    Just shows you Apple doesn’t care about the environment, these computers could be supported for many more years but they choose not too for profit not innovation.

    Everything works great, I have the same iMac 2013 as in the video. One important note - if you split your disk into multiple volumes, your SSD from Fusion Drive will most likely stop working and stay on the old volume, resulting in slower OS booting and file handling.

Wanted to ask you, what hardware do you use, what screen recording and are you doing voice overs once the recording is done? I would like to learn about the method you are using to make these fine efficient clear videos. Thank you

    • @jensdbe
      @jensdbe  Год назад +1

      I can explain shortly although this is not the best video for it.
      Typically I prepare and have more or less in my head what I will do and in which order. Then I actually do it and film it + recently also do a capture with a HDMI capture card as soon as I do something with software. Afterwards I go through the material and write the story/voiceover and record that. The story kind of determines how the video/screencapture will be used. Once I have that, I edit everything together according to the story and voiceover into the final video.
      Tools I typically use for that: 4K camera, HDMI capture card, OBS for capture, Audacity for audio recording and DaVinci Resolve for video editing.

Since it kept crashing I had to go into safe mode to rebuild a new thumb drive install. Then OpenCore Legacy Patcher 5.3 would not see the thumb drive. For some reason Ventura screwed the USB ports I guess but after I switched to another USB port, OpenCore Legacy Patcher finally saw the thumb drive. Ok ... I I want to try out Ventura on a partition on a new SSD drive, do I need to go through a external usb storage on a second usb port or it is easier than installing on internal SSD and can install it directly on the partition? (like on the stick) and I choose from which drive to boot from during startup?

    • @jensdbe
      @jensdbe  Год назад

      The USB drive contains the installer and not the actual OS that gets installed. So still easier to create a USB drive like in the video and then prepare and select your new SSD drive. I think it should also work with a separate partition on an internal drive but haven't tried that. During boot you will be able to choose where to boot from. Either from the original bootloader (by holding down Alt/Option at boot) or in OpenCore, once installed.

    Thanks for the video it is great and easy to follow and I am about to upgrade my MBP from Big Sur to Ventura. What I am worried about is my data and my programs. Question 1: do I have to re-install my programs like MS Word and Acrobat, after upgrading to Ventura? I have a complete backup on an external disk and Question 2: If Ventura does not improve the performance or something goes wrong during installation, can I just go back to Big Sur using the time machine backup? I am running a MBP 15" mid 2012, i7, 16 GB, with Big Sur installed with the use of OCLP which is running fine. Could any one please advise me?

    Great tutorial, very clear instructions. But can someone help with an issue I’m having. I download the OS which is visible in the application folder as in the tutorial, but when I do the next step and I assume copy it over to the usb flash drive (I’m using a 32GB one) it copy’s over 130meg on the progress bar, pauses for a while and then goes upto 270meg ish and then the progress box vanishes. Surely it hasn’t copied the full OS over in that time? And ideas? I’ve tried independently formatting the flash drive and starting again, but always the same issue. Help much appreciated 😊

      Make sure you erase/format the whole drive in Disk Utility by selecting to show All devices first. If that doesn't help, I would suggest to try another USB drive.

      You don't see the drive when continuing the install or in Disk Utility?
      It could be that there is a too old file system present or something else is wrong with the drive maybe. In most cases, by erasing the drive with Disk Utility, this gets solved. Your device should be supported normally.

      You can just update it as any other Mac. The only thing that can happen is that the patches that were applied are being overwritten. Just make sure you download a copy of the Patcher before doing the update, then run the root patches after the update completed.

      Open Core needs to be specifically built for a specific Mac. You can build it on another Mac but then you wouldn't be able to use it to install Ventura. Also, opening up this type of iMac requires removing the screen in order to install another drive, so I guess a thumbdrive is a bit easier :)

    This doesn't work if Ventura is installed on a USB SSD? Because I just did that, installed fine, runs fine, it's just it doesn't boot to it without the USB pen drive plugged. It keeps booting into the internal HDD in my iMac. Open Core keeps popping up at startup to install it to disk, I installed it multiple times, still doesn't work. Any ideas? Is it because the SSD is connected via USB or maybe something went wrong?

    • @trei2unu
      @trei2unu 7 месяцев назад

      @@jensdbeApparently the issue was indeed that I kept installing OpenCore on the USB SSD (which I thought I should) but after your reply I installed it on the internal HDD and now it works. USB drive no longer needed to be plugged in, after I turn the iMac on the HDD and SSD options appear for like 5 seconds and then boots into Ventura. So thanks a lot! Now I'm confident in trying Sonoma too. Then sometime in the future probably replace the HDD with an SSD altogether and give this beautiful machine a new life.
