Thanks for this. I find most of these kinds of videos are either way too slow or there's too much yapping and filler. You nail it! Just the right pace and good content.
a teacher can explain, a player can play, but a person who has the spirit whit 'em them , only a sunshine of explaination is given, which you have done very spirtually. good teaching , keep up the good work/method of teaching
Thanks for posting these cool licks. I love the blending of the minor and major sounds, plus the double stops. Your lesson pace is also great. THANK YOU for playing the entire lick at a reduced speed and not talking all the way through it!!
Thank you for all your videos! In the 1980/90s I was a lead guitar player. Have not played for years. Planning the 25th reunion of the last gig of our band. I am 66 and can't remember what I used to play? Need to learn all over again! Should be easier this time because of video lessons!
+Darrell Braun Guitar and congrats. you've been guitar worlded!!!! www.guitarworld.com/lesson-videos-blues-jazz/three-blues-riffs-every-guitarist-should-know/29693
Everytime, i watch one of your lessons, I get a little extra to spice my solos up with - even I'm familiar with the pentatonic scale. I'll express it like, I get an "Aha moment" and my desire to improve just increases. Thanks again, Darrell - for your cool spirit as well 👍🎸 Actually, I was just about there, where I didn't watch much lessons, because some of the guitarists talks more than they teach. You get right to business, and I haven't been bored for a split secund yet 👅
Was literally just thinking about learning some new riffs today! :) Also that tone is absolutely killer and these are some tasty tasty riffs! Anyways see ya next Monday! Keep up the awesome work! -Aaron (It's also my birthday with I know has nothing to do with any of this but thought I'd share haha)
Super neato! I'm primarily a sax player and I believe it's good to try licks from a different instrument's point of view. Thanks for the fantastic video!!!
Hey Darrel I really liked this video you talked to me in your last video in the comments section for a little bit, but with this video I don't know how to read sheet music but I know other things but I'm learning it now
I can't believe that I've just discovered your channel. First, I want to ask you if you're totally self taught. I'm excluding you from picking with friends coming up. Did you actually have formal instruction? My opinion is formal instruction is a double edged sword. It can box a person in as probably it would have done if I took lessons. All that aside, you're an excellent teacher. My go to source for learning the old 70 licks, you know the usual suspects, is "Shut Up and Play" I think this guy is great at demonstrating and verbalizing his offerings. Having said that, I'm not even going to go there and say who I think is best.I will say this, I am subscribing to your channel. You're not only an excellent player, your articulation is very impressive. I'm glad I ran across your channel, or actually running into your channel.Hurt my head like a big WOW!
Darrel I've just subscribed to you channel after watching a few of you videos !!!!! Got to say you come up with wonderful content in you videos which also cover many asked questions I simple love this channel now & would recommend it to any guitaris (Beginner to Advanced) Brillint stuff thank you ..... Shane from England ....
excellent video. I like how you used chromatic runs, that's one of the things I love about playing blues; you can use every note as long as you put them in the right places
I know the blues and Pentatonic scales but they never sound like this. This is how I would like to play. Great instructional video. Got any others like this?
If you wanna practice that till someone wants to throw you out a window thats ok.. hahahahhahaha oh man I couldn't stop laughing.. Thanks for the lesson your time is appreciated.
Real nice! I'm going to try to implement some of this into bass playing and see how it goes... I also noticed your left hand twitching some. When you record videos are you excited, nervous, or something else?
This was really awesome, the only thing wrong with the third riff was that it ends with the octave and not the flat 7th. The tablature and the sheet music both said that from the low A you jump to the A an octave above. Other than that, great job!
Hey Darrell - Happy to support you and buy your blues licks. Do all the other licks also come with an MP3 so we can hear how they're supposed to sound?
I have the same question. I bought also the other licks but it would be very helpfull to hear how they're supposed to sound. That would be great. Also an example of the riffs with a backing track. I'm a medium beginner. And I'm willing to pay for that. Thanks for the great lessons.
Great vid! Not to point out mistakes but the "A7" chord you refer to concluding lick 3 is supposed to end as just an A chord, the tab indicates the last note as 7th feet of the D string.
Great information Darrell, you explained everything well! I am beginning guitarist so just a question. Would you use these riffs as a starting point and work from there or would you use as a continuation? Hope that makes sense. Thanks B
+Brian Keesler Hi Brian! I would use these licks as a launch point for blues improvisation, but some of them could be linked together into longer phrases :)
What I like about your approach is that we don't have to wait three hours before seeing some action. Less talk, more music, keep up the good work!
Thanks for this. I find most of these kinds of videos are either way too slow or there's too much yapping and filler. You nail it! Just the right pace and good content.
+cgavin1 Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it :)
Darrell Braun Guitar which guitar is good if I want to play songs of green day and Metallica
+Új ßádshàh Any guitar equipped with humbuckers will do just fine to cover Metallica :)
Darrell Braun Guitar thanks alot

great guitar sound
great video well explained. can you do a video that helps people to learn improvising solo's and the theory behind it?
+ben boyce I'll add it to my list :)
Thanks dude !
very nice. especially like the music theory commentary
+joseph humphrey Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed the video :)
Nice licks. In the third tab, you have the last note shown as 7 (A) but you are actually playing 5 (G) to make the A7.
+Martin Gregory Yes, I made an error on the TAB. Stick with the G (A7).
Once again outstanding video
Thanks!!! These will be very useful :)
+William Simanjuntak No problem! I'm glad the video was helpful :)
Dude thank you so much this really actually taught me something.
+LE K3RMANATOR Nice! Glad you found it helpful :)
excellent video. I like how you used chromatic runs, that's one of the things I love about playing blues; you can use every note as long as you put them in the right places
+Music Playlists Thanks!
Yeah, there is a lot of freedom to mix different playing styles with-in the blues. ☺
I know the blues and Pentatonic scales but they never sound like this. This is how I would like to play. Great instructional video. Got any others like this?
so understandable, so simple.... just great, man. saved my butt
+Rock21 Glad to help! ☺

the first riff reminds me the solo of the devil on my shoulder by Billy Talent
Coriolis yeah kinda
Sweet, Thanks again.
+Edward Obermaier 👍 😀
If you wanna practice that till someone wants to throw you out a window thats ok.. hahahahhahaha oh man I couldn't stop laughing.. Thanks for the lesson your time is appreciated.
These are amazing licks and you have got Great sound KEEP İT
+Cihan Yıldırım Thanks! I appreciate it :)
nice ideas!!! FYI the last note of the third riff you play a G (flat 7) and not and A (root) like written ;-)
+DENSAYO Yes, I made an error on the TAB!
Either way sounds good, but I would stick with the A7 :)
so dope, thank you
+Garrett Geeslin 👍 Glad you enjoyed it!
Those are incredible!!
Real nice! I'm going to try to implement some of this into bass playing and see how it goes... I also noticed your left hand twitching some. When you record videos are you excited, nervous, or something else?

Great lesson! Could you do one specifically on vibrato? Thanks.
+TheMerryPup Sure, I'll add it to the list :)
Great! Thanks, Darrell.
Hey Darrell - Happy to support you and buy your blues licks. Do all the other licks also come with an MP3 so we can hear how they're supposed to sound?
+Scott Rempel Thanks!
I've had a few requests for audio files to go with the paper copy. I'll see if I can get that done soon!
I have the same question. I bought also the other licks but it would be very helpfull to hear how they're supposed to sound. That would be great. Also an example of the riffs with a backing track. I'm a medium beginner. And I'm willing to pay for that. Thanks for the great lessons.

Just play it as an A7 :)
