I am fortunate to have them all in my 175 Bottle collection that started about 40 years ago. I was glad to see OF 1920 on the list. You saved the best for last. I only pay normal retail for bourbon. I have several bottles that were purchased only about 7 years ago for under $40.00 that are now impossible to find such as Rock Hill Farms and Elmer T. Lee. There is no reason to chase allocated bourbons when there are so many good bourbons under $60.00 that are on the shelf everyday. Great List!

I started drinking bourbon 6 years ago at a bar called Husk in Charleston, SC. Asked for a bourbon for a person who wanted to like it but was struggling to get over the harshness. I loved watching this because I have a list of “10 Bourbons to start with” that I made to share with friends getting into bourbon. I got my list as I watched and 7 of them were exactly the same. It’s great your $400 list had exactly 10. The three that were different were: you had Makers 46, EH Taylor SB (still hard to find in N Texas), and G Remus (I have a full proof GR that I love). My three that were different that I had were: WT Rare Breed (nothing wrong with 2 Turkey’s), 1792 Small Batch, and Regular Buffalo Trace. Great list for people starting to learn about bourbon. I tell them to subscribe to your channel too and they will pick up a lot. Cheers 🥃

A rather delicious way to start a collection. I've been enjoying bourbon for over 40 years, but only began collecting it during the pandemic. I've had about half of these on my shelf in the last year.

I live in Lexington Ky and have never had a chance to try Blanton's much less buy a bottle. (I'm not paying secondhand prices.) I was purchasing a bottle of Knob Creek at a local liquor store and at checkout I asked if he ever gets any Blanton's. Dude went to the back and brought out a bottle in the box. Bought it retail for 54.99. Chalk it up to luck, timing, and a nice guy. I was also the only one in the store.
Thank you for putting Four Roses Single Barrel on the list. I bought a bottle of it on a whim last year, and have been loving it ever since. It costs about $50 here in Oregon. I have been pining to try Old Forester 1920. After this vid, it's top of the list. Woodford Reserve Double Oaked isn't available at one store in this state...there's far more Blanton's available out here. I will stay local with Woodinville Straight Bourbon.
That’s interesting, I see Woodford Double Oaked pretty consistently around Portland liquor stores. Where are you seeing Blantons? Would love to pick one up, been a couple years since I’ve seen it.
Great Video! I would love to see this series expanded with a video for Intermediate collectors(adding in some rye whiskey, store picks, BP etc). Then after that a video for the serious collector!
I have 9 put of the 11 you mentioned were I am there all about $5 dollars more but a solid list very helpful especially when you mention the price point . like buffalo traces is $12 dollars more since February 2022 started were I live.

Glad you mentioned Wild Turkey 101. I used to be a night watchman at a Power Plant and when it got freezing cold out at night, 101 was the juice that kept me warm. Blanket in a bottle. I can still purchase a liter for around $20 bucks . Good stuff and thanks for the video.
As a relative new bourbon drinker (Covid 19 hobby/obsession) l've had bottles of 7 of the 11. Of those, there is just one that l keep in the rotation; Old Forester 1920 (available & delicious). I've been augmenting/ rotating that with whatever my local bottle shop has available; Baker's 7 year, Elijah Craig Barrel Proof, Noah's Mill & 4 Rose's single barrel. The point being for me; 2 bottles in the house are enough.
Blanton's was actually the first bottle of bourbon I ever owned. Was a gift from one of my professors back in 2005. I'd have to credit him and that bottle with really getting me into bourbon.
This is a great list! If you can't find George Remus in your area, I think 1792 Small Batch would be a good replacement since I don't think there was anything from Barton on the list.
The collection is GREAT. My only issue is that E.H. Taylor and Eagle Rare are allocated in my arear. To hard to get a hold of. I love the list still. tried most of them...
I have all of these, and have to agree with you. Eagle Rare is tough to find unless other more "Tatered" bottles drop at the same time. Like recently in January during EHTBP drop week, in Ohio. Blanton's also dropped and allowed me to show up 20 minutes before open and still get 1. As you may guess- I am in Ohio.
Very helpful video to assist in my new found hobby. Thank you for making this great and insightful content. It is exactly what I was looking for and will help me out a lot.
Great list. I've enjoyed most of those bottles. I was rather surprised you didn't include Buffalo Trace in your list. I know you enjoy that and it has great availability at a reasonable price.
I haven't seen a bottle of E.H.Taylor on the shelves in my area since late 2018. Early 2019 for Eagle Rare. I still have one bottle of each on the shelf, but they're both running low. I'm not sweating it though,.. I gave up on Buffalo Trace products last year. If I see them I'll pick one up, but I'm not about to go searching for them. Your whiskey room looks SO classy,... I'm surprised you don't have a little jazz drum kit set up in the corner though. When do we get to see the music room?
Eagle Rare was my introduction to bourbon about 10 years ago and it was about all that I drank for years. I only learned within the last year or two that it was allocated, so I have moved on to other equally good options.
I've got another bourbon for that extra eight dollars - Old Crow (assuming you can find a liter bottle on sale). It's technically historic (although almost certainly not the same recipe that Mark Twain was drinking back in the day). Mostly, it's a surprisingly decent bottom-shelf bourbon. A 375ml of Henry McKenna regular also squeezes under the eight dollar limit, and tastes pretty good for one of the cheapest bourbons you can buy!
Good enough to make me subscribe. 50+ years of experience dabbling with whiskey and this list sounds pretty good to me. Too bad Weller is so hard to find nowadays though.
👍🏽cool collection it gives me some ideas on my nex one. I have always been a tequila guy now I’m older and want something I can sip on and relax. Yesterday I got my first bottle of buffalo trace and it’s grate. I’ve tried the usual whiskeys, and bourbon is my younger days, but now I’m getting into more flavorful and smooth bourbon.
This is fantastic. Not only are picks really solid choices, but loved the consideration of the history and stories behind each of these selections. This really shows your passion for the history of this beloved spirit, and the enjoyment you get passing that along to others. I can appreciate the research that must have went into this particular video and kudos to the presentation of this interesting information, all while keeping it under 30 minutes. Great work...thank you :)

Jason can you do a Starter List for around $200 bucks of Rye ? That would be very helpful to me. Thanks for what you do. Keep your glass full 🥃. Blessings from Gettysburg...
This is a fantastic idea and a great list! Only additions/changes I would suggest would be maybe a barrel proof (like ECBP), a store pick, and a rye (I understand it’s a bourbon list, but I certainly wish I gave rye a chance earlier in my journey). Either way, great video!
A+ video brother! There’s a reason you’re the best whiskey tuber. I love that Blantons was on the list too haha! The truth is the story and marketing of the horsey top starts a lot of people on their bourbon journey. Cheers my man!

Blantons - found one yesterday luckily
That's a very nice list! Don't laugh too hard at that Kirkland's bottle, it's made in the Barton 1792 Distillery. It's actually a solid pour. Try Evan Williams Single Barrel, its a cheap bottle but it's a total gem! Also if you have a few bucks I received a bottle of Joseph Magnus as a gift...WOW! What a bourbon! sooo good!

Blanton's was actually the first bottle of bourbon I ever owned. Was a gift from one of my professors back in 2005. I'd have to credit him and that bottle with really getting me into bourbon.
Started my journey last week. Picked up 5 bottles recently to jump start it. WT101, WT Rare Breed, Tin Cup, Russell’s 10 yr, and BT
All great choices
1920, Eagle rare, Knob Creek are some of my favs
This is a very solid list.
This is a great list! If you can't find George Remus in your area, I think 1792 Small Batch would be a good replacement since I don't think there was anything from Barton on the list.
I didn't realize i had a 400$ collection minus Remus one. Nice
Your whiskey room and layout is very impressive Jason! I'll have to steal some of your ideas to build my own some day!👍
The collection is GREAT. My only issue is that E.H. Taylor and Eagle Rare are allocated in my arear. To hard to get a hold of. I love the list still. tried most of them...
Eagel Rare is, if you can find it, around $66-$70 where I live, have 2 bottles in stock.
Great video. I know it took time to research, learn and appreciate what you’ve shared…..thank you!
The music room is under construction. Lol. Painting and adding acoustic panels.
Eagle Rare was my introduction to bourbon about 10 years ago and it was about all that I drank for years. I only learned within the last year or two that it was allocated, so I have moved on to other equally good options.
Same here in central florida. No blantons, EH taylor, eagle rare .
I own, have tried or have all of these on my list. Great rundown
I rarely agree with anyone completely, BUT, you are spot on. Agree 100%👍
Great list, time to go shopping is right! - 💪🏻
I agree with every selection ...have ever one except 4 roses ..wood replace with Wellers...tks
If RUclips translated this for Canadian viewers it would be titled "The Perfect $1,500 Bourbon Collection for Hardcore Hunters"
more like 750,,,come on..lol
geez, I know. $35 for WT 101 here.
Bring me a case of Caribou Crossing and we can work something out. You can find the whole list at retail any day of the week minus the BT products.
As a Canadian, I can confirm this to be true.
Here in Oz that collection is just over $1000.00.
But the sharing with friends and family is well worth it.
Hands down the absolute best "list" video with a splendid blend of history and product! This content is why this channel earned my patronage.
I have everything but the Remus. I'll have to pick that one up. Love the whiskey room. Very nice.
Good live stream last nite, these beat most ANYTHING in the $100 price range IMO 👌
As a beginner, I really enjoyed this. It's obvious how much work you put into this. Thanks for doing it!
Glad you picked Makers 46. Regular Makers is so blah, but basically everything else they make is wonderful. 46 is a great pour
Started bourbon hunting about 6 months ago and I have all of these bottles. I am such a happy camper🥹 this was a great history breakdown as well. Going to study this for insight when drinking with friends!
Love the four roses story. Not sure why I don't love the bourbon....
Great list!
Great video Jason! Initially, I'm thinking, holy crap $400 for a starter bourbon collection. But, realizing the cost of bourbon these days, that's a lot of great bottles to start a collection. Great line up. Cheers
I have every bottle on this list except the EHT and Remus. Good list.
If I were to do this myself, I would have almost certainly listed 90% of your same picks. I would recommend your video to everyone!
Jason, This is my first time responding and watched quite a few of the bourbon review videos, but you are the KING my friend! Your knowledge and expertise are unmatched. Keep the whiskey knowledge flowing!
Appreciate that Mike. Still trying to learn more and more. Glad your along for the ride.
ECBP is now marked up to $200 here😡
I'm only here for the B roll. Sucker for good production. I'm new to bourbon and really learning a lot
A+ video brother! There’s a reason you’re the best whiskey tuber. I love that Blantons was on the list too haha! The truth is the story and marketing of the horsey top starts a lot of people on their bourbon journey. Cheers my man!
I am one of those people and it will always have room in my heart
@@SmokeybeardAB same! Cheers!
LOVED the shots of your whiskey room. Do you have an uploaded video with you touring the room / collection?
Just getting into bourbon, great videos, wish I watched this before some of the buys. I started with:
1. Makers
2. Bulleit
3. Woodford double oaked
4. OF1910
5. 4 roses small batch select
6. Rare breed
7. Hudson's baby bourbon (not good!)
8. Kirklands small batch (lol)
9. Elijah Craig toasted (this is what got me into bourbon, delicious!)
10. Buffalo Trace
11. EHT small batch
12. Blantons - found one yesterday luckily
Just curious? How much did you pay for your bottle of blantons
What a bourbon! sooo good!
Just starting out in bourbon, got the ECSB, EHTSB, ER and Blantons so far. Gonna grab the Double Oaked next!
I ❤you your list, great selection.
9:35 I'm a scotch drinker, new to bourbon. Eagle Rare has been my first favorite, but contrary to your comment at 10:19, it has not been easy for me to find. I'm hoarding an unopened bottle while I try some others.
This is an excellent, very informative video. I'd like to see you do one that lists brands that are easy enough to find that I don't have to be afraid to choose one as a daily sip.
Incidentally, George Remus is a minor hero of mine. An experienced trial lawyer, he studied the Volstead Act intensively, and probably knew it better than anyone else in the country. It's hard to draft legislation that does what the authors want it to do, as evidenced by Volstead and Remus.
This is not easy to find....at all. In NC anyway, it's virtually impossible to find. By far, one of my favorite bourbon.
Great video! My List, will start with each Big Distillery (apologies to MGP)
Wild Turkey: WT 101 $22
Beam: Knob Creek Sib $45
Buffalo Trace: EH Taylor SB $40
Brown Foreman: Old Forester 1920 $50
Heaven Hill: ECBP $65
George Dickle: Dickle BiB 11 year $35
Four Roses: Four Roses SB Select $55
Jack Daniels: Jack Daniels SBBP $55
Makers Mark: Makers Mark BP $35
Where was this video when I started the spiral into bourbon? Great video Jason!
Great list! Wish this video was out 2 years ago.
Have complete set! All solid!
