    Thank You
I am 66 years old considered a senior, I don't feel like a senior at all, but I am a rookie at MacOS and I was able to install Ventura on my MacBook Pro 2013 flawlessly. I am very Greatfull to you and the whole team especially with your soft voice and your detailed explanations throughout the video, spending the time putting this all together for us rookies.
    Very Much appreciated

I am 71 and I managed to make it work...though I don't really know how I did it. Like bowling for the first time and managing a strike with the first roll of the rock. But I am so grateful to all the people that made this happen. I love my Macbook Pro (2012 mid) and now get to keep on loving it. I also plan to make a contribution to Open Core. Saved me and everyone else a lot of money. Carry on!

just installed ventura in my imac 21,5 late 2013 and works even faster than big sur, which i’ve been using almost half a year and installed back then because of your really HELPFUL tutorial. btw, continuity camera is working absolutely fine with my iphone 13 mini on ios 16.4 :)
stage manager, airplay on mac, everything works absolutely fantastic in this machine. and even boot time was surprisingly good! only 30(!!!) seconds with an internal ssd! no worry guys, come on and give your mac a second chance to live!

I think it's important to note that Apple sold MBP 2015 models well into 2018. I purchased one Fall of 2018 and paid a hefty price. For these customers to only get up to Monterey OS is not what promotes a sense of loyalty. Basically, that's only 3 updates from 2018. Inability to have Ventura on a system that's barely 4 years old is unacceptable. Disappointment is an understatement. I am grateful for Mr. Macintosh and the people working on OCLP for their efforts.

On the same note, my computer is getting a Monterey update even now that Ventura is released. I think Ventura has a few updates that older computers dont have the hardware to implement. Overall MacOS tends to have smaller updates and I do not feel threatened that Apple does not provide the update to my MBP 2015

The Intel Mac's are going to be not supported quickly. Apple wants Intel behind them quickly.

The second the last Intel Mac loses support, open core will no longer work sadly, apple will do what they did with the powerpcs, and stop supporting the Chip in newer updates

What an absolutely wonderful service you are providing, and the quality of this video and instructions are top notch! I have one question/suggestion. Considering the importance of properly backing up one's system and creating rescue media before attempting an update, have you considered creating a step-by-step tutorial for that? No doubt there are countless videos from other creators covering this process, but you explain things in such a clear and dare I say comforting way, I think it would really help your viewers to cover all their bases without having to search out other content. Forgive me if you've already made such a video; I could not find it.

Do you happen to have any idea how it would really mean the world if you could tell me step-by-step how to do it Because if this is disabled, then having a time machine back up, doesn’t really matter now because we can’t get to it. Really hope you can help me out.

We were given a free early 2015 13” MacBook Pro for parts some months ago, it had some evidence of water damage but the only failed component was the SSD module which we upgraded from the stock 128GB to a 512GB. Very usable on Monterey and even after upgrading to Ventura with OCLP, compared to my 2009 iMac which was totally unusable once updated to Sierra. I recieved a 2014 27 imac i7 with an R9 for free over a year ago because it had no screen on it. I finally got around to replacing the screen and on it. It’s super cool to see it running Ventura. It only took about 25 minutes for the entire process upgrading from OCLP Monterey. I will be looking at the computer some more tonight to see if it has any issues. I did have to install the post patch but that was it! thanks again to everyone involved in this project.
I have been using OCLP now since Big Sur. I receive free broken computers from buy nothing sell nothing groups in my community. I then spend about $21 on a small SSD, and install OCLP on these computers and give them away to community members and kids. Most of the time I show them a quick down and dirty about how to update the computers and support them if they have any issues. OCLP is single handidly helping run nonprofits and intiatives in communities that need help. What an awesome piece of work.

@@Mr.Macintosh The project started during the pandemic when I was a Development Director for a nonprofit in St.Louis City. Many of the youth I worked with needed computers to continue their education toward their GED at my center. I couldn't get enough grant funding to pay for devices and hotspots, so I started this project. After I left the NP, people in the community continued to reach out to me, and I no longer had any grant funding for devices, so I just started sourcing them from buy nothing groups. Sadly, I can't fulfill all the requests I get due to my supply only being free Macs, lol! So whenever I find something really cheap or discarded, I spend my own money on the device and SSD. I usually have spare ram to at least make them 8GB. I've ventured into fixing ipads as well when I am able to get them for free.
Paper packaging and thinner boxes from Apple are not contributing to environmental activism; keeping devices running, although constant pushback from Apple is helping change the world.
From a scientist trying to change the world one computer at a time, thanks!

I work as a local computer consultant, and my niche is helping older folks with their computer issues. Many times a client will get a new Mac and give me their old one for refurbishing. Yesterday I brought home a 14,1 iMac (2013) which had topped out with Catalina. I went with the OpenCore patcher and installed Ventura without a hitch. The magic here is that this 9 year old computer now has another ten years of useful service. This machine has full access to all the latest apps in the Apple store, and even with stock mechanical 1Tb HD, it runs nice and snappy. I already have a buyer, it sold for $300. If this were a Windows computer of the same year and spec, I would be lucky to get $100, even if loaded with latest Windows. The used Mac market is lined with gold nuggets, especially with the OpenCore patcher hack. Thanks very much!

@AJ nope, official support mean a lot of work. Users call the help desk, if performance are not optimal they blame apple not they dated hardware or misunderstood of features and resources. Those kind of comments show the distance between US (geeks online) to the real world

    • @josephfredbill
      @josephfredbill Год назад +9

@AJ my point was that they could easily support this project by providing information and maybe a little funding while continuing their commercial activities. I think its reasonable to not support devices for ever but they could at least support those people who want to do this and a little recognition from Apple could earn them many status points in the community. The used to be beloved by programmers because they were so open - not now it seems. Their finances are healthy, they could give back a bit and recognise that many people cant afford to stay up with their latest devices.

I use it often - its a good spare machine and sometimes I’ll be on a zoom call on one machine and making notes and doing email on another, side by side. The 2012 works well (well it did before today - see my other comments) and isnt slow. Its also handy to have several because if there’s something risky I can install it on a less-important machine without risking my main work machine. They are fairly in sync (they started in sync).

Apple is all about profit. They say they are green and re-cycle, but that is only if it’s profitable to do so. Making old computers work with new systems is not in their interest and they say they will not assist as it will give the user a lower quality system. It is that simple, it is all about profit. No problem. We have our super star coders that will help us poor apple users that simply can not afford to replace our Mac’s every 5yrs. Those coders and this website are literally our hero’s and I for one really appreciate their products. You guy our our superhero’s and we all love you for keeping our old Mac’s going. This is fantastic, thanks so much for taking the time to create all this content, I've watched a few of your videos & checked the resources on your site, and the work you (& your team?) do is brilliant! I'm currently running two mid 2012 13" MacBooks on unsupported Monterey (had some video playback bugs in Ventura in FCPX & Browsers), using Kyrptonite to run unsupported eGPU (overall it packs quite a punch for an old setup for modern video & audio editing). I managed to combine the EFI packages by installing/booting kryptonite into the temporary location that OpenCore Patcher writes its kexts/resources into, via the terminal installer for kryptonite - as it asks for OpenCore Build install locations. the ONE thing I couldn't seem to figure out was how to force the FireWire to boot (even when using OpenCore's Firewire Boot) - is there a way to override this or use terminal to enable? The MacBook I have has native Firewire ports.
