I have an early 2011 macbook pro 13.3 laptop. Tried installing Monterey, Ventura, and Sonoma. All worked fine with OCLP installed. Settled on Ventura for these reasons: 1) Many apps are no longer supported on Monterey such as Pages, Numbers, and Keynote. 2) Sonoma is too slow and some programs such as Firefox often froze, and 3) Ventura is zippier than Sonoma and all the programs I have tried so far worked without a glitch. Only is issue is the nag from apple to upgrade to Sonoma in the System Setting which ignore. So far very happy with the upgrade. Allows me to use my laptop with more modern apps without a problem
11:14 I looked at several other video's how to create a usb drive, but missed that part how to check and set the model. So I wondered why the progress bar did not advanced... Thanks for that!

I just installed Sonoma on my test SSD on Mac Pro 5,1 2012. Went very smooth. Actually it was easier than Ventura. Thank you again for easy installation video!!! :)
FYI, few pointers from my experience. 1. I was able to install Sonoma on Samsung 1TB NVMe but I had to use OCLP 0.6.8, I could not use latest OCLP v.1.1, it kept giving me blank screen after installation 2. I used OCLP v.1.1 for root patching after Sonoma installed and it worked fine
Working amazing on both my old macs, mid 2015 running 100% smooth, mid 2012 does not feel as snappy (had Linux install before) but still very useable. Thank you very much 😊

Great video and tutorial Jessie. I don't see the link to your discord group. I run a Mac Pro Users Group on Facebook, we always post your new video's, especially how to install OCLP with a PC graphics card, and how to EnableGOP on a 5,1 Mac Pro.
How does your 2013 MacBook Air performs in SONOMA with only 4gb of ram? Is it any good for day to day tasks (web browsing and using Microsoft office suite)? Thanks for the great tutorial!
Going to try this now on my mbp 2015! Just wanted to ask - some reviews on the internet say the old machines heat a lot after this. Has it happened to you? What has been your experience like? I have the AMD graphics version of MBP 2015 with 512gb SSD. Thank you for your work!
Jessie, thanks for the great tutorial - very clear and concise. I have an older 2011 27" iMac (12,2) - I know your recommendation is 2012 and later, I do have 16gb memory and replaced the hard drive with a 1TB SSD. The last supported OS was High Sierra - and I have bootcamp running Widows 10 which I was planning to remove. I know the graphics card is non-metal - so there will be functionality loss. The machine is not my main computer and would otherwise go into storage. Do you know of any issues that would prevent OCLP from completing on this machine? thanks
my 2011 iMac runs latest Sonoma fine, just all maps don't work (also in photos and weather app) and sometimes Safari freezes the iMac for about 30 seconds - but the rest works...
Quick question: I installed and everything works like a charm on my iMac late 2015. Now that everything works fine should I back up everything on Time Machine HD or should I keep it with the previous original state back up before the patch? Well done for your job. Subscribed.
Great video! I have the same MacBook Air 2015 with 4gb ram currently with Monterey. Need to ask you what is the performance of the MacBook Air with these specs running Sonoma? Does it perform decently? Or is it too sluggish ? Can you comment on that please? Thanks
Hi Jessie! Thank you for another top notch tutorial video! I'm curios, when doing a clean install, do you recommend formatting the hard drive to APFS, macOS Extended (Journaled) or does it even matter? Thanks! All the best to you and yours! I hope you are enjoying your visit to the U.S.A.!!! ~ MJ
I have tried oclp and I have to say that you will need to check the gpu issues section before choosing the suitable operating system for your device. certain apps require metal or legacy gpu drivers. and this causes some minor bugs.
Thanks for making such great video, Jessie. i have a question, my 5,1 is currently runnning Montery with OCLP. hi , i just became a fan of your's such a good way of explanation. Its a request can you please upload the tutorial to install the lasted IPAD OS in old ipad such as ipad mini 2 which i have. would be really appriciated.
Ok, Im back with resolved issues. 😁 My MBP 2012 was running Sonoma 14 and OCLP 1.1.0. When 14.1 came out , I thought, "Im good with OCLP" lets do the upgrade. It bricked my Macbook. Got to the 30 percent progression indicator and never went forward. I tried all the suggestions from Mr. Mac but nothing worked. I had recently replaced my 500gb SSD with a 2 TB SSD and kinda messed up my BOOTCAMP partition for Windows. After getting bootcamp working, finally, I ended up with a defunct 400gb bootcamp partition that was just wasting space. The "bricking" of my MBP gave me incentive to just do a "wipe clean" fresh install. I created installing media using 1.1.0 OCLP and Sonoma 14.1 install file. Everything worked perfectly including reclaiming my 400gb bootcamp defunct partition. I dont know why the upgrade path didnt work for me but the wiping of the SSD and starting fresh sure as hell worked. Great channel BTW.
Thanks a lot for this video, very useful ! I have one question. Is it possible to keep one Volume with Monterey and one volume with Sonoma on the same disk (with a Mac Pro 2013) ? Thanks for your advice.
I think that you should explain to everyone that before you try to upgrade ..you should upgrade ram and go for an ssd drive...that would definitely make the computers snappier...thanks

I was downloading Sonoma and stepped away from my 2012 Mac Pro and it ran the installer . When I got back it was running Sonoma but absolutely sluggish. No graphic acceleration. Tons of issues like Bluetooth and Wi-Fi not working. I rolled back to Monterey real quick on the NVMe. So this is a problematic OS for a Mac Pro. Let me know your thoughts when testing. I don’t see it being compatible unless they really write some amazing patches
I ran the latest root patch and also did the post install patch. Remember mine was an upgrade from Monterey so maybe that’s the issue. Or maybe it was because the OS is on an NVMe? Is there NVMe support built into the patch? I will test as a fresh install on another Mac Pro using a SSD this weekend

Going to try this now on my mbp 2015! Just wanted to ask - some reviews on the internet say the old machines heat a lot after this. Has it happened to you? What has been your experience like? I have the AMD graphics version of MBP 2015 with 512gb SSD. Thank you for your work!

Great tutorial, @JessiesFlying. I noticed you suggest hitting the Ctrl button when booting up and choosing the boot disk. Is that necessary?
Nope, it just sets it as standard boot option
Jessie, thanks for the great tutorial - very clear and concise. I have an older 2011 27" iMac (12,2) - I know your recommendation is 2012 and later, I do have 16gb memory and replaced the hard drive with a 1TB SSD. Great channel BTW.
thx
