months. Love the page and your videos.
Both are great list…we never see Ol Riff in my part of Texas so have to go with Kurt…fair warning to new bourbon hounds- OGD 114 n Early Times BIB are making so many list that they are almost like allocated here, also same with Buffalo Trace unfortunately. But great guidance from you both!
It was close, but the 1910 sealed the deal. I was leaning that way anyway because of the Buffalo Trace and Four Roses. Up here in NJ a $200 price range doesn't get you much. Good job guys. This was entertaining.
This turned into a $400 introduction collection with zero overlap. Well done.
I was just thinking the same thing. 😂

Price point is probably what kept Elijah Craig off the list.
I would take Russels reserve over makers or turkey 101
This List is FANTASTIC... I have had all if these.
My list:
Old Forester 100
Old Forester 1910 - Sipping Now
Early Times - Daily Drinker Neat
Four Roses - Love this Distillery
Old Grandad 114 - Great Mixer
Wild Turkey 101 - Nuff Said
New Riff - Live in Cincy...
I'm with Kurt. Love the WT101, Four Roses Single Barrel and Maker's Mark Cask Strength. I also think OGD 114 will be way too harsh for beginners.
My recommendations would be:
1) Evan Williams BIB - $16
2) Buffalo Trace - $25
3) Larceny - $25
4) OGD 114 - $31
5) WT Rare Breed - $45
6) Maker’s Mark 46 CS - $58
You get two wheaters (daily and cask strength). Two low rye bourbons (daily and cask strength). A high rye bourbon (OGD) and a malt bourbon (EW BIB). Plus, distillery variation between Heaven Hill, Wild Turkey, Maker’s Mark, Buffalo Trace and Jim Beam.
I was holding a bottle of Evan Williams bonded in a whisky shop in England yesterday. It was priced £37 ($44.65)
I live about a mile from WWC. When family comes to town, it's one of the first places they want to stop.
You could do a lot worse than drink Woodinville exclusively. Incredible whiskey - especially for the money!! The port finish is 🔥
Have to go with Trenton on this one.
Evan Williams bottle and bond - $15
Knob creek 9 - $21
Buffalo Trace - $25
4 roses single barrel - $41
Russels reserve single barrel - $68
Russels 10yr - $30
Although I'd get rid of the 4 roses and Knob and just do 5 to get old Forester 1910 in there
I am like 3 months into my collection and have all of those except the Early Times BiB.
Thanks!
Love a lot of Trenton's pick in this video! New Riff Single Barrel is special!
Keep it up.
Thanks
Dan
My first three I got for my collection was Cleveland bourbon/whiskey, Buffalo trace and 114
Gotta go with Trenton's lineup. Knob Creek, OF 100, and GD 114 is always on my shelf.
Love Kurt's picks, but the Maker's Cask is not my favorite. People sleep on the Evan Williams BiB so I'm glad to see that up there.
Keep up the good work gentlemen.
Plus ET BiB. Can’t go wrong.
Kurt has my vote, only because I have access to more of his options and he wasn't afraid to pull big bourbon makers mark out...most people don't like the big guy on the block, but good is good
I like these kind of lists and these are all good picks . I think there should be a set of rules.
No allocated bourbon ( buffalo trace products)
A daily drinker
A mixer
A wheater
A rye
A cast strength
My
Buffaclo Trace is alocated for me and $45. But I have several on my bar. Great daily sipper.
100% agree with Even Williams Bottled-in-bond. It is an awesome mixer!
Cheers!
Gonna have to agree with Kurt’s pick’s considering he has 3/6 bottles that I have compared to Trent’s 1/6. Still some solid picks overall!
I love living in Augusta, Ga. Where Eagle Rare and Buffalo Trace is literally in cases at about every liquor store. ER $39 & BT $25
@@jeffruebens8355 Awesome! I’ll have to give those a try 👍🏻Thanks!
Minus the New Riff, I already own these bottles. Good list gents! And now I have to add New Riff to my collection.
I have to go with Kurt on this one also. He chose several of my go to easy to find and keep on my shelf daily drinkers.
I just started this weekend before finding this video. I spent about $90. I bought Wild Turkey 101, Bulleit, and Buffalo Trace. I haven't had a chance to sample them yet but im off tomorrow. Looking forward to it. Love the content. Just subbed!
New Riff single barrel is really good. I always have Four Roses single barrel and Early Times BiB on my bar.
Great lineups. I prefer Kurt's because that looks like bourbon collection!
I have had 10 of the 12 really nice. I would recommend benchmark 8 small batch 17 bucks great sweet bourbon with Carmel notes made by buffalo trace.
great selections on both parts, good spread of various distilleries. I can't decide who's is better! I have all but the last 3 in my collection. control state is not easy to find a lot of options.
My first bourbon was Turkey 101 and it's still my go-to. :-)
Good recommendations. I have Buffalo Trace, WT101, For Roses, Larceny, and Knob Creek 9. My splurge would be WT Rare Breed or OF 1920.
Great video. Kurt for the win.
My list, WT 101, Weller SR, Benchmark Single Barrel, EW BiB, OF 1910, Bardstown Fuson Series
I have all of the bottles on Kurt's list except Russel's Reserve instead of Four Roses. He nailed it!
My list; Balconies Texas blue corn bourbon, iron wolf Select bourbon, Ranger Creek .36 Texas straight bourbon, Herman Marshall Texas Bourbon whiskey, Treaty Oak Ghost Hill Texas Bourbon Whiskey, yellow rose outlaw bourbon whiskey.
I'd say save a little more and go for everything on the counter. Between you two ..... both came up with a top notch selection!!
Awesome video as usual!!! My choices (Ohio Prices): 1) Wild Turkey 101 $24 2) Maker's Mark 46 $35 3) Wild Turkey Rare Breed $46 4) Old Forester 100 Proof $22 5) Woodford Reserve Double Oaked $54 6) Weller Reserve $26 (easy to find in Ohio) 7) Barton 1792 $32. $234 For my starter collection.
Four Roses made the list!!! Awesome!!! I love the finish from the yellow label and single batch!!!
Kurt’s list is more up my alley. But I’m also a WT fan and truly enjoy 4roses single barrel. The only one I’ve yet to have is OF1920. Need to change that soon.
Good call with the 1910. Gotta have a double oaked somewhere in a beginner collection. Woodford double oaked is a solid option as well.
Cheers!
Kurt wins…ONLY because he nailed it with the 1910!! My favorite bourbon ever! Thanks guys love the videos! Keep em coming!! Cheers from Ohio!
Late to the game but here’s 5 I’d start with for under $250 (had to up it what can I say) in my area:
1. Redwood Empire Pipe Dream - $32
2. Woodford Double Oak - $52
3. Pikesville Rye - $45
4. Wild Turkey Rare Breed - $47
I've got the Four Roses, 1910 and the Maker's Mark in my collection already so I'm going to have to go with Dad on this one.
Going with Kurt… Wild Turkey, Buffalo Trace, and 4 Roses - great starters.
I picked up a bottle of New Riff because of this video and it’s just great!! Thanks gentleman!
I was thinking about this on my way home on how to flesh out and start from the bottom up. Perfect timing!!
I would go with Kurt. His bottles are the ones i regularly replace. Only thing i would do is replace the Evan Williams with jts brown.
I would have a mix of both your lists a bit. Buffalo Trace, Evan Williams Single Barrel, WT Rare Breed, Knob Creek 9year, and 4 Roses Single Barrel.
