I've said it before and I'll say it again, this is arguably the BEST debut album of all time, it had nothing but bangers, can't go wrong with any song off of it. Every song got radio air time.🎸🎸🤟😍
Totally agree!
Still have AND listen to this album😁
Truth!
Yup. Even for Boston it was impossible to beat. Peaked at the debut. Still love the rest though.
Act like this isn't commonly said about this album....
"This dude can sing..." biggest understatement for one of the greatest songs ever!
lol
He also said that "his vocal performance is Insanity"
Foreplay/Long time. Better than More than a Feeling in my humble opinion.
@@scottsumner2998
And hitch a ride even better than those two
@@scottsumner2998 More than a feeling is a better song. Foreplay/Longtime is a musical experience.
Brad Delp is the most underrated rock singer of all time. He can belt it out with control that NO ONE can match. Listen to the whole Boston debut album - for many years it was the biggest selling debut album of ALL TIME. 17 million+ copies. RIP Brad - he died by suicide in 2007. Tragic!
I saw Brad with Beatlejuice in NYC with my fiancé . He was playing Paul, and he knocked it out of the park!. I prefer his spectacular voice to Mercury's AND Steve Perry's. Brad's death was tragic for humanity; that great performer and his iconic voice silenced forever.
Couldn’t agree more!
You are not trippin.. this dudes vocals are so under appreciated.
Brad Delp has one of the all-time rock voices which is a big statement. Pure talent. Every vocal part you hear on the track was sung by him. He layered his own vocals and sang the harmonies and backing parts.
He's so incredible!
Was
Hard to say he's "underrated" but Delp is not mentioned nearly enough among the pantheon of GREAT rock vocalists.
I graduated in '79 - this debuted in '76 - so totally defined my coming of age years when there were bands putting out some of the best rock music ever
I vote this one song as THE BEST ROCK SONG OF THE 1970s
The reality that the band or any of the members are not in the Rock n Roll HOF is criminal. Where does Brad hit in the top vocalists? If you ask the common person, he’s in the top 5. If you ask the industry, for some reason people forget he even existed. Not only was he a brilliant vocalist, he was a beautiful human. I still miss him.
Who gives a shite about the RRHOF. Pure BS. I count it as influential as hemorrhoids.
We all know the rock hall of fame is a joke
Tommy James and the Shondells, The Guess Who, Boston, The Replacements, The road goes on forever and the disrespect never ends.
You have to be in the "club" to be in the rockin roll hall of fame. @@ronk2577
@@bobsawin1920 Iron Maiden not as well
Tom Scholz, a MIT trained engineer, wrote, played all the instruments and recorded this whole album (not vocals) in his Boston basement apartment. The unique sound came from devices Scholz invented. Brad Delp never gets enough respect as a singer.
Exactly. Sholz had to form the band with local musicians when he got the record deal to prove that there was a band for the label to promote. No synthesizers were used, it was all guitar and Sholz inventions. Obviously, organ and other instruments were not guitar.
As this guy said on this podcast - Brad was in the same category as Freddy Mercury, Steve Perry etc. He can do anything he wants vocally in his prime - there were no limits to Brad Delp’s range, this debut album was one of the greatest accomplishments of quality rock music ever recorded and - Brad Delp was unequivocally one of the most gifted Rock Singers in the history of the genre !
That was real music when people could actually Sing! and play their own instruments! Seems like this is the reason so many of the older generation don't think there's any real music anymore, no melody, no harmony no one plays an instrument or writes their own music and has a great voice!
Right ..some talent out there but nothing like from this era ...NOTHING!
That's why I lead them to Ren. I have restored multiple boomers' faith in the younger generation's talent using Ren as a stepping stone. I am an older Gen X, so grew up with their ridiculously awesome music before the 80s came along with its not quite as but still awesome music. The early 90s also had a big impact on Gen X (Curt Cobain was our spokesperson).
Yes exactly, before autotune! Real talent here
There are so many new bands and artists that are wonderful singer songwriters. They're going to be more independent because the methods of recording, without being manufactured by a label, is much more expensive. Check out some of the more well known newer artist like Gary Clark Jr, Alan Stone (his story is incredible btw), Billy Strings, Chris Stapleton, Grace Potter, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Nathaniel Rateliff & the Nightsweats... the list could go on and on...
@@MhantraxI'm an older Gen x too born 67. My little girl was raised on this music! She's 21 now and her and her boyfriend like this kind of music...
Boston's Foreplay/Longtime still one of the greatest rock songs of all time!!
Yes!!!!!!
Fact.....
I CONCUR
THIS *****
Yes
BOSTON .. at one time in the late 70's were the BIGGEST Band .. NEVER was a sound like Boston in the 70's
Brad Delp..R.I.P. one of the greatest voices in Rock and Roll history.
Should be noted for the record: This is NOT just an "extended note" at the end, but an extended note that hits FOUR DIFFERENT OCTAVES at the same time while holding onto that note.
Brad Delp among the vocal GOATS of all time.
Foreplay/Longtime is AMAZING!! Next Boston song.❤❤
YES! Foreplay/Longtime is a MUST!
I agree!,
Agreed!
Honey, I was privileged to be born in the era of Boston!!!!!!
I grew up in a town north of Boston. In the summers I worked for a landscaper. We used to cut the lawn at the home next to the Boston drummer (R.I.P. Sib Hashian) home. Many Fridays we’d sit on the curb eating our lunches in the sun and hear Boston rehearsing in the basement. Such warm memories thanks for the reminder. Long live Boston
How cool was that?
Wow man, so amazing. Wow.
That is awesome!!
This is the Best Debut Album of All Time Period. Every song is 🔥 on this Album.
Agreed !! 🔥
The Cars debut album was pretty good too, also from Beantown
Van Halen 1 then this one
For Sure...! Bad Co. had a great debut too.
this was not the 80s this was 1976
This is the whole Journey, Forigner, Boston, Air Supply.... Era!! ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥💯💯💯
"Maryann" is the cousin of Tom Sholtz, the founder of Boston. He said he had a huge crush on her when he was a kid.
Brad Delp was an amazing singer. He's right up there in the Pantheon with Freddie. RIP.
Better than Freddie and right next to Steve Perry ❤
Ok, so as a producer, you need to know this whole album. Tom Scholz is the guitarist, but he produced this entire album out of his basement. Many of the effects for the guitars, bass, and vocals he created and electrically engineered himself.
Then that's Brad Delp. Brad's voice is transcendent. It was a sad day when we lost him. More Boston.
The production on this album is fantastic.
Tom Scholz was a musical and engineering genius to wrote, played the instruments, and produced the album almost entirely on his own. But his true genius was getting Brad Delp as his vocalist. Delp had a voice range and variety that was only rivaled by the likes of Freddy Mercury. The results were epic. Foreplay/Longtime is a must-listen pair of songs. The Foreplay part is all about the instruments, But the Longtime section is another tour de force by Brad Delp. There is nothing bad in Boston's very unique catalog of hits.
One of the greatest songs ever recorded.
Way back in the day, no auto tune just talent.
There is nothing by Boston that DOESN'T pop. You'll start to notice that Boston sounds like a lot of other bands, and then you find out that they all actually sound like Boston because Boston pretty much invented the modern rock sound/style. You can close your eyes and throw a dart at a list of Boston songs and every single time, you'll choose a winner!
More of Boston's songs: Don't look back, Peace of Mind, Foreplay/Long Time, Let Me Take You Home Tonight
Brad Delp most definitely deserve to be mentioned in the company of Mercury. He's probably the best and most underrated vocalist in rock.
Brad Delp was the voice of Boston. He passed away in 2007. Tom Scholz essentially created the band while finishing his masters at MIT. He invented the guitar pedals that let him play effects and make the "Boston sound". Most of the first album was recorded in his basement on equipment he invented. I knew he was an inventor, but Wiki filled in the gaps for me about the extent of his creations. "Don't Look Back" is my personal favorite Boston song, but I grew up with them, and love tons of their music. I don't think it's too much to compare Delp and Mercury. They were amazing artists, and we're all better off for their music.
I wash going to say the same thing about Delp and Mercury. Two of THE best vocalists, regardless of genre.
I am one of those who have every album and have seen them live. What a band. Criminal they're not in the HOF.
Yeah I think the secondary band was called RTZ? They had some good music but it was always missing that special something from Brad
One of the greatest rock bands of all time!! Omg we blasted every Boston song on this album when we were in high school. The 70s were IT and Brad Delp is the GOAT right next to Steve Perry!! RIP ❤
100 percent agree❤!
I do not think they ever had a bad song, The first album all hits and the most recognizable sound. One of the best and longest concerts I have ever been to.
The writing and production of this song is absolute masterclass. Listen how smooth guitar fade-outs blend into Brad's voice. This is nothing but amazing.
Tom Scholz was a fucking genius, like MIT genius, and did this entire album, pretty much himself, in his basement on old ass recording equipment. One of the greatest albums ever then at that
When this album came out, it blew everybody away .
Best debut album of all time.
You're not tripping. His voice was incredible.
I'm telling you, if you grew up in the 80s, there is no way your getting out of the 80s without hearing this song several times. This was probably one of the most played song in the 80's. I can't hear this song without going back to the 80s.
THIS WAS 1976 IM A 70s brat
@@theodoreritola7641 I thought it was probably the 70s but I am 56 now and I remember things from around mid 70s up but can't tell you when they happened. I remember where I was when the Challenger blew up but I can't tell you the exact date without looking it up. My memory has never been good at that sort of detail.
that's ok lol have a great day God bless you.
This was huge way b4 the 80s were in diapers lol AND PLAYED WAY MORE IN THE 70DZ
@@DrWho453 Hi Again dr WHO just having 4un
For GOD's SAKE, please grab their debut album and react to the STUDIO version of EVERY song on the album. You will NOT be sorry. Absolutely stunning. Foreplay / Longtime is a MUST !!!
Have to second this!
Maybe the most underrated male singer of the 70's. Brad Delp.
Pegasus, the drummer with the amazing afro is Sib Hashian, who sadly passed away in 2017. A bit of trivia for you is that his daughter, Lauren Hashian, is married to "The Rock" himself, Dwayne Johnson. Unfortunately this version of the song is promotional single edit, which cuts out one of the verses. I will add my vote to the many many other commenters who have said you should listen to the entire album and react to some of the full-length album versions of the songs on there. This is an incredible debut album, and this is one of the most "perfect" rock songs of all time (in my opinion).
I actually met Sib at a cookout and have his autograph. North Shore native!!!
Sadly, a lot of people listening don't know his name (Brad Delp), RIP. However, this guy's pipes gotta be top 5 of rock singers from the era. His vocal range is B-A-N-A-N-A-S
Boston were so far ahead of their time. The music stands up against anything out there today.
Facts
I'm here for Boston. Crazy story behind Boston is the guy who started it, Tom Scholz was such an artist that he never could see when his creations were complete. He would drive the label crazy because it took him so long to finish and album. He always thought he could tweak it and make it better. Took him years.
This song still gives me goosebumps almost 50 years later! :)
1. Best debut album EVER! 2. Any song off of this album is a banger! 3. Foreplay/Longtime should be your next Boston reaction. Brad Delph was truly phenomenal!
Boston had some of the tightest harmonies in the biz!
Brad Delp one of the top 10 Greatest Rock n Roll Voices of all time.
I feel Boston is such an underrated band. They have such great tunes. His voice is up in the top 10.
No, no they were not underrated back in the day. They were HUGE.
Maybe they are for subsequent generations, but Boomers and X’ers loved ‘em.
I have literally hundreds of CDs,, but this is by FAR the BEST SONG EVER.
The writer, Tom Sholtz (lead guitar) had a crush on his cousin MaryAnn, when he was 8 years old.
And now you know, BOSTON 😊
RIP Brad Delp😢so grateful I got to see them live. His vocal capabilities are unbelievable 😂❤❤
The greatest debut album ever ! One of the biggest selling to this day
"This dude's the truth". Now THAT's an honest reaction.
Everything from that one album. Every single song.
Yep I still haven't on CD now. That kind of sucks but better than nothing some girl has the album lol😅
One of the rare albums that EVERY song was a hit played on the radio. that doesn't happen often.
Check out Kansas "Carry On Wayward Son " 🎉
and Dust In The Wind
This is a GREAT suggestion
One of the best singers ever.
Or "The Wall."
@mrhyde119 stop what? Steve Morse (Kansas) & Bradley Delp are certainly in that same wheelhouse of amazing singers of clean vocals with outSTANDING high ranges.
If you're saying that Kansas isn't in Boston's class, at least in terms of vocals. I'm a fan of progressive rock, so I take Kansas' musicianship over Boston's all day. Miracles Out of Nowhere or The Wall or Cherokee Anthem are great prog rock tunes, while Dust in the Wind of Carry On scratch the classic rock itch (even though Carry On is ALSO a prog rock classic).
There is some studio effects here. By the way Tom Sholz wrote and recorded this in his basement in a studio he built. He was a student at MIT. He also played keyboards and guitar.
RIP Brad Delp.
His voice always brings me back to high school.
Boston was basically Tom Scholtz, who played ALL the instruments on this album, and singer Brad Delp. You are NOT overexaggerating. He was one of the best vocalists of the time. But definitely a tortured soul. Ended up killing himself. I second Foreplay/Long Time.
It's funny how he is singing about loosing himself in old songs bringing back memories and getting lost in the music and today we are doing the same with their music.. 😅 I love Boston. My parents did a great job in introducing me to GREAT MUSIC! Thank you!
You nailed it. There is something about his voice that sets him apart. He can hit some high notes, but there is something soothing? I don't know if that's the right word, but It will never be replicated....God Bless!
This is one of those jams that when they come on you cant help but sing along....even if you dont know the words....lol
Brad Delp has one of the best rock voices ever. I wish he was still with us making music.
Forever playlist?
This entire album should be on it, period.
You record music listen to this album from the perspective of technology.
1. No personal computers or software
2. Recorded in a basement on a 12 track analog reel to reel tape machine
3. Many of the effects were built by guitarist Tom Scholz who engineered and produced this amazing album
4. You bring in Brad Delp on vocals which he does all the vocals on the album sonically in my opinion best album ever made still sounds fresh today and it’ll sound fresh 100 years from now every song is a work of art
I love how big your eyes got 😂😂thats what brad delps voice makes us react the first hear him he was the goat rest in paradise Brad youll never be forgotten ❤❤❤
BOSTON was the best music, ever. We in New England loved them so much and went to their concerts every time we could swing it. I'm in my 60's now, but we still say, "I don't always listen to BOSTON, but when I do, so do my neighbors!" 💥
What makes an artist exceptional to me is if you can tell who you're hearing without knowing ahead of time. Iconic sound.
You are 100% right. Brad is definitely fantastic! Thanks for praising him. He needed more praise when he was alive. ❤
A beautiful song as a dad you should listen to Man I’ll never be by Boston. It’s gorgeous
Boston - Boston is one of the best ever debut albums of all time, no joke. It so great (not good, but great). It can and will rival any album of all time debut or otherwise. You can react to every song on it, and you will love it. Promise.
Once again you've discovered a legendary band every boston song will be on your personal play list
Tom Sholz wrote the songs, played all the instruments, recorded and produced the album in his basement!
There's more complexity to the story, including making the record company think they were doing it their way, but they were really doing it Tom's way.
Check out the story on Wikipedia.
Scene Boston back in 1977 , the singer hit all the high notes, !! they played so loud my ears rang the next day! Every song on this LP is Great , Please do HITCH A RIDE next by Boston
Nope, you’re not over exaggerating-Brad Delp had amazing range!!!
Every song on Boston's BOSTON album is great
Everytime this song comes on when I'm driving somewhere... windows down, volume on 10! And goosebumps as soon as the lead solo starts!
Debut Boston album is, IMO, the best rock album of all time. Literally every song on the album got radio airplay back in the day.
This is one of the biggest rock bands in the 70's. The lead singer has an incredible voice even in any comparison.
The song you were referring to in your opening remarks is "Hooked On a Feeling," which was a hit twice: once by BJ Thomas and again by a band called Blue Swede. Both of these releases pre-dated Boston, who released the greatest debut album on rock history. There isn't a bad song on that album.
Of course, 2 minutes of Google research before recording would have told you what I just told you and made you sound way more credible.
You do know most reactors prefer to go in blind so they can have a genuine reaction, right? At least the good ones.
Reaction videos to songs they have played and researched don't really have as much appeal. In fact, I was intrigued by those opening remarks. I knew it wasn't the same song but I had a hard time going from one to the other in my mind. He sounds way more credible for his not hearing it before having mixed up the two rather than less credible.
This is a first listen reaction channel. He doesn’t have to google it
Saw them May 17, 1977 in Norfolk’s SCOPE Coliseum. We drove from Newport News. Nine people in a Firebird (yes, really). A dude pulled over in front of us and we had a head on collision in Norfolk. We WALKED the last couple miles to the concert. I had a busted lip from hitting the windshield. Grain alcohol being passed around in the concert kept the lip clean before a 2 a.m. hospital visit for stitches. GREAT BAND & CONCERT. Ahhhhhh…the 70s! 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
Early morning, December 25, 1978. 12 years old. I open two gifts from my mom, Billy Joel 52nd St. and Boston Boston. I now own 2 albums. No disrespect to Billy intended, but I still listen to this entire album (and the next two) regularly. Thanks for evoking that memory.
You need to re-listen to 52nd Street. It's got my favorite Billy Joel songs ever on it. One is Half A Mile Away, and the other is Until The Night. Apparently Joel wrote the second one to mimic the sound of the Righteous Brothers. Very cool😊😊😊
Foreplay/Long Time should be next. Then Peace of Mind or Rock n Roll Band. Then Smokin'. All bangers. And all on that same album!
For me, this song has reigned for most of my life as the best song ever made. It has several pacing changes and some of the best vocals of any rock song.
Brad Delp , had one of the most iconic voices in rock! He up there with Freddie Mercury and David Bowie!
You're not imagining things. Brad Delp's voice was that good...a truly amazing singer, who definitely deserves to be in a conversation with Freddie Mercury, as they were contemporaries.
You are right…he IS the truth! You absolutely can compare
him to Freddie…and Freddie would agree with you!! This
song makes this 70 yr old feel 17 again! Truth. ❤️🔥
Agreed.
There are only a few voices that are top shelf with Freddy and this video definitely shows one of them.
Song in the beginning you’re thinking of was “hooked on a feeling.” By BJ Thomas? Blue Swede? Boston is not that hahaha! This is such a jam! And yeah, they can sing sing 😂
I thought the same thing
Brad Delp was one of the top singers ever. I can see your comparison to Mercury. Just his range and incredible ability to hold a note forever. Boston will always be one of my top 5 bands.
This is my all time favorite rock song. Never tire from hearing it.
Just crossing songs off my list left and right! Boston has so many great songs! Smokin, Foreplay/Longtime, Peace of mind, Hitch a ride, & Don't look back are just a few of their more popular ones! Im loving this journey so much!! ❤ And u want to see a drummer with a masterpice of a fro, check out Inside looking out by Grand Funk Railroad!
Brad Delp is one of THE greatest vocalists of an entire generation and beyond. Tragic life cut short and he's so missed by millions.
This was one of the first bands I got into as a kid! And… Tom Shultz the guitar player, graduated MIT with a masters in engineering! He wrote and recorded all the parts on the album except drums in his basement using gear he built himself! He actually secured a record deal before even finding the players for the band. One of best selling LP’s (17 Million) which debuted in 1976!!! They went on to sell more than 75 million worldwide!!!
3 albums, 15 years. Total perfectionist look it up. This is the reason real music lasts.
This could Quite possibly be the #1 Greatest Debut Album of all time. They set the Standard of Excellence for every Generation even up to Todays Modern Times...50 years Later.
Smokin' and A Man Ill Never Be...songs everyone should hear by Boston
From Wiki: The lead guitarist, Scholz is an MIT-trained engineer who designed and built his own recording studio in an apartment basement in the early 1970s. A fan of rock music throughout his teen years, Scholz began writing songs while earning his master's degree at MIT. The first Boston album was mostly recorded in his basement studio, primarily using devices _he invented_. After the success of Boston, he founded Scholz Research & Development, Inc. to develop and market his inventions, many under the Rockman brand. Scholz holds several patents related to his work at SR&D over the years.
He was described by AllMusic as an "un-rock n' roll" figure who did not enjoy the limelight of being a performer, preferring to concentrate on music, production, and inventing new electronic equipment. In more recent years, he has dedicated much of his money and time to charitable work. Dude is a pure genius. Flowers!
How can you not of heard of this killer song? Their albums are awesome, just put any of Boston's albums on the turntable, turn off your phone and relax and enjoy. That's how we did it in the 70s and 80s
You're thinking of Hooked on a Feeling by Blue Suede
Or by BJ Thomas
Ooo ga chucka
@@jcdvt1+1 for BJ Thomas
No one tops Brad Delp.
They did a cover, poorly of a B.J. Thomas song which he did so much better.
My most favorite song ever, takes me back to my high school years, I graduated 1990! I loved those high school years!!
Lead singer’s voice is absolutely amazing! The whole sound , his voice, the band , just gets to your soul!
Brad Delp (RIP), the lead singer is one of most underrated singers of his generation. Great range, control and presentation...awesome singer.
As others have said "Foreplay/Longtime" is even better... completely iconic
He’s recognized as a great singer, One of the best debut albums of all time, every song is fire
