Thanks! Ah, so there's like a little bit of plastic that sticks out so you can put your fingers in and pull the cover off, it doesn't actually prevent the laptop from sitting flat on a desk or anything like that so it must be thinner than the rubber feet that hold it up.

This one is a gen older but I guess it's really cheap now .... So it might be a steal deal at the moment. Plus 1050 is good for casual and e-sports tittle.

Thanks! I use Intel XTU to undervolt the CPU, you can use MSI Afterburner for the GPU although I haven't personally found it to make as much of a difference compared to the CPU so far.
Jarrod'sTech I see.. How much do I undervolt it though? I haven't found a guide to undervolt this specific laptop..
It will vary between each individual CPU, there's no strict number that is guaranteed to work. I usually start at -0.150v, run a stress test, then if there is instability (app crashes / weird problems / blue screen) I back it down -0.010v and try again, repeat until no issues.

Oh cool, I'd really like to test the 7300HQ model, I've still never managed to get that CPU to see how it compares after all this time.
I've been using this laptop for 5 years with no issues, so I'm happy with it, but an important note on the keyboard is that it doesn't have a page-up page-down or an end key, only home. For some reason Asus didn't even provide them through the FN key. So I often use an external keyboard with it.
I've literally just got mine second hand and I'm very impressed I picked it up for £300 i got the on with the 1060 6 gb and 16 gb ram it can do everything I need it to and some more great laptop especially for the price i got it for

I got this for a really cheap price around 6 years ago, only downside is sounds like a jet plane taking off when gaming and gets VERY hot. Even during "idling" the fans are constantly making noise.

Definitely considering this machine for school and creative work/gaming, but with the gtx1060 (FX503VM model). I was looking at the Helios 300 and Dell G5, but both are about $300aud more, and plus shipping they end up being 2 grand. Is there anything else worth considering around the $1500 mark with very similar performance that you could recommend?
Nothing else that I've tested unfortunately, I've heard good things about the HP Omen and Lenovo Y530 but I haven't been able to get in contact with either of them just yet to get any review units, although might finally be getting in touch with someone at Lenovo so we'll see!

Lenovo is look much much better and i hear that cooling system pretty better on lenovo, but i don’t know is it true or just lenovo pay for good review :)

Hey jarred,i recently bought a dell 7577(1050ti with i7 7700hq).After some light gaming sessions i installed gpuz to know the temp limit of my gpu and it is set at 85.should i be concerned about the temp limit causing throttling issues in the future?i cant change the thermal paste as it will void my warranty.is there any way to bypass the temp limit of the gpu?
Not sure about bypassing the limit, I think usually that's configured in firmware so not sure about changing it. Personally I think 85c is fine, most of the laptops I've tested the GPU doesn't really rise too far above 70c anyway, generally the CPU is hotter and more of a concern. If you're actually being throttled though aside from repasting you could attempt to undervolt it, I've heard that can help lower GPU temperatures, personally I've never had any luck with it.

Probably not much you can do then without trying to repaste it. Either way no major issues running at 80c if there's not throttling taking place.

Yeah I do I watch a lot of videos and reply to a lot of comments haha, each full laptop review takes days of effort to create, lots of testing and video to film.

Good review man! I just bought it one month ago (i5 7300 HQ and GTX 1060) works perfectly, but this week I've downloaded Black Ops 4 and when it's running the temperature goes to 85-91°C (only when the laptop is charging, when it's not and use the battery I get 60-65°C) It's that normal? I mean it's only with COD. When I use it on normal work or in other games like Fortnite it doesn't get that warm. I'm a little bit worried about that high temperatures :(
The battery will get warm while charging if it's not at 100%, and if it's already at 100% I would expect the components to run hotter as they would be able to perform better compared to battery only

Hii, I’m looking around for a laptop for uni (mechanical engineering), any recommendations? Do I really need a big heavy gaming laptop? Cos the Dell G5/7 is quite heavy to carry about
I don't know what sort of programs you need to run for your classes, but you could definitely get away with something much thinner and lighter if your just typing documents and browsing the internet without playing any games for instance
Jarrod'sTech we’re gonna be running, autocad, solidworks, matlab, etc.
I don't have experience with any of those programs myself, so probably worth finding benchmarks / if the applications suggest any specific hardware, but most laptops have 8750H/1050Ti graphics these days and honestly those specs should cover off anything well. Most will be similar in size and weight to the G5 unless you pay more to go thinner like an MSI GS65/Aero 15x for instance.

Great review! , For me buying GTX 1050 at this point isn't a good idea , one thing I've noticed is that the fan on the other side is flipped and it's showing the cable
Thanks! Yeah I'd personally want the 1050Ti at a minimum, but depends what you're using it for I suppose, 1050 is fine for some people out there.
Quick Question, how did you manage to get the webcam to work? I can't seem to find the driver for it and my college is making us do online quizzes and test with a webcam. Thank you!
Can't remember for this specific laptop but it may be one that has software where you need to enable it.

So it has a ssd and if you want to upgrade you have to change it or do you put in one more
It has a single M.2 slot and single 2.5" drive bay, so if it comes with an M.2 SSD you can either upgrade it or add in a 2.5" SSD (replacing any existing HDD if it comes with one installed).
I've got the same with a 1060 instead of the 1050. And it runs perfectly all games in high/ultra at 60fps. It can run VR aswell ! :)

Bro what can u say about Alienware laptop? Is it true that there prone on overheating especially the Alienware 15 r3?
I've only ever had one for testing so far, the 13 R3, and I had no overheating there even while under stress test. I haven't used the 15 R3 yet, hoping to get the 15" models soon, just waiting for them to have some review units available.

Hey Jarred, Is your fx504 stuttering problem solved after BIOS update 312 ?
I can't do any further testing as I had to send it back after the review, so I only got to test with 310. Some people said in the comments things had improved, while others said there was less power limit throttling, so seems like there may be some improvements.

This is a disgustingly clean and precise review, I have the same model and got it on sale two years ago, I didn’t know the undervolt limitations and that I could over clock the gpu either. The laptop is ok with the games I want to play but that extra boost in performance will help a lot with revitalization after 2 years, since fortnite for some reason is harder to run now
Great video... What difference in gaming and normal use will I get if I upgrade 8gb ddr4 ram+128gb SSD to 16gb ddr4 ram+256gb SSD
Depends on the game, generally 16gb is recommended for many modern games, some like BF5 for instance will result in stuttering with 8gb or less, but for the most part you'll see a larger performance difference going from single channel memory to larger memory compared to larger sizes.

That won't help frame rates, but will help improve game loading times, I've got an older video comparing gaming on HDD/SSD and the differences were within margin of error.
I asked for this laptop's review before..but unfortunately not the same specs...nice review and at least it will cover most of the laptop's features except the screen...in the 120hz it gets bright and the colors are very nice
Yeah should be the same except gaming performance/temps/battery life, unfortunately it was the only specced model I was able to get from the FX503, so hopefully better than nothing 😃

Based on the specs it should be pretty good for video editing, the 7700HQ is alright, but if you can find the i5-8300H it's about 10% better. The extra 2 cores in the i7-8750H may also be useful for video editing too, or at least the exporting phase.

I play csgo using this laptop and its fine bro. 120 average fps on low settings.
I have the i57300hq 1060 6gb variant and my gpu's temp is 91C and cpu temp 85 C when playing dota 2 ultra settings and other games. Not to mention it was already undervolted. I lived in a tropical country so its second to middle east and my laptop's idle is 40-50 C

Hmm 7300HQ is still decent, but I've never had one to test with for myself so I can't really talk about how it compares unfortunately.
I have the 1060 3bg and 120hz version. It is godly that i got this for £610 new. This run much faster than my old alienware 15 and faster than my friends 1k laptop. There is some throttling when playing assasins creed odessy hitting 91'c for less than a second then drops bsck to 82'c. When on my most played game csgo it running average 230fps and temps at 66'c.
I really cant tell if this laptop is water rrsistance damage because i spilled some coke zero on the keyboard and a day after of leaving it on my table nothing change expect for very small splash noise in some keys on the keyboard. The temps, performance stayed the same

Not really sure what sort of applications you'd be using, but maybe you can find benchmarks of how well it runs on this hardware to get an idea of what to expect? Haven't used the Acer Nitro (may have one coming to me soon though) or any HP laptops yet so can't really comment myself. In terms of specs though this is pretty decent for CPU, but not excellent for GPU, though that may be fine for your applications and how much they benefit from GPU acceleration.

I guess technically this performs around 10% better in games due to it not being maxq like the Dell, otherwise don't think I could really pick one from the other in terms of build quality

My battery isn't so good

That's a steal. I've had this laptop for 3 years as long as you keep it clean it's pretty solid.
I've got the same but a 1060 instead, some say that the 1060 is starting to struggle but I cant say I've seen that even right now at start 2020.
Also my screen overclocked to 90hz.
Yeah I tested a 1060 laptop a few months ago and compared to the new 1660 Ti stuff the difference was bigger than I thought, I guess 1060 is like 3-4 years old now.

Probably still pretty good, it's just the 6th gen model right? I use a 6700HQ myself and for me it still does the job well.
i have this laptop, it really has no issues, but i will be upgrading to the acer predator helios 500, cause of the larger, higher refresh rate screen, better cpu ang much better gpu, and it does look better with the blue highlights instead of red.

Are you sure it's the 504? Or is it the 505? 504 is the worst TUF laptop ever made, don't get it, 505 fixes the issues. The 1650 will beat the 1050, but in terms of CPU power an i5-8300H will beat a Ryzen 5 or even Ryzen 7 CPU, so depends what the priority is.

Hard to say without using it for a long period of time, it seemed fairly sturdy for a plastic laptop though.

Do you mean the contrast ratio? The Helios 500 scored 770:1

Cheers! Yeah gets quite hot on the CPU under stress test, but didn't see major issues while gaming, but will depend on the game.

Ff Ff I didn't explicitly test battery life in that game, I tested it in the witcher 3, in theory both will max out the graphics anyway so I wouldn't expect too much of a difference to what I showed in the video.

I think it's just a flat 10% on top of the total price for GST, so that plus shipping, at least as far as I know, although I thought amazon.com stopped shipping to Australia recently due to our tax changes.

I'd expect it to go ok with these specs, though haven't used it myself on this machine as I don't think it was out when I made the review.
5 years now and I'm surprised it hasn't died on me yet(I fried it's motherboard between year 1 and 2, but warranty covered it)

To be honest probably not, I've been trying to get a 7300HQ laptop for years now and have had no luck, not really sure what the deal is, all the review units always had 7700HQ, I really wanted to compare the two CPUs 😰

I don't think the HT would matter as much in many games, but I'd want to test it myself to know for sure.
Can You Stream Twitch with this laptop using the Elgato hd 60 s ?
I honestly don't know, I have no experience with streaming, you could look up benchmarks with the 7700HQ to get an idea, although I suspect the newer models with the i7-8750H which have two extra CPU cores will probably be better.

You can almost have my 1060 503vm..$1800...I have reinstalled windows at least , very least 60 times now...it's been running as windows xp for most of this year apart from when it's windows 7 ...or 10...I thought I had some good news last week as it started identifying itself as windows 8...I thought yay..I might get a good quality picture finally again. Yeah right... thousands of hours troubleshooting for at least the last 3 yrs... almost banging out 100 degrees although for last 12 months I have had a fan pumping high wind straight down its throat which is idiotic as hot pushing out is dealing with cold air thundering in , that said averaging 89 DG now so it can get over it...too broke to find enough cash for something new and I asked Asus yet again to help me fix it's idiot over the phone and they just want it sent to them...when someone from there cuts off their foot and sends it to me it's all theirs although it has degenerated to a babbling moron in the last few months but has been spewing it's idiot brain out for years and everytime same s#@t different day .. I wake to a retard that will only operate after another windows reinstal...16 new hard drives but it must have an idiot sister Asus out there cos it somehow loads my totally clean painstakingly manually reloaded factory driver system within weeks of fresh start with a totally new set of F#$@wit configurations that love to spit the important things out I need....like ic colour profiles ...a full screen picture the size of a match box...generic drivers straight over my good ones...wiping my hard drives...and I mean wiping ..go to sleep wake up ...hard drive is a brick...and a plethora of other crap
Trouble shooting...I would rather do some me shooting but I'm not allowed to own a bullet in my country let alone a gun...i came here to hopefully see that they were all mostly fkd in the head but nah.. I am thinking they are mostly acceptable to good ...my idiots mum and dad must have been ice dealers ... Sybil ain't got nothing on my laptop and yeah I have built 3 towers myself and had other lappies so I have been around the block let alone all of the wasted technicians and $$......
Just remember though if they were all bad they wouldn't still be selling years on so it just simply got me fkd....The kind gentlemans review of it sounded pretty spot on to me , his just didn't have Mr Magoo running the engine room

Best performance in what? For gaming, the 1060 would likely still come out ahead despite the CPU differences in most games.

Hi why my fx504 only have 60hz screen refresh rate and only gtx1050ti ? I saw website fx504 have 120hz screen & gtx 1060?
It's available in different configurations, the newer 1060 model has the option of higher refresh rate panel.

Hmm, it could be partitioned in a way where it just needs to be expanded, or they may have made a mistake and installed a small drive. In task manager you should be able to see the model of drive, look that up and see what size it should be (task manager > performance tab > disk > model name should be there).

What's the difference between 2017 model and 2018 model
I have a video on the fx504 on the channel, very similar but with 8th gen CPUs which are more power hungry, and as a result there is a large power limit in place which prevents full performance in multicore load resulting in various problems, I've outlined them in that review if you're after more information: ruclips.net/video/11BFyWZGDq4/видео.html
