Used pinlock for years , but didn’t know it came in 3 grades, found out that 120 is the best , used by gp drivers , it’s expensive, but fitted it to my latest winter helmet , it’s brilliant and woudnt go back to grade 7 or the other one ( which I’ve forgotten) . 😊😊👍👍👍 also don’t forget that the tabs your pinlock attaches to visor can be turned to improve the seal😊👍🤣
Mine came with the helmet, I was surprised to see it was the most expensive, considering what I paid for the helmet, 260 for that helmet, is my best buy ever hahaha
Im due to upgrade my motorcycle Helmets (two of them ) & after seeing this video il be going PINLOCK on both Full face & Modular Helmets ☺️👍 Cheers from Bundaberg Australia 🇦🇺🍹🕺
I had no idea what a pin lock was and after watching this super excellent video, I now know what it is and will buy a helmet that has the pin lock system
Brilliant vid! That yellow film is a bugger to get off and find the edge! I just sat it on my lap and slid it in the pinlock on one side, then folded it onto the visor until I got the the other end, then slightly flexed the visor ever so slightly outwards so the other pin lock slipped into place. Job done! Thanks again! 👍
Vanessa Ruck you did an excellent video about the Pinlock system, I didn't know what Pinlock meant when I saw it on the features of an AGV Helmet. After watching your video I am now au fait with the Pinlock System and its features and know how to install and care for it. Thank You!!
Great video, thanks for simplifying this whole pinlock issue. I've always heard about these but never understood the practical benefit nor the installation process. Thank you!
Amazing - my first helmet (5yrs) actually came with that and I had no idea what was! I thought it eas some type of sunshade and could never figure out how to use it.. 😂😂😂😂
My first helmet came pinlock ready and I purchased clear, yellow and dark lenses. I used yellow in winter, great for toning down the welter of headlights and traffic signals in town. Used dark in summer in S. Europe (no need ever in the UK). Only problem, it does nothing for fogging spectacles in winter.
outstanding video! I recently purchased a shoei Neotec II with this system. Your video is so much better than the written instructions! thank you Miss Vanessa!
Shoot me down in flames, but I've never had fogging issues with modern, ventilated helmets, regardless of (UK) season. But thanks for the explanation, which is excellent.
Great video. I have two different helmets with them and never used them. Do they distort vision in any way? I'm a bit older and not a clear as years gone past lol. thanks.
Might be useful to add that some Pinlocks are available that tint react in sunlight (I have this on my Ruroc), before buying a helmet, also check what Pinlock options are available to you, especially if your helmet does not have a built in sun visor.
Excellent instructions. When I bought my AVG helmet it came with a free pinlock. The guy at the Honda/infinity shop installed it on the visor. After a week of use the pinlock fell off my visor. I put it back on but it kept falling off. Then I took the visor off to see what was going on with it. And I noticed that the pinlock is a few millimetres short of where it needs to reach at the two little screws. So now I have to take it back to the shop and have them sort it out. By the way, pinlock is extremely effective. It reduces fogging massively. I would say completely eliminates fogging in non winter months. We'll see how it performs in winter. But I would highly recommend it anyways. 👍
I have that to. Works when its not raining or snowing. So when I drive in rain it really get between the pinlock and visor. Have checked and can see any gaps between. So I would says it is not working in every weather.
Just bought a transitions lens for my Shoei RF1200. Don’t have any opinion on applying a pinlock insert on this type of visor? Are there any downsides? Thanks in advance!
Thank you for this video. I found my Pinlock(70) insert touches the visor (MT V14) and creates some patches of vacuum. Is this something normal? Although my previous SMK came with a built-in Pinlock, that didn't create any such patches.
Oh that sounds frustrating. My tip is to double check you out 100% have the right pin lock for the visor. If yes then I'd suggest removing, cleaning and reinstalling to see if that helps. They can be a little fiddly. I hope you get it sorted as they should work smoothly. Worst case maybe reach out to pin lock for support?
You may also want to try adjusting the settings on the pins to apply more or less pressure. Possiable less if it's pushing the pinkock too close to the visor?
Thanks for your replies. Update: I switched to "fog-off", which is a cheaper and more universal alternative. I plan to change them more often. I also learned that pinlock visors with rubbery beading that traps air are subject to wear and tear, given the visor's exposure to direct sunlight, you should be changing it every once in a while.
@@VigneshPai did you watch this video at all? everything you said was mentioned in the video, and further elaborated on how it works and make it last. The tension on your pinlock was too high, and the bead is SILICONE, not rubber, and doesnt degrade in sunlight. so youre spreading fake BS info
honestly for me the fogging problem is my glasses much more than my shield. ive used pinlock before and its good to have i guess. it does work so if you dont wear glasses it can help without popping up the visor
For glasses you need to keep the visor closed, keep the inside of your helmet at body temperature, this will prevent water vapour from condensing on your glasses. 😉
Great demonstration - very thorough. Don't think the explanation of how it works applies when indoors. The visor and Pinlock are both at room temperature - any improvement seen indoors must be from coatings - which should have been applied to the visor in the first place.
The Pinlock has a hydrophilic surface which absorbs the tiny water droplets that form when a helmet fogs up. That's why you have to make sure it dries out between uses. The air lock helps as well.
Removed that pinlock with much difficulty, thinking it to be a nuisance with yellow blurry vision.😳 Like a mind reader Google algorithm came up with this video and educated me.👍
What position should indicator pins be in before/after installation? Do they adjust the tension and how will you know if the are in the correct position?
There is 180 degrees of adjustment. There is probably a small arrow on the pin. It' s a cam so turning it either applies more or less pressure on the ends of the pinlock insert. The insert needs to be squeezed between the pins enough to make it pop onto the visor. If you don't have enough pressure it may not seal correctly. I think trial an error will show you what setting works best. And it may change over time as the pinlock insert shrinks and expands depending on how much water it has absorbed.
I need to get this for my hrlmet. Used the Oxford anti fog spray on it and it was the worst ever! Ended up doing 80 kph on a state highway, with visor fully open, blinded by the eind at 5 am, because it fogged up completely! Damn Oxford made it 10 times worse! Any idea how to get that crap off again?
Have a helmet with pinlock getting rid as in rain water runs between 2 visors! Cant see! Prefer single visor, used to that after 35 years on bikes. Ordered nice matt black lid to match my black exterior 🫣🧐😂
why did yall remove the course raider 2.0/course surfer Pinlock, i bought the helmet, and now the pinlock is not available anymore. Plus now my visor is all fogged up when i ride. if not bringing it back, is there something i can do to prevent the condensation?
Nice product but it's very disappointing XLMoto doesn't have a pinlock for my Course Raider helmet while their website tells me there's a pinlock available: "Pinlock70 prepared, lens not included". So now I have a helmet which is unusable.
Dutch company makes pinlock screens, quite the monopoly. I once cleaned my pinlock screen with Plexus plastic cleaner and thought I ruined it, as it reacted to the cleaner and became soft. But, it evaporated and all was well again. Moral of the story, be careful what you clean it with.
Tip. You need to have no moisture in the pinlock visor or it will condense and fog up. Do the job inside a walk-in refrigerator where the air is cold and more importantly, dry.

The pins are built into the visor usually and can be popped out and rotated for adjustment they are cam shaped. One pin on each side of the visor close to where it mounts and pivots on the helmet. Not all visors have pins and therefore not all visors are suitable for use with Pinlock inserts.
Doesn’t help the vision? Apparently you’ve never had a visor fog up essentially keeping you from seeing at all. This prevents that at a cost of a little bit of blur and/or interesting light artifacts. It allows me to keep my visor mostly closed helping block cold air on my face and it doesn’t fog up. I’ll take the slight blurriness and light artifacts to cure that problem aspect. Easy to clean, take it off, clean what needs to be. Used it during winter very easily to maintain. Yeah it takes a bit to remove and clean then put it back on. Maybe your expectations are unrealistic. I have needed to clean mine 0 times. The outside of your visor is what gets dirty. If your inside is getting dirty something else is the real problem or you aren’t cleaning it right in the first place before putting it on.
