Hope this works for you guys! Let me know if you have any questions!
Hi, I have a 2018 Mini and when I created the USB installer following your tutorial it will not boot from the USB drive. If I boot into recovery and open Disk utility the drive appears but I can't do a thing with it. If I select Startup Disk the USB installer is not available/visible. If I boot back into macOS 10.15.x and select Startup Disk in system pref, the USB installer is not visible there as well. It should at least be visible within the macOS Startup Disk app, right?
I trying to install Nvme m2 in my mcbook , but it’s recognizing, what error I did here ?

Yet another example of how fun it can be to learn something new when the person teaching you is genuinely interested and excited about it themselves. Thank you Mr. Macintosh!!!
Thank you very much @carfish I DO LOVE macOS 😀
100% agreed.
I have been searching so many places on how to do it, there are so many places where they just explain but not in detail. Just wanna thank you for the very helpful video. Hope you make more and more videos because I think you can Rock in RUclips industry. All the best!

Your advice is worth its weight in gold. And your video is expertly produced, your narration is precise and clear, and you are amazingly well-informed and generous with your knowledge. I wish I had found this video weeks ago. BRAVO! All RUclips producers making Macintosh explainers should learn how to do it from your videos. THANK YOU.
This is the clearest, most thorough yet concise explanatory video I've watched in a long time. I've made several bootable usb installers over the years, but this installer package with accompanying instructions is a real bonus. Thank you very much.
Thank you very much Eric!!!
I downloaded the official Big Sur update today and I followed your directions and they worked perfectly. I did a clean install on my MacBook Pro and everything is good. Thank you!
Great Video - Took me some time with other videos that just gave copy and past commands to do the command that did not work. Liked that you showed how to build the command from scratch. Thanks...
Glad it helped Andrew!!! Thanks for the comment 👍

I have downloaded all 12GB in less than 5 minutes. I was using the fetch macos Python script in the macOS kvm package. The python script is a lot faster than the App Store.

Glad it was helpful!
Hi Mr. Macintosh, Can you post a video to create an USB/Pendrive with a number of Live OS like a combination of Linux, Windows MacOS and etc ... If possible. It would be greatly useful for many.
Thank you so much for this. Really helpful. Please can you do a video of how to create a bootable usb with multiple Mac OS files. I work in IT and have to work on several systems, so the idea of carrying several usb drives is not one that I find appealing. Hope you see this. Thanks.
Dubem, I will try to get to that! You should see mine, I have 12 different versions of macOS 🤓
thxx of lot sir
Most welcome
So, I'm frustrated. I have a 2020 MacBook Air running Monterey and a 2013 Mid-Year MacBook Pro that won't boot because of a corrupted OS. So, I'm trying to create a bootable USB to reinstall the OS. Every time I try to use the "Get" button to download Catalina on my 2020 machine, I find that it's greyed out. When I try to use the "Get" button for Big Sur on my 2020 device, I get a software update window for Monterey. Please tell me, what am I missing?
BTW Mr. Macintosh, thank you for this excellent video. It's really good and very helpful. I'm just stuck because Apple "seems" to be preventing me from downloading an old OS to set up a bootable USB drive.
hi there , please make a tutorial video about , how to make big sur iso file bootable usb on windows 10 please .thnx
Hello. My MacBook Air m2 doesn’t have the option to show package contents. Any ideas? Fixed. Did t realise I had to install the assistant pkg first. Actually read your instructions!! Thanks
GREAT ! 🤗 🙌🏽
This worked great, I got it onto the USB but when I try to boot it up on my MacBook Pro - I see it there to install, but then it still wants me to connect to the internet to recover/install that way. I can't get past the connect to network option - and am trying to avoid needing an internet connection for this. Can I get around that??
hello I installed your assistant pga onto my macbook pro 2011 to make the bootable key for my new mac mini . I can't figure it out how to use the terminal anymore on the Mac mini!
This is a great tutorial. I, however, require your help. When erasing the disk on Terminal, it gets to 10% and then the error Number (-69888, 0) pops up. I don’t know what else is there to do. I looked the error up and the solution offered was changing names and reformatting the disk, but I wasn’t successful. Hopefully you know something abt the error. Thank you in advance for sharing such an excellent video
So I can boot this usb to any laptop and it boot up right?
Hi I have a mac os mojave, and I want to create a partition for big sur so I can use the latest xcode. is it possible or I really need to update and leave the mojave before installing big sur on partition? I cant leave mojave because all of my apps are there. so it possible that I can have mojave and big sur at the same time. Im afraid I may got in trouble doing this. pls give me advice thanks in advance.
Can I use the same method to create a sierra usb
Thanks for sharing, is it possible to create the installation media using linux?
This is great if you happen to have a computer that can download Big sir. Since i have a 2011 Mac mini and i wish to make a fresh SSD install for a 2013 Mac pro. I am unable to use this technique. I guess i add a lower IOS and then upgrade once i have the Mac pro running.
Jeff, the good news is you can download big sur from any Mac using the installassistant.pkg file > swcdn.apple.com/content/downloads/00/55/001-86606-A_9SF1TL01U7/5duug9lar1gypwunjfl96dza0upa854qgg/InstallAssistant.pkg
@@Mr.Macintosh Yeah took me some time to find the Button sequence to use when starting the computer. I was able to finally get Big Sur Installed Using the Command R keys to install the latest operation system. The whole formating the drive was more of an issue for me as I had not done it in a long time .
Thanks so much for making this video, having a lot of trouble getting the software onto my new MacBook. I did not get the chance to make an account before my new MacBook pro crashed, have you got any tips? You seem to be the only one that has some structural information on this issue. I have the programme on my USB but it will not show up on the new MacBook.
Also it keeps saying it is still busy with something and I have to force eject the USB before taking it out of old laptop
Hello Pieter, are you currently able to get into the OS or is that why you now have to reinstall big sur ?
For this issue, unplug the usb reboot and try again as soon as you login. It's usually spotlight that is causing issues with unmounting the volume.
@@Mr.Macintosh I’m not able to get into the os, so need to install Big Sur onto the mac
More specifically I don’t have any os on the mac at the moment and when trying to do the installation as apple would want it, I get the personalization error
Everything went well, but on booting from external drive the computer freezes on the language screen & the keyboard/mouse doesn't move beyond.Enter key or cursor keys don't budge & mouse too stays stuck! Any solutions pls?
Merci
i have a slow transfer issue on mbp 2015, 1 hour copying and never came to 10%, I think its my usb I will try with another one tomorrow but its strange with a 3.0 usb
I am getting this...
APFS disks may not be used as bootable install media
Any thoughts plz???
We can create a BigSur USB installer from an intel computer and use it on a M1 silicon, correct ?
Hi great informative vid. Does this mean you can use Safari, Numbers and Pages from the usb and not leave a trace on your MacBook once the usb is ejected? Thanks.
Alan, you can do this if you install Big Sur to an external Hard Drive. What this does is create the install media so you can install big sur from the USB instead of downloading it from Apple in macOS recovery.
will this work on M1 MacBook Pro? I did this and need confirmation before I proceed
Hello, does it works for install Catalina OS ( from the app store) on a Macbook pro retina 2014 (OS Yosemite) ? I have checked the contents of the Catalina file and i have the same "createinstallmedia" like in your tutorial. Thank you.
it downloads an instalation media not the full dmg file.. How to fix?
How to create bootable usb for macbook m1 from windows pc
Absolutely brilliant! Thank you so much!
You're very welcome!
Tried on different macs and there is no chance to download OS from the AppStore. There is no popup with download button when clicking get button in AppStore :(
You have to give the same Name (USB31F) to the USB stick. The other way round it doesn't work ...
Sir my usb disk can't Bootable because the EFI partition can't create... How to solve... Thanks
Sir i installed mac os in xubuntu using sosumi but iphone is not detected in checkra1n nor any usb is detected in mac os Catalina what to do?
It says the requested update not found when i try to install it.
How can you "Create a bootable macOS Big Sur USB install drive" on Windows 10 or 7 ???
Excuse me man, is it also gonna be apply to the create the Win10 USB bootable too?
my copying process stuck on 90%, it's been 2 days.. should i redo the command or not? i checked the activity monitor and data read on 91 GB and data written is on 78 GB.... thank you in advance.
When I get to App Store and click "Get" for the Big Sur it doesn't download the file to applications folder but open up software update and trying to update! I appreciate your help in advance.
Let it be, it will download and them when it is finish the folder you need will be in place just like the video.
Hi everything worked perfectly but when I try install it says “This volume is not formatted as AFPS”
Reformat the USB drive as macOS Extended Journaled
