I've always loved how Hendrix passed through chords with hammer ons and little runs. I was always intimidated by his music. but this is so logical and it sounds amazing. you are a great teacher. thank you!
Thank you for going right to the playing and skipping the endless talking most teachers do! I learned more in the last 5 mins than I have in 10 years. Hendrix always had a beautiful jazz like character to his playing that was not easy to understand since it relied so heavily on two and three string notes played together rather than blazing away on a single note at a time. You broke it down into small distinct runs that I could copy easily while listening to you play them a couple times in a row. Love it!
Yo! I know it probably doesn’t mean a ton hearing this in a comment when you’ve got so many subscribers but your vids are inspiring and so informative. The way you relay the information is unmatched! Thank you for everything!
I have to agree. I took some lessons as a young lad and was taught to bar chords only with the index finger (prior to the internet). I later learned that thumbing the bass strings offers a LOT more flexibility and a whole new world of creativity emerged. New players these days have free online lessons, tabs, backing tracks, and more to accelerate quickly. .
Thanks for showing the tab with these examples. Definite bonus points for making it much more clear. Most videos don't do this and sometimes it's really hard to see what notes they are actually playing. Cheers.
bedank voor deze !! na mijn hersenbloeding moet ik gitaar en bas helemaal opnieuw leren.. masr dit helpt om accoorden en melodie weer te " horen in mn hoofd. !! thanks so much!! Adrian Kilbourne! as always, clear and amazing!!
I've only watched a few of your videos but every one of them is full of stuff I've seen people do but never understood. Thank you for helping me to bridge that gap. Kind regards.
I noticed the comment time frame runs from seven months ago to one day ago. that means people been diggin this video for seven months. I know I am. This is my first time seeing it and I love it. Thanks man.
Thanks for the advice this always something I have struggled with cuz I never knew how to start, going to practice as many as I can. I know this has opened up many different paths for other guitar players...
Binge watching your videos is one of the best things I've ever done to bump my playing up several notches. You're a wealth of information friend! Thank you.
Thanks so much Paul for all your efforts. This is the best lesson in the practical use of pentatonic scales I've ever seen. It's so simple. Makes you want, no need, to get off your butt and learn your pentatonic positions. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Great video... that is the way a lesson should be done... tabs in the pic, great audio, gerat explanation... superbly done... I can't believe I have not seen your channel before... I will use this stuff in my videos... hopefully I remember to mention where I got those licks and mention it!
As per usual - just an overall amazing video. I can't believe how much my musical knowledge, comfort with using more of the fretboard, and overall playing has improved in just a few weeks by watching your videos! Thank you so much.
Great video. When you are putting tabs on screen remember on a phone - when you pause RUclips anything down the bottom of the screen is obstructed by the controls.
Such a great lesson for so many guitarists looking to go from rhythm to lead. The 186 people who dislike this video are obviously hacks who are jealous of your ability and teaching method, or have no clue about learning guitar at all. One of your best lessons out of many quality ones you produce to the world for free. Can't thank you enough :)
I found this is the easiest way to learn new thing on guitar by just throwing all of the ideas on my face, once i got these on my fingers i can just expand the licks and ideas to my own style of playing, this way is better than some other tutors who just keep talking and talking, in the end even you know the scales or stuff you still wont do anything
Goden dag Paul! I've been playing for many years now. It's not that I necessarily need your lessons but they do inspire me! I'd love to jam with you. Greetings from Duitsland
Yeah it is a bit challenging but its well worth putting in the practice to be able to play like this. you're not just playing boring old power chords one after the other you're giving each chord it's own little melody. can't wait to be able to do this nicely.
I love your videos man. pretty experienced player but I love to watch your videos and see what I missed. always more to learn from a great musician such as yourself.
This video really opened my eyes. Now i know that I really have to look up the muscial terminology. I don't suppose you'd like to make a quick video about it. ;) Really love your videos, I find them entertaining as well as very helpfu,l even as a beginner. May your number of subscribers grow with a rocket speed.
Hey Paul! This is an awesome video! I've always loved Hendrix's fills, but never fully understood what he was doing and why! Thanks for the enlightenment! Stumbled upon your channel recently and LOVE it! Thanks for doing what you do!
This is an absolutely fantastic lesson, well explained, well notated, etc. And holy HELL you have amazing tone especially with those hammer-on pull-off 32nds. Looks like I've got some practicing to do....
toppie, zeer nuttig. Vroeger had je dan boekjes met een cd bij (of nog vroeger een cassette). Jimi had enkel zijn oren en ogen om te leren. We zijn een luxe generatie :-)
This is very useful and well taught. Just what you need to get away from that strummy-strum stuff. (Or solos and scales all the time. Who's going to play the backup if we're all just lead guitarists?)
I've always loved how Hendrix passed through chords with hammer ons and little runs. I was always intimidated by his music. but this is so logical and it sounds amazing. you are a great teacher. thank you!
I always found the slower songs like Wind Cries Mary are more approachable for learning the style.
Hendrix and Stevie ray Vaughan were experts at it they turn it into a moving shape that is a question and answer
That tone kills I love it
Never seen someone this versatile on RUclips. The video is A+, the ability to communicate is A+ and, oh yea, the guard playing is A+.
I never comment on youtube, but I am just to tell you this was a great lesson
Praveen Walaliyadda I totally agree with you. it gave me so much! many thanks! stay in tune and keep shredding :D
Praveen Walaliyadda Sri Lanka what up?
Was gonna say the same thing... dude is a notably great teacher

Praveen lying for attention
Everyone does it and I hate it
Great video!!!! I love that you include tabs with some of your vids instead of trying to sell them. Thank you 🙏🏻 Paul.
I asked The Axis, and they confirmed that you are indeed, Bold As Love.
But, is he experienced? Has he ever been experienced? Well, he has!
These are where he actually plays the licks of each example. Great lesson! Cheers!

I manage to lick my guitar between chords, is it good?
I dunno does it taste good?
Instructions unclear, Guitar covered in slobber
No not good. Hendrix is dead. It was his gimmick and anyone else that tries it looks a little bit special
u need to calm down xD
Maybe you can get some country blues "flavor "
One of the best lessons I've ever watch in RUclips in years!
bedank voor deze !! na mijn hersenbloeding moet ik gitaar en bas helemaal opnieuw leren.. masr dit helpt om accoorden en melodie weer te " horen in mn hoofd. !! thanks so much!!
Adrian Kilbourne!
as always, clear and amazing!!
Mooi werk Paul. Je video's zijn erg duidelijk. Ik rommel zelf al wat jaren maar wat aan en heb wat directie nodig. Dank voor de hulp daar bij!
I've only watched a few of your videos but every one of them is full of stuff I've seen people do but never understood. Thank you for helping me to bridge that gap. Kind regards.
Man I wish I had your youtube channel when I began playing guitar. Keep on doing the great work. This is pure gold
Wow, there is so much information in this short video. I'm rewatching it regularly. This really elevates my playing to another level.
I noticed the comment time frame runs from seven months ago to one day ago. that means people been diggin this video for seven months. I know I am. This is my first time seeing it and I love it. Thanks man.
I can't believe it's been 4 years since this video! Damn time flies. The old studio makes me nostalgic.
Man, I've been watching videos bout how to play like Jimmy or Mayer and you're the only one that knows how to explain very well
Just decided to start a top ten list of RUclips "licks" lessons. This will be the first entry for it. Very helpful! Thanks
I love playing like this, it suits every style from Joe Walsh to John Mayer and everything in between. Cheers!🎸
man... this intro was so sweet.. y repeat more than 10 times.. great tone and great playing
this is a great lesson. doing those chordish licks have always been mystery to me but you make it so easy.
That bold as love intro was so clean!!!
THIS is what made my rhythm guitar improve my lead. love it.
Now I know and understand....Thanks much Paul! You are a magnificent Teacher!
The sweetest kind of playing, melts my heart.
Thanks for the advice this always something I have struggled with cuz I never knew how to start, going to practice as many as I can. I know this has opened up many different paths for other guitar players...
Binge watching your videos is one of the best things I've ever done to bump my playing up several notches. You're a wealth of information friend! Thank you.
One of the best lessons ever! Straight to the point with perfect explanation.
Thanks so much Paul for all your efforts. This is the best lesson in the practical use of pentatonic scales I've ever seen. It's so simple. Makes you want, no need, to get off your butt and learn your pentatonic positions. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

As per usual - just an overall amazing video. I can't believe how much my musical knowledge, comfort with using more of the fretboard, and overall playing has improved in just a few weeks by watching your videos! Thank you so much.

Fantastic lesson. Straight and to the point. Very clearly explained. You are the best! Thank you.
Great video. When you are putting tabs on screen remember on a phone - when you pause RUclips anything down the bottom of the screen is obstructed by the controls.
one of the most usable lessons for me...thanks
Great lesson, my favourite way to play. Real mellow.

You are a great teacher Paul. I always learn something from your video lessons. Thank you
very useful and well made video as usual. You've become a true master of RUclips instructional videos
such a FANTASTIC lesson. thanks Paul
You playing what i like, refreshes my key tune to playing good...
more like "How to play Jimi Hendrix style" :D
He was a pioneer of this style for sure. Nuno Bettencourt is another player that's mastered the chord and lead style.
Stevie Russel Rosen he's the one who made this style a staple in any guitarists arsenal, so it makes sense it would sound like him.
I immediately thought of Little Wing when he started playing at the stop
Stevie Russel Rosen but is that a bad thing ;)
Absolutely!
Including small comedy pieces w the lessons is GENIUS 🤙
Goden dag Paul! I've been playing for many years now. It's not that I necessarily need your lessons but they do inspire me! I'd love to jam with you.
Greetings from Duitsland
Just discovered this. Already a member of NLP, I have wanting to get my double stop chops up to snuff. Thanks Paul for a great little lesson!
sound awesome, simple yet easy to understand, great lesson paul
My favorite lesson I have seen you do so far! Would love to see more like this.
I like your skills and your relaxed and calm manner
It took me 3 days to finish this video because every lick evoked a massive creative wave in me that kept me playing around hours with it.
I was halfway down this road and you have given more ideas to work with, thanks!
Upload more constantly please! Really helpful and entertaining videos!
This style of playing is probably the most fun style, a little tough to master obviously, but super fun once you get the hang of it.
Yeah it is a bit challenging but its well worth putting in the practice to be able to play like this. you're not just playing boring old power chords one after the other you're giving each chord it's own little melody. can't wait to be able to do this nicely.
I love your videos man. pretty experienced player but I love to watch your videos and see what I missed. always more to learn from a great musician such as yourself.
i really love playing guitar but stopped because I got stuck. but you give me new inspiration to play again. thanks
I'm super positive that this video (along with that clickbaity technique video) will help me a lot to improve.
We need more of these licks!
Man, how I wish you would've been there like 15 years ago to show me all this stuff! :D Great breakdowns. Thanks, man and take care!
Incredibly well put together video. Excellent job.
This video really opened my eyes. Now i know that I really have to look up the muscial terminology. I don't suppose you'd like to make a quick video about it. ;)

Youre blessing must have worked he's got 1.2 million subs now
@@jimmyfelton2825 Nice thought, but I would chalk it up to his amazing skill. He is a great musician.
Something I took away from this video. Learn your scales and then do what Paul tells you to do in this video. Thanks Paul 🙏🙏🙏
dude, how do you get such great tone? it seems like you've got it down to a science.
Man I really need to work on this. I love the sound and I really like the blurred lines between lead and rhythm playing. Great video!
Thank you, I really enjoy watching your videos, they are very easy to understand and easy to watch, please continue making more videos like this!
Hey Paul! This is an awesome video! I've always loved Hendrix's fills, but never fully understood what he was doing and why! Thanks for the enlightenment! Stumbled upon your channel recently and LOVE it! Thanks for doing what you do!

Hi Paul, your videos are superb. these ones with the tab windows that pop up are perfect. Tasty playing my friend
I think a great example of an acoustic song like this is '39 by Queen.
Great song
Thanks Paul. Simply outstanding!

Paul: Great video. You're an excellent teacher and your guitar licks are so tasteful (no pun intended.)
Puike video's. Prima baardje.

This is very useful and well taught. Just what you need to get away from that strummy-strum stuff. (Or solos and scales all the time. Who's going to play the backup if we're all just lead guitarists?)
