I love when a movie makes me cackle like a swamp witch for the internet to see! What do you think is the funniest part?
The contraption they rig up to keep Dabney prisoner 🤣🤣🤣
Violet’s fantasy sequence was the funniest part for me. Especially the sarcastic laugh she does when he finds out about the poison.
Playing sex games and doing M & M's
In addition to being funny, the movie really marks the shift in office work. The reforms introduced at the end were seen as utopian and far out of reach, but over time, they become common.
I'm always a sucker for the movies of this era. They're the ones that kept popping up on Tv when I was a kid. Lily Tomlin was also awesome in 'The Incredible Shrinking Woman', but I doubt most wouldn't have heard of that one. Awesome reaction as always.
Thank you! 💜
“What do they do here?”
Not entirely sure, but I think the company makes office supplies.
I would love to see Rhetorical Thrill and Ashleigh Burton do a reaction to a comedy movie together. The sarcasm, innuendo, and puns ratio would be off the charts hilarious.
Oh man, wouldn’t that be a scream? 💜
So much fun! For me the funniest part is the slide from one rash decision to the next, like comedic quicksand that just pulls me into laughing through it all. Thank you so much for this, it's the perfect way to start my day, and it's going to be a great day 9 to 5.
Yeah! Go get it!
The work place, where every day is an eternity. great reaction
10:00 Now we need a clip of Caesar the chimp screaming ’NO!’
This was without doubt the funniest movie I didn’t understand when I first saw it shortly after release. But I was 8 at the time and it got a lot funnier when I was old enough to understand it.
This one was one of those movies that everyone was talking about, and the theme song was a big crossover hit, getting a lot of play on the rock stations.
I think the funniest bit for me is the hospital sequence, but I've got a soft spot for the Snow White part.
The hospital is a riot 🤣
Lot of modern day movies portray the 80's as this bright and colorful time. I remember brown, brown everything and on everything. Watching this with you just confirmed my memmories.
I say the same thing! The early 80s were so brown 😂 85-86ish seems to be the point where things start to get colorful
100% agree.
Apparently during shooting for at least one of the dream sequences (I think for both Judy's gun fantasy and Violet's fairy tale scene) Dolly Parton was having friends and family onset to watch it be filmed. According to Dolly, they were shocked and genuinely confused as to why she what kind of a project Dolly had just chosen to be her first movie. She had to explain to them that these were just the girls imagining this happening to their boss. LOL
Simply incredible that this was Dolly’s first acting gig. Such an absolute natural. These are all such comedic pros. And I LOVED your reactions. U seem fun!
Dolly is just special 💜 and thank you! Fun is what I’m going for 😊
You would be astonish/appalled by how many food products look like poisonous products in their packages.
Dabney is a great underrated actor.. love him in this . He's also great in "Cloak & Dagger"... A supporting role in "Tootsie" and a very small role in "You've Got Mail" as Tom Hanks' dad.
Working Girl is another great one.
Best workplace movie ever. And there probably was something in those artificial sweeteners we had in the 1980s...
Now you know what we had to deal with every day.
Fantastic cast. Jane is adorable, Lily is hilarious, and Dolly is just the best. And Dabney at his sleaziest 😅
I was gonna suggest The Beverly Hillbillies movie, but since you've seen it 😉 try Barbarella for one of Jane Fonda's best. It's a campy sci-fi romp.
Just realized after all these years: Jane Fonda smoking weed with Dolly and Lily in 9 To 5 mirrors her brother Peter Fonda's iconic scenes smoking weed with Jack Nicholson and Dennis Hopper in Easy Rider! I'd party with those six any day! :D And 12:22, she shows she's definitely Henry Fonda's daughter! She's probably known how to do that since she was 12! 😄 And Dolly kills it, Lily kills it....exactly as you say: great comedic acting all around. That was a great reaction! So happy you got to see it! This movie makes great reaction videos! I always liked it, but reaction videos for it have really upped my affection for it, it was a movie I sort of forgot about. Speaking of which, if you like this one: TOOTSIE! From 1982, do that one! Amazing stacked cast. Dabney Coleman is in that as well, playing a very similar character, he's perfect in both movies. Definitely put "Tootsie" on your list when you're in the mood for something like "9 To 5", it's 9 To 5's closest relative.
Good suggestion, thanks! And I appreciate you watching 😊
The entire cast pulled this film (which could have been a disaster) together. Like you said, films that have mistaken identity can come off as contrived but his didn't. Dabney Coleman is an amazing actor. He often played the badguy in comedies but their is always something sympathetic and likeable about the roles he plays.
I feel like with Beverly Hillbillies, Recess, and Muppet Take Manhattan alone, this guy has been recognizable to me since childhood 😂
I grew up on this movie as a kid i saw it.. hillarious AF
Love this film.
Haven't watched this since I was a kid, but I remember really liking it. Plus, all three of these Ladies are Royalty...Lily for Comedy, Jane for Drama and Activism, and Dolly for Music and just generally being one of the Greatest People in Human History (she even helped get Buffy The Vampire Slayer on the air back in the day). 😍😍😍👑👑👑
Also, Dabney Coleman plays an excellent Piece Of Crap. "Modern Problems" starring Chevy Chase is another great movie he's in.
Dolly is a GEM
Recently saw lily tomlin in 80 for Brady, surprisingly decent movie. This one was great, dabney coleman i always remember from Cloak and dagger.
@Rhtorical Thrill I'd always felt my best go-to of employing the word "douche" was "douchenozzle"
but upon hearing "Douchecanoe" I have now amended this error and adopted its use, thank you,
thank you.
Oooh, douchenozzle is also fantastic! Curse + random noun is always a great formula 💜
@@RhetoricalThrill
Then in the words of "Wind In His Hair"
* taps shoulder *
"Good trade..." *nodding*
The best part is the fantasy sequences
Haven't seen this one since the literal 80's. Think I only seen it once, so this is going to be a definite "watch" down memmory lane.
Yay! Enjoy the trip!
Co-written and directed by Colin Higgins, who wrote the great HAROLD AND MAUDE and wrote and directed the great FOUL PLAY, both recommended!
Ooh, Harold and Maude is indeed very good!
@@RhetoricalThrillHe wrote it as his master thesis in film school!
I mostly know Dabney Coleman from Cloak & Dagger from 1984, one of my favorite mostly forgotten movies. Check that one out sometime!
Loved your reaction as always! If you haven't seen it before, I'd recommend The First Wives' Club -- a women-led revenge comedy for a different decade, starring Bette Midler, Diane Keaton, and Goldie Hawn.
That one I have seen, I feel like it got a lot of influence from this one, love it 💜
Now you should watch "Weekend at Bernies"
This is such a fun film.
And if you think of Dolly as the Queen.. Then you definitely need to watch "The Best Little Wh$rehouse in Texas". It reteams her with this director.. The music Numbers are great.. But you might enjoy it more on your own.. also the very odd couple of Dolly and Sylvester Stallone in "Rhinestone". I know it's not a great film.. But damn do i still love it..
So this movie is what influenced the song dolly partons song
I think she wrote it for the movie, yes 💜
9:50 I don’t think it matters what year it was, I think that this being brought up meant someone had something to say about it! ✊
It was just crazy to hear it out loud, and I knew if I didn’t acknowledge it I’d get a dozen comments like “omg it was the 80s ur so stoopid” 😂
It's great and its better watching it in the modern era.
good reaction as usual :)
and tbh had nothing else to say :)
Hey, I’ll take it! Thank you so much!
@@RhetoricalThrill i usually try to point thing u missed or different opinion or related stuff ... but u cover it all and i had NOTHING to add :)
Id vote for Dolly for politics. She's been nothing but upstanding!
I will vote Dolly for anything
you should checkout Superstar! (1999)
I think I’ve seen that, it’s Molly Shannon’s SNL character, right?
@@RhetoricalThrill yes haha. I feel like it’s so underrated.
You pick such fun entertaining and great movies. Dabney Voleman was so amazing in the movie
"Short Time"
That was a great movie you could react to. It's a crime/ buddy cop/ comedy with one of the wildest police chases ever!
I always loved it as a genuinely sincere, good-hearted movie.
HR was a thing but not like today. All men.
LoL, Douche-Canoe ?? Tell us you have never heard of the animated scifi series FINAL SPACE
I actually haven’t! Is that where it originated?
@@RhetoricalThrill FINAL SPACE is where o first heard it. It's pretty funny, and dramatic for a chibi-ish cartoon series.
Plan Roger's has a few other animated pilots floating around that are worth a view.
Saw this movie in the theater with my mom when I was 10 and it still cracks me up! Love all the actors, they were so funny. Have you ever been told you look a lot like 80's Kathleen Turner? Great reaction, thanks!
I have been told that, it’s very flattering, I love her 😊
Me too. She’s a great dramatic and comedic actress. And gorgeous with a voice to match. After Body Heat’s success, Michael Douglas knew she was right for Romancing the Stone. They were both hilarious in The War of the Roses. Amazing chemistry.
