Bro's, one of the best debut albums ever. Bradley Delp on vocals, and Tom Scholz on just about everything else. Band recorded one song in Los Angeles studio. Record company did not know Tom recorded the rest in his basement studio!! Based on how it sold, I don't think Epic/CBS records minded.
This album has a great story behind it. Best selling debut album for it's time, all music composed by Tom Scholz (who was an MIT student) in his basement, created some of his own effects...much more, they have a couple of great youtube videos that explores the creation of this album. You should consider this album for a full review, not a bad song on it. Have a great day guys, love your channel and passion for music.
@@allensaunders449 From what I've read the "basement tapes" had really good sound quality... Tom was a sound engineer and doing things in his basement that were done in professional studios.... Why is it that a certain type of people always want to sh!t what others have done, when they themselves could never do anything that even comes close...?
Other guitars in the artwork are for different cities... All of them colony ships carrying their cities away from a dying planet Earth. You can see it breaking apart in the background. An excellent sci-fi concept for the time.
Bought the album, immediately recorded a cassette with higher quality that you could buy pre-recorded at the time, and mostly listened to the cassette in my car. The vinyl album is still relatively new. (Geez, I gotta think about selling that stuff, some day! lol)
We’re with you, bro. It takes me back every time. The song is beautiful and haunting. It does what the song’s lyrics say: “I lost myself in a familiar song...I closed my eyes and I slipped awayyyyy....”. Boston is one of the best - 45 years on.
Probably the greatest debut rock album- ever. Sound quality- just off the charts. Nothing like it before, nothing like it since. And with headphones? WOW!
Note how the vocalist and the guitarist absolutely nail it every time. Superb! Plus lots of other little things in there that are absolutely beautiful. The bass is great, the drums are just enough and well timed. The guitar playing is magical.
“Foreplay / Longtime”, “Don’t Look Back” and “More Than A Feeling” are their best songs imho. They all have beautiful melodies, hooks that give you chills, and jaw dropping harmonies and choruses.
Great reaction guys! I've air guitared to this song more often that I care to admit. But the vocals make it. Brad Delp did all the vocals including backups and harmonies. Just a legend.

Guys, you'll appreciate this song (and entire album, really) when you realize that this was released in 1976, with that kind of incredible production/engineering recorded in a self-built basement studio by 2 guys: Brad Delp (all lead & harmony vocals), and Tom Scholz (songwriter & all instruments except drums). Scholz, a graduate of M.I.T, worked days as an engineer for Kodak Corp. and spent nights building his studio & recording demo tapes. He invented his own guitar pedals to produce the sounds that he wanted (did you notice how that pick slide stood out?). Next needs to be "Smokin'" and "Hitch a Ride".
No Pro Tools. No manipulation.....just soulful collaboration. BTW if someone would produce a song like this today I'd cry because I'd know that music was back.

This song never, ever gets old....always blows my mind. Awesome feelings and memories. This is the music/band that I grew up with and really represents 70s rock music in America.
It is hard to believe this was recorded in the guitar players basement in 1974! One of the best productions to date. This is the highest selling debut album of all time! It went platinum in 30 days! No band has ever done that to date! By now it must have sold close to a billion copies! How did they record this so well? The guitar player invented his own sound equipment to get that sound! Amazing!!
Those ringing guitars, yeah! So good. Loved being a kid and teen in the 70s! I love how his voice gets higher and higher and you can't tell where the guitar begins and his voice ends!
In 1976.....this was truly stunning. Right from the "I closed my eye, and I slipped away," blending into the guitar. Completely unique. I sat at the radio turning the dial until I found it again! Way before internet. You had no idea who they were, or if you'd ever hear it again!
My first concert was Boston at WSU in WA state in 1978. Boston had just completed world tour and was finally back home and they were pumped just like we were and sounded just like their albums! We couldn't sleep after seeing them!
I graduated from college in Boston in 1978 and this song was all over the place..being from Boston..graduating college in Boston.. and a monster band called Boston..like hitting a trifecta!
This song never fails to remind me of my first true adult love. I was in my early 20's and her and I met at work and the whole crew decided to go out to a local bar and shoot pool until 2am. Her and I kept bumping into each other at the juke box and fir the next two years we were damned near inseparable. This is one if the few songs that would bring out her sweet side and make her smile so big. But, just like Brad having to watch his Marianne walking away, I had to watch my Amy walk out of my life. This band is Tom Scholz on every instrument, recorded in his basement with old, borrowed, invented equipment and Brad Delp on vocals. The album was complete before a record deal was signed. The record company had a producer look it over and added a drummer for things here and there. But Tom Scholz, MIT genius invented the Rock Guitar pedal system for this album. He wrote every song, played every instrument, produced the music, was the sound engineer, etc. The record company would not sign him until he hired a band and taught them to play the songs. To really hear the guitar pedal and how he used it so well check out 'Hitch a Ride' in one solo he is switching the pedal and sound every few bars so you get a good idea how the invention worked. He was not only putting out the album but selling his product to every guitarist around. So every organ solo, every base line, every rhythm guitar or lead guitar and some of the drums and back ground vocals is one guy. Tom Scholz. The vocals are Brad Delp and he is amazing and one of a kind. His harmonizing with the lead guitar with his vocals is unreal. Thanks for the great reaction and sharing. Chris
Imagine doing everything except the vocals and even inventing some of the instruments. Then you put it all together and get a vocalist to sing your lyrics. That’s what Tom Scholz did. I think that we all wore this one out.

Brad Delp rest in peace does not get enough credit when people talk about great rock ‘n’ roll vocalists.
Incredible how he hits a sustained high that blows you mind and then, in the same breath, takes it up another notch.
Sadly, it's because he was a hired hand (even though his voice was AMAZING) and his career fell apart while being relatively unknown...and ended in his taking his own life
Both Brad Delp & James Dewar from Robin Trower, incredible voices.
This is one guy playing all instruments. he did it all in his basement and had a freind do the singing.
Yeah, Tom Scholz played everything but the drums whichwere played by Sib Hashian. Brad Delp did all the vocals, including harmony.
