Hello, Do you have any idea how to install El Capitan On A 2009 Mac Pro and avoid the Forbidden 403 error ? Many many thanks in advance if you have a clue for me
A 2009 Mac Pro should be the Early 2009 or MacPro4,1 model. As far as I know El Capitan is just supported out of the box here. So you'd need to create a bootable macOS installer for El Capitan and boot from it. I did a video on that process over here: ruclips.net/video/D0mBiOFswWg/видео.html If you want more info on upgrading the 4,1 or running a newer OS or Windows 11, have a look at these videos: ruclips.net/video/zTl1lL1zfkg/видео.html and ruclips.net/video/yZPKLmmjKSQ/видео.html

Hi there, just a question everything seems to have installed just fine except when I go to the post install Automator part it isn’t present on it the utility menu, as it should be. Also Big Sur seems to perform quite slowl, would there be a reason for this?
Hello, what could be the reason that my mouse and keyboard no longer work in the boot menu? I'm getting desperate with this MacPro 3.1. It must be possible to install BigSur.
In theory you can upgrade using this method and keep your applications and files. But it's always a good idea to have a proper backup. Especially when you are doing something like this.
Hi! Nov 2024. Thank you for the tutorial. I followed your steps up to running the MicropatcherAutomator. It doesn't want to work: clicking the Download Installer App it says "Automator has encountered and error. The requested URL was not found on this server." I downloaded a Big Sur installer dmg, then ran the folder icon "Browser for the Installer app", open the Big Sur installer file, and I get another error: "The patching process has failed. You can check for the problem in the verbose output. Try quitting the app, re-format your volume, and try again." So, I'm stuck and cannot patch / install or anything. Solutions?
Hi, I am not getting the EFI Boot option icon at all, only the “Install macOS Big Sur” icon is visible but it doesn't have the hedgehog icon either. When i select it it displays the Not Allowed icon (crossed circle). I am using the Micropatcher automator 2.0 and downloading a fresh copy of big sur via the app. My Mac Pro is 5,1 from 2010, firmware 144 Latest Mojave works fine. I have tried on the original ATI HD5770 1GBwith boot menu but no Metal 2. Also I have RX265 with support for Metal 2 but no boot menu so I couldn't see anything. Is the graphics card the reason? The micropatcher itself seems to have completed exactly as per the guide above. What am I doing wrong?
Not sure if this will help but have you tried another USB drive? I noticed that some of them cause issues to boot from (in my experience Sandisk). Also see my video about the journey for my Mac Pro 4,1. There might have been a step in between which you need.
Could not get the download of Big Sur from within the patcher software to work just sits with no progress bar. Does it matter what version of the Bug Sur installer we use? Will the 11.6 be ok to use with the micropatcher v2 software? I am on a MacPro 5,1 with an OWC Electra6g SSD via a PCIx4 Slot. Also a AMD Radeon R9 280x 3GB. Whats my prognosis for a problem free Big Sur 11.6 install? Thanks for sharing all your work and knowledge with your fellow MacPro 5,1 users!!

Regular updates, if you went through the post install, should work fine. To a next release (Monterey) will most likely need some patching. Afaik, the beta releases were patched and tested on some unsupported devices already.
Hi, if we had to do with the terminal the deactivation of the discrete graphic card(very common issue in the batch o 2011), will doing this cause the loss that configuration?(this loss would cause the failure to be back as discrete card would be active again). thanks in advance
If you do a fresh install (like in the video), the setting would most likely be gone. Not sure for an upgrade. I don't have such model to test it on, sorry.
Hello, Ty for the tutorial, I have a question for you, I will do this to a 21.5 in iMac late 2013, I’m doing full upgrade to a new ssd and upgrade the ram, my question is, after I install the new hardware, new ssd inside of I boot up I won’t have any OS install, can I install it using this usb created before on a different mac, even a M1 mac?
I used this method exactly for that, enen on a 21,5" iMac as well (see my other video on it :)). I did not try use it to create a USB drive on M1. Would be good to know.
Thank you for your response, I’ll be doing everything tonite, installing a m2 drive and a ssd drive, trying to do this creating the bootable drive from an M1 mac, I’ll tell you how it went, is an iMac late 2013, 21.5 in
I’ve got an issue. I’m all good on everything with the installer. I’m installing onto a external NVME. The install goes through both phases of the install, OS Recover Utility install and then 30 minute install with the gray screen and the Apple logo and it seems to hang around the “a few seconds left” or whatever. But it restarts eventually and hangs about halfway through the boot screen bar. 1. I am using an external usb to install that was made from your tutorial on a another device, a 2020 Mac Mini M1 with Big Sur. 2. NVME 980 Samsung internal pcie or external. Works the same. 3. I have a Metal Enabled Radeon Pro wx7100 and a older ATI 256mb to see the boot selector. 4. PCIE raid card with 4 nvme drives. 5. I’ve got or had a Titan Ridge Thunderbolt card installed but removed it. 6. The machine is a 2012 12-core machine with DOSDude Catalina installed. Are any of the PCIE cards causing issues? I do have an RX580 I can swap out to use. Do I need the old ATI card or should is just use the metal card?
A lot of thing that are at play here... Difficult to tell what exactly could be the issue. I would start with a minimum config, as original as possible. Even the video card does not need to be Metal-supported for the patched installer, it will jsut be slow once installed. I guess it will come down to testing with different configurations.
Thank you for this amazing tutorial! Just wondering if it's possible to install a PCI-e NVME drive after upgrading to Big Sur on the 4,1/5,1 Mac Pro? I know from other videos that it's possible in Mojave but you need to run a new firmware patch to activate NVME support. Have you tried this? Any help appreciated, thanks!
Yes this is possible. I did this before on another build I made (dual CPU). I used the Aqua Computer kryoM.2 evo with a Samsung SSD and the performance was really good.
Hi Jen, I revived my mac mini (mid 2011) from its original install to high Sierra (replaced hhd with a 500 ssd). The result is astonishing ... Speed of light even with a 2 GB memory .... I think, as you mentioned, the memory size is on the low side. You could give it a try, should work in theory but I think the machine will feel a lot more fluent with High Sierra.
You could give it a try using a different method. Did a video on how to get Monterey on unsupported hardware some time back, using Opencore. You can find it here: ruclips.net/video/gF89n4TKurs/видео.html

Hello , can you tell me how to remove partition of big sur legaci on unsupported mac , i install that on one partition but i want to uninstall it correctly , can you halp? Thanks
In Disk Utility, it should be possible to remove the partition on which you installed Big Sur and them expand your other install to use that space again. Depends a bit on your partition layout.
I don’t get the scheme option to enter GUID so when I create my bootable installer it is labelled EFI and doesn’t force a shut down. So everything stops. Thoughts?
You probably did Erase in Disk Utility on the partition/volume and not on the whole drive. Make sure you have the show all devices option selected first (see video) and then select the top item (representing the drive hardware) when doing Erase. That should show the Scheme option and should fix the issue as well.
Hey guys ! When i'm at the installer app step, just after inputing my password, the automater doesn't respond anymore. I don't understand why because I have enough space on my usb drive. Did you have this problem ? Could someone help me ?

It then gets back to normal starting up Catalina. NO matter how many times I have tried. My mac is a mac pro 5.1 from 2009-2010 with a metal graphics card.
Please help. Thanks in advance.
Is it normal that it takes hours to complete the second stage (min. 6:04 of this video)? Thanx
It can take a really long time. Especially when you don't have an SSD.
@@jensdbe actually my hd is ssd 😞 any ideas? It has been at half procedure since this morning.
Hi there, just a question everything seems to have installed just fine except when I go to the post install Automator part it isn’t present on it the utility menu, as it should be. Also Big Sur seems to perform quite slowl, would there be a reason for this?
In order for the update to work do I have to erase everything from my Hard Drive?
Hello, what could be the reason that my mouse and keyboard no longer work in the boot menu? I'm getting desperate with this MacPro 3.1. It must be possible to install BigSur.
I have the same issue
Do I need to backup my Mac before advancing with the process?
In theory you can upgrade using this method and keep your applications and files. But it's always a good idea to have a proper backup. Especially when you are doing something like this.
Hi! Nov 2024.
Thank you for the tutorial.
I followed your steps up to running the MicropatcherAutomator. It doesn't want to work: clicking the Download Installer App it says "Automator has encountered and error. The requested URL was not found on this server."
I downloaded a Big Sur installer dmg, then ran the folder icon "Browser for the Installer app", open the Big Sur installer file, and I get another error: "The patching process has failed. You can check for the problem in the verbose output. Try quitting the app, re-format your volume, and try again."
So, I'm stuck and cannot patch / install or anything. Solutions?
Take a look at my newer videos on for example Sonoma and Sequoia. The same method works for Big Sur as well
Hi, I am not getting the EFI Boot option icon at all, only the “Install macOS Big Sur” icon is visible but it doesn't have the hedgehog icon either. When i select it it displays the Not Allowed icon (crossed circle).
I am using the Micropatcher automator 2.0 and downloading a fresh copy of big sur via the app.
My Mac Pro is 5,1 from 2010, firmware 144
Latest Mojave works fine.
Thanks for sharing all your work and knowledge with your fellow MacPro 5,1 users!!
same thing for me, too.
Me too.. until I clicked the “continue” icon anyways..
Then I was prompted to inter my password and it’s begun downloading -_-
@@JuniorT963 Did that, entered my password and it accepted it, but the download never started.
@@JuniorT963 I have actually done that like 3 times, still nothing.. Hit continue enter password to authorize, hit continue again.. same thing over and over.
@@Huskerfan69 Were you ever able to figure it out? lol I'm stuck on that as well.
Bonsoir,
J'ai un imac 2011 High Sierra . Est-il possible d'installer Big Sur?
Cela ne devrait pas être un problème.
Bonjour
i trying to install into macbook white mid 2009, after i choose efi boot then choose install macos big sur then apple logo loading appear, but when it still loading then the apple logo change into prohibited icon. any solutions please?
Thank you so much bro....
does it work on a Late 2010 MacBook Air with High Sierrs? I love Big Sur with open core legacy patcher but it doesn't have auto boot instead of me having to manually select the disks. so does it work?
Mine, Im getting an error when I run the installation and wont get the success message. Macbook air A1466 here
Working on MBP late 2011, but very slow.
Worked perfectly . Thank you so much! I was jus wondering if we Can continue to Update it?! 😀
Thank you for your response, I’ll be doing everything tonite, installing a m2 drive and a ssd drive, trying to do this creating the bootable drive from an M1 mac, I’ll tell you how it went, is an iMac late 2013, 21.5 in
Question, Fusion Drive or separated drives, what you recommend, 256 on the m2 and 512 on the ssd, thinking on using boot camp as well
I’ve got an issue.
Hello there I need your help I Install macOS Big Sur On MacBook Pro 2011
face time camera not working any suggestion please
Hi Jen, I revived my mac mini (mid 2011) from its original install to high Sierra (replaced hhd with a 500 ssd). The result is astonishing ...
Speed of light even with a 2 GB memory ....
Can I use your method to upgrade to big sur? Thanks a lot for your help
Version : mini mid 2011 / 2.3 GHz I5 / Intel graphics 3000 288 MB / 2GB ram ... I know I'll upgrade that to 8 or 16 😆
I think, as you mentioned, the memory size is on the low side. You could give it a try, should work in theory but I think the machine will feel a lot more fluent with High Sierra.
@@jensdbe wonderful. Again. Thanks a lot for such a great video
the graphics info isnt visible in About my mac section why ??
Doesn’t work on Mac mini 2010 - stops at install due to usb drivers not been part of the patcher. Do you have a work around?
You could give it a try using a different method. Did a video on how to get Monterey on unsupported hardware some time back, using Opencore. You can find it here: ruclips.net/video/gF89n4TKurs/видео.html
Can I do it on Mac mini 2011?
Should work fine, yes
@@jensdbe Ok thanks!
So once I have everything installed do I need to keep the usb stick in still or I can take it out
No need for the USB drive after installing
@@jensdbe thanks alot your the best!!!
Preparing the hard Disk, will it erase all the information of my computer, I skiped that step downloaded Big Sur and is now frozen, I dont if it is still processing or what?
any patch or fix for the camera? facetime is not working...
will this work if you install Big Sur on an external ssd?
Great work 100% thanks
Hi, I got this error: Instalation cannot proceed because the installer is damage. Macbook pro Mid 2012.
I have a question- at what point can I take out the hard drive? Or does it always stay in my computer
Do you mean the USB drive? As soon as you get to the setup menu where you can add a user etc, it can be removed.
Can I force Or enable handoff feature? I have an iMac 2011, and is not working
Question, I also want to change my hdd with an ssd, can I create che USB, change the hdd and then install everything on the empty ssd?
Yes, that should work fine. Did it a few times in the meanwhile, with succes. Good luck with the SSD upgrade!
@@jensdbe thanks for the response 👍 for the ssd no problem I did already swapped 3 imacs

I have a late 2009 iMac, I am at the disk utility window. When I try to erase my hard disk and convert it to APFS it says it fails. What should I do?
Did you choose the option to show all devices in Disk Utility? Make sure to select the whole drive rather than a single volume as well
yeah.. just tried on my 2010 imac and it sucks like its so bad, so i ended up installing ubuntu linux and my god it runs like butter
I tried to install it on my iMac 2011 27" unfortunately keeps coming up with error '' An error occurred loading the update'' Any idea Please help. Thanks
Depends a bit on your partition layout.
its like this
i cant get pass the step to create the files it dont go on the ( select target volume ) for me what can i do ??
Which exact step do you mean? Can you give the timecode of the video so I can check?
Thank you so muthch
I don’t get the scheme option to enter GUID so when I create my bootable installer it is labelled EFI and doesn’t force a shut down. So everything stops. Thoughts?
You probably did Erase in Disk Utility on the partition/volume and not on the whole drive. Make sure you have the show all devices option selected first (see video) and then select the top item (representing the drive hardware) when doing Erase. That should show the Scheme option and should fix the issue as well.
I am stuck on migration Assistant window. Two option available as showing in video. which one need to select?
You can choose the "Not now" option in the left bottom corner in order to skip through.
Hey guys ! When i'm at the installer app step, just after inputing my password, the automater doesn't respond anymore. I don't understand why because I have enough space on my usb drive. Did you have this problem ? Could someone help me ?
After the Big Sur install can you upgrade to next OS within the Big Sur OS ?
You should be able to install Big Sur updates as normal. If you mean to go to the next version (Monterey), I did a video on getting Monterey on unsupported hardware as well. You can find it here: ruclips.net/video/gF89n4TKurs/видео.html
@@jensdbe Thank you can you upgrade to Montery in the same way as using the Micropatcher automator just use the Monterey install on the usb stick instead of big sur ?
