    I don't understand why anyone thinks ops wife has an obligation to this kid. So she used be married to his Dad bf the kid was even convinced. How does that make her responsible? So its her kids sibling - still not her kid, still not her responsibility. My ex had a kid wheb we split up. He died and then his wife died yesrs later. Nobody thought I had a responsibility to their kid.

    Second story has me confused… OP’s wife is not the mother of the ex’s son. It sounds like she was a girlfriend who was consistently put in bad situations and whose daughter was yoinked from her as leverage. Doesn’t sound like she is a monster or was intentionally blaming the son,,, sounds like she was a girlfriend who did not take up the mantle to be a parent to that son when she was already trying to sort things out for her daughter and herself.

    • @SlothyCappuccino94
      @SlothyCappuccino94 20 дней назад

      No they were married I believe. And had a bad break up that involved the ex trying to say bad sh!t about her to get leverage for the kid. Then he remarried, had another kid, that woman lost custody, and then the husband died. So OP wanted to take in his wife’s late-ex husband’s child bc he himself is infertile so he’s very family oriented and wants to keep the half brother of/with OP’s step daughter instead of him going into the foster system

    Maybe it’s to late for Sam to process this that kid isn’t hers she did nothing wrong she didn’t abandon her own child she choose not to build a relationship with a kid that wasn’t hers which is normal she it really a saint for taking in her exes child

  • @thisishowitends

    Nah, Sam, come off it. Before her ex died, OP's wife had no obligation to form a relationship with Levi. She still has no obligation to him, and if she had declined the suggestion, she still would not have been a monster because of it. You don't need a reason to not want to take in any kid that isn't yours (looking at you, Kara) let alone your ex's kid. Her responsibility is to her own daughter. She wasn't avoiding or resenting Levi. She was avoiding her ex, who had sole custody of Levi. What reason would she have to form a relationship with Levi? Just because Levi is her daughter's sibling doesn't mean she needs to connect with him. As long as she was giving her daughter access to her brother, she wasn't doing anything wrong. Levi's situation is heartbreaking, but you can be sympathetic to someone's situation without taking it on yourself to be responsible for resolving that situation. It's great that she is considering taking on that responsibility, but she isn't redeeming anything because there's nothing to redeem. Lay off.

      Being a parent is so much work. And it is expensive! OP never talks about the logistics about bringing a small child into the house. The man only talks about ‘love’ ‘having a family’ but none of the work. Do they have space? Do they have the money? Does OP do equal work in the household? I get a bad vibe off of OP that he’ll hold her resistance to taking on Levi over her head. I don’t think it’s going to end well.

    • @agentleferdinand
      @agentleferdinand 5 месяцев назад +20

      I’m so glad to see that there are people in the comments that know unequivocally that OP’s wife would in no way be the asshole for not automatically feeling obligated to take on someone else’s child; as if that isn’t a huge undertaking and lifelong commitment. I’m thrilled for the outcome, but that it was being alluded to that she might be anything less than a totally reasonable human being for not making that decision was a little more than a little absurd…

    The kinship foster story i think you didn’t comprehend properly the story. Op said his wife didn’t like to go do custody drop off because of the ex, not because she didn’t want to see her daughter’s half brother. And op was wording things wrongly. He said he was worried his wife wouldn’t want to take in Levi,.. not that she defiantly didn’t. Just he was worried it might come to that and he wanted advice BEFORE he ever talked to her about Levi. That’s a whole different story so when at the end op wrote i hope it doesn’t make anyone think bad of his wife and then Sam said well we kinda do because she didn’t want to see the boy Levi,.. thats not what happened it was just op’s choice of verbiage.

    • @kskidspastor

      Yes. It sounded to me like she was afraid to develop a bond with a child that she had no legal rights to, because her ex was such a horrible person and might rip him away from her. I never took it that she had anything against the child.

    • @emilyjohn2034

      @@kskidspastor like whoa a woman who was abused by a guy doesn’t want to put the abuser in a position where he can’t easily continue to abuse her? That’s so crazy how selfish of her to not stay close to her abuser. Like she didn’t avoid Levi because she didn’t like him she avoided him because his sole parent was her abuser that’s why she agreed to it after said abuser was out of the picture I’d be willing to bet (OP even says he thinks she distanced herself BECAUSE she knew she’d love Levi and didn’t want her abuser to have the leverage over her)

    Heads up people with kids. The first parent to file for parental rights/custody, is usually the person who gets legal custody, even if they've never met the child. Save yourself a ton of hell and go to the courthouse and file as custodial parent. My sis lost her kid this way. I maintained custody of mine because I was first to file.

    Being in an abusive relationship ruins you mentally and emotionally. She had no obligation to take in Levi or form a connection with him before his dad died. She didn’t even need to after, it’s just the morally right thing to do. Also she was already trying her best letting her kid have a relationship with Levi, she’s been more than gracious

    For the Levi (potential foster care story), it would be a kinship placement and the category of “fictive kin”. Neither adult is related to the child but there is a connection with the wife being the ex and the shared sibling who have met and formed a bond. Overall the placement would still qualify for kinship placement in which the parents can attend classes and become certified foster parents for the child, receive a stipend to assist with care of the child and so on. I’m glad the wife agreed and they are moving forward with working towards placement.

    My conspiracy theory at 15:11 is that the wife is just a messenger. The husband wants someone to take care of him in his old age, and he thinks that because OP has a toddler, he might be able to 'bribe' her into thinking she needs to be with him and he would have her. I think he just wants to use OP and uses the toddler to try to manipulate her. Since he doesn't have a wife anymore, he tries to go for OP.

    A womans perspective on the first story, you don't fuck around with guys that threaten you. Especially someone as manipulative as that man was. You're extremely vulnerable when you're pregnant and afterwards you dont want any harm to come to you or your kid. The whole idea of "taking him down" even if he deserves it, opens you and your family up to more abuse and if it gets bad enough, violence. It's not worth it.

It's nice that she did it but it would be totally understandable if she didn't. The AHs are all of that child's biological family. And her ex for treating her that way when he was alive.

    I hate to break it to a lot of people but staying with someone just because of the kids is not good for the kids. That’s very toxic actually because they can see that resentment grow also because someone had a baby with two separate people doesn’t mean it’s good for the kids to get together and be close. Is it ideal yes Can it turn into my beautiful wonderful thing, but it can also turn into a very messy situation a very toxic and traumatizing situation for the children. Also kids to consent all of this so I agree with by keeping her from all the drama issues going on he was clearly a predator of some sort because she was 26 and he was 42. That’s just predatory to me. I, feel like we have to remember that age is a number and should be considerate consider it until you’re like in your 40s because you don’t have the capability to cognitively think like a full adult does when you’re in your early 20s it’s between 24 and 29 to 30 that we develop Cognitive skills or frontal lobe so our consequences where we learn consequences and things like that so your brain isn’t fully developed longer so that being said some predatory situation going on if you ask me my opinion, but I am not a professional so let’s keep that in mind alsoI think he was probably gonna do something to her with the way that he reacted when he couldn’t find her and all this other stuff so yeah I don’t think she should meet with the kids right off the bat. I think she needs to really sit back and assess and get to know the wife maybe her just meet the wife but do not bring your kids into the situation until you know it is 100% safe.

    24:01 I'm going to have to disagree with both of you. Full heartedly takes custody of a child to a point that you had no legal chance of getting the child and it's been several months maybe even a few years of you not having that child why would you fight for that child again when you have less contact with that child in the first place. Not to mention biologically it's not her kid so she has no legal or biological moral value to even fight for the kids. Yes it does suck but it's not her problem no matter who says it should be. Even if they take in the child He would be the only one taking care of them, and you can't get mad at her for not wanting to if she doesn't want to and he can't complain about it either as it was his choice to take him in and not hers. Kind of like when one partner gets a pet and expect the other partner to also take care of the pet when they didn't want the pet in the first place. And then everyone call the other partner and asshole because they don't want to help take care of a pet that they didn't want. People need to stop thinking morally responsibilities is someone else's just because as an excuse

    I'm sorry but for a 26-year-old OP should've known better; it's not like she's 18. Ladies (and some gentlemen), if you find out your boyfriend is married and gives you every excuse as to why him and his wife are in this arrangement, you need to leave. You are playing with fire and it's a dangerous game. I felt like OP believed she had a one-up on the wife and hoped her ex would leave his wife for her and raise their kid. And it didn't end up that way; hence why she's in her current situation and still covering for him by not telling his wife the full truth because it would make her look bad. She's very lucky he did end her permanently that night when he contacted her.

      Yes, it may sound stupid, but it's a divorce when they actually get a divorce. No "we're just together for the kids", no "I'm just waiting for (insert anything)". He/she is divorced when they present you the divorce decree.

      She literally says she never expected him to leave his wife for her. Stop blaming the young woman who got manipulated by a crappy creep. Staying married while being separated is extremely normal if your kids aren’t adults yet. She was naive yes but had no reason to not believe him.

    • @rangecat
      @rangecat 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@emilyjohn2034 Still she should have left if they were separated. Divorce means when a two people's marriage completely ends, not when they're "in the process". I am not defending this man at all, but given her age she should have known better that these situations happen when (1) having unprotected relations can result in an unwanted pregnancy (2) getting into a relationship with a still married man. How many stories have you listened to where the man has ended the woman because he didn't want the pregnancy? Before he tried convincing her to get rid of her pregnancy, she was still hoping for a future with this man.

      @@rangecat except separated but not fully divorced is actually a legal thing. Separation DOES mean you can be with other people especially since many places require up to multiple years of separation before divorce can be finalized.
