      Tinkering Nerd I did the same thing. Doesn’t hurt to go big if you have the space. Especially with servos where steppers the advantage isn’t necessarily the same. I have 2.2kw for my z axis and 1.2kw x and y on one of my machines. I have a shelf full of these for future builds. I like them. I asked in a new comment how you like them.

    Hello sir,
    i also order cnc 4640 cnc controller similar with you.I receive EMI filter with this controller. So i dont know where we use this filter
    ( Between power supply & controller or Mainpower line & power supply)
    Please guide about EMI file and their wirring

    • @TinkeringNerd
      @TinkeringNerd  5 лет назад

      EMI (electromagnetic interference) filters should work on both DC and low frequency (50-60Hz) AC. I suppose, insulation and capacitors’ rating will be the limiting factor for use on AC line voltages.

    • @TinkeringNerd
      @TinkeringNerd  5 лет назад

      I’m planning for it to be a gantry style machine. The biggest motor is for x-axis, to move around the heavy gantry with spindle. Z-axis will have the motor with brake. There will be a gas spring to offset the weight of the spindle, to “help” motor.
      And thanks, Merry Christmas!

    Please post your progress. Why you chose the Closed loop servos, what spindle you are thinking about. This offline CNC controller I take it,? Looks good, your first CNC and you aren't using software based ? . I am starting with Mach3 and the GUI it provides for interfacing, but of course you still need to interrpret this output with another "box" Maybe these DSP boxes are more portable I don't know, I have yet to build my table but I am hot on the traail of the correct design in a turnkey (ready made and delivered in ab bigger box: ) Or to buy it in many smaller boxes. There is a headache ahead I know it, I just want to minimize it.
    Any way ...... Are you building the frame out of extruded alum, steel, combination?? This is 7 months later !

    • @TinkeringNerd
      @TinkeringNerd  6 лет назад

      Like all big project, this one also comes with hoops, biggest two are time and money. Besides, there are always "better things" to do and "better ways" to spend my time (in other people's opinion). I chose closed loop because not many people do, bit more challenging. This will be my second CNC, actually. First one got inadequately small motors and was running too slow. The frame for this machine will most likely be steel, spindle Im thinking 5kW ATC.

    • @chrisleech1565
      @chrisleech1565 6 лет назад

      Well for me I have just spent some time getting primed for this so it is kind of the knuckle down time. It is inevitable as they say. Everything I have learned has pointed to CNC Router work. The 3D Printer has found a spot but it is plastic. Don't wish to spend vast sums of my money, and I am not naive in that my custom solution could run a few more dollars,... work off a vertical plane (dovetailing) and Hi Z with 8" capable rotary tool. So I am into a custom steel frame and the heavy guage t-slot extrusions. Many disciplines and tools required, and there are no people of this ilk out around this 20. So.. I bid you a fair day and will perhaps keep an eye out for glimmers of activity

    Hi, I wonder if this is closed loop CNC kit? Thanks.

    • @TinkeringNerd
      @TinkeringNerd  6 лет назад +1

      Closed loop means that a command from controller is executed and verified. This system is closed loop, each motor has an encoder on it which is sending real feedback to the servo drive. Basically, the controller sends a command, and it’s up to servo drives to execute it correctly. Servo drives in turn have feedback signal wires that are connected to the controller and are transmitting the state of the servo drives (if they are ready, busy, or if there is a fault).
