    Wonderful video! I have the same outboard on my Siren 17 and love it. Not even one malfonction in 5 years.

      They are definitely reliable! How do you like the siren? They seem like good boats

      @@ruddyducksailing We love her. Huge cockpit, large sail area (swift acceleration but must reef early in high wind), not as lested as your Newport 16 (only 130 lbs keel). Perfect for our needs. Have her for 9 years until now (about 400 outings).

    These are lovely videos. We have had a C22 and a C27 sailing Lake Superior when our kids were little, now that they are 5,8, and 10 looking to get back into after few year break. Loving the idea of a 15 or 16 footer for little inland lake adventures like these. The setup looks so much more enjoyable than even the C22. 😆 Thanks for the inspiration.

      Let me add additionally, what range of wind do you find comfortable in that Newport? Thanks

    • @ruddyducksailing
      @ruddyducksailing  10 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you! I have been debating on a C22 for additional comfort and storage but you are right the setup is ridiculously easy on the N16. With only one set of stays you simply push the mast up and attach the forestay. No turnbuckles to adjust and tune . It’s a very fun and surprisingly stable boat. It has a big boat feel. I’m comfortable in 15 knots of wind with no reefs ( my main doesn’t even have reef points) 18-20 with just main and 25+ with just the jib downwind. Thanks for watching!

      @@ruddyducksailing that’s super cool. Yeah I feel like above 12 knots with a C22 and you need to reef to be comfortable. We slept two adults and two kids in it though so that’s cool, but you can’t really beach them as the swing keel still hangs below them so it’s tough on the swing point. Just saw a Potter 15 pop up locally and I want it so bad, this me surfing for stuff on them. Anyway, your stuff makes me miss living in Idaho. ✌️

      @@ruddyducksailing I love the c22. easy to trailer and store, 5 hp pushes nicely, favorite trip iis trailering to key largo and sailing overnight to cat key Bahamas. before that I had a 29' keelboat drew 5.5.', spent a lot of time aground in the middle of nowhere so sold it for the c22, love it. you have given me the idea of 2 smaller boats vs 1 larger, I love your videos with both boats and all the boys,

    What app are you using for speed over ground and weather? Just picked up a west wight potter 15 today

    • @ruddyducksailing
      @ruddyducksailing  Год назад +2

      I use I nav x for my navigation app. It has the speed over ground feature amongst other tools like a anchor alarm. For weather I use a local site but a lot of people use windy app around here. Congratulations on the potter!!

    Thanks for the great presentation! I've been looking for either a Newport 16 or a West Wight Potter 15 and this video shows them side by side. BTW, is that a long shaft Yamaha on the N16? Thank you!

    • @ruddyducksailing
      @ruddyducksailing  11 месяцев назад

      Hey thanks for watching. They are both fun boats. Yes the Yamaha is a long shaft and I would definitely recommend it over the short. Mine has never cavitated in large waves where the short shaft Honda has quite a bit. Having an adjustable motor bracket would help but that’s just more weight and complexity.

    What lake is that? Are you aloud to stay overnight on the water? Most all lakes in my area, (so. cal.), you have to be off the water by sunset. A real bummer.

    • @ruddyducksailing

      That is a bummer you can’t stay overnight down there. That’s one of our favorite parts of sailing is staying the night and hanging out with good friends. Best way to relax and decompress!

      @@ruddyducksailing Agreed 👍. I'm working on the electrical right now but I still get to sail on the weekends mostly out of Long Beach, CA. After the lights work it's off to Catalina for us. Newport Venture 23. Have fun 😄

    • @breakingwind_sailing
      @breakingwind_sailing 10 месяцев назад

      @@bobstephens410 We actually use several. Lake Perris, Diamond Valley, Lake Skinner, Castaic and Pyramid lakes.
      Havisu lake is the closest one to me that allows night boating.
      So I usually just drop my boat in the ocean. Havisu is at least 4hrs. One way....
