Okay, I'll save all you RUclipsr guitar nuts a lot of time. Trust me, watching this very basic video will save you from watching all the other 323,564 blues guitar instruction videos on RUclips. Now, aren't you thankful?
I listen to Peter Green, Carlos Santana, BB, Jeff beck for phrasing. I was lucky to get to ask BB about his phrases, he told me "talk to yourself, then play the same way. It's easy man."
Hey Brayant. I just turned 71 and was a drummer for 40 years. I played with some great guitar players and of course they made it look so easy! Now that I'm retired from drumming I still have music in my soul. I dearly love the blues. It speakes to me. So, I bought a guitar and with my limited ability set out to conquer the blues. Needless to say it is sooo hard to get what's in my head down to my hands. It's extremely frustrating when I keep dropping picks, they spin in my fingers, it's a true battle to practice every day and can't enjoy it. I admire you being a jazz guitarist. That's one language I can't speak. I do wonder if I am too old to continue this journey. 😊
@MartinGrubb-o3k you're only to old when you've moved across the veil. Look at Robin Trower, Eric Clapton, etc. BB King was playing right up to the end. It just takes us oldies a bit longer to get the body parts moving well.
Amazing man 😦 I'm almost 37 and it just made click after watching your video! How!? You have serious skills as a teacher😃 . I grew up in Siberia, live currently in Germany and looove the blues. You really made my day.
You make it as easy as a driving test at 16. Thats due to your ability, attitude, and ability to teach while easily playing, demonstrating your knowledge of the guitar, especially blues. You know where to bend, so you can cover anyone.Nice tone, feel and the notes are so well articulated, its easy to bend, if you know where to do it, and how you phrase is so important in blues, know where the notes are.😊
I like when the lightbulb flickers on in my head about these licks and how to connect them, then about 10 seconds later, you say what I'm thinking. I think I'm getting it. 👽✌️
I believe bb king is one of the most influential players ever. He has had a very profound impact on several generations. I love his expressiveness when he plays. Now, with all of that said, i also wholeheartedly believe that he isnt a very technical player. His phrasing and general technique is very rudimentary. His superiority isnt in the difficulty of what he puts together, its HOW he puts it together. He is a living master class on playing with soul. His feelings and expressions are what comes out of his fingertips. Its not over intricate chords, or piling as many notes as possible into a space. Its about the timing of the notes, the bends, the slides, and all of the other basics that he has mastered and puts together to get his message across. Can you tell i highly respect his work?
Super helpful. I am 100% self taught... so I am terrible 😂. But I been doing these things without understanding them for years, and had some difficulty putting them together cus I never had it layed out for me. I am immediately better after watching this.
Hi Eddie, Your teaching strategy seems to be getting more comprehensive as I'm catching up to your videos. I really appreciate the preparation and thought you must do. The breathing technique to create phrasing brevity reminds me of the blues greats who would mouth singing as phrases were played, like the guitar became their singing.
Great lesson! It was really helpful for me. There are some smaller parts of your advices I have found out for myself, but you combined them with each other und gave me some new.
Thanks Mr.Eddie Haddad for this awesome video - i really dig you calmness and the slowness. I learned how to improve my solos - and as a bluesharpeplayer i will remember the "saxophone" breathing. As a beginner type and an old man (pushing 60) i would like if you put in a scheme for the BB. King og Freddie Boxes. Im not as quick as i were as an youngster.... Thanks Mr. Guitar guru and keep uo the good work - damn good ! 🙂 Greeting from Denmark.
Hey Chester! I actually have a lesson from a few months ago where I touch on that topic. Go back on this channel til you find a lesson titled “say goodbye to your amateur sounding guitar solos” or something similar to that haha
Man I have learned more from you watching a few of your videos, I don't what to say except thank you . Can I ask you a question, the sound of the guitar has a lot to do with the feel of the blues how do you set up your amp and guitar to get the beautiful sound yours has ?
Your videos are always so good. You show “simplified” boxes to jam with! All so great! But you or others never tell us or show us how to make it sound musical. You play it and it sounds amazing, using 4 freaking notes!! I do it, it sounds not musical and way too slow. Can you please dumb these down to a point to show, do this like this, keep doing this until you get fluid with it, then try this…? I keep playing these boxes you show and keep sounding exactly the same on all of them. What should I do? Thank you, great lessons!
With regards to Saxohone playing. Listen to Brian May, his riffs are all 'one breath' long as though he was singing them rather than playing on guitar.
Awesome lesson, my problem is remembering any kind of phrasing. I can spend an evening learning a cool blues lick, then the next morning i can remember the notes in the lick but the actual phrasing of the lick completely eludes me, and i just end up with a chromatic run in the correct key with the correct notes and zero personality. Not sure what to do to help me remember these killer phrases???
With stuff like this, listening is the best thing you can do. Actively listen to the phrases you’re wanting to emulate until they’re stuck in your head. Listening to blues records is another thing you should do! You’ll hear all the different ways that the pentatonic scales are played and it will start to show up when you play through the scales yourself. It will take time but it’s worth it!
@@OnwardAndEdward yes, I grew up listening to the blues through my dad's music he listened to Clapton Allman Brothers band Marshall Tucker band etcetera. And I run around listening to Sirius XM BB King bluesville all day. David Gilmour is my Guitar hero and my favorite but I love Hendrix, Robert Cray, SRV, all the Kings of course especially Albert King. Pretty much playing to backing tracks now but been stuck in the pentatonic box and I think adding this BB King box (major scale part of it) along with pentatonic box and extended box will help with a bit of variety

It's the other way tround. This video steals people's time like no ther does.
Too late, I'm already 287,445 in 😉
I'm over 40 and I've been trying for decades to play guitar. Any guitar. It finally clicked today for me. Thanks dude. I subscribed
Every once in awhile I come across a video that takes me to a new level - This is one of those gems.
I listen to Peter Green, Carlos Santana, BB, Jeff beck for phrasing. I was lucky to get to ask BB about his phrases, he told me "talk to yourself, then play the same way. It's easy man."
I like the way you teach. You don't stumble over your words. Content is easy to absorb. The pauses are so valuable. Thanks for the lesson.
This is probably the most helpful blues guitar instruction I’ve found on RUclips so far…and I’ve been looking for a while now.
Having started as a jazz guy I'm really getting into the blues at 72 and I'm loving these lessons

You seriously just opened up my eyes how to see the fretboard learning to play the blues. Thank you so much!!!
You are a blessing for those trying to understand the best genres for playing feel good music and intro to soloing. Thank you.

Saw him live when he was 74 years old blew me away how much he expressed himself with 3 notes
I was just working on a song that was a 12 bar in A and this totally helped me! thanks!
40 years of fumbling around and now this, finally! Spend the majority of my time in the Minor and a minor amount of time in the Major?
Super helpful.

Plenty of great info here. Especially the breathing exercise.

Great lesson for someone wanting to dabble in the blues field”
I am over 40 and can't confidently play the blues. But I have the blues
Bravissimo well done
This was very helpful. I might be able to solo Yet....BTW I'm still waiting for my Blues Guitar Solo Cheatsheet. I entered my email and no dice.
Awesome, where do I find the backing track?
We have a backing track playlist on the GMM channel! I believe the one I was using is called “Slow Blues In A”
Nice 😃

I see you know the right guitar to use! lol

are you related to Eddy Haddad from Omaha, Nebraska?
I didn't recognize you without the cap... 😅
😂😂
SRV. Enuf said.
On tip six what does over the neck mean? I'm blind so I couldn't see what you were doing.
He is strumming the guitar with his pick hand over the neck close to the 22nd fret rather than over the body to give a more sharp tone.
@@larryhagman3543 thank you
I have been playing for near 50 yrs and I still can't play the blues !!!
If i may ask; what is that cow behind you for?
Why would you not show the third position of that a scale .. all same notes but they just connect horizontalky up
I am not sure I can play any thing professionally even after 100 :) Lost faith on me

😮😊😅
Yes, but I don't want to play blues. There's more to guitar than blues. 😅😅😅
