Evan 12 year is one of the best whiskeys I've had. I had it back to back with Weller Special Reserve, Blanton's, and Eagle Rare. I was looking forward to the Weller, and was wildly let down. I didn't even consider the EW 12 year, so I didn't expect what was coming... a seriously INCREDIBLE whiskey!
I happened to be drinking some EW BIB while watching this. For me, it's my everyday bourbon. I like it over ice, which, as it melts, opens up the flavor profile. I'm no taster, but I like the sweetness I get out of it. There are other flavors I don't know how to categorize, but I like them. I wish I could get it at the prices you state, but in my area, central NJ, it's a $24 bottle. But, I can get the 1.75L for $31, which is what I get. I do like the Black Label a lot, but I like the higher proof of the BIB a bit more. The Single Barrel was awesome, but as you note, you can't find it anymore. I wasn't really impressed with the 1783, but maybe I should go back to it and try it again. I'd love to try the Red Label! Overall, as you state, these are awesome bourbons for the price, and IMO could easily be sold for $10 or $20 above the normal price under a different name. Sure there are better, but when you're on a tight budget, any EW is hard to beat. It would be #1 in "bourbon for the buck" in my book.
3:09 as a person who many times bought EW BIB, the taste and flavor are not always the same. (Because it’s a cheap BIB), but if you get the good one it’s a great bourbon for the price.
The Evan Williams White Label is my favorite and does not even need a qualifier (ie price statement like the black); I keep it in stock always. I often get a natural peanut butter flavor that blends into the dusty corn profile giveaway on bourbons and is very pronounced on the BIB in addition to 10 other flavor notes. I could take or leave the Single barrel (see around $40). I do not care for the 1783 at all. Lastly, I would rather spend $140 on something else other than the 12. Thanks for another solid episode.
They were out of my favorite inexpensive bourbon (vob 90 proof) so I got a bottle of Evan Williams bottled in bond. I'm sipping some right now watching your video. I totally agree with your assessment of this whiskey.
I have tried Evan Williams before, not a fan, but I havent tried the 1783...Might have to give that one a try next. This show has really helped me to be better at selecting better bourbons.
Thanks for all that. Enjoying the black label here in Oklahoma for about $17 a liter. I like it straight more than Jack myself. Will have to try the 1783 small batch, maybe the white label to mix.
I like the black label which normally costs about $10 here, and the bottled in bond is a best buy at around $15; but I've never tried the 1783. I definitely must give it a try, especially with Trenton's rating for it.
Black label for around $10😳 I'd almost move to where you are at just for the great price. I love the black label. Where are you at if I may ask, just curious.
The black lable 1.75 liter up in my neck of the woods is under $20. I keep a couple of jugs in my bar at all times, and it's my go-to flask/golf booze. Best bang for your booze buck, imo.
I consider the 1783 (22$ in my area ) is an absolute bargain. Had the single barrel a few times , thought it was ok but not worth the 44$ , the black label is a great deal at 26$ a "handle" in my area. Never had the privilege of trying the 12 year. Great video!
i just got invited to a whiskey/cigar social from some high school alums and I am not a whiskey connoisseur by any means. I stumbled across your channel and you guys are great!. I just went out and bought the 1783 and I cannot wait to try it.
That Single Barrel is just really really good for the money. I enjoy it neat and have been using it for drink recipes that call for a single barrel Whisky or just a better quality Whisky overall. Sounds like I will have to stop doing that and go back to using the BiB instead and hoard the SB lol
Yes,it is worth it.I’ve been drinking Jack Daniels for forty years.A few yrs.ago,I went into a liquor store and I didnt have enough scratch on me.The guy behind the counter said “try E.W. black label. Its similar in taste, has more alcohol, and is half the price of Jack”,he said.I took his word for it….He was spot on,but I still prefer J.D.and buy it if I can,but Evan is a great alternative.
EW Single Barrel Vintage is one of the first single barrels I was introduced too and It became my daily drinker. I used to have several before it became KY only. Down to 1 bottle….then my wife calls me today while out shopping and she found 3 in the wild! One of the best $32 bottles IMO and just love the stuff.
Thanks SLB for giving us the heads up on the single barrel going bye bye for 49 states. Somehow I missed that announcement. I found one bottle, so far, here in Michigan. I'll keep a look out for more. $29 here. Feel free to be a news source for the whiskey community.
In my experience, 2/3 of the EW SB bottles hit just a good as almost any other SB out there (except EH Taylor, of course), and for around $30 you cannot go wrong. Picked up a two of the last remaining 6 bottles in my area a couple weeks ago, and lucked out on a delicious barrel.
ALL single barrels are inconsistent AF. Woodford, 4 Roses, EW, you name it, SBs are all GREAT or NASTY? I don't go to casinos to drink (overpriced), and I sure as hell don't want to go to the liquor store to gamble.
EXCELLENT review and video guys. I can't believe I didn't buy a bottle of EW Black Label on sale at my local Walgreens or $7!! That seems absurd until I remember that the late Heaven Hill BIB 6 year went for $10. Same distillery of course, but the Heaven Hill was cheaper and superior. That was simply IMO the best Bourbon value on the planet. I still have a few, and I loved it much more than the EW BIB. 1783 is really good but the EW SB was my gateway into Bourbon. That Bourbon will always hold a special place in my heart for establishing my love for Bourbon. Sounds like I need to go on a tour to get a 12 year! Lucky I'm not far away. :) Keep these coming, love this theme.
1 year later the EWSB is now scarce in 49 of the 50 states. I did receive two bottles as a birthday gift from my oldest son. Amazing son!!! Amazing bourbon. I'd stack the good barrels, especially the 8-10 year bottles up with anything!
Just watched this one today. Drank black label a lot over the years. Bought my first bottle of 1783 today. Wow!!! What a wonderful sip! Thanks to Trenton for the tip. My pallet tends to better follow his. Cheers!!!
I agree with you on the white label. I think it tastes young and has some sharp edges . I don't buy it because I don't have any dedicated mixers. Wild turkey 101 is a better do it all bourbon and is $38 a handle on my area .
Agreed, I don't really understand the hype. It has a strange end note to me, like artificial cherry or something along those lines. I get that its better than anything else that inexpensive. I could see it as a decent high proof mixer, if I made mixed drinks regularly, but I'd much rather spend a few more dollars for something noticeably better.
Absolutely love the 1783. IMO, way better than the BIB. Always wanted to try the single barrel. EW Distillery was my first bourbon tour and if I'm not mistaken, they gave us the 12yr to sip at the tasting and I thought it was horrible.
Well, the price of it is certainly horrible. You can get Knob Creek 12 for around $70 and Elijah Craig 12 yr barrel proof for around $75 (if you can find a bottle around retail).
Evan Williams BIB CANNOT be beaten for the price point (esp. as a mixer). As a sipper for the same price, possibly 1783. Reminds me of a cheaper Elijah Craig.
Is it a great deal? Yes. Can it be beaten though? In my opinion also yes. At that price I'd usually rather get Old Forester Signature 100 or Wild Turkey 101.
@@JMontague990 I don't know why I did it to be honest. It wasn't THAT bad but with all the other bourbon I have bought it just wasn't as good. I tried to like it but it just wasn't that good to me. I should have kept it. Right after I did it I wondered why I did it. I could have saved it and tried it again at a later date but didnt.
Thanks for doing this video. With the exception of the 12 yr. The EW Bottled in Bond to me is heavy on the hot cinnamon note to it. I happen to keep it as a staple. Not my favorite, but good for the $25 I have to pay for it.
Your content and delivery just keep getting better. I’m really enjoying Trenton’s involvement and wish he’d be on screen for every video. I like the dynamic between the two of you and it just translates better when you’re both on camera. Just my $.02
This is pretty funny but Trent was planned to be behind camera on this one. They have been very busy buying another house so when he came down to film he was a filthy mess 😂! He forgot he was supposed to be behind camera. Kids…
@@slbdrinks The Evan Williams Single Barrel is legit and I am sad to hear it is a Kentucky release only. I have a 2011 bottle I am hanging onto. Some pop up from time to time. I will definitely buy a few bottles if I ever see them again. Out my way they go for $27. Thanks for the heads up about it only being a Kentucky release now. Shit the single barrel is what got me into bourbon back in 2011 when I turned 21. After all these years it still holds up well with my pallet.
EW black label was one of my 1st bourbons way back before I knew anything about bourbon and I liked it. I now have the BIB and Single Barrel. I didn't know that was being discontinued. I think I have still seen it on the shelves around here. 1783 has been on my list to get and I will soon. Thanks again for another great video and show.
I had told my friend at the gym about EW BiB and how I loved using it as a daily supper. She went and bought one that weekend and come back and told me she couldn’t get over the “cinnamon” note that was in it!!! Not sure if it exactly “cinnamon” but my friend had the same thoughts about it as y’all did, very interesting
Evan Williams Bib was my first bottle, just ok, good price, great mixer. Have had the 86 proof, but if I am going to go for a low priced Williams, 1783 would be my choice.
I do keep EW BIB on my bar but I just remembered that I do have a bottle of the 1783 that I have not touched in a while. I will go back and compare the BIB with the 1783.
EW B-I-B has been my bargain one until Early Times as I said before. My area seems higher than yours, or previous reader, as it is about $21. The 1783 in my area is about $24. I'm going to look for the Single Barrel Vintage as you suggest. Thanks for yet another fun review. I like Trenton to appear on screen on occasions as you are doing. The off-screen comments are good and come across better.
Watching this video made he go out and buy a bottle of the single barrel and do a blind with the 1783 and I have to admit it was so dam close, I think the nose on the single barrel is (slightly) less ethanol than the 1783 and the pour itself is easier on the palate if your new to bourbon with a hint of some kind of fruit on the front end…apple maybe that I didn’t get on the 1783. The Evan Williams 12 yr. I have never even seen before here in NY and at first, I thought they relabeled the Evan Williams fire bottle…lol. IMO the black label is for people who are truly on a budget but also get to enjoy a real good tasting bourbon that most other budget bourbons don’t give you, and the white label is for mixers, there are to many really good bourbons out there that are affordable and much better sippers with a cube or in an old fashioned. I just with the E/W single barrel wasn’t $33.99 and was closer to what you paid! Awesome comparison guys & may it always be the other guy that says.... this ones on me 🥃Cheers
Love EW BiB and the single barrel. May have to try the black label. I heard the BiB is black label aged 2 more years. Try Old Granddad drinks pretty easy and very inexpensive.
Love Evan Williams, Bottled in Bond is my store's big seller. Even though it's flavored, Evan Williams Honey & Peach slap hard and the best of the flavored whisky.
I'm not a big fan of the EW black label or 1783, but I enjoy the bottled in bond version. The first couple of bottles of single barrel I purchased were great, but then flavor profiles on the following bottles varied so much I didn't enjoy it anymore. I've never seen the 12-year version but would love to try it sometime. Keep up the great work!
I'm very disappointed that EW Sngl Brl will no longer be available. My current one was bottled in 2020 at 8 yrs., it's outstanding. The previous bottle was just OK, but that's what you get with single barrels. I have not seen the 1783 here in Wisconsin, would like to try it. I do some custom blending; EW black label is a vg starter base for some blends. Thanks Kurt for the EW family review!
Another Great video..Much thanks on this one, I've got a bottle of EW Black label, and sip on it rarely. I wondered about some of the others offerings from Evan Williams, You're video has convinced me to try some of the other EW offerings.
I’ve bought the EW 12 at the EW Bourbon Experience in Louisville, at the gift shop. Maybe that was a special occasion. The have an EW Master Blend you should check out. 90 proof. Was a lot cheaper than the 12yr.
I am living the high life commenting on my own comment 2 weeks later. Anyway I picked up a bottle of the black label - $18 in Michigan. It is definitely good and worth the look for the price. I like the bottled in bond a wee bit better but no complaints on this black label.
Evan Williams black label is really a nice pour for the price. For some reason the BiB gives me a headache. Need to pickup a 1783 again soon. It’s very nice.
Good review. Don't care much for the EW black, love the single barrels I've had except one, and the EW white is occasionally good sipper but is favorite mixer along with WT101. EW white has perfect proof point for mixing without overpowering the drink, while still having strong enough flavors that they don't get lost in drink.
Dude it did not even dawn on me that they aren't distributing the Single Barrel anymore. I haven't seen it in a while. I just thought other people finally figured out how good it is and it was selling out.
The 1783 and BIB are staples in my collection... when we kill a bottle, it's replaced promptly. And the value and how good they taste are tough to beat. It's like i say, when you pick up a 40 to 60$ bottle, is it 2 or 3 times better than the Evan Williams bottle that you paid 20$ for???
I had heard about 6 weeks ago on bourbon Kingdom that the single barrels war going exclusive , grabbed a extra bottle then but now ill get at least one more .
One of the oddities of living in Japan, the Evan Williams 12 used to be about $30-$40, though now it is disappearing. It is the best bargain in Japan in terms of Bourbon.
I’m in Yokohama and it is still quite easy to find at my local stores. With current exchange rates my last bottle was $31. Worst case, it can be ordered online from Rakuten anytime you can’t find it. Agreed, best bourbon bargain I’ve found in Japan so far.
Just got some 1783 SB. First EW product I have tried personally. For 20.99 at my local store I don’t see myself finding anything like it for the price. Cheers 🥂
Nice job, I agree with your review 100%. The 1783 has become my go to sipper along with WT101. Bummed about the Single Barrel going away in Arizona. Not cool EW, I'm going to miss it.
I switched from Jack Daniels to Evan Williams about 5 years ago, and I haven't looked back. I get 1.75L bottles for $25, which is really hard to beat. The black label isn't great straight, but I prefer mixed drinks. 2 parts, pepsi or coke and 1 part Evan Williams is great.
Black label is still under $20. I love it. Always have it with zero Pepsi. Can't get enough of it. I've had the BIB, it's very good too. A bit more kick, smaller bottle. On a Friday night after work, the BIB is great for a good buzz but it doesn't take much. I will always lean on the black label though.
As a broke college student, Evan Williams black label was my go-to. Like you said, there just aren't many other decent whiskeys at that price level.
very timely as I'm on my way to the store (and moving 1793 up on the shopping list)
Evan Williams whiskeys are some of the best values in bourbon.

Some say it has Gingerbread notes.
1783 is a steal under 20. I picked up 3 Single Barrels because I know I won't be able to replace them soon. Great review guys!
Thank you very much for the Evan Williams comparison. My daily pour is the black label. If I want to step up my game,it's the 1783.
Me too bro
Was my daily poor years ago before I quit for a long while. After making the rounds recently, EW black is still hard to beat.

The BiB and 1783 are my go too's. I will have to try to track down the Single Barrel and give it a try. Thanks for doing the review.
Luckily i found the Single Barrel Evan Williams here in Japan 😄 and I absolutely love it
Your content and delivery just keep getting better. I’m really enjoying Trenton’s involvement and wish he’d be on screen for every video. I like the dynamic between the two of you and it just translates better when you’re both on camera. Just my $.02
Also, EW BIB is my favorite budget sipper and, as you said, it makes a tremendous mixer.
This is pretty funny but Trent was planned to be behind camera on this one. They have been very busy buying another house so when he came down to film he was a filthy mess 😂! He forgot he was supposed to be behind camera. Kids…
@@slbdrinks Congrats on the new home, Trent, that’s awesome!!
Definitely enjoyed the BiB and for the price, it's a steal. Haven't had other expressions yet.
1783 would def be another great bottle for your EW collection!
Williams BIB is my go to for a bourbon mixer.
Just goes to show every bourbon is not for everyone. The important thing is you enjoy it!
Evan Williams Bib was my first bottle, just ok, good price, great mixer. Have had the 86 proof, but if I am going to go for a low priced Williams, 1783 would be my choice.
I can’t believe I’m saying this but Trenton should be in these videos. Love the back and forth between the two of ya!
I do keep EW BIB on my bar but I just remembered that I do have a bottle of the 1783 that I have not touched in a while. I will go back and compare the BIB with the 1783.
Let me know how it compares to you plz.
I live in Alabama. Looks like I’ll be taking a trip to the bluegrass state. Good show, really good show.
Thank you!
I have a EV BIB and feel the exact same way as you do about it. I'll have to try the 1783.
Thank you!
Some of their flavored whiskeys are dynamite!
Thank you!
Just picked up a bottle of the BIB at Walmart today for around $14.50. First time trying it and I like it!
Awesome and a great price as well!
At a, i think, similar price range as Evan Williams Black Label, Benchmark 8 is quite good. Although its worthwhile to jump up to 1783 or BiB for sure
I tried the 1783 and loved it! Found it on sale for $16.95. Perfect in a Manhattan
Love the bottled in bond for a mint julep. The extra proof helps it stand up with all the dilution crushed ice can cause
The 1783 is incredibly viscous and rich in flavor for its proof, regardless of price. I tried it recently. It's my new daily drinker.
I need to get into doing some blending!
The EW 1783 small batch Heros edition is delicious!
Another Great video..Much thanks on this one, I've got a bottle of EW Black label, and sip on it rarely. I wondered about some of the others offerings from Evan Williams, You're video has convinced me to try some of the other EW offerings.
Hope you love them!
1783 and WT 101 are my two go to whiskeys
Evan Williams Black started me on my bourbon journey. I would love to get me some Single barrel and 12 year.
The 12yr is very disappointing.
You guys should make a video on all the knob Creek bourbons.
We will def get to that one!
@@slbdrinks That will be a fun one to watch for sure! Thanks
I’ve bought the EW 12 at the EW Bourbon Experience in Louisville, at the gift shop. Maybe that was a special occasion. The have an EW Master Blend you should check out. 90 proof. Was a lot cheaper than the 12yr.
Thanks for the recommendation!
I've only had the bottle in bond and quite like it. I am thrifty so I will have to give the black label a look. Thanks.
It is a good mixer!
Dude it did not even dawn on me that they aren't distributing the Single Barrel anymore. I haven't seen it in a while. I just thought other people finally figured out how good it is and it was selling out.
Ya it’s a bummer. Not sure why they made that decision.
Thank you guys that was an awesome video
Great video Kurt. Thanks
Good idea!
The best bang for your buck in all of bourbon land is the Evan Williams Vintage. Buy it if you find it
I completely get that same flavor note in the BIB - has a harsh, ashy edge to it. I need to try it in an old fashioned or manhattan!
Ya Jeff I agree unfortunately. I do bad want to like it neat but just can’t.
One of the oddities of living in Japan, the Evan Williams 12 used to be about $30-$40, though now it is disappearing. It is the best bargain in Japan in terms of Bourbon.
The bottled in bond is an excellent value, have to try the others. BIB is $24/1.75L near me (Central Florida)
I’m in Yokohama and it is still quite easy to find at my local stores. With current exchange rates my last bottle was $31. Worst case, it can be ordered online from Rakuten anytime you can’t find it. Agreed, best bourbon bargain I’ve found in Japan so far.
Wow that’s insane! What an incredible deal!
Gosh I miss Evan Williams Single Barrel, it was flavorful for me and just as I was starting to keep it a staple they pulled back to Kentucky only 😂
Just got some 1783 SB. First EW product I have tried personally. For 20.99 at my local store I don’t see myself finding anything like it for the price. Cheers 🥂
One of the best sub prime bourbon's and my personal cheap bourbon favorite. We can't get bottled in bond up here in Vancouver. Sad. Very sad.
Well done Kurt &Trenton 👍
Nice job, I agree with your review 100%. The 1783 has become my go to sipper along with WT101. Bummed about the Single Barrel going away in Arizona. Not cool EW, I'm going to miss it.
Me to!
I have had all of those.....but not the 12 year. Would love to find a bottle of the 12 year!
Hopefully you will!
