The reason so many substories in Kiwami were scam artists is because they were remnants of the original Yakuza. It was possible to fail them and you wouldn’t get to retry them. Amon really was super secret & a missable fight in the original.
Who the hell is Amon? I keep seeing people mention him but I have not seen him in Yakuza Kiwami nor in Yakuza 0. I have played through the game but I've not completed every single substory.

Fun fact if you don't interact with the traffic cone for majima everywhere you can play the entire game without increasing your majima everywhere rank :) I accidentally did it by mistake cause I genuinely saw nothing out of the ordinary about a giant traffic cone next to a car
Just gonna correct a couple of mistakes here: 1. Kiwami is a _remake,_ not a remaster. All of the voice lines and character models were re-created from scratch, and it's not built on the original engine, nor is it entirely faithful to the original story. It adds depth to Nishikiyama's character by giving us his backstory, which is completely absent in the original game. 2. Kyoudai (兄弟) is Japanese for "sibling", or more specifically, "brother". Nishikiyama is Kiryu's sworn brother.
Yeah, weapon collecting was surprisingly difficult for completion. Lot of them were from lockers & coliseum rewards. Could only be found in one specific place. But you can actually get weapon mastery upgrades as part of the Dragon style upgrades. If you use the Calming Towel from climax battles, you can stay at 1st Heat and have infinite durability.
Great retrospective of Yakuza Kiwami! I've played both the original and Kiwami and they're not identical games but they're pretty much extremely similar, Kiwami definitely has many quality of life improvements. The funniest thing with the original Yakuza was that it had a 2000's style English dub with Mark Hamil as Majima lol. It's really great to hear you platinumed this more easily than your other Yakuza playthroughs. 21:00 I loved this mini-game but I'm probably the only one who does, I used to play Virtua Cop which was an arcade game published by Sega, this plays similar to the point where I think it's the same devs, but they're so much fun for me. It'd tough to explain how to get through that section though, you need to go back and forth a lot, you need to clear all the weak enemies, then hit the boss/mini-boss a bit, then you hit the new weak enemies that spawn, and you repeat the process. Well not necessarily destroy the weak enemies, you need to keep interrupting them back and forth but you get the idea.
Thats almost worth playing for Mark Hamill alone haha that's actually a really good fit. I think I might have just been bad at that gun section because I've seen a few people say they beat it pretty quickly or even on their first try. Something about the aiming I just couldn't get down very easily
As someone who has recently 100% completed the "Yakuza Restored" version of Yakuza 1, which updates the localization, I can definitely say that Yakuza 1 is dated but fun. An aspect of the remake I dislike is the fact that it's basically just 0 with a new coat of paint. the original Yakuza had this very interesting crowd control focused gameplay which was distinct from the rest of the series, and it's a real shame that Kiwami didn't try to replicate or update that in any way.
Im starting to develop a habit of beating these games and returning to your reviews to see what pain i avoided by not going to 100%. Your hardwork is not going unappreciated.
As someody who is still completing Kiwami ( exept for Majong it's to Complicated for me ) this Video was incredible reassuring because i did notice that kiwami is easier to complete than 0 but this Video gave hope that i could complete this one before new years
I actually decided to try haruka's requests after completing it in Kiwami 2. Honestly it wasn't as bad as I originally thought it would be but maybe that was just because I had more luck in the Bowling and Pool challenges. I will add though for the final request being the batting challenge on hard it was fitting that after I got enough score that Majima pops out and l am forced to fight him for the 300th time and he denies me from getting the request completed so I am forced to try it again. I'm not the biggest fan of Majima everywhere in the later chapters... I know the Beads of Good Fortune reduce him to only ambushes and events (like this one) but he will never go away.
I think Haruka's request is a really cool way of having a completion list. Even if it repeats, it's a lot more fun to complete all the tasks with a buddy that comments on everything. Yea, that's my biggest problem with the majima fights. The fights against majima were my favorite fights in the game, he had so many different outfits and cutscenes, but it still gets stale after a while and their's nothing you can do to stop him from coming.

For me the only boring part about this game was the coliseum grind for the 100% in the end I just sell a bunch of weapon and gear and got the 100%. Man you grind was real, complete this game is a lot harder than just plat. Also in Y3 you have to do 10 hostess and the max rank is higher than is in k1 hahahaha not funny at all

@@chadicusprime man that’s nice to know, I heard people saying that 5 was hard because of some akyama coliseum (the berserker). Which combat upgrades are you talking? If you’re talking about mack, the scientist , komaki and the revelation you should get it before start the hard mode run but the upgrades regarding the levels you should not worry, about half of the hard run you should have enough xp to get max out. For hard and legend just use golden pistol for everything regarding majima in chapter 7 and mine in chapter 12. Each run for me took me about 3 hours, they were very fast I started on a Saturday night and end in a Sunday morning considering the two speed runs on hard and legend. Mack upgrades are essencial since in legend he is a bitch without the upgrades. For me 3 took 86 h but 12 of those were with 50 k mahjong hahaha

Now I'm trying to complete komakis training. I need one more komaki move which I need another upgrade to unlock. I'm also trying to get all the coin locker keys to get all the cheat items and the gear that turns off street encounters lol. I forgot roulette and most of 0's gambling games are in 3, I'm gonna hate the completion for that haha
Haven't finished the video yet but: while the complaint about substories triggering too easily at intense moments in the main plot is warranted, I think that devs didn't even consider it happening because typical players would've activated them long before chapter 10 lol
I really enjoy these videos! I myself only do the trophies which I think are not that big of a pain in the ass but I don't plan to platinum these games.
In all fairness, this game released at a substantially lower price point than any previous Yakuza title ($30 USD if i recall correctly?) so it being remotely of similar quality to the others is actually a huge boon.
I played Kiwami "100%" (not mahjong because i can´t learn that no matter what). I will get nightmares from Haruka Pool challenge because i spent 2 hours there and I almost wanted to give up and perhaps the weapon requirements where it existed 107 weapons the game wanted me to get 100. holy moly what a pain it was. Overall it was a fun experience I loved the progression plus Majima Everywhere. Coliseum was fine but until I got tiger drop rip. Still I had fun for the most part.
I disagree about weapons but thats because they are GOATED for damage if you only use them for hest actions. The same is true in 0. You can fight Shakedown and Majima veru eefecti ely with a buch of heat items and a dagger
To me the Kiwamis do kinda fail to bring on what was really good about the originals, which is why I do want people to play the OG 1 and 2 either on the PS2 or on the emulator as they are worth it, especially the sequel as it does a lot of things right and even the combat feels less dated. The visuals too are still amazing compared to the console it was on.
I have 4 trophies left for the Platinum and your video is motivating me to go back after I’ve lost my savedata… I’ve already done all the Climax battles and now the most difficult trophies I’m left with are “Complete the game in Legend mode”, “Finish the Completion List” and “Reach EX rank in Haruka’s requests.” Those are going to be annoying but I’m sure I can do it
Hi, i'm a new yakuza player, currently on kiwami 2 after kiwami 1, did you learn to play shogi and mahjong on your own with the in game manuals? I'm kinda afraid of them but i want to try my best
I used a mix of the game manuals and the walkthrough. If you look up CyricZ and kiwami 2, he has a guide for the game that includes a really helpful mahjong guide. I basically jumped into it barely knowing how to play and made very easy hands and as I got comfortable with the basics I slowly learned more and more. Mahjong definitely takes some time to get good at but you can still complete most of the challenges without knowing all the ins and outs. As for shogi, I suck at it haha I know how to play but I'm really bad. I use a shogi app and put the computers moves in the app and do whatever the app does so I'm basically playing the Yakuza shogi vs a shogi app. Good luck!
I’ve played the original and what you’ve said about Kiwami is pretty accurate, the combat in 1 is pretty janky and the combo is what dragon would eventually would become later, No Majima everywhere, and there are plenty of problems but still fun, and the bosses in the Kiwamis reuse movesets from games around 3-6, 1’s combat is pretty janky, but 2 improves on a lot of its problems
Yakuza on PS2 has an awful camera. When walking around Kamurocho, it’s fixed like the original Resident Evil games. You can’t rotate it with the right stick because it moves the mini-map.
beast and brawler in 0 are way better there cause kiwami nerfed the heat generation in most of their moves and the damage of those styles vanished as well but Dragon and Rush got some elite buffs and I do agree that the tiger drop is the best in the series in kiwami
I won't speak on brawler but I found beast to be absolutely broken, I spent at least 80% of my playthrough in beast. Resist guard, super armor and charged moves go hard, especially since the delay from charging meant enemies would stop blocking most of the time
I don't remember how long the shooting scene took for me in Kiwami. I think I completed it in a few tries, and that game was my first Yakuza game I played through. The shooting game during the story in 0 was really easy for me, I completed it on the first try. With 0, I'm not gonna bother with completing the dancing game substories cuz it's just not fun. It's luck based, which always sucks. You have to be perfect at it and wait for the game to give you the AI that messes up a lot (I'm talking about Ogita and the dancing goddess). Those missions can fuck off, it ruins the fun of Yakuza for me. Plus I just wanna move on with the story
I struggled alot aswell with the dancing minigame but are you doing it on normal or hard mode? Because easy mode actually makes it alot easier, I use dance fever on downtimes in the song so they can't get score when I'm locked doing the fever. Still is a little luck based but it is possible and I really hope you finish it if you go back to it
Oh that dance battle was 100% rigged. I played almost perfectly and kept losing, then I had one round where I missed several notes and couldn't get a combo going and somehow I won. I think it's either luck based or the ai adjusts to how well you play. I went through all the games just doing some side content here and there so I could see the story and now I'm going back and completing everything. Best part is you get to start a new game with all your upgrades and money.
@@NotSydridz I tried every difficulty, in total I tried doing it at least like 50 times. It's not fun for me so I'll just probably cheat through it on PC when I replay it on PC. Currently my laptop is too weak for Yakuza so I can only play on my PS4.
@@chadicusprime hmmm, I see. Yea, the dancing minigames are so luck based, and the AI does perform better the better you are. The only way to win is to get lucky and be good enough. I just gave up the dancing last missions, cuz as I said, it's not fun when it's so luck based. If it was only because I suck at it, well, at least I could always get better, but this RNG bullshit just pisses me off and ruins the game for me. I liked karaoke btw

I completed all of the mahjong requirements in less than 2 hours after looking at a guide on the Internet. It's almost identical to poker.

I’ve got O, Kiwami, Kiwami 2 done recently. Working on Y3 but it’s pretty rough graphic wise

I don't remember how long the shooting scene took for me in Kiwami. I think I completed it in a few tries, and that game was my first Yakuza game I played through. The shooting game during the story in 0 was really easy for me, I completed it on the first try.
With 0, I'm not gonna bother with completing the dancing game substories cuz it's just not fun. It's luck based, which always sucks. You have to be perfect at it and wait for the game to give you the AI that messes up a lot (I'm talking about Ogita and the dancing goddess). Those missions can fuck off, it ruins the fun of Yakuza for me.
Plus I just wanna move on with the story
I struggled alot aswell with the dancing minigame but are you doing it on normal or hard mode? Because easy mode actually makes it alot easier, I use dance fever on downtimes in the song so they can't get score when I'm locked doing the fever. Still is a little luck based but it is possible and I really hope you finish it if you go back to it
Oh that dance battle was 100% rigged. I played almost perfectly and kept losing, then I had one round where I missed several notes and couldn't get a combo going and somehow I won. I think it's either luck based or the ai adjusts to how well you play.
I went through all the games just doing some side content here and there so I could see the story and now I'm going back and completing everything. Best part is you get to start a new game with all your upgrades and money.
@@NotSydridz I tried every difficulty, in total I tried doing it at least like 50 times. It's not fun for me so I'll just probably cheat through it on PC when I replay it on PC. Currently my laptop is too weak for Yakuza so I can only play on my PS4.
@@chadicusprime hmmm, I see. Yea, the dancing minigames are so luck based, and the AI does perform better the better you are. The only way to win is to get lucky and be good enough.
I just gave up the dancing last missions, cuz as I said, it's not fun when it's so luck based. If it was only because I suck at it, well, at least I could always get better, but this RNG bullshit just pisses me off and ruins the game for me.

@@xXRealXx I honestly don't blame you for cheating although playing perfectly makes the AI extremely broken, so having a few intentional combo breaks might help. Do whatever you wanna do though
