It's not just so she doesn't get involved in the Yakuza life but because she's happy. More then anything, he wanted her to be happy. The later games show that she was. So he decided to move on and become the Mad Dog, in essence, living his best life. Even if he was alone

    • @Khanstant

@@StrifeSoul990 It's not his best life, though, that's what makes it tragic. He is left empty, seeking more and more extreme fights just to feel something again. He always seems happiest when he is with friends, but it's hard for the mad dog to make friends by his nature and design. Hell, even helping out the hostesses and clubs that benefit locals he cares about seemed to make him truly happy, making that difference in the world around him. However, those who break through clearly mean a lot to him because deep down he is a lover and friend, his fighting comes from his determination and loyalty -- until 0 when everything is stripped away from him painfully and he has to adopt the mad dog persona to keep it together.

Yet for some reason it was not problem to him with Mirei Park (that he married and divorced off-screen beforehand) in Yakuza 5. This game was published right after Yakuza 5. Consistency - what does that taste like? :)
P.S. The scripting of Yakuza games went to shit after Yakuza 2. It is a small miracle Yakuza 0 turned out as well as it did. The previous two games (Yakuza 4 and Yakuza 5) were absolute trainwrecks in plot quality.

    1. I actually kind of like that Kiryu and Majima never meet.
    2. I get why Majima changes in the story, particularly because an appearance of insanity is a great defence against people trying to use you and Majima learns he’s been used at every turn in his story. The other aspect to adopting the Mad Dog is Shimano playing him. Being that predictable, he discovered, was a liability. So the unhinged put-on becomes in part a nihilistic bid to live life on his own terms and have some fun with it a la Nishitani, but it also becomes a smokescreen allowing him to mask his real feelings, intentions, and motivations from the kind of people who would manipulate him. It's why he lets the Mad Dog mask slip around people he trusts; he figures they aren't going to manipulate him.

You did a great retrospective. The worst part is that Yakuza 0 had one of the easiest platinum of all Yakuza's when it was first released. If you think lack of information regarding the catfight minigame was bad you should've seen how bad it was being a fan of Yakuza back when English guides were rarely available, I remember getting a platinum for the original version of Yakuza 3 was grueling and Yakuza was so niche bad then....
Legend on Yakuza 0 only lets you save manually, but that's how it was in all the older Yakuza games too, had to go to the telephone between missions, hope you packed a lot of the healing drinks because the next mission you go on could be an hour or two long. One of the Yakuza's even had you fight against Kiryu as a boss fight while you controlled a different protagonist, it was agonizing. But I agree with you completely, going for platinum or 100% is too stressful, I just aim for main story and all substory completion - which still requires mini-games sometimes but not too bad.

IMHO, Majima's story in 0 is about restrained lunacy. He certainly has snapped because of his punishment and he knows it, so he buries it deep with showmanship and absolute host act. Just meeting certain characters like Nihitani and the utter convuleted stuff Makoto has to go makes him just him decide that he should life to his fullest and stop being shackled down. He said it himself and it's bit hamfistedby others too, but throughout 0, he meets folks he would have been great friends IF things just were different.
Heck, even when he puts on the iconic jacket and lets Sagawa know what's up, he still comes bit restrained. It's hard to shake off your mental habits after they been on for so many years.

Well no shit - Shinada has the power to stop time. A 1 second hit window becomes a 5 to 10-second hit window. That makes the insanely large hit window of Yakuza Kiwami 2's Serene Bat look difficult in comparison. You pretty much cannot miss a shot as long as you have slow-motion juice left. If you use it at the last moment, you will never run out of the juice. I had been focusing on Yakuza's main stories, currently being midway through Yakuza 4, while ignoring a lot of the side content. I wondered if I was rushing the games and should go back and enjoy everything they have to offer. This video reassured me that I made the right decision.
There are a few times in the video where you talk about a perceived lack of testing. Quality assurance testing is largely misunderstood. It focuses on whether the game works as intended. Now, that intent can still be bad or poorly thought out, but a tedious trophy requirement, or poor UX design such as the lack of a restart option is not a testing fail. It might be raised as a suggestion, but it would be assigned minor status, would not prevent the game from going gold, and - more often than not - be seen as out of scope.
A lot of the issues you mention are design issues, and final testing is usually a case of too little, too late if poor decisions were made by the game designers. It could be better, yeah, but it technically works and, in most cases, no one's going to give you the human resources, budget, or deadline extension to action that improvement.

I wanted to know what happened in the story, so my first time through, I did a little side content, but mostly ran through. Now I'm going back and completing them and the best part is you can use your clear save data to start a new game plus and it's way more fun to complete everything when you've already unlocked all the combat abilities and have a bunch of money.
You make some good points, my knowledge of game design isn't great so I could have described my issues without saying "it wasn't play tested.". That makes sense though, are you really going to be worried about adding a restart option to climax battles when the game needs to meet a deadline.

Depending on what their most damaging move is and whichever move they previously used you can easily use common sense to figure out which move they’re gonna do next. For example if their strongest move is Rock and it’s early in the fight they almost never use rock, so you can be safe using scissors since it’s either a tie or you win

One way I have found to deal with Mr. Shakedown is weapons especially golf clubs and knifes. Basically, you dodge his attacks get some punches in and raise heat, based on the fighting style you gain heat for quick stepping at the right time too and after you get a bar of heat pull out a dagger or golf club and do the heat action and wash, rinse, repeat. I personally use the dragon diver which I feel does significant damage especially on the first bars but does cost 100mil and ofc you have to drop a bag on dragon and tiger but like I said it can be any dagger or club I just find that one the most rewarding. I don’t know if this has been mentioned already or if it’s a popular meta but is something I found out that helps a lot, just some cheese I wanted to share. Also if the attacking for the heat is too much work or too risky for you then you can always fill inventory with tauriner ++ and cheese.

I never even figured out how to get any of the fighting style skills that were locked-off, I never did the real-estate minigame, I never sent people to get crafting materials for weapon upgrades, and I despised doing the rock, paper, scissors wrestling minigame.
As much as I loved the game, there was no real reason for me to partake in any of the weird, yet thoughtfully fleshed-out mechanics that this game offered because the main story of this game was too much of a banger to care about much else. There was a dialoged when he's talking, saying he saw some crazy people live and die crazy and he was going to live like that from now on. I didn't get the exact quote but it's why he became the mad dog. Even the last talk with Sagawa, it was symbolizing that he was set free. It made perfect sense to me, even in later games he starts to mellow out a little bit, even towards the end in like a dragon, he isn't as "Crazy" as he was in Kiwami and Kiwami 2. Plus, it was also another time, when he met pak-san and had his baby, so he probably was crazy for little bit.

They don’t understand it, don’t know how to play, and spend hours upon hours failing and getting nowhere. How do I know this? Because I did it. I wasted hours and hours trying to brute force it in Judgement. It wasn’t until I finally forced myself to learn the bare bones of the games that I actually started getting somewhere and found it enjoyable. By the time I played this game, I spent maybe a few hours doing all the mahjong challenges. My rarely lose cat fight strategy is this:
Look at the stars on the moves. Your opponent will want to start with her strongest move so pick the one that counters it. If you win, likely your opponent wont pick that same move again but instead the one that would counter whatever you picked previously. Figure out what that is and do the same. If you lose, your opponent likely will use the move again so just figure out what makes the most sense from there. If you both pick the same sign then the opponent will likely try to counter that sign. You can win with even a relatively weak girl with this.
This isnt based on datamining or even anyone elses play through, just my personal experience. I tend to pick girls based on multiplier as well as who it looks like theyll face in the tournament. I didn't know the flavor text affected how well they would do

4:10 that point there you've mentioned is one HUGE problem with all the yakuza games i played, terrible in-game guides which leads the players to search all over the web for guides. take for example that man over at gamefaqs named cyrcz, he made tons of guides on that site for many different games but he's mainly known for his yakuza guides (to the point where he is titled "dragon of gamefaqs" on reddit), this only means one thing; sega and rgg suck at explaining the game's system which in turn leads to either the player sticks to one type strategy to complete the game or just drop the idea of playing the game entirely.
i personally plated every main game in the series except yakuza 5 and i must say this, the more you dig in them the more bored and disappointed you get.
in my opinion the only games worth playing in the franchise are (0 , 6 , 7 and kiwami 1) and don't go for the plat.

The cat fight mini-game can go right to hell though. I can never beat it due to it being so luck based and mashing the buttons worn me out. I’m glad that Kiwami 1 managed to make a better version of it. It’s still not great as it’s partly RNG, but the button mashing’s completely gone.

Mr. Shakedown was fun to learn to fight with Weapons; I had problems with Mahjong until I learned the Art of "Square Button to Riichi" , then it was more fun! Batting Cages was simple to pick up to learn; and I'm not joking, learning it has made all but 2 Batting Attempts in Kiwami into Perfect Runs... Darts wasn't that bad, just do Hat Tricks; but Pool was tough yea...
As for Defending Makoto... I, learned my Lesson from first Run and just "Guns ex Machina" each time I needed to do it
Overall, I had a blast! There are some downs, but the Highs outweigh the Lows in my opinion. But did I need to spend 210hrs doing it... No... But the Time has also helped me when going into Kiwami and picking up with a lot of the same moves and fighting styles. So, I'd say a time worth spend... Except for Catfights... and a Little bit for Mesuking, but it has a nice payoff at least

Telephone club wasn't that bad. You've got 3 pairs of girls (blue, green, white bikini), you need to did pick one colour do one girl, remember her voice and than aim in the second girl with same bikini but another voice. Tone of voices of both girls are always easy to recognize, because actually girl got soft and nice voice, and this second "bad" choice got less pleasent voice. Just remember to hang up (with L1 button) every time when you pick the call from girl with the same voice. It took max 15-30 minutes to accomplished all 6 soories.

I just got my platinum for 0 last night and Christ I didn’t have a lot of fun, normal I’m fine with mindless repetition and for most of this game I was, but cat fighting, climax battles, and mahjong all pissed me off too much. For mahjong everything was easy when I learned how to play, but getting a 6 Han haneman was almost impossible for me. Aside from the three games I mentioned everything else wasn’t hard, just boring. And most of your complaints in the video are completely justified. 0 will always be in my top 3 yakuza games and 100% just made me love and appreciate it more

The points about hunting down mr shakedown and substories are really weird considering both have items to find them easily.

    • @chadicusprime
      @chadicusprime  Год назад

Well the encounter finder can be missed so for the average player they may not have that. My issue was the sub stories wasn't that you can't find them, but instead that if you get to close to them, it forces you to stop what you're doing and start that sub story. Even on my legend playthrough their were some I walked right into and had to stop what I was doing to start it. I may not have explained that very well in my video

It's the only Yakuza game where I didn't complete all of the substories, because the disco mini game is ridiculously hard. Even for Yakuza standards. A lot of Yakuza games have sub stories tied to infuriating mini games. Dragon Cart of Yakuza Like a Dragon instantly comes to my mind here. But with enough trying and suffering I eventually beat all of them. The dance mini game in Yakuza 0 however requires some kind of coordination, I am just very bad at. Every replay I spent a few days trying those sub stories, but I just can't.

@@chadicusprime for me it's hard to add additional steps. And in my opinion this doesn't really make sense for a rhythm game. Because in order to add additional steps you have to move faster than the rhythm. I managed to do ok, when I go to the symbols directly. And usually every button press matches the rhythm then. But for the hardest dance battles this isn't enough. As soon as I try to put in extra steps I mess up all the inputs and either don't make it to the symbol in time or I make it to the symbol too early and press the button too early, because I am completely out of rhythm.
I am just not good at this kind of coordination.
