The newer ASUS FX505 fixes the problems I had with the FX504 in the video, you can find my review here: ruclips.net/video/jqvSZifr_Is/видео.html
For troubleshooting power limit and stuttering issues with the FX504, refer to this comment: ruclips.net/video/11BFyWZGDq4/видео.html&lc=UgyT2H5dHhoulTw__FN4AaABAg
Should I return the FX504 i7 version and buy a FX505 i5 version or should I go for the ROG Strix GL503. Both are basically the same price.
my friend is dropping so much frames and I don't know how to help him fix power limit throttling, nothing is working and he has the asus tuf fx504ge that has i5 8300h and 1050 ti

A very well made review. the hard work behind this video is obvious.
Thanks!
I'm planning to buy a new laptop for Christmas and I love how detailed your reviews are! Keep making more reviews man. You definitely deserve more subscribers
Thanks! I'll do my best! Hope you like the new laptop when you get it 😀
C Y is there a type c usb ok this laptop
Such a thorough review. Very balanced. I subscribed...👍🏻
Great video, Jarrod you really covered all the essentials of a great review, I really appreciate giving benchmarks of multiple games. Really loved it. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Sidharth!
This was the most thorough and honest review. Thanks man🙏🏿Earned my sub
Cheers, welcome to the channel!
Can you make a video where you talk about how to take care of a laptop. How to clean. How to properly charge. When to use the charger. How to maintain the longevity
nice idea
That is a great idea! Lots of people really don't fully understand. Mostly because the focus seems to be on the specs, and the initial purchase. And Jarrod is very experienced with laptops, and I'm certain that his knowledge in this area, far outstrips mine.
I'm sure when he wakes up and checks, you'll get a heart!
Matt Christie lol thanks man. And yeah exactly. Like we have all this info on how to get the best laptop. But nothing on how to maintain one.
Yeah that's a good idea, a few people have asked some questions on this and I've just been replying on a case by case basis, but a video would be a good idea. I've added it to my todo list, although that's quite bit at the moment haha, I have a pile of 7 laptops here to work through 😛
Jarrod'sTech lol keep on grinding man. Once you get to it. Please make it. I know you'll make a detailed video. Amazing content man! Keep it up. Btw. Can you do a comparison video on G5. And also talk about the backlighting
beautiful video and I was very helpful, thanks
No problem, cheers!
The two red bars have very similar colours, which makes it hard to differentiate between the two. Great review Jarrod. It's funny that undervolting a laptop seems to have a similar effect as overvolting a desktop! (As far as performance goes) The ASUS TUF FX504 Gaming Laptop doesn't appear to live up to the "gaming" moniker. Something that's far too prevalent these days, with everything having "Gaming" attached to it. Maybe it's just me though! Have a great day!
Glad you didn't post last night, cause I would have lost even more sleep! LOL!
Thanks! Haha that's lucky, I scheduled it for 6am AEST so I was still asleep 😎
How would u suggest this laptop for video editing? I am thinking about the i5 edition with 1050 2GB
I would say it would be pretty decent, but difficult to know for sure if the 8300H will have the same power limit throttling issues I experienced here. The i5-8300H is pretty nice, I recently compared it to last generations 7700HQ and it was around 10% better in all tasks, so should be pretty good for a video editing laptop.
Jarrod'sTech www.pcworld.com/article/3270625/laptop-computers/intel-8th-gen-core-i7-vs-7th-gen-core-i7-cpus-should-you-upgrade.amp.html
I’m getting this i78750H for audio production/editing (pro tools 10, 11 and NI’s Maschine). 6 cores is nice for that reason. The throttling may not be an issue for what I’m using it for and may help preserve it. I may post my results. Good review/video👍🏼😎
Go for i5 gtx1050ti 4gb
@@JarrodsTech i so read that in your voice
Another great review as usual! Seems like a decent laptop, only wish the budget gaming machines moved away from the whole black and red theme. Just looks a bit tacky imo.
Cheers! You wouldn't know it's a gaming laptop if it wasn't for the black and red colour scheme though 😉 to be fair it does seem to be available in all black, though it seems to vary between regions.
i want to ask a question off the topic ...usually my laptop is on for 15-20 hours a day with power plugged in all the time , will it affect my laptop battery if i am not using my laptop on battery ?
No, I've left my work laptop on 24/7 during week days for almost 3 years and the battery is still fine. The battery gets degraded by going through discharge/recharge cycles.
so no problem using laptop on power plugged in all the time?
No, that's the ideal way to use it. You'll lose performance and degrade the battery faster by constantly using it.
thanx man you are the best
No problem!
Hi Jarrod, are you planning to review the Razer blade 15 gtx1970 fhd in the near future? Always found your reviews really helpful
Yeah I am! They should be sending it out this week 😁
Hi thanks for the informative review
Im looking at buying this laptop to play some Fifa and mostly for work what do your feel
Thanks
It will probably go ok that game doesn't need much to play.
Jarrod'sTech thanks
Just ordered the 2021 TUF A15 with Ryzen 7 5800H and RTX 3070, the tuf laptops came such a long way but still looking very similar on the keyboard and panel bezels
Hey man, it would be great if you could do a comparison video of budget(~1000$) gaming laptops in mid 2018. We are just overwhelmed with choices from 1050Ti and 1060 in this segment right now. Looking forward to your next video, Cheers!
Hey, I want to do that I just need to get my hands on a few more laptops in that range in order to do the comparison, as you've probably noticed most of the laptops on the channel recently have been on the higher end, I at least want to get the new Helios 300, maybe a HP Omen / Lenovo laptop to compare too, just trying to get in contact with people there regarding review units.
Just got mine I'm actually happy with it, I will admit it can be a bit loud but I can't tell Cuomo have speakers and I'm usually in game mode but it's a decent laptop and no overheating or stuttering what so ever so far
Good to hear you're not having any problems with it! I just got the newer fx505 for review, so will have some info on how they one compares coming in tomorrow's video 😀
ASUS TUF FX504GD - ES51 has i5-8300H and GTX 1050, had 8GB memory but added another 8GB for Dual Channel 16GB, also cloned Windows 10 from terrible slow FireCuda hybrid HDD to a 1TB Samsung 860 EVO SSD. The Touchpad is glitchy as sometimes the Cursor would not move and had to try again. Sensitivity adjustment settings did nothing. This had the 60Hz TN panel display, at angle views it was terrible as picture fades/ color washed out. But making the upgrades to memory from 8GB to 16GB and r&r the HDD with a SSD was worth it , seeing much improvement in performance. Under Voltage the CPU. Not necessary as does little for FPS in games but in Benchmarks you get higher scores. ThrottleStop and XTU don't bother. Go to windows Panel Control and into Power Options, set for High Performance profile. The i5-8300H will run constant at 3.9GHz or Turbo speed. However, when you run a game or program/ app that places a heavy work load, use the Keyboard and change the FAN Speed Setting from Quiet, Normal and Fast to Fast. Yes! it will be loud and you will feel the heat blowing out the exhaust ports. Your games and apps will run smooth, but if running a Benchmark your score will be just below average from those you see posted in reviews. Reason, different GPU driver, older BIOS version, Benchmark version not the same, or the configuration of the tested laptop in the review is different than yours. You have i5 and they have i7 or both have i7 but the GPU one having GTX 1050 other GTX 1050Ti or GTX 1060. Results are for comparison only. Back to the Under volting of -120mv or -125mv or -135 mv. Before using XTU or ThrottleStop, you had gone into BIOS and select DEFAULT, Save and Exit, then windows Control Panel in Power Options select Balance. Run app such as HWinfo64 and CineBench R15 or Cinebench R20 in Multi core. You should see in HWinfo64 that PL1 is running about 39W to 41W with 45W being maximum and PL2 should read 80W. (Normally in Idle, PL1 = 28W and PL= 45W). If you want to Undervolt then try it, but with the ASUS 2018 models why bother at all. Now if you Idle Temperature are high and run hot all the time. Recommend disassembly as taking bottom cover off and renewing the Thermal paste on the GPU and CPU using Arctic MX-4 or Kryonaut Thermal paste / compound. Never ever use Thermal Pads. Watch a few RUclips videos if you are not acquainted how to remove bottom panel cover and remove copper heat sink assembly to get to the GPU and CPU.
Hey love ur videos man, what do you think about the FX505 that launched this week?
Thanks! It looks pretty interesting, going to see if I can get it soon, hopefully the issues I noted in this one are no longer present.
Great video. Next time if you are making a comparison video or review, would it be good to test the boot times of the laptops?
Hmm not really sure to be honest, because it depends on a number of factors, different regions sell with different drives which will change it, and also if you have the Windows 10 fast boot option etc.
Jarrod'sTech fair enough
Sad sad laptop that the voltage supplied isn't enough to produce playable experiences. I was really looking forward to how this laptop is in general, quite disappointing as they really didn't deliver what I thought they promised, I had high expectations for the laptop, i normal don't have high expectation for most things. Not really hating on asus as generally their products are top notch. But it's poor on their part that they let a laptop out of the box be under supplied. They can easily fix this in a bios update. Another great review Jarrod!
Thanks! Yeah was a little disappointing, it would otherwise be a pretty good option for the price.
I find out that altering the fan speed with fn+f5 can break the 25W TDP limit for a while, upto more than 57W. Cinebench now scores 1266cb with 0.175V CPU undervolted. It can run constantly at around 3.87GHz in stress test.
Interesting, was that permanent or did you have to keep changing fan speeds?
It returns to the normal 25W after a while and I have to change the fan speeds again. Very strange.
Strange :/
Mark Paul Cards lol
@@AB-sg4xu doesn't really waste, still cheaper and better than i7-7700HQ I was going to buy last year, pay $180 more you get more heat pipe
Planning on getting one soon can't wait
Even after the discussion about the performance problems?
@@JarrodsTech sure I found found 1 on sale for super cheap and I'm on a budget so this should be perfect
This is my first so I don't have high expectations
Will you test the new fx505 when it is available? Will look forward to it hehe
I hope so, I requested it yesterday, just waiting for the ASUS team to get back to me and have a review unit available.
I feel like this is laptop has great specs for the price. However it could have achieved much more if it had better heat management
Eric Wei When I saw those tiny heatpipes, I was concerned that it wasn't enough for a 8750H, and indeed that explains why they limited the power to 25W
Teco01ejg the temperatures are really low though, so the problem isn't the heat management, it's the power management
Yeah the temperatures could definitely go higher, there was some room for that, just seems to be an issue with power limitations I think.
TabalugaDragon Everything is a cost cutting measure : cheaper mobo, cheaper power brick, cheaper heatsinks and a good CPU name for marketing purposes.
@@JarrodsTech can you do anything about it because i want to buy this laptop but i don't know if thatbwould be a smart move bec of the heat management
The best ever on RUclips 😍😊

Joshua Jairus Porras does it play games on a good FPS?
I only play League of Legends and I have like 180 to 200 fps with the highest graphics

Personally speaking, (I am typing this from this laptop) I would really recommend buying it, its cheap but the performance is really great imo.

@@JarrodsTech your review really help me made a choice to choose a new laptop.
Nice video Jarrod! Can you also compare this laptop to another laptop with an i7-6700HQ with a GTX 970M? Thanks!
Thanks! It probably doesn't make too much sense to compare this laptop given you miss out on performance due to the power limit throttling, however I do have other comparison videos on the channel, including 970M vs 1050Ti which should give you a rough idea on the differences between graphics. I don't yet have any CPU comparisons with the 8750H though but I'm working on that.
Hey, i have a question
This laptop and predator Helios 300 are both available at the same price in my country (both with i5 8300h and gtx 1050ti variant)
Both have almost same specs and I'm quite confused between the two.
which one is preferable?
I'd definitely go the Helios 300, I am testing the new one at the moment (videos up soon) and it doesn't have the stuttering issue I showed here that was also reported by others.
@@JarrodsTech thanks for such an early reply man, I'll go with the Helios
No problem, cool hope you like it!
helios 300 no doubt---it has been in market for maybe 2 years and works great---new 8th gen i5 is just cherry on top
Go for tuf,by your name i guess you are indian and if you specially living in northern region where temp gets high as 47 celsius . Tuf has better cooling system than helios 300. Helios 300 will suffer from thermal throttling.
wow the mic sounds quite good .-. didnt expect that :/
Haha yeah it happens in every 10th or so laptop 😉
Jarrod'sTech there's a pattern emerging xD
One day we might get good cameras and mics on everything!
Jarrod'sTech hopefully :D
Hey Great video.. have you ever tried liquid metal thermal compund? Would it help for this model?
Thanks! I don't think it would help here, as temperatures weren't an issue, the arbitrary power limit throttling was limiting the performance, and by extension the temperatures were under control. I'm also not able to test liquid metal myself in review units, if I remove the stock thermal paste when I send the laptop back after the review it will go to the next reviewer who will unknowingly report misleading thermal information because they didn't know it had been changed.
Thank you very much for the review! I would like to ask you something. Is is possible to turn off the light of the keyboard so the keys aren't with that red light?
Yes
Yes, Fn + down to shift brightness(has 3) and turn off
I placed an onder before really checking the reviews as I thought it was a good deal . Thank the lord I managed to cancel in time
Phew! I have the newer FX505 here at the moment, hoping it fixes the issues!
Mine worked out with a simple bios update
No stuttering now
That's good to hear!
@@JarrodsTech bios update? is it the same as driver update?
Hi, your review was awesome.
I wanna to buy it but I've a question. Can i use this laptop for engineer softwares like, Solidworks, AutoCAD, Catia, Ansys, Fluent and Abaqus?
Thank you
To be honest I'd look at any other machine except this due to the issues covered in the video.
Hi, I was looking for review for the laptop you introduced, and I want to ask you something. When you were testing with playing some games, did you turn all the options on?
What options? I just use the built in presets (eg low/medium/high/ultra), I click these and they change all the other settings automatically.
idont think that it worth it you could get 150 more and get the hellious 300
great reviews thanks 👍
Cheers! I suppose from Acer the Nitro 5 would probably be closer in specs compared to the Helios 300, I think that's available with 1050Ti, haven't tested it out yet myself though.
Except that the helios is hot AF. MSI with a 1070 runs cooler than the helios, albeit not by much.
@@JarrodsTech did you now?
I can get this for 799 right now is that worth it ?
Try using 180 watt power brick from another ASUS laptop.
I don't have any others at the moment, but I think the limit whether that be in BIOS/firmware or what ever would still be in effect.
pretty sure the plug changes size with the wattage
Very detail for laptop review, review new helios 300 and hp omen 15 dc please.
I'm still waiting for the Acer Australia team to have the new Helios 300 available for review, as for HP I still haven't been able to get in contact with anyone there yet unfortunately.

Pio Soesetio I have my CPU undervolted by 100 mV
How much did you undervolt your CPU and GPU?
As for cpu,
cache = -135 mV and
cpu core = -360 mV
Yea, ik the cpu core undervolt is low but it works fine and as far as I've monitored it, didn't see any drop in performace and frequency.
the cache can actually be pushed to -150 mV but it runs unstable and the laptop would freeze after a long stress test.
As for gpu, you can check the voltage/frequency graph on the link up there.
Pio Soesetio im planning on using your settings but im a little concern about the cpu core undervolt being so low, how is it now???? Sorry if my english is bad :3
It's running fine, never crashed on games or other things. You can keep it higher if u want. You don't need to copy it, results can vary even though it's the same machine.
this 25W is pretty strange, asus is prob using "chitty" mobos with bad fets and bad power components.
I wouldnt buy it cuz the cpu power limit sucks
Yeah not too sure what the deal is with that, I'm just glad I was able to find other instances of that being the case online as I didn't want it to be just me.
His unit is probably faulty. Mine was also having 25W tdp but it was fixed after lending the laptop Asus' service center.
Rodrick HD I was thinking the same thing judging the fact that all the Io is on one side to lower the cost of manufacturing
Seems this is a common issue, I thinknill look elsewhere, the Dell G5 seems a good bet, similar specs, similar price.

May you help me decide what a good laptop to buy for gaming? My price ceiling is the price of this
Laptop. If you may, it will help me and my family big time :)
Thanks! I'd probably look at the Acer Nitro 5, should be similar to this but hopefully without the problems I reported here.
I have this laptop. It's not bad for students.
Yeah fair enough, I can see it being perfectly fine if you aren't stressing the CPU / doing CPU demanding workloads.
how is the trackpad of this. does it little bit loose. ??
On my model, it's very good. No trackpad issues. This laptop in my opinion is great for students who also love to game on the side.
Hey man, how's battery life? Taking notes VS RUclips/Netflix VS light gaming?
@@jakepoirier2572 In my experience, battery life sucks. But that's common for gaming laptops. Taking notes can last you around 2 hours or slightly longer. While watching RUclips however, I was only able to get at best 2 hours, with power saving on and display brightness at 30%. I don't really game while on battery. For the price, I think this laptop is pretty good. However, there are other models that are better for around the same price range.
Why do human RUclipsrs sound like computer generated voice nowadays? Spent too long watching WatchMojo or something?
Not everyone sounds as amazing as you I guess 🤔 although you don't seem to talk in any of the videos on your channel, projecting something onto me there? 😉

Good to hear it works well for you.
Jarrod Please Reply
I was really looking forward to buy this laptop but your review and the comments have put me in dillema
Is it good for heavy programming like Android and Machine Learning.
And tell me about its battery life too please
The only battery life testing I did is covered in the review. As for those tasks, I guess depends how heavy they utilize the CPU, I don't actually have any idea how much CPU usage those things need so I can't really say, but if you're using all CPU cores then I'd expect the power limit throttling to give you poorer performance.
Avoid the FX504 series at all costs, this is the worst gaming laptop on the market right now. I own a FX504GE that comes with a core i7 8750H and a Nvidia 1050 Ti and it is underperforming too much, I cannot say if the core i5 will perform as bad, but, most likely it will. Either the core i5 or core i7 are 45 W parts, but, they are being limited to just 20 - 25 W meaning that you are paying extra for something that you can’t use at its full potential
For the model I own expect the CPU to power throttle when on high CPU loads as a result, the clock speed will be limited to the base speed of 2.2 GHz and turbo boost will not kick in even if it is enabled. So, for video editing, rendering, CAT simulations, etc. it will not perform as expected. You might be saying “this is a gaming computer, it is for gaming” well, it is a failure at that too. For the same CPU power limitation and clock speeds bouncing all over the place you will constantly have to cope with framedrops and stuttering in any game. To kind of solve the issue you will have to underbolt the CPU and GPU.
The worst part is that I contacted Asus on this regard and they have admitted there are some issues with the design and provided a ton of excuses on why it might be, but, are not willing to solve the problem. They suggest entering the PC to a service center for “fixing”, most likely they will change the motherboard or other components but most likely it will continue the same as there is no damage on the PC just a poor design. They will not provide a replacement computer either and if you bought the PC in other region you are screwed as their “international” warranty will not cover you on another region meaning you will have to ship the computer to wherever it was bought.
Save your money and look elsewhere.
Thanks for sharing your experience, seems similar to what I experienced and what I found while searching for others that had the same issue.
This is a complete disappointment, more than that, a ripoff.
Right now I'm in the crusade of posting my experience anywhere I can to prevent any other buyers potential from having the same experience I had.
Sadly Asus is not interested in this model and most likely will not care about the bad reviews.
update uefi to 304 or 310 the limit would be gone , wouldn't yours?
Vince15nt Itncame with 310 and it was throttling, after 2 weeks I got 311 and it was the same

For some extended battery life, an UPS may be used which would cost about 20 usd.
A UPS costs a bit more than $20, and is basically the opposite of portable 😛 at least based on the UPS I have, I did a video on it here: ruclips.net/video/NIIhRI7NWTI/видео.html

Maybe, depends if MSI are able to lend me one, I've requested the GL series a few weeks ago but they didn't have any for me to borrow at that time
Iam wondering to buy this laptop for photo editing and graphic design is it good for that kind of stuff and will fans be loud?
I would look elsewhere, this is one of the worst laptops I've tested, plus the screen is on the lower end side in terms of colour gamut which is not ideal for photo editing.
Great review, unfortunately lost me at 1050 for gaming 😊
Cheers! Haha, to be fair it's 1050Ti, which isn't too bad 😁 1050 is a bit weak yeah.
1050 is good, would run everything ultra in esports games
Hello greetings from the Philippines, I recently discovered your channel and I have to say that your videos are really informative and the way you explain each laptop reviews is clear and precise. Furthermore, I just want to ask your insights, because I know you can help me with these, about which laptops to choose from. My choices are;
Asus TUF FX504, Asus X560UD, Asus GL553VE or the Asus GL503VD.
The pricing of these laptops is around 40-60k Php. And my budget is within the pricing of these laptops. Also maybe you can suggest a better one aside from my choices. Thank you.
Thanks! I'd pick anything over the FX504, the throttling issues make it one of the worst laptops I've tested so far, that's not to say it's terrible all round, but no other laptop featured on the channel so far has had that degree of throttling in games. Acer Helios 300 might be worth looking into, depends on prices in your country though. I haven't personally used he other two ASUS laptops so I don't think I can really comment on how they would be to use, sorry.
@@JarrodsTech Thanks for the response, appreciate your insights. I will look into the Acer Helios 300, I think you have a video on it right? I might as well consider the two Asus from my choice, and weigh which laptops are worth buying. Again, thank you :)
No problem! Yeah it's here: ruclips.net/video/QA7UFi-uO1M/видео.html
Can you please review fx 505 as well? I heard news its going to be released soon. Thanks
Hope so, I've requested it from ASUS, they just sent the Scar 2 so hopefully I can get it after that.
@@JarrodsTech ok that's good to hear. Will wait for the review then. Thanks
No problem!
Hey man nice video! How's the temperature? I want to buy a cheap gaming laptop that can withstand long hours for gaming without thermal throttling
(I want temps 70 below).
If not this laptop, can you suggest me 8th Gen budget gaming laptops? Thank you very much...I subbed :D
I talk about the temperatures in detail at 6:45. No thermal throttling, but that seems to be due to the power limit throttling that was taking place, meaning the CPU wasn't getting full performance.
hey Jarrod love your content . i have a question in my country both the helios 300 and the tuf fx 504 are of same price(1100USD) the specs on both being i5 8300H GTX 1060 60hz panel . The only difference being that the helios 300 has 16 GB of 2444 RAM whereas tuf has 8GB RAM. As they are of same price which one would be the better choice .
Hey, thanks! I'd pick the Helios simply due to the throttling/stuttering issues that I experienced here, the fact that it has more memory is icing on the cake, Helios would be my pick.
I still have that laptop and is Amazing.
Hello. Someone is selling the same laptop. It's already been used. The specs are good. My question is: Is it still worth it to buy the same laptop in 2022 for 20,000 Philippine Pesos? Thanks.
@@gloeduardmilanes5993 did you buy it?
Hey, can you make a quick update video about the bios update and other things about the thermals I’m seeing in the comments? Thanks! Planning to buy for my brother.
I don't have the laptop anymore unfortunately so haven't been able to do further testing :( I don't think they'll want to send me one to borrow just to do that either, I'd happily do it but yeah that's just the way it is I'm afraid. Hoping to get the new FX505 for testing soon though.
Jarrod'sTech ohhhh ok thank you! Im looking forward in the fx505 review!
👍👍
you are right..my acer nitro5 i7-8750h with 1050ti does reach 1200++ on cinebench r15. The asus tuf laptop cpu does throttle.
That's good!
I surprisingly got it achieved 1258cb (312, -135mV, -45mV) when set fan to OverBoost mode, Extremely surprising!
Wow nice!
would you recomend it for photo editiing?
It will work in terms of specs but the screen isn't great for professional work, I'd look elsewhere. This is generally the case with the lower priced gaming laptops, they generally cut costs with the screen
Very well reviewed video. I was very Impressed. Thanks so much! I am uncertain at this moment which gaming laptop to buy.... hmm
Thanks! What do you plan on using it for? If gaming what sort of games, any other applications?
I have bought Asus FX504GM in Pantip Plaza mall Bangkok. They smiled while selling me this laptop. Next day i flight away to my country. Now under load CPU works with max TDP 26 Wt. No gaming only frustrating!
Lol
Hello, can you do a review about the Dell G7 15 ?
Thank you ! :)
Gud
especially when its on sale, for the price, its amazing
I'm trying to get my hands on one, just waiting for them to have it available for me.
Hey just wanted to let you know that I had confirmation that the G7 should hopefully be getting sent out to me tomorrow, so video in a few weeks after testing!
Yes ! :D
Hi jarrod,Do you think it's worth it to buy a 1060 variant of this laptop? Because I've heard that the power management is bad... So I'm concerned that maybe the laptop won't get enough power to utilise the chip to it's potential... Please share your thoughts on this
Honestly hard to say without testing it, some people did say that recent bios updates improved things a bit but I can't say for sure how it goes yet
@@JarrodsTech oh... Kk thanks bro
So i’ve never had a gaming laptop or laptop so my question is; can you put pc discs into it?
No, it doesn't have a CD drive. You'd need to use an external USB CD drive, almost no modern laptops have that anymore so that's the only option.
Hey, what's better with i7-8750h and gtx 1060 in your opinion - nitro 5 or predator helios 300?
Hmm I haven't tested those specs in the Nitro 5 so hard to say... I think they'd probably perform pretty similarly, visually at least the heatpipe design looks quite similar too.
Can I use this laptop for
computer aided drafting? Please respond. Thank youuuu.
Probably, but honestly I recommend anything apart from this laptop due to the throttling issues, you can get better performance with the same specs in about any other machine.
Can you please make a video explaining how to fix the stuttering issue?
I can't, because I wasn't able to fix the problem myself. I also sent the laptop back to ASUS after the review, so can't do further testing. Apparently the new BIOS helps, and people have said GPU undervolting also helped.
Thank u!
I bought it.
No problem, hope it goes well for you.
I bought the FX504GE-EN224T model recently and it's TDP is set to 45W. Maybe they removed the limit in newly manufactured models. There are no issues with thermal throttling while playing games.
Do you actually get 45W after more than a minute of CPU stress test with GPU load going at the same time? CPU only load might be fine, but once you add on both GPU and CPU load together was where I found it to struggle, so in games.
@@JarrodsTechSorry for the late reply. Yes I did the cpu stress test and the cpu power spikes upto 68W(sometimes 70+) and comes back to 45W after about 10-15 seconds. But this only happens when the laptop is connected to the power supply. When it's not connected it doesn't cross 25W. Maybe I'll try the stress test for a longer duration along with the GPU and check.
@@yazyyyyy That sounds normal for a CPU only test, I'd be interested in hearing how both combined CPU and GPU load goes (eg Aida64 + Heaven benchmark at the same time).
@@JarrodsTech I tried what you told today and the results were bad. The cpu could only use about 20-25 W. I'm depressed now. I'll mostly try to return this laptop and buy another one. You helped me out a lot. Thank you so much.
@@yazyyyyy No problem! I mean if it works well for you then it doesn't really matter, your choice though!
Bro can you compare Asus Vivobook S15 and Asus tuf FX504... And recommend which one is better?
Depends if ASUS have that model of Vivobook available for me, I'll try find out, they mentioned recently that they'd have a few models available. In general though I find it difficult to recommend the FX504 in any scenario if the power limit throttling is a common issue.
I'm actually interested into buying this laptop, but I've seen to many complaints about the stuttering. Did the situation change? Did the new settings (undervolting ecc) really make it better?
I sent the laptop back just before the review went up so I haven't been able to perform any further testing. I've been told that some newer models have come out with 1060 graphics, not sure if those resolve the problem.
Jarrod'sTech Thank you very much for the light-quick reply. In the end, do you recommend buying it or the stuttering was too much of a problem?
I wouldn't buy it assuming the problem persists, so find it difficult to recommend.
Hey Jarrod, Which one do you think is better - Asus Tuf (i7 8th gen)(this one) or Dell 7567( i7 7th gen) or Acer Predator Helios 300 (i7 8th gen) or Msi GL i7 8th gen ?? Screen quality and future secure laptop are my top priority.
And I can't seem to decide, due to mixed reviews on all of em
I haven't used any MSI GL series laptops yet, so can't really comment on it, although it looks alright based on the specs and what others have said. I find it difficult to recommend the FX504 personally due to the issues I mention in the video, although some have said this has been fixed with a new BIOS update, but I have not been able to test it as I no longer have the laptop. I'd probably pick the Helios 300 out of those, better CPU and GPU than the Dell, although not quite as good battery life. I've actually got a video coming soon of the Dell G5 vs the Helios 300 which you might find useful.
@@JarrodsTech Thanks man, for the quick reply. I would definitely have the predator and dell as my top preferences. But I'll wait for your dell g5 video.
But - Predator i7 also seems to have similar heating problems.
No problem! It should be up this weekend 👍
Hi, Jarrod. How does this compare to the ROG GL503VD? I'm currently at a toss-up among these two and the Acer Nitro 5.
I haven't tested either of those so hard to say, but I'd be looking at either of them over the FX504 based on the power limit throttling issues I had in my unit, I've heard really good things about the Nitro 5 but still haven't been able to get my hands on it unfortunately, I'll follow up on it with Acer once I send the Helios 500 back tomorrow.
Much obliged, man. Thanks a lot.
In the Philippines, the GL503 comes in i5 7th gen with an SSHD; I thought the TUF would be a superior choice because of the 8th gen i5 and that dust-spewing fan set-up it has. Will look further into it.
hey Jarrod can u tell me which one is best asus tuf or acer nitro 5?
I haven't tested the Nitro, but it seems like the better choice, especially given the power limit throttling present here.
Do you know where i can buy the upgrades online? The ram card and other stuff.
I just got into this kind of Computer and i would like to upgrade mine in the future.
I don't know what country you're in, where ever sells laptop parts, look for sodimm memory
Hey bro i am thinking to buy asus tuf ,is it worth investing in this laptop or should i go acer nitro or predator
I wouldn't buy it myself based on the problems explained throughout the video, I'd probably look at the Acer Nitro instead - hopefully I'll be getting one for review soon.
Wow you ansewr to all questions :o
:o
Hey excuse me it's me again i just want to ask do you recommend this for rendering software?
I am looking for a loptop that can play game and do some rendering work too
Sure, it's decent in terms of specs, but I suggest checking benchmarks of what ever specific software you plan on using on similar hardware to best get an indication of what to expect.
@@JarrodsTech thanks will do.😃
No problem, good luck!
Which laptop would you think to be the better laptop this laptop or the acre nitro 5
Anything, due to the CPU limitations this is one of the worst I've tested, Nitro 5 is better, anything else I've tested I'd recommend over this.
So I’m looking for a laptop for my college (architecture student) and I’m thinking in this asus, i like to play as well and i use to be a console player, will you recommend to buy it??
I find it difficult to recommend due to the power limit throttling issues noted in the video, but if that's been fixed in a newer bios or something then sure it would be a good deal
Im surprised it runs that cool considering the few heat pipes
Yeah I guess the power limit throttling prevents it reaching the full potential and higher temperatures
Is this still worth it in 2022? I'm majoring in computer science and would most likely be carrying this all day so idk if the battery is enough😭
Asus has realeased new versions of this fx504...please review it if possible. Great vid tho
Do you have a link to that? I can only find the old version. In any case they just sent over the older FX503 for me.
Jarrod'sTech newer versions were just launched in India with regular 1060, don't know about US market though.
Here is the link btw
www.digit.in/article/amp/laptops/42693/asus-introduces-new-variants-in-its-tuf-series-of-gaming-laptops-slashes-price-of-existing-models
Interesting, thanks! I'll have to see if I can get a new one, I want to know if they've addressed the power limit throttling I had with this one.
Jarrod'sTech I'll be waiting for that....my budget is around 1000$...dell g7 is out of question now due to overpricing in India... And now I'm leaning towards Rog Strix GL505GE.
Would this WoW comfortably? Want to get a a PC or laptop to get back into it. Would I better off getting a PC?
PC will perform better for less money, so depends if you need the portability aspect of a laptop.
Bro can you review the Hp OMEN 15-dc000 with the intel i78750h 8gb ram 1tb Nvidia 1050 4Gb I just bought this laptop and I think it is an amazing laptop for 3D modeling and 3D animation!!!
Yeah I've heard good things about them, I'm still trying to get in contact with someone at HP, no luck so far.
This model has the i78750H w/ ssd for slightly more $.
