Had a patient who drove himself to the ER after being stabbed twice in the chest - both of his lungs were collapsed. After he was stabilized, we asked him why he drove instead of calling 911. He said the ambulance would have taken longer than his own car. 💀💀💀

Age of consent and marriageable age is not the same. Most states do NOT have a minimum age requirement for marriage, as long as there is parental consent. Children can be married to grown adults if their parents sign off on it. Child marriage is very much a legal practice in America. 😢

My husband became paralyzed on his dominant side (left) after a big heart operation which was a miracle. My children helped with physio, washing him , getting in / out of car and the wheelchair. After his death my daughter admitted to me that, previously she saw people in wheelchairs , remembered strangers talk over their father as if the wheelchair made him invisible or unworthy to acknowledge. Now, when they see a stranger in a wheelchair, they greet them and comment on the wheelchair . Just like people would about different car models.

My father became paralysed from waist down after aneurysm caused spinal stroke. He had a life saving op but less than 10% chance survival. He survived but now suffers many health issues. I hate when people look down on him as he already feels awful. He is a veteran and was disabled after the army but not to this extent he is now. Sorry you lost him. Sending hugs 💜

I'm surprised no one knows that in the state of California, there is no minimum age requirement for a minors' marriage with parental consent. And there is no federal minimum age of consent that would make this invalid. States are allowed to make their own laws and rules regarding marriage. In the state of California, the child has a valid SS , parents consent , nothing prevents the judge from processing the marriage . It is within good faith most people would hope that the judge would use their discretion and not allow the marriage, but it is not illegal to allow it.

Inheritance story: I think it's fine that OP treated her daughter and stepkids the same when they were growing up. However, that doesn't mean the stepkids are entitled to receive any Inheritance from OP's family.
In the story, OP's husband is divorced so where is his ex-wife and her family in the stepkids' lives. They have much more responsibility for those kids than OP and her family.
I drove to the hospital while in labor, rushed to Labor and Delivery, and gave birth naturally without pain meds to my son. You can do anything when motivated.

I have bladder issues and a lot of places don’t have public restrooms unless you’re purchasing something. Lots of gas stations in my area just don’t have bathrooms. So I am used to popping a squat and I don’t see the issue with peeing outside occasionally. Of course, don’t get caught! You could catch a charge for that 😭
SAME!! And yes.. it’s common sense not to pee somewhere that you could possibly be exposed. I’m pretty sure (with an exception of children and boyfriends/husbands.. ohh yea and drunk women.. who don’t really care if they pee right in front of you 😂😂) outside pee’ers make sure they are hidden. I can’t believe I’m admitting this, but I’ve even peed in my backyard and I’m a chick! I couldn’t find my keys bc I had to pee so bad so it was either in my pants or cop a squat🤫
I’ve done it thousands of times. Thousands. I use to keep TP and a trash bag in my car just in case I needed to pop a squat. Of course, I live in the sticks so it’s really not that uncommon for everyone to pee outside.

Marriage age is allowed with parents consent, on underage in 40 states, and only 10 of these have minimum ages. I am surprised that this is a surprise to you. It is a huge issue for women as it is mainly girls married off at 8, 10 etc.

I’m with Riley with the superglue. They literally use superglue in the hospitals now (instead of stitches), as long as there isn’t anything underneath that they have to fix. Even family members that are nurses use glue instead of going to the hospital (for themselves). Glue is $3. A hospital bill is $30k.
Superglue was invented for surgery.
Using super glue and duct tape to seal up wounds is very common down south.. I’m sure we’re not the only ones who do this but I cannot tell you how many people I know (including myself) who have used this “method” rather than going to the er. Especially older folks. I’m a hairdresser and I actually cut my freaking knuckle damn near off about 7 years ago.. I’m anemic so I bleed fairly easy and a lot. Bandaids just weren’t working. I bled straight through them and went through an entire box of bandaids. Finally I found some gauze and duct tape. Worked like a charm. I’ve used duct tape several times for cuts in the middle of a haircut bc sometimes the bandaids just don’t hold well enough.
Deffo not the only ones to use glue. It was first used on the battle ground to get people up and out and back fighting. But it works if it's a small superficial cut.

I found out, when it comes to Nature v. Nuture, it’s Nature every time. Ppl r born who they r unless there r drastic events that change how ppl r nurtured (mental or physical illness, abuse, poverty, wealth).
Thats why u can hv 2 kids + 1 lives a normal, happy life + the other winds up in prison. It’s who they are.
Inheritance story: I wonder if a conversation was had with the stepchild about a turning 17 house. Because if it didn’t, the child is coming across as entitled. Where is the bio mother in the situation? Shouldn’t any gifts/inheritance come from the child’s parents instead of them relying on OP to provide for their children? If the stepchildren get an inheritance from their parents then get an inheritance from OP, they are getting double the inheritance that OP’s daughter will end up with and that is not fair to the daughter!

There are exceptions of course, but very few. Unless there is absolutely no way to use toilet nearby it’s a no-no.

I (F49) pee outside near my chicken coop to keep predators away. I would LIKE my dogs to do it, but my dogs prefer to pee elsewhere because they consider our hens their family and rude to pee in the hens' space.

In my state, age of consent is 16, you can get married at 17 with parental consent. You can get married at 16 if you petition the court and they approve it.

I think the post about the husband asking the wife not to hang out with her friend is actually written by the wife. The way it was written definitely paints the wife and the friends as the best people and the husband as the stupid, unreasonable one. I mean, she's a literature major, and she's pretty good at writing if her friend asked her to start writing some articles. The husband sounds totally asshole-ish that it feels fake. He can't be aware of the wife and her friend's good qualities yet be so unaware of his faults. Like, if he wrote this and read what he wrote, he would obviously know how unreasonable he sounds. Why would he post this and expect to be called anything less than an asshole? I think the wife wrote this, but she doesn't want to come off as someone who badmouths her husband, so it's written in the husband's pov. Or maybe she's flexing her writing skills. No, these guys have an inflated sense of self worth and believe that anything they do is good because they're the one doing it. There are several posts of guys talking about destroying their girlfriends property, or cheating, or getting rid of pets and having no self awareness that they're making themselves look awful (and they're writing to make themselves look better, imagine how bad they actually are if this is the squeaky version). This story feels like it's written by someone like my oh so loving cousin who will be really polite and talk about how people he doesn't agree with aren't bad people, right before calling them disgusting degenerates.
If you go listen to the podcast "some place underneath" they did an awesome multiple part series on child marriage in the US (I haven't researched for Canada). Sadly the majority of states allow it, some states don't even hace a minimum. It is often used to avoid statutory rape charges. I have nothing else to add, it's tragic :(

When my son was 5, we were at the airport waiting to be picked up. He told me he had to pee. I'm trans. My state is trying to make it a law that if a trans women to uses a woman's bathroom, or a trans man to use the men's bathroom. They can get charged with a felony. With that being said. I support peeing outside. Trans people are gonna have issues no matter where they pee. So what makes the difference? 🤷🏼♂️

I think my parent’s deal for a first car is one of the best ways to go about it. For our first cars they would match whatever we were giving and pay half for a car. My first car cost $8,000 and I paid $4,000 of it while my parents covered the rest. My brother wanted a nicer car and so spent more of his own money on his half so my parents matched and paid half for that car. This way we still had to learn about saving and spending money while still being able to get a nice car if we wanted
I cut off the tip of my thumb cooking dinner last month. My mom gifted me a new knife set that was horribly balanced and they attacked. I wasn't even cutting something dangerous like sweet potato, it was lettuce! We were having shrimp salads for dinner. Funny enough, it was the same day as the total eclipse, so the doctor told me to blame that 😂. I yelled at my husband to bring gauze and he all but threw me in the car demanding the ER. Good thing, I guess, because I was apparently anemic at the time and it didn't want to stop bleeding. I lost at least 25 oz of blood. They had to cauterize it and I still bled through three more gauze wraps. Read online that if you cut off around a 1/4th an inch or less that it will grow back, shockingly, it appears to be true. Aside from the scars from the cauterization, it is nearly back to normal.
Peeing outside in your own backyard once in a while isnt a big deal imo. I do it too. I have a urinary drainage bag so its very easy for me. I have family who do it. Its always far away from everyone and in a hidden corner.
Also my grandma used super glue for small wounds on her and her dogs.
Glue, like tampons was originally made for dealing with wounds in the war

Although I believe step parents should treat their step kids as equal children I think when the question of inheritance comes up it’s a lot more iffy. I mean OP kid doesn’t have another parent where as the step kids do so it wouldn’t actually be fair for it to be so split among the kids when the other two are going to end up with more anyway
It's tacky to pee in the garden or backyard. Use a toilet whenever one is available within a half a mile. If anyone did that in my yard they would not be welcome back because it's a dirty, tacky habit.
It's just stupid to go to a toilet if you can pee in nature without disturbing anybody. It's actually good for the soil. I certainly won't run for the bathroom if I'm standing close to our compost ... 🤦♂️
I think someone is misinformed. I can't find anything to support the claim that southern states are trying to lower the age for marriage. In fact, I found the opposite. There are multiple states pushing through legislation to make it so no one under 18 can get married, even with parental consent. Missouri and Virginia are two southern states that were listed as currently working on that.
I also found that California will allow anyone to marry at ANY age with parental consent.

No matter the size of the cut, glueing your wound is not a good idea. You could trap bacteria or dirt inside & then a infection could present. I’ve seen it sooooooooo many times. It’s much worse than what actual wound care would have done & takes much longer to heal. In some cases it can develop a staphylococcal infection. I’ve seen that many times too. Just a lil FYI in case anyone was deciding on if they should glue their cut instead of seeking care. The more ya know 🌈
Riley, it doesnt matter what we all say, we arent living with you. The opinions of the people you current share a living space with are the only ones that matter. Its illegal to pee outside in most public spaces, you can get in serious trouble for creating hazardous conditions with improperly disposed human waste. Thats not just poop, that includes pee.

That being said: peeing in public is disgusting. If more pee accumulates than can be broken down by nature within hours, it starts to stink. That's why peeing in public spaces in settlements should be a big nono ...

why do people say divorce so easily. What about therapy ? Change and acceptance takes time and perspective. Think about how people process. Divorce isn’t something you order at a restaurant… many years together -respect the sanctity and each other … and try to find some middle ground. I’m not sure if I’m going to continue listening if this is the standard. It’s not the most helpful. some people work, their whole lives to try and be a better partner. Marriage is not about giving up. it’s different if it were about abuse or neglect or cheating or something, but this wasn’t the case in the scenario

Those saying in the south it's 12 may want to do some fact checking. Wow. There are a couple the age of consent is 13 same age. But most that allow 13 are northern states.

Currently the brother is fully in control of op and their other brothers inheritance. Basically he’s got power of attorney over the family inheritance. also, how many kids are there plus regardless if they buy all the kids a house still none of the stepkids are going to be getting inheritance. I feel like it makes sense. Because if the step kids get an inheritance, from their biological family then OP‘s daughter isn’t gonna get any of it..sure they could pay out of pocket for the oldest kids house but will they be over doing it? Will there be money left over to survive on? To retire? Or will they be working until they are 90 years old to pay off their own house plus the houses of 3 stepkids? It just doesn’t seem realistic to me and I guess that again depends on how much money op has at her disposal but also for inheritance for herself and for her daughter to live on what if one or both of them lose their jobs?
Would it be nice for all the kids to get an even amount of everything for their whole lives? Of course it would but unfortunately life doesn’t work like that and there is no way to make things even every time. Op kid only has one bio parent and the other kids have 2 bio parents. I have a sister in law who has both of her bio parents plus 2 step parents so she had 4 parents. I have one mother in law and that’s it cause I’m technically an orphan .
Think about this inheritance like a life insurance policy should this life insurance policy be split between all the kids even though the money was intended for op and her daughter or should it be spoilt with people who have no connection to the person the money came from? It’s a bit weird but I can see why it’s conflicting for sure
RE: House for stepkids
I vote to confidentially explain the situation and that while she loves them she feels her hands are tied to preserve the biological daughters relationship with the family. Alternatively, the money she would have been put into a house per tradition she will put in an interest bearing account that will be an additional wedding present. Given the cultural & familial ramifications I feel this is the best compromise with the least risk of getting called out.
