Can see the cam is wiped out in the bore scope image. Dam that sucks for sure. Once the lifter roller stops turning the cam is done. Good luck with the repair.
I’d love to see you measure the valve spring height and pressure on seat and nose. Might help you determine if it was a lifter defect or a pressure/bind issue. Keep up the good work.
Yikes! I hate your broken! My son just replaced turbo and fuel system from tank to injectors and broke off a glow plug and after 20 hours of attempts we pulled the head! Couldn’t just stop and ended up pulling the engine and rebuilt it! 400k before rebuilding and should have it busted off this week or next!
I blew a head gasket on the driver side and I just replaced both head gaskets with the engine in and put in bee hive stage 2 springs and added head studs too. I did it with and engine lift and had no problems, obviously you need to be careful but it's not bad. Have any questions let me know
Idk man, motorcraft lifters might do the same exact thing. Sounds like the stiffness of your valve springs is putting a lot of pressure on that lifter bearing. maybe a heavier duty replacement is in order? I know cams aren’t cheap.
That’s a nice shirt!!🤘 also I always soak lifters and coat with assy lube when installing so there’s no doubt it has some lubrication at start up. Hope to see it running again soon🔥
Interestingly… All international Ford motors 7.3-6.4 for sure have the same lifters. Model numbers are the same, but pricing changes 😂 So look for a deal, y’all have options.
Do yourself a favor and swap in a power steering setup from an e series van! It’s an easy and cheap swap and much better than the factory unit in these trucks, especially now that all the pumps for them are remans. I can send you a video explaining the swap if you want it!
@@sdub300 The pump from a van has a remote reservoir and is in general a much stronger pump design than what came on the obs trucks. Very similar to the power steering pump on a 6.0 or 6.4. I did the swap to my old 7.3 and I think it cost me like $75 for everything and it was well worth it
It’s possible that there was a valve to piston clearance issue. You will see the top of the piston in the affected cylinder will have a valve contact mark. If this is true…. Then putting new lifters will not resolve… You will likely need to get shorter pushrods as well. Broken rocker arms would have been the first sign of clearance issues. (Piston to valve) Throwing in some thoughts so you don’t have to go through this again.
I’ve had this issue of the other side of the engine before I changed the valve springs to beehives. After that the valve train has been fine. We’ll see when I get it opened up!
Yea that’s but I was saying, maybe that impact the broke the rocker arm damaged that lifter enough to mess up the needle bearing but not enough to cause issues immediately. If that were the case a set of stock lifters should be a permanent fix.
Who makes the Motorcraft lifters? Mahle? Ford doesn't make any of the engine parts I don't believe, repackaged International. And I'd look to see where those needles went. They can take the motor out.
Chinese lifters strike again! 🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦 A name brand like Mahle isn't immune, even giving the OEMs fits! (Godzilla lifter failures, for 1) There's some things that need to be made here no matter what. So sorry to see you go thru that. 😔
what is the age of the glow plug? it would be a good time to replace them and only with motorcraft ones the after market will fail fast and rust and swell in place

Bummer it happened. Excited to watch. You got this.

Dam dude. Now you got me thinking about replacing mine while it’s still apart!!
“Winds blowing over my scalp”…..that got me…😂
I’ll be here all week!😂

Also I’d highly recommend swapping to a Sd dipstick tube if u end up pulling pan much easier checking oil with intercooler pipes
Yes! That’s what I need to do, checking oil level with the OBS dipstick and intercooler pipes is a pain in the ass!
Hate to see it broke but love seein the work
Agreed!

Sucks that your going though this, looking forward to the next episode.

I’ll do that!! Gotta rep the best🤘🏼
Interestingly… All international Ford motors 7.3-6.4 for sure have the same lifters. Model numbers are the same, but pricing changes 😂 So look for a deal, y’all have options.
Sucks it happen! But it’ll be back better than ever!! Plus that new HPO system 😉
I’ll have the man himself dial it in!🤘🏼
I'm trying to put a 6.0 in obs
Hey Brandon! What Pushrods and Valve Springs are you currently running? A In-Depth Video on that would be killer! Thanks! 🤘🏻
I have Smith brothers chromoly push rods and comp springs beehive valve springs.
I’m currently running a river city diesel stage cam but cheaper than the colt cam so far seems great
Didn’t know they made cams!
I installed one in a used motor I put in my truck supposed to be a drop in camshaft with valve spring and push rod upgrades so far so good

whats the difference?
This is a great swap as well as hydrobooster conversion

@@gabewall7381 thanks for the info
@@sdub300 I’ve got videos of the swap if you need them. I should probably just put them on my RUclips lol
I didn't have any issues pulling my heads, some of the easiest heads to pull.

That is an excellent point. I wonder if it’s the same cylinder?

T800 time Brandon

Could Stiffer valve springs cause premature lifter wear? just a thought...

Agreed, I’ve never used Mahle and probably never will
Couple months. Shit it's been a year almost...
How many miles do you have on the motor since you did the build series? Hope the repair goes well!
This engine has 14,000 miles on it I think!
Definitely soak them overnight in 15-40 or any oil for that matter
You will need a camshaft.
Thought diesel trucks need to be daily driven not grocery getters ????? That could be detrimental. Maybe old wife’s tail
Johnson lifters not motorcraft you’ll think me later
Soak them overnight
Wouldn't be much content if it was running all the time😂
1st view!
You didn't notice any symptoms well before finding the lifter ? Like an exhaust manifold leak sound ?
Damn, sounds like your 7.3 turned into a 5.7 hemi...
